Questions about Frabill Tangle-Free Wading Net | Specially Designed for Fly-Fishing | Available in Multiple Hoop Sizes and Net Depths
Q:
Using for large and small bass what size to get
Answer: If you get into 10+ pounders then the 13” X 18” is a good size. The 11” X 15” will get the job done on most of the 3-7 pounders. Good luck!
Answer: I have both. There isn't a huge difference in size. I generally like the larger one where bigger bass are around. Nice net!
Answer: the 17 x 22 is a good size net to handle large and smaller bass. It has served well as my Lake Erie Steelhead net also.
Answer: Get the smaller one, plenty large for any freshwater fish
Answer: I would look at 19"X25". You never know the big one will hit'
Q:
Is the netting made of rubber?
Answer: It seems that it's coated in rubber so it doesn't get tangled. It's a very nice net.
Answer: No it's not made of rubber, it's a really nice net.
Answer: The netting looks like a traditional fabric material (not sure whether natural or synthetic) that has been coated in a flexible synthetic coating that has the consistency of soft rubber. I like the performance of this material, as it doesn't end up getting caught in branches and underbrush so easily when I am exploring banks around lakes and streams. I haven't seen any problems for the fish I land, as they are always in good shape when I release them.
Answer: Yes. Its like traditional netting covered witj rubber
Answer: Yes

Answer: its not one you would want on your back. I bought it for my float tube.
Answer: It is 23" x 12"
Q:
How heavy is the net?
Answer: This is a very light weight net. This net is very solidly built. I will never go back to a wooden handle net again after I broken my Orvis $100 net.
Answer: Not heavy at all. I can’t weight it because I’d lost it about year ago.
Q:
How long is the handle of this net?
Answer: Mine measures 7”.
Q:
Does it sink or float?

Q:
Would this be good for a motor boat fisherman catching 5"-15" fish to use one-handed?
Answer: It would depend on the size of your boat and how deep your hull is. Its perfect for a kayak or small jon boat. As for the size of the fish, its a fine rubber coated nylon mesh that would be perfect for fish 5"-15". I use mine for river trout And it does just fine. It's about the same size as a racketball racket. 24" long with and 8" handle.
Answer: I would say yes. rod in one hand and net in the other for easy landing of fish.
Answer: I would be confident saying this net is pretty multi purpose. I personally use this net for my Kayak. It's netted a few Pike as well as Bass and Walleys... Enjoy!
Answer: I use mine in my 12' semi v and it works great.
Answer: I believe so. It's has a large net and opening. It feels very durable. I haven't used mine much yet but I do like it.
Q:
does it float?
Answer: No. It sinks very slowly, but does not float. I use it wading in the surf while fishing for salmon and steelhead along Lake Michigan or Superior. I keep it attached to my fishing vest with a magnetic clip. Excellent net. I have the net in two sizes for different conditions.
Answer: It does not float. It does come with a bungee type cord attached with a spring clip. I lost a fishing rod out on my kayak last year. Purchased a pack of foam rod floats to avoid repeating. You could use something like on the post to make it float
Answer: Tried mine out in watering tub. Net and hoop end will sink. Handle end floats slightly. Pretty sure that hoop end will rule in the end. Don't know if hoop tubing is sealed to trap air or not but bubbles came from end of handle while submerged. Will try real test in river this week if I get out.
Answer: no it doesn't
Answer: Sorry, have tested it - but by the looks of it I think the hoop is hollow so it should. I can tell you that it is light and works well.
Answer: Nope.
Answer: Nope.

