Questions about Marine-Tex RM306K Marine-Tex - White, 14 oz.
Q:
Will the 14 ounce version fill 14 ounces of volume?
Answer: I wouldn't think so. the 14oz is weight, not volume. In addition, when you mix it, it's hard to get every last scrap out of the container.
Answer: I believe it will since it does not shrink once it cures.
Answer: No you will need 2
Answer: Not sure, but I would guess no.
Answer: Container of material is approx 6 - 7 fluid oz.
Q:
how long does it take to set up and harden?
Answer: Depends on the temp & thicknrss. @ 90+ deg it starts setting on about 5 min. Sandible after 2 hours.Fully hard after 24 hours. Make small batches & use multiple coats in deep cracks.
Answer: Begins to set up in 20 to 30 minutes. Hardens overnight.
Answer: Depends on the weather. If it's humid add a few hours. If it's dry it will set faster. Go with what the directions say and you can't go wrong.
Answer: Depends upon temp & humidity. I usually let set over night to be sure it is done.
Answer: It will almost hold on a vertical surface when mixed. You have 15-30 min pot life. Surface prep and final thickness where it counts are important.
Answer: I let it cure for 6 hours while I slept, hard as steel just like it says. Had a big gouge in hull fixed leak very impressed
Q:
can you leave marine tex as a base layer on the hull (below water line) for fresh water or are you supposed to gel coat over the marine tex?
Answer: My boats are whitewater canoes. I do not coat over the marine tex. If I need fiberglass cloth for a larger hole, i put it in the marine tex. I do have other marine epoxy patches and the marine tex has been more durable over the years.
Answer: The best way to get a smooth finish is to cover repair with plastic wrap and smooth with a straight edge. Leave plastic on until dry. Will dry smooth as gelcoat and no need to sand. Repair is waterproof and you’re done
Answer: Should not need to gel coat over unless you want a smoother finish. It is water proof.
Q:
what does the kit include???? Product details
Answer: It includes the putty and the liquid activator you mix with it before set up.
Q:
is it fuel proof, to repair an alumimum fuel tank.
Answer: No it is inter for fiberglass repair . Jb weld steel reinforced epoxy might work or Have your tank repaired professionally fuel cells are a safety hazard .
Answer: Check their website. It states there that it will work for fuel tanks.
Q:
What all you need to fill a cracked fiberglass 5th wheel (on the corner) does this work with tape or cloth or by itself.how much area does it cover
Answer: For large areas you may need something to back it. But it's mostly for holes and smaller cracks.
Answer: Hve no answer , drilled a hole in my 2 ' aluminum boat to install a SS drain plug , worked great for that
Answer: It works all by itself. It's great.
Q:
Could I use this product to repair a large crack running down the length of a plastic riding lawn mower hood?
Answer: I would say yes, prep the surface well.will harden harder than plastic tho.
Answer: I believe you could use it for your application
Answer: Yes, that should be no problem.
Q:
Will this repair a 1/2" x 2" hole in a fiberglass hull? Should I put tape one side to keep it from leaking out the other side?
Answer: Yes . It mixes up pretty thick probably would hurt to put some tape on one side
Q:
Im having real issues with my recent marine tex purchase, have mixed proper portions, have mixed correctly, Does not harden correctly 24 hrs
Answer: I was impressed with the product , I set a fan up in my shop to move air on my patch area and left it for the night with the room temperature at about 20*c then sanded the area as needed. Maybe call the manufacturer?
Answer: I never experienced the problem your talking about I guess I would contact the company and ask them what to do
Answer: It's a chemical reaction, obviously. Cold slows it down. Heat speeds it up. Isn't that obvious to anyone that knows anything?
Q:
Hi Everyone, I am wondering if I can screw into it after it sets?
Answer: Yes, you can drill and tap once it sets up. With it being a super hard epoxy I do not believe you can just screw into with a tapping screw though.
Answer: Yes, I put screws for a boat rail into it and the screws are holding very well.
Answer: Yes. Drill a pilot hole first.
Answer: I havent tried that, but im betting it will work as long as you drill a pilot hole.
Answer: Yes. You can drill into it also.
Answer: yes you can.
Answer: Yes!
Q:
Can you fill a small crack and feather out the edges on the side of an RV and have it stay on? The side will be cleaned and sanded before applying?
