Questions about Hurricane Cast Net (Package may vary), 5'
Q:
what is the size of the mesh
Answer: I've been catching 1-2 inch minnows with it.. exact size I couldn't tell ya
Answer: The mesh on the 5' radius net that I own is 3/8"
Q:
What size is the radius?
Answer: Cast nets are measured by the radius. A 4 foot cast net has a 4 foot radius and spreads to 8 feet when opened. Same applies to all cast nets. I found the 5 footer the most productive for me for bait fish and shrimp in the creeks at low tide, but I have also used a 4 footer for many years. Larger nets require more experience and lots of practice to throw them but pracice makes perfect.
Answer: It's a 5 ft radius or a 10ft circle
Answer: 5 ft
Q:
Is this product made in the USA?
Answer: Ahi nets made in USA and descent prices too
Answer: No ...made in China but served me well while in Florida for 7 months. I have the 4' nylon and the 5 foot monofiliment. Both did well. No complaints even if it is from China. Needed a cheap cast net at the time.
Answer: Not sure I threw away the box. But it has been a excellent little cast net so far
Answer: No I don't believe it is honestly
Answer: Don't know, but it is well made
Q:
How big are the eyes?
Answer: What are eyes on a cast net? If you are referring to the weights they are plastic coated steel about 50% larger than lead weights. They give the met an aweful sink rate due to their low density and the thing corrode in salt water after a few months.
Q:
Can you use this net on a pier?
Answer: No way the rope is long enough in my opinion I don't even use this around oyster beds
Answer: Sure... I use on low pier or floating dock in backwaters and works well. Probably light for ocean pier with deep water and strong current
Q:
How long is the cord? And in how deep water can I use it?
Answer: Not exactly sure. I have it packed away until spring. I would say it is probably 12-18 ft long if I had too guess. I really like it. I initially bought the net thinking my kid could use it but the net is too big for her. I don't have any problems though and have caught a lot of bait fish and shrimp with it. Also got lucky and snagged a 24" drum in it on one throw.
Answer: I can't get out in the cold to measure it, but it is reasonably long for most uses. If you want to let it go straight down for a long way, then just tie another rope onto the handle end and let it go as deep as your rope can go, then jerk it up
Answer: 15 to 20 feet
Q:
Can this net be used in fresh water for minnows?
Answer: Does not work very well for small minnows. Openings in the net are too large. Some do get snagged occasionally
Answer: Yes, that is why I bought it for.
Q:
Is the mesh 1/2" or 3/8"?
Answer: It is the 3/8 mesh
Answer: typical 1 2 inch most bait go thu it or heads get stuck in it ,,,
Answer: 3/8ths
Q:
Sink rate, Dose this compony make a net with fast sink rate ? I need at least a pound per foot...
Q:
Are the weights securely attached to the weight line, or come loose and tear the net?
Answer: My wife has been using it regularly for the past 3 years and she has never had a problem with the weights coming off.
Q:
If the radius is 5 ft, the diameter is 10 feet when fully spread out as a circle. correct?
Answer: Yes
Q:
How thick its the mesh monofilament?
Answer: My best guess is about the thickness of 20-pound-test (.009-inch diameter)...I don't have a micrometer or digital caliber to accurately measure it but that is my best comparison looking at my fishing line I use for some projects and my nets. Works well down here but I only use from shore or while wading. Doesn't get cut easily on the snags or oyster beds.
Q:
Can you use this net on a pier?
Answer: No way the rope is long enough in my opinion I don't even use this around oyster beds
Answer: Sure... I use on low pier or floating dock in backwaters and works well. Probably light for ocean pier with deep water and strong current
Q:
Can you please tell me what size mesh this net has, opening size
Answer: James
Answer: Hi James I checked and it is 1/2 in in the net,My brother used his and did not like using it,and i have yet to use mine hopefully this summer.happy fishing.Judy
Answer: I will ck tomorrow when i look at my net.but really think it is 1/4 in.
Answer: I'm sorry that I cannot answer your question. It was a gift for my son when he lived on the water near Savannah and I'm not sure he still has it since he has moved to the mountains.
Answer: Big enough
Q:
What is the mesh size? 1/2", 3/8"? Thanks
Answer: Probably half inch, not catching any small guys with this
Q:
I need a Net that is at least. Dose this company make any nets with that sink rate ? ...
Q:
How much weight per foot of net?
Answer: Whole thing weighs about 8 pounds. You can figure it out
Q:
What material is the mesh? plastic? Also, does anyone have a picture of it out of the box?
Q:
Can this be used for carp?
Answer: Sure. Don’t know how it would do if you get a whole bunch in one throw
Q:
Do you think this net would contain an armadillo if it were thrown on top of it?
Answer: From what I understand armadillos are pretty tough. This net is pretty tough also. You will have to shoot some video.
Q:
Are the wAre the weights made of lead?eights made of lead?
Answer: I’m not sure. I don’t think they are pure lead. The weights are a soft material and adequate weight to get the net down quickly. Works well for me in 8ft or less water.
Q:
size
Answer: About 3-4 feet in diameter when spread out. It's also is very stif monofilament, almost unusable... Still hoping that it breaks in but after 50+ casts its more trouble than its worth.
Answer: 6 ft
Answer: Approx 5 ft across, but it depends on the model number
Q:
Are the weights lead? I’m reading conflicting info in the questions here.
Q:
are the weights plastic or lead?
Answer: Good old fashioned Lead. Wash your hands after handling and don’t put it in your mouth
Q:
What is the weight per foot?
Q:
What is meant "package may vary"?
Q:
Can this net be used for shrimping
Answer: Yes I've used it for that
Q:
Item description needs clarification, what size is it?. Same mdl number comes up in search for 6 or 7 ft net but this is actually a 5 ft net.?
Answer: it is a 5-ft net.
Q:
Is this a cloth material throw net?
Answer: No it has strong nylon string
Q:
What are the weights made of?
Q:
are the weights 3/4 oz or 1 oz?
Answer: don't know but the sink rate of the net was to slow. need at least one oz per foot