Q:
hoop size only is???
Q:
If you have a food scale or small accurate one, could you please weigh this net?
Q:
does anyone know how much this weighs by any chance?
Answer: I don't have a scale that goes that low but I'd guess maybe 12 ounces.
Q:
the mesh is made of rubber? i don't want a nylon or fabric net
Answer: It is coated in rubber, they are good nets just make sure you are getting the size you want
Q:
What size is the net?
Answer: It is big, but somehow doesn't get in the way. From the tip of the handle to the end it is 29". It measures 18" across at the widest point. I have netted several 20+ fish no problem.
Answer: Net area on mine is 22" long, 17" wide, and about 14" deep -- if this is still the same net I bought a few years ago. Frabill lists the specs as 22 / 17 / 13 (http://www.frabill.com/nets-accessories/trout-nets/3673.html). Not sure why the Amazon page has them at 22 / 17 / 9, unless they've made it shallower. Contact Frabill...
Answer: 17.5" width by 22" length. Absolute perfect size
Answer: 21" X 17"...I love this net!
Answer: 17" W X 22" L X 8" D
Q:
How is the cord attached to the handle? I would like to replace it with my own retractor. Is there an "eye" or something I could clip the retractor to
Answer: The doubled bungee cord goes through a hole in a plug that goes into the handle. The plug stays in the handle via a friction fit. It's easy enough to pry the plug out to replace the cord. (I did it to mine.)You should have no problem adding your own small eye or loop in place of the cord.
Answer: David,
Answer: I attach mine where the handle meets the net on my magnetic net release on the back of my waders. I've noticed if you're hanging it off your back and you go from the base of the handle you will trip over the net and it will get hung up alot.
Product reviews of Frabill Tangle-Free Wading Net | Specially Designed for Fly-Fishing | Available in Multiple Hoop Sizes and Net Depths
Matt B : Great and inexpensive
Great inexpensive fly fishing net. I needed a new net and I picked up this one and it seems to be holding up well.
Brett : Great net, frayed bungee -1 star
Really never got to use it because the bungee was almost completely frayed through from amazon. Disappointing but it is a reason to deduct 1 star, mostly because it seems to have happened to several people in the reviews of this same family of nets (different sizes). I will say this though, that net looks amazing! The material should be great around hooks AND fish. This thing is HUGE and DEEP! It may be a little large for some, especially in a kayak. Though if you're after big fish (cobia, etc), this is the one for you. I've seen there's even a bigger one! I had to send this one back, unfortunately, but since I did I've also decided to drop down to the 3672. I think it will be easier to manage in a kayak and big enough for slot Redfish, slot Trout, and slot Snook - the variety that I fish for. As for this one, the 3673, it would take a VERY big fish to fill this net. I would imagine it could hold a 3 ft fish, maybe more. It seems strong though I don't know what it would be rated for, certainly stronger than the cheap aluminum ones.
UPDATE: Okay, I decided to keep this one and simply fix the handle. I can tell Frabill that it's a material issue as to why the bungee seems to have issues. I drilled a hole from side to side in handle, cut off the bungee then retied through the new holes. The bungee the next day looked like it had broken internally in several spots. Very, very strange. Maybe from pulling the knot tight??? Anyway, I'll be replacing with a small piece of nylon rope and a carabiner. Nearly perfect net! BTW, 19" trout looks small in this net. LOL Frabill, call me. I have ideas. ;)
Tony Ertola : My favorite net
Big, lightweight, nice for catch and release. The only reason that it didn't get 5 stars is the elastic lanyard pulled out of the handle after about 30 trips on the water.
JimmyG : Well Built
I landed fourteen trout in two days, hook removal was much easier as compared to my old mesh net. I should have bought the smaller net, but that is on me.
John : Disappointed
Net hoop came bent and the elastic cord connected to the handle was partially cut. Bravo
progress. : I absolutely love this net
I absolutely love this net. I have caught countless bass and trout with this, and there have been no problems for me at all. I have also gotten my hooks stuck in the net before, and I have not been too gentle with it, and I don't have even the tiniest rip. It is flawless for me, doing shore fishing. it is also super lightweight which makes it much easier to manuever with.
JaimeAstin : A great net for kayak fishing...
I love to fish out of my Kayak and after losing one cheap fold up net to the muddy depths and then losing big fish because I could not land them without a net, I bought this one... Too bad the day the net came in I lost a big catfish that required a net...
I keep the net latched to the kayak. It is durable and the rubber-like coated net is safe for fish (catch and release) as well as tangle free. The net does not float, but the cord and latch is durable and will not easily break. The net is great for any fish.
Fishing out of a kayak is fun, but can be frustrating without the right gear. Most of us learn the hard way to pack light bringing not only whats needed, but what works the very best. This net is a keeper for sure. For such a small space on my 12ft kayak, the net is easy to store, get and use with out worrying with tangles or hurting the fish. Great value for a long lasting product.
Fishing Guy : Nice net!
Great size for trout up to 15 - 16". Hooks don't get tangled in the thread and the clip feature is really nice.
Austin tx : good kayak net
Very nice net, hooks don't get hung in fibers (rubber coated).. Only issue is the handle is a bit small diameter