Answer: Clean the crack with acetone, sand, grind to open the crack as needed, clean again with acetone. I have prepped several spots on my boat as described above and the repairs have held up great. Marine Tex is an awesome product! It does not sand easily so smooth it before it sets.
Answer: If the rv is fiberglass . Yes
Answer: Should work great, but I would open the crack to a "V" shape first.
Q:
Would this be suitable for repairing a scarred keel. Damage 5 feet long by 1/4 inch thick by 1/4 inch wide at most?
Answer: Yes, prepare the surface correctly and you should get great results.
Q:
Ok I'm an idiot and screwed 8 screws through the bottom of my boat. Will this stuff fix my problem?
Answer: yes it will fix it I have had no problems with marine tex at all one tip though only mix a small amount at a time and keep the rest in the separate cans do not contaminate the putty and the hardener with each other and it will store for years for the next time (if you're like me) you mess up p.s. I fixed a atv fender with it too
Answer: Marine-Tex will fix your problem.
Answer: My guess is that if the holes are small enough to not need reinforcement of fiberglass cloth this slum work. I have used it on a fiberglass hull were railings pull lose and the stuff is solid. Try it and check the hull occasionally. Worst case you would have to drill it out and try something else, but I don't think that will happen.
Answer: My husband used it to repair holes to bottom of fiberglass boat it work great! So I think it should work for you
Answer: I have no doubt that if prepped property, this product would be perfect. Although I have only have used this on fiberglass so far. I did a test area on some fiberglass before I repaired areas on a jetski and I couldn't beat it off with a hammer. I dries extremely hard. Sanding down over filled areas will take 30min to an hour by hand.
Answer: Fiber Glass yes - make sure you paint to seal. ALUMINIUM not sure.
Answer: Yes, just make sure the area is clean. The Marine-Tex is completely waterproof.
Q:
How much area does it cover?
Answer: It fills the same volume as the size container; i.e. a 4oz can fills a half cup
Answer: It depends, what you are trying to do ?
Q:
Wiil it adhere to ployethylene to repair a kayak?
Answer: I would think so.
Q:
Have a cracked bath tub from poor installation will this work I'm a big guy and the putty stuff I got before did not hold?
Answer: LIke to be able to tell you for sure, I used it to repair a fiberglass boat, it worked very well for that...Sorry I couldnt give you a better answer
Answer: This product is strong. However, it may not support a lot of weight in this type of application. Can't say for sure???
Q:
would it repair a crack in the bottom of a fiberglass boat
Answer: It should. Just follow the directions for prep. Of course, there are cracks and there are CRACKS. Check YouTube for suggestions on use and prep.
Answer: It would be good filler. But I would glassing over both sides for structural integrity.
Answer: Yes if not structural.
Q:
Would this work for a polyuthene plastic kayak a big hole
Answer: If its a thru hole-- no
Q:
Can this be used on a fiberglass surf board or will it melt the core?
Answer: Not sure about a surfboard. I live in WV. Not many waves around here to ride. I used it on my fiberglass 19' Bayliner. Worked wonders on it.
Answer: It can be used on a fiberglass surf boardd. It can be used on anything. It is also water proof.
Answer: I have used it successfully on my surfboard in 1970. It's still holding.
Q:
Can this be mixed with any type of dye or pigment to match the exterior color of a boat hull?
Answer: yes, you can mix gel coat pigment. Manufacturer does give a ratio in the instructions not to exceed. It comes out of the can very white. There is also a gray, so watch the color you order for tinting. Pigment is available online (Tap Plastic) and I believe West Marine also.
Answer: Probably not a dye as it is like Bondo or mashed potatoes, not very smooth. However I am sure it could be painted after sanding.
Answer: I've mixed it and gotten close. You can still tell it has been repaired but it looks much better than it did before. I've used various paints and it doesn't seem to affect the bonding power.
Answer: The white can. I am uncertain about thr grey.
Answer: test a small amount . . . see what happens
Answer: Yes
Q:
Can MarineTex be applied underwater, for emergency repairs?
Answer: I doubt that it could be applied under water; don't think it could dry. It was designed to fix cracks in boat hulls but I think it has to be done in "dry" mode initially.
Answer: yes. it's not recommended, but it can be done. See their website for directions.
Answer: I don't know for sure but I doubt it. It takes too long to set.
Q:
Is this product uv stable? if i use it to fill some holes/gouges in the deck of my sailboat, do i need to paint over this stuff? or is it good as is?