A little to big for my 9yo girl to cast but we caught hundreds of bait minnows while at the beach. Even caught a 16" Drum on one lucky cast.
Grady L. Simmons : net works fine and price was good
i live on the coast and rip up about 1 net a year... this is a solid net for the price... i use in the creeks where debris and oyster beds rip nets up... this is a good net for my needs and will last till i catch something i should not have... good net for the price.

Gerald Morris : The net isn't bad for the money as some of the other reviewers ...
The net isn't bad for the money as some of the other reviewers have stated. The weights are coated with plastic and a thin black string affixes the weights to the monofilament. That string breaks quite easily and you have to do some repair work. I've been using 6lb mono to do the repairs but that breaks as well. I then tried to use thicker sewing string used for jeans but that too breaks. I just think it's the design. I've been practicing in the backyard and once the weights start to bounce, they detach from the mono and black string.
I will use this to practice and get the hang of throwing it then I will purchase a better constructed net.
David P. : Good cast net
Good cast net for the money . Like others said it is 5 feet is very easy to throw. If you don't have experience with one idk how difficult it is to throw it the way the directions show you, I always use my teeth to help throw it. But 5ft is generally very easy to throw.
Michael : Good product
Does as advertised
Oscar H. : One Star
too heavy, hard to cast
Remy : Good Cast Net
Used for shrimping with throwing off a dock. Too bad I don't cast very well or would have gotten more shrimp.
Krista Thomas : Get What You Pay For
Got about 3 casts our of it before it snagged and broke several lines.
Ok N. : Five Stars
Worked as it should. Used it in shallow water with large amounts of sharp rocks and it held together.
tessarat : It works
I've used this net to catch shrimp, bait fish and even a few 12 inch plus mullet. This is my first cast net, so I can't compare it to anything else, but if you practice and do your job, it will serve you well.
mario ruiz : It’s not really worth it
It didn’t last me longer than a day and it tore up at the tenth throw.
Aaron Warren : terrible shipping
I dislike the fact that the case is damaged and unusable. Plus putting zipties around a net to get cut off is a quick way to get the net damaged after unboxing.
Braden Huddleson : If weights were heavier it would be awesome. Still not a bad product though
Sinks kinda slow. If weights were heavier it would be awesome. Still not a bad product though
Yuhan : Three Stars
The net is not tough enough.

elowney : Good net for first timers
This is my first cast net, so it definitely took me some time to learn how to throw it out and get that nice open pancake. The only thing I don't like is that I feel it could sink quicker, but I was still able to catch quite a bit of green backs and even a large 14" mullet in this net.
DavenRitaVille : great little net.
Great little net . Coated weights, nice yoke and braided line. Throws a pancake every time in the wind. Forget about cramming it back into the little box, keep it in your culling bucket. I don't use my big nets anymore for baits.

Chuck McB : the lead weights on this net are plastic coated to protect all the poor fish and I suppose ducks from lead poisoning
Junk!! Thanks to the "Environmental Whacko's", the "lead" weights on this net are plastic coated iron to protect all the poor fish and I suppose ducks from lead poisoning. Let me see if I get this ...you don't use lead for weights that are too big for any reasonable creature to ingest. Instead we get low density plastic coated iron that in salt water will decompose in a few years in order to prevent the lead from dissolving in the water...a process that will take a hundred million years or so! junk. Sink rate is awful due to the lightness of the weights.
In the mean time you will get a net whose sink rate is so slow as to be ineffective. You will get POed and toss it in the trash moving the non-existent "lead poisoning" problem to your local dump! ...whatever!

Chae : I can still tell my friends that I caught like a dozen fish this past weekend
Learning to cast took a little time but it's well worth learning. I don't have to worry about bait anymore. I can just cast it a couple times from the dock and have enough bait for the entire afternoon.
And when I still don't catch anything, I can still tell my friends that I caught like a dozen fish this past weekend... Which is technically true........
Don't judge me...

tom lepka : not 1/4 inch
here is usefull info its not 1/4 it is a 3/8 so the small bait goes thu n bigger ones get stuck ,,,,in other words i need 1/4 like the pic has .but price is good for 5 footer i hate 4 and usles 3 .
Nick : Worth it
First time using a cast net. Watched a YouTube video and now catch my own bait. It is durable and worth the money. I wish the plastic storage case would be better. The closing clasp is flimsy.