philbert : Nice net.
Good size for my kayak. Easy to use and worth the price easy! Fly fish with it and the hooks dont get stuck in it like my old cloth net. Makes for easy catch and release.
rideabiketoday : Great net !!!!
I have this one for river fishing and a larger version, typically used for salmon, that I use bass fishing. They work great; hooks don't get hung up as easily as a standard net. They are also deep, which allows for a nice place for the fish to stay while you get a camera situated, or whatever. Nice quality and way better then the old style string nets.
Queen Bee : ... it yesterday so I haven't used it but its sturdy, its nice and round to scoop up those ...
I just go it yesterday so I haven't used it but its sturdy, its nice and round to scoop up those fish. Im so excited I cant wait to use it. The whole transaction with this seller was so perfect and such fast delivery. I am very happy with this seller. Thank you
Nathan Weber : Steelhead beware!
Love this net! Does the job even on the big ones
PT : Frabil Trout Net - Pleased with Construction.
Very well made with a deep basket makes landing and releasing fish a breeze. Like the tangle free micro mesh. Larger than your Grandpa's trout net, but better for the fish. Great price when compared to nets at local sporting goods store. With Prime Shipping, Amazon is so convenient for getting last minute fishing gear.
Mary Allen : Best Wading Net Yet
If your even thinking about getting this net, go for it. I fished with it a couple times before reviewing it and I can honestly say its the best net I've ever used. Its perfect size for wade, canoe, or kayak fishing whether I'm fishing backwoods blue lines or swift mountain rivers in East TN or Western NC. I liked the clip it has on the end of the stretchy strap so you can loop it on and off your boat quickly. I landed some 20"+, 2-3#'s in it and it handled them with ease. Even though the mouth is only slightly larger than my old teardrop net, it has a ton more room. The flat bottom and the snagless material make catch and release a breeze. No more bird's nest with hooks when those big boys do alligator rolls in your net. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the flat bottom helped trout stay right side up in the water in it while we waited on my fishing mate to "get the camera!" :) The trout aren't doing headstands as they do in a teardrop style net. Also the material is characteristically anti-microbial. The quality is very good for this price and Amazon had the best price. This net is great value.
Carlisle : Great net!
Best net I've found. Too bad I lost it in the ocean! Guess I;ll be buying another one.Good for fish up to about 5 lbs
M. A. Mazur : Outstanding quality
I was completely surprised by the high quality of this net. From the soft rubberized mesh net to the comfortable no slip grip handle, THIS IS THE NET YOURE LOOKING FOR.
M. A. Mazur : Outstanding quality
I was completely surprised by the high quality of this net. From the soft rubberized mesh net to the comfortable no slip grip handle, THIS IS THE NET YOURE LOOKING FOR.
TK : Decent Net
This net is pretty good for the price...
The biggest problem I had with this net, and that anyone else will most likely have, is that the string attached to the end of the net is not very strong... The stretchy material that attached to the butt of the net quickly frayed, and soon thereafter, broke. I ended up attaching a thin piece of twine to my net and used the clip that used to be fastened to the original connecting string to attach to my vest. If a thicker stretchy material was used when the net was manufactured i imagine it would increase the longevity of the attachment string.
Sometimes i found myself trekking though some rough terrain, so the other thing i found is that you should be careful when going through thicker brush and such as the net is a little bit more prone to ripping than i had originally counted on. Thorny material and sticks inflicted some unfortunate rips in parts of my net... Most nets would probably have trouble with thicker brush, and this net held up pretty well, but i was still a little surprised at what caused rips in the plastic netting material.
Overall, I like the net and will probably buy another despite what i listed above. It IS very lightweight, is affordable, and the various sizes it comes in should provide something for most fisherman.