Answer: Don't know about uv stable. I used on my rv and it worked fine for what I needed. It will have to be sanded down.
Answer: I used it on some gouges on my fiberglass hull. Just need to remove access quickly to reduce sanding. It will harden like steal
Q:
Is it paintable?
Answer: Definitely. Just prep and clean it properly before painting.
Answer: yes
Q:
Looking for a way to fix a hole in the cast iron of my gray water drain in my basement. Think this would work?
Answer: Probably depending on the size of the hole it will work---I have used this stuff for various things for about 60 years, and it is great---hardens like steel and usually better than what it fixed.
Answer: I have used this product for pretty much most of my life on all kinds of projects. I am very satisfied with it. I would try it but I have never used it on cast iron myself. Not knowing any more details that is my answer.
Answer: No . This is for fiberglass repair , JB Weld marine is what would work best for that application .
Answer: seems like it would, although i imagine there are purpose specific epoxies for that application.
Answer: Yes scuff metal with sandpaper for good adhesion
Q:
what are the application instructions
Answer: Most items come with instructions. Some items may seem so obvious that any instructions may be limited. I often watch a video if I can't figure it out.
Q:
I have two cuts in the bottom of my fiberglass hull made with a saw blade goes all the way through. Will this seal it completly up
Answer: Yes, I'm sure this will do the trick, I had a hole from a 2 inch pipe pierce the side of my hull through the glass
Answer: Yes it will.
Q:
Will this adhere underwater to cement?
Answer: I've only done that once but it worked just fine. I lived on a boat and made some repairs underwater also.
Answer: No . Better to use marine jb weld or another product .
Q:
I am ripping out the water damaged subfloor of my motorhome and resinstalling with ac plywood. Could I use this to waterproof?
Answer: I wouldn't use it for that purpose. I would research plywood waterproofing.
Answer: Yes, if you are going to skim coat. Make sure the surface is dry and clean and have the area where you are working around 70-75 degrees F.
Answer: I guess you could , but I would use a 2 part marine epoxy for that type of application. It can be brushed or rolled on like paint.
Answer: It could be, if wood is properly prepared. It will be quite expensive though.
Answer: You could but it is thick and would be expensive.
Q:
will this repair a corroded area on a salt water tank where metal outflow pipe exits tank?
Answer: probably
Answer: I think it would.
Q:
Will this help fix a cracked bathtub?
Answer: Yes, it will work perfectectely. You will Ned to paint it later just to match the collors
Q:
I was wondering if this would fill a 1 inch crack I have in a fiber glass boat hull I have ? The crack is under the boat
Answer: Marine Tex is made to repair fiberglass. However a Crack in the hull is a vulnerable area, if it were me I would go to a boat yard and ask. The hull takes a beating and I would not be comfortable having just Marine Tex as my repair. Good luck
Answer: Yes. When the boat is hauled out ( Iam assuming it usually is in the water) clean out the crack in an inverted "V" manner and apply the marine tex. Follow the instructions that comes with the box.
Answer: It will fill perfectly. But you will need the boat outside water, cleaned out the area to be effective. You can't expect anything to stick without proper cleaning.
Answer: yes, easily and with integrity
Q:
I need to put something like this down as a base. Then I need to glue a wood support to it. Will 3M 5200 adhere to this product?
Answer: There are several super epoxy's out there. Tell me what you are trying to accomplish. What is this base on top of ? How big is the wood? How much support does it need to carry ECT. I'll be out until 7pm this evening but I'll look for an answer then.
Answer: I would imagine it would work. It sets up just like fiberglass. Very strong.
Q:
Can it be applied to a wet surface
Answer: I always try to apply to a dry surface. I think it would work fine if you used it to fill a sizable hole in wet material, but not sure how well it would adhere if you used it to cover a superficial scratch on a very wet surface.
Answer: Once mixed It is a cream/putty type texture, I don't think you would get the best results applying it to wet surface,
Q:
Would you use to repair a a hole in fiberglass the size of a nickle
Answer: Yes. rough up all of the surrounding area on both sides. you can sand this product once dry and paint it.
Q:
Can i fill couple of screw. Holes in the transom of my boat and its below the water line will this fill and seal out the water
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Yes, but it can be difficult to fill the holes if they are blind. The trapped air can open small holes. May take a couple of tries. I am assuming you will have the boat out of the water.
Answer: I've not used this product for that purpose but it is one of the best products I've used to stick everything I've tried. I first purchased the product at a boat supply place and have used on plastic and metal.
Answer: Yes it is very durable I used it on my above ground pool
Q:
Would this work to patch a hole in a poly/plastic kyak below the water line?
Answer: Yes! That is its main purpose.
Q:
I have lots of hairline cracks inside the cabin of a boat - can this product cover those so I can paint over them?
Answer: You may have to grind them out bigger , this has the texture of tooth paste when applied and sands very nicely, good luck , very nice product to work with
Q:
Does it come with hardener?
Answer: Yes, has everything you need.
Q:
Can this be used to seal a hairline crack in my pool filter housing with high pressure and water when the housing is closed?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: This is a great product. I use it for many repairs.
Answer: With proper surface prep and enough thickness about the crack, yes. This stuff can fix anything if you use a tiny bit of care.
Q:
Will MT repair a cleaned rusted out area of inside boiler wall with steel plating over repair once cured? High heat firebox area non pressurized sys
Answer: I don't know how high of a temperature it will tolerate. MT is like fiberglass when cured so I think it would melt or burn at high temps. You had better ask manufacturer what temp. it is rated for!
Q:
Do I have to use it all at once, or will it go bad?
Answer: No you can use what you need and save the remainder. I actually used mine 2yrs ago and just recently used it again. Just keep it in a cool dry place.
Answer: No, and no. It's a two part mixing product. The picture is deceiving however. Two heaping tablespoons is really all you get.
Answer: It's difficult to get the mixture right without mixing all ingredients. Once opened it tends to harden and becomes harder to mix .
Answer: Just mix up the amount you need. As long as you don't mix the hardener in with the material it will last and each individual package
Q:
Will this work for inground pool steps made out of thermoplastic?
Answer: I expect it would. Check out the Marine-Tex web site, which has lots of information about various applications http://www.marinetex.com/. You can contact their staff if you have other specific questions.
Q:
Does it work on a crack in an abs filter pump? does it hold the pressure of the pump afterwards?
Answer: It very strong and might work with good surface prep. Another and even stronger repair would be a 2 part epoxy with fiberglass cloth. Again surface prep is key.
Answer: This is generally for fiberglass repair , JB weld marine steel reinforced epoxy would be best used in your application .
Q:
How much surface area will one container cover at 1/4" thick?
Answer: Only bought a small one. Covered quite a lot and still have 23 can left
Q:
Have to fix a few holes on my boat deck, do I just apply and sand down or do I have to paint and re-gelcoat?
Answer: depends on the color-- it dries white
Q:
Does all of the product need to be used the 1st time, or can a portion be used saving the rest for later?
Answer: There are two parts mixed 5 to 1 and what is not used will last a very long time. This stuff is high quality. I'd rate it 3 to 5 times better than JB weld.
Answer: you can use only what you need and save the rest for later application
Answer: I mixed only the amount that I needed for the first repair, then about eight months later mixed another small amount. Still have plenty left for small projects. Just reseal the fiberglass container can, and the solvent, and store in a dry place.
Q:
it says 10,000 psi could this be used to re-secure a bow ring to a boat?
Answer: It could repair the area but you might want to add some better backing inside the boat that allowed it to pull thru I the first place, Marine Tex is great stuff but I use it on many applications.
Answer: quite possibly. It's stronger than any adhesive I've ever worked with.
Q:
i was wondering if you could use marine-tex to repair a small crack on a rim?
Answer: I'm not sure I would recommend it for a steel rim , I would be concerned about the integrity of the rim , for safety reasons I would replace the rim.
Answer: Yes, but if there is a lot of weight or stress on the spot it may crack again.
Answer: It will probably work but if it is on a car or truck be careful
Q:
can it be used on aluminum boat
Answer: I would think so. It basically cures very hard. I used it to stick wood to steel. Just clean the aluminum surface from dust, oxides, and oils first.
Answer: I would say no but the description says it works on metal so possibly it will be ok just wont blend in. The box is smaller than you think so wont cover a large area consider that too.
Q:
Can this product be use to fill a 5 inch diameter hole on the deck of a fiberglass bathtub?
Answer: Epoxy is stronger than fiberglass and will patch a hole the best.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Need more info. Do you have access to to the backside as well? Are you going to refinish the tub when the repair is completed, and if so what type of paint are you using? does the hole have rough edges on the topside? End use of the tub?