thomas r. phipps : Way big
Ended up to big for wadding
Frank Maglin : A great net, but be careful of the size you order
Well, this is a great net; however, I had to return it as it was much bigger than I expected. Of course I ordered the largest size, as I have had problems with previous nets not being deep enough and though I C&R 90%of the trout I catch, occasionally I’ll keep some especially if they have been caught so many times that they become injured. So, I returned the net and went to order a smaller size. Unfortunately it was out of stock. My advice is to draw the dimensions on a large sheet of paper before ordering.
Buffalobwana : Did not improve my casting one bit
A bit disappointed that I’m not catching bigger fish, but if I did, I feel like this net would totally handle it. Five stars fer sure!
Mumu : Good sturdy net
Used for trout fishing. Worked well. Sturdy and durable. Smaller holes.
philbert : Nice net.
Good size for my kayak. Easy to use and worth the price easy! Fly fish with it and the hooks dont get stuck in it like my old cloth net. Makes for easy catch and release.
Ethan Kowert : Great for larger fish when wading
I purchased this net for steelhead season and it has done exactly what I want it to do from easily sliding into my hip pack to landing bruiser Great Lakes steelhead. I am not sure how well it could handle a juiced up chinook but it could take on coho for sure.
L.M. Mo. : Great Steelhead wading net.
I use this net for Steelhead, its big enough to get your 25lbs fish in... No Problem!
Fits easy on the back of my wading jacket, I use magnetic release and I love this net.
progress. : I absolutely love this net
I absolutely love this net. I have caught countless bass and trout with this, and there have been no problems for me at all. Greg Jordan : Nice size net, but not bulky
Perfect for my kayak fishing trips
David Powelstock : Good net, bad cord
A very nice net. Amazingly, mine arrived with the cord frayed, as many other reviewers have experienced. In fact, on mine the cord was almost completely severed. What kind of crazy quality control failure is this?! Srsly. I was planning to replace the cord with an eye screw anyway, in order to attach it to a retractor. Otherwise, I would have returned it.
Wolfgang St Croix : Just do it.
For the money, this net is excellent. Hooks don't get stuck. It's big. It's durable. It feels good in your hands. And when you catch that monster fish you weren't expecting, he/she will look you square in the eyes and thank you for the roomy accommodations.
Do yourself and the fish a favor - buy this net.
And if you aren't trying to catch big fish, buy one of the smaller ones. These things are the real deal. Especially at this price.
I just wish they made one with a longer handle......
Cls : It's big and it works
Great net... guide buddy uses these and they do quite well with the big trout and small alike.
Scott L : One of the best.
Very impressive wading net. I thought it was too big at first, but very glad I got this size. Very sturdy and tough net. No snag issues with lures at all. Easy to carry and light weight.
brian foley : Best Net
Great net for the $. Light, big, rubber coated and has smaller holes soo Lil brookies can’t fit through em! Best net around
William B. : Easy Scoop
Great net to easily handle fish gently. Good for fishing in wade streams.
Derek E : Nice net.
This net is nice and lightweight. Nets Steelhead just fine. I got the magnetic net release for it and it fits nice on the back.
Hyosin : best landing net
Good price and best quality.
Good grip with soft rubber
Very light, so not tired..
Very strongly recommend!

Marc Oliver : easy on the fish and
Light weight and wide open, easy on the fish and fisherman
Dan Wisinski : Good buy
Product is as described
David A. : Good all purpose net.
Nice sized net for general freshwater bass and trout fishing from a canoe/kayak. Fine mesh and bag shape is easy on fish (to be released.) Floats if you drop it too. Mesh does tend to easily foul on treble hooks though. Otherwise it would be a 5.
VibeAdventure : Slip proof
Perfect size for my kayak
Austin tx : good kayak net
Very nice net, hooks don't get hung in fibers (rubber coated).. Only issue is the handle is a bit small diameter

I love this net! Great landing net for fly fishing and more!
Derek E : Nice net.
This net is nice and lightweight. Nets Steelhead just fine. I got the magnetic net release for it and it fits nice on the back.
John : Disappointed
Net hoop came bent and the elastic cord connected to the handle was partially cut. Bravo
Gene : Great net for a great price
This net is light and work well for me and just the right size for trout. I have used the net a few times. I can't ask for a better rubber net for the price.
Valerie : NIce!
Very nice quality net, not that we have actually caught a fish as yet, but if we did I feel confident we would find this product most helpful!