Answer: If it's a spot where the gel coat has chipped off probably but if it's a hole most likely it would need glassed in from the back side. Then you could use to smooth out the patch.
Product reviews of Marine-Tex RM306K Marine-Tex - White, 14 oz.
KC Fan : Best stuff out there!
I have a fiberglass 1983 Fish and Ski boat that I have owned since 1987. It's had a lot of wear and tear over the years and I developed a few leaks (from age and hitting trees and rocks). A repair shop was going to cost over $1000.00. After doing research, I found Marine Tex about 6 months ago. I had no experience with this type of repair work. This stuff is amazing. I bought the 14oz size (White). It dries hard as a rock. Thank goodness Amazon has this at a great price (the best I have found) and super fast shipping! I highly recommend!!
William Blake : Great stuff for repair
Really good stuff, really good , but a pain in the arse to sand .. I would and will reuse it
Thomas Peake : Not bad
Needs to come with plastic sheets to use for forming
James : Works well
This Item needs better instructions. They could put some type of measuring device into the box so you can get the mixture correct.
T. Fleming : The repair is undetectable
I damaged our truck camper which has a white fiberglass exterior. The Marine-Tex repair matched the color (white) exactly and the repair (a 6 inch tear) is now solidly and invisibly repaired. This is better than I had hoped. I would include a photo but there really isn't anything to see.
Misty : Works amazing
I used this for a blister in my spa. Very easy to work with and smooths out nice.
Mr. Wizard : Easy to use.
I use it on my white boat. Great for rapid repairs especially when you don't want to paint the spot right away.
DysFunky1 : Super hard curing and easy to mix
This stuff mixed easily on a piece of cardboard, and if you use the whole thing in one shot you just basically mix the whole package together. It cures very hard and is white so after sanding is easy to paint over. It sealed up some holes in my old fiberglass Livingston and definitely made it more solid.
YankeeinSC : No Problems - It Works
We use this a lot over the year around the home for various projects and it always works. The price was better than buying it in various marine stores we shopped at, so purchased on line.
Jaz : Awesome stuff for repairing exterior wood.
I bought this to repair the end of a huge old beam that runs the length of my 100 year old house and sticks out of the front. Obviously not something one considers replacing lightly so a lasting repair was in order. Marine-tex is old school and works great. It's hard as rock when cured and soaks nicely in to wood. Sands well with a power sander. It takes time to cure allowing you time to work with it BUT it will run if applied thickly to a vertical surface. I just used a bit of cardboard to keep it in place and then pulled it off when it was fully cured. A bit of sanding and paint and you can't even tell.
gary : Marine Tex is a great product for home or boat.
A real structural epoxy. Great item
Herb G. : Works very well
A bit hard to work with but it does fix the problem.
Kpm1993 : Incredibly sturdy.
So easy to use.. Prep, mix, apply.. Done.
I've used this product multiple times and continue finding things to repair with it.
Worth what you spend!
Richard S. : Wrong product sent
I ordered white ,I was sent grey . White is better for fiberglass repairs, grey is for mending metal were hardness is needed
Dave_B : I love Marine-Tex
I love Marine-Tex. I used it this time to patch my kayak and it worked perfectly
Marcos Pablo : Didn't set.
I think the hardener was too old. I've used this product before and it worked great. This time, it wouldn't set up. I measured it, mixed it long enough, it was in the 70's outside. Every surface was super clean. I spent two days digging out a bunch of rubbery goop. Later I did a test batch inside with perfect conditions. After a full three days to set, I could still stick my fingernail in.
Mitch : Yellowing on white paint.
This stuff worked great to fix and cover small holes and dents structurally, but Unfortunately it reacted poorly with our Rustoleum Topside Marine paint that we put over it. In many places it turned the paint yellow around the patched holes and dings. Doesn't look like we wanted it too.
YankeeinSC : No Problems - It Works
We use this a lot over the year around the home for various projects and it always works. The price was better than buying it in various marine stores we shopped at, so purchased on line.
Hiperf2007 : Seems like it was already dried this morning but I pulled ...
My application is a hull of a 2002 seadoo gtx 4tec. Applied last night at 7pm. Seems like it was already dried this morning but I pulled off the mixing stick from the mixing board and some was still wet.
Might have to apply direct heat to the hull for awhile so it warms up inside out also.
The surface was rock hard. Will be fun trying to sand this stuff - not.
If I only have to do it once I will be happy.
Will be installing a keelguard after the repair.
4 out of 5 stars just because of the unknowns yet. Seems to be drying good.
It was easy to apply in my eyes. It was easier than spreading JB weld.
I made sure I wiped the surface down about 6 times with cleaner before apply and roughed up with 120 grit.
Will report back if I have any problems.
UPDATE - 4/13
Not 100% sure how to edit the original reviews so I will just put it here. The putty turned out very very hard. Very tough to sand.
Expect to use 36 or 80 grit to knock down high spots. I spent over and hour or two with 80 grit just trying to get the correct shape of my hull.
Turned out pretty good I would have to say. I have only sanded it to 120 grit so far because I had to take the jetski out and make sure it was going to run good before anymore time was put into it.
I used several layers of masking tape on the good surface to make sure I didn't go into the good gelcoat. As soon as the tape started to get roughed up it was time to stop and feel for the step difference.
Very surprised how hard this stuff got. I used a couple old measuring cups to make sure I got the correct amount when mixing.
Mixed for a full 4 minutes. I made sure the heat in the shop stayed at 74 degrees for the full 24 hours.
It does dry very slow.
Hit some pretty hard waves on saturday and it's still there - so far so good.
norcalman67 : Used Marine Tex on, to apply a fiberglass body ...
Used Marine Tex to apply a fiberglass body kit, my Opel GT back in 1991. 14 years later I had a small fender bender. Was happy to see that the Marine Tex held firmly to the sheet metal, only breaking the fiberglass. The body shop noted that there was zero rust where the Marine Tex was applied, making their job easier.
Recently used Marine Tex to bond a fiberglass belly pan to another Opel GT. All I can say is the product performed as good today, as it did back in 1991.
LauraAW25 : Works well
Quality product
Avenger : great stuff
I had a bad storm catch me out on the big water I headed in to the bayou and I damaged my pirogue bottom on some cypress tree knees in the shallow trying to beach and wait it out, I thought it was a goner but this marine tex is great I was able to repair it with a combination of this for the small holes, dings and fiber glass for the big one ,I thought I did not order enough but it is really a lot of the marine tex in a small package I will get some more for a emergency stash, It is really easy to work with and sands down smooth I used a orbital sander with fine grit it worked great all the repairs are still holding up no problems and i'm on the water everyday
MHunt : Fixed railing anchors
I needed to repair the hull of a boat where the railing had broken loose. I tried some epoxies before finding this product. I was extremely pleased with the way this product handled and once it set it the screws holding the railing were rock solid. I'll be keeping this around for future repairs.
Anderson406 : Good
Fixed a spot on my jet ski with it worked good
Persnickety Client : Great stuff!
Marine tex is by far one of the best repair putty's available for boats. It can be used to fill or repair almost any size hole or defect. Sanding is easy and it bonds very well. I have used it on aluminum boats for years and it holds up very well. I repaired an aluminum gas tank with it and it lasted for 15+ years with no problems. I am sure it has its limitations but I have yet to find them.
Ted : I LOVE MARINETEX!!!
This is a real review, I paid full price for this item
Easiest way to apply:
2x plastic spoons
Small paper bowl or plate (do not use cups because they make it difficult to fully mix)
Make sure you do not use the same spoon for scooping out different ingredients, one spoon goes in epoxy, the other in hardener, they never touch. Scoop one on one side of the plate and one on the other. If you want you can have a small scale under plate to get perfect ratio, but I've been able to eyeball it without any problems
This stuff is absolutely amazing for covering up exposed fiberglass on boat bottom (scrapes from beaching), old screw holes, lots of repairs where gelcoat is damaged. It should not be used for any structural repairs, use fiberglass + resin for that, this is only gelcoat/small non-structural holes
It sands very well using ultrasonic sander, hand sanding works too but takes a while. Try to get it as smooth as possible before it fully dries, I used my hand in rubber glove to smooth it out, then sand when fully cured the next day
Phillip Pham : Best product over other brands.
Used it to repair some chips and a gouge on the hull of my boat. This stuff is awesome. I would definitely use this over the other typical marine epoxies.
Mix in small batches. Hardened like a rock.

Perfect
Captain Tom : Worked Well Repairing Gel-coat Scratches
Worked well in repairing some hull gel-coat dock-scrapes. Mixing the two-part system required some care: used to identical sticks to insure the 5:1 volume:volume ratio (I used smooth disposable plastic silverware handles). Instructions claim there is only a 10% leeway in the proportions and all six batches so far worked fine, curing and allowing wet sanding after several hours. It is white and may contrast a bit with a 44 year old hull, but not enough to try to mix in a colorant in my case. At 85-90 degrees F., it handled more like cheap toothpaste than 'putty,' but with a firm plastic scraper, I was able to fill most scratches in one application, and all in two with sanding between applications.
The instructions start with "mix all of part A (can) with all of part B (jar)" - if you need that much at once you will need an application crew and should likely consider a bulk purchase. Photos are of pre and post port-side two-application hull repairs.
Bigjohn : Excellent product
Good stuff. Great for fast repair chips or gouges in any thing made from fibei glass. I have used this product for years with great success. Easy to mix and apply. Dries hard can be sanded so it can have paint or hellcat applied. Would recommend to others
Misty : Works amazing
I used this for a blister in my spa. Very easy to work with and smooths out nice.
island time : Good product for a craft project
The product arrived promptly and worked well for my shell mirror project. I needed small batches so I weighed the epoxy and hardener at 6.3 parts epoxy to 1 part hardener, using a kitchen scale. I chose Marine Tex because I needed a thicker epoxy.
lowjohn : Excellent job
I took out a 2" X 4" surface chunk from my swim platform and it looked really bad. I used Marine-Tex white and it is a perfect match and also a good finish. The install was easy with a flexible spreader. Sanding was also easier than I thought it would be. I finished it off with a very fine sandpaper and several coats of wax. I'm very happy with the product.
Amazon Customer : The best
This product works on our swimming pool steps that got crack on it
Kpm1993 : Incredibly sturdy.
So easy to use.. Prep, mix, apply.. Done.
I've used this product multiple times and continue finding things to repair with it.
Worth what you spend!

Very easy to work with.
Diriel : Marine Tex is very good at repairing various things
Marine Tex is very good at repairing various things. My dad fixed a leak in his car radiator tank. He used it to fix a leaking riding lawn mower gas tank. The main reason he bought it was to make repairs to a fibreglass hulled boat, which it did very well.
Good stuff.
Dog mom : Strong product works great
Messy and hard to get just right first time but looks great and holds up really well after some trial and error
YankeeinSC : No Problems - It Works
We use this a lot over the year around the home for various projects and it always works. The price was better than buying it in various marine stores we shopped at, so purchased on line.
Prime Candidate : Best epoxy ever made
Been using it for years around the homestead. Can't beat it for strength & reliability.
FetvusForTheRestuvus : When you need the best
I am shocked at this stuff. It's expensive but when you need the best because a leak would be devastating to your boat or (in my case) 2nd floor custom shower that I've dumped 1000's of dollars into, then you buy the best leak proof stuff you can find. And this is it.
Dries slowly enough to work it for about 5 minutes depending on thickness. Had a glossy shine when dry. Bright white. Stronger than mortar and grout. Amazing stuff.
Anderson406 : Good
Fixed a spot on my jet ski with it worked good
Amazon Customer : Excellent
Fix anything ! Best stuff money can buy ! To do repairs
Steve : Time will tell
I used it to repair some scratches in my boat's gelcoat. It was difficult to measure, so some guessing was involved. It seems tough once dried and sanded to a smooth finish. I also used it to repair a hole in a piece of metal fitting that had broken. Most of it dried to a hard finish, but part of it remained tacky even after several days (maybe the ratio was off or maybe I didn't mix it good enough). I sanded, painted and drilled a hole where the screw was supposed to go. After tightening the screw a bit, the putty cracked right where I thought it would be the strongest. Not sure what happened there. So far it seems to be a good product for the gelcoat repair. I just hope it is tough enough and lasts a long time.
Dave_B : I love Marine-Tex
I love Marine-Tex. I used it this time to patch my kayak and it worked perfectly
David Elliott : Great stuff
Patched a gash on our RV great stuff. Get pigment and mix before you add hardener
PJM : Putty good stuff
Pretty good stuff. Mixes easily and colorable if needed. Fairly long working time. Able to smooth with wet finger prior to setting up to mitigate sanding (I recommend doing so). I used it on my boat for some gel coat stress cracks with color and it seems strong. Drawback; not recommended for gel coating and by far cheap. A small can is what you get. It was easy to work with and will update review if issues arise.
