Questions about Shimano Triton 200G Levelwind Graphite Fishing Reel
Q:
pole size
Answer: I have a 7 foot pole and it works great together; although, I've seen some people use 7 and 1/2 to 8 foot poles also.
Answer: I have paired it with a 7’ ugly stick tuna pole one piece. I really like it.
Q:
Any suggestions on the smallest pole needed for large fresh water and inland saltwater (everglades)
Q:
Where can find a mounting adapter?
Answer: I would check the Shimano website. If not there then I would look on amazon or google it.
Q:
Where are these made.
Answer: The Triton 100G and the 200G are both made in Malaya. The top of the line reels (like the Stella) are made in Japan. Between my friends, my sons, and myself, we own 3 200Gs and 1 100G. We use them for Blackfish, Ling, Sea bass, Porgy, and other saltwater bottom fish. They are great reels! I highly recommend them.
Answer: Some Shimano reels are made in Japan some in Malaysia. Great quality either way. Tritons are especially good quality for the price. Used them for many years for my Kenai river fishing guide service.
Answer: of course, china
Q:
does it nhave a let hand also
Answer: Not currently in stock
Answer: nope
Q:
if i order this item will i get the 200G ?
Answer: I would ignore the pics that is shown of a 100G and look at the specs below. Amazon often shows pics of the common item, it's the specs that count. You'll notice that in the specs the reel is manufacture discontinued. Take it from me, it is hard to get all replacement parts. Even though the reel is a good product, I suggest you check for a later Shimano reel that has not been discontinued.
Q:
How many inches across is this real
Answer: The length of the main body is 5 inches. If you include the handle with the knob the length is 5 7/8 inches. Here are a couple of other measurements: The width of the reel's body is 3 1/8 inches (this includes the release lever). Add the handle and knob in and the width is 5 1/4 inches. Also, if you read Amazon's Product description you will notice this reel is manufacturers discontinued. This picture shows a TR 100g which the length is about 1 inch narrower (holds less line).
Answer: About 4 inches across. It's the smallest trolling reel I have found
Q:
Would a 200 work well for sharks/rays 50lb plus?
Answer: I would go with a stronger/larger Shimano reel. I've pulled in some 8 to 10 pound Blackfish and Bluefish with it and it was a little tough. I also hooked (unfortunately) a Cow Nose Ray that pulled out my drag until the 30 lb test shock line broke (I was using 55 lb braid with 30 lb shock line attached). I could not stop it. It is a good reel for smaller than the fish you want to fish for. I liked it enough that I bought one for my son.
Answer: Have 2 of these wound with 80lb. braided line and used them for years in Central America for tarpon up to 200 lbs. mahi mahi, roosterfish and sailfish. They never failed. Love these reels
Answer: Yes, this should work but it may be a little on the light weight side but with braid you should have plenty of line capacity. I've used mine to catch 20-30lb fish with no problem. You're going to want a rod with a lot of backbone to keep the fish off the reefs and rocks.
Q:
The overall wight and line capacity are the same for both reels....so what is the difference between the tr100 and the tr200?
Answer: I only difference I saw was the reel size number
Answer: TR100G: Linecapacity (lbs/yds): 12/390, 14/330, 17/250
Answer: That sounds like a typo- the 100 is smaller than the 200.
Q:
Is this left handed or right handed.??
Answer: This is a right handed retrieve. The picture clearly shows this. This model (or the 100G model) is not available in a left hand retrieve.
Answer: I believe that they make both but mine is one that you reel with your right hand.
Answer: Right handed
Answer: Right
Q:
Can the 100,or 200 be used to cast from shore cut bait
Answer: Yes, I use it to fish off a pier. No problem casting.
Answer: I really don't know. I purchased two of them and only one worked. I give the other one away
Q:
is this the 100 or the 200 why does it not say what model it is?
Answer: Hi, this is a 200 (TRN200G) It's a nice reel.
Q:
Can I get a larger handle for my 200g ?
Answer: Not sure. This would be a question to ask on the Shimano website.
Q:
What is the gear ratio?
Answer: 4.3:1
Q:
Can you shift it faster with extra pay ?
Answer: This reel is one speed only; no shift.
Q:
does it have a bait clicker?
Answer: Yes, it has a clicker. I love mine.
Answer: Yes, it does
Q:
what does TR stand for ?
Answer: TR stands for the product name "TRITON"
Answer: If you check the Shimano webpage, TR is only a series a number. Anyway, TR is not important. What is important is that both the 100G and 200G are great reels for saltwater fishing. I currently have both models and have caught plenty of Striped Bass, Blackfish, Bluefish (and I mean "Big" Bluefish!), and Fluke with no problems!
Answer: I don't know but I can tell you it's a piece of junk. Took them fishing and didn't work. Glad I took a back-up
Q:
Do you have left hand retrieve?
Answer: Mine is a right hand retrieve.
Q:
Can u use this reel for catching sturgeon and wat size line can u put on it
Answer: This reels line capacity is lbs. (yds.) is 14(480) 17(400) and 20(300). It's a pretty sturdy reel. I bought it when it first came out years ago and still works like new. I have used it for tuna on my boat and never had a problem. It might be too small for mammoth sturgeons, but for smaller ones I think it would do the job.
Q:
can i use this to telescopic rod?
Answer: If the handle fits standard reel bases, I can't see you having any problem mounting the reel. I would, however, suggest you by the 100G model (it is not as wide as this 200G) that is just as strong as he 200G if you are looking to save space when you pack it. I assume you want to save space because you intend to use a telescopic rod.
Answer: Yes you can. I use a telescopic rod myself. This may be the best reel made , for the money. I bought this to match one that I bought in 1989 which is still in fine working condition.
Answer: The reel has a standard reel base and will connect to most fishing rods. I own over a dozen Shimano TR100 and TR200 reels and have no issues attaching them to any of my poles.
Answer: This reel is a good solid reel that works very well for medium/heavy fresh and light/medium salt water fishing. As long as the rod can handle that level of fishing it should be fine.
Answer: It should work like any other reel change on a rod.
Answer: yes as long as it has a reel seat
Answer: i don't see why not
Q:
Is this reel's model number tr100g or tr200g?
Answer: The model number is TRN200G. Great reel for the price.
Answer: I own a tr200G.
Answer: I believe it is the 200
Answer: It is TR200-G
Q:
Can you run 25 lbs test on this reel?
Answer: Yes, but the casting distance is reduced (I am assuming your are asking about monofilament line, not braided) . I use 55 lb test braided line with 5 feet of 40 lb test flurocarbon leader. If you are just dropping your bait straight down and not casting, 25 lb mono test works fine
Answer: Yes. You can use that. I've got that on mine. It's a great reel for heavy freshwater (catfish) and inshore fishing. Check out the Shimano website for line specifications.
Answer: Yes, I used 25 pound florocarbon all last summer
Answer: Shimano tr200 - Mono line capacity: 20lb/300yds (6kg /438 m), but I've used 25lb mono without any problems.
Q:
is this a good reel for catching muskie?
Answer: I only fish salt water and have use it for bluefish and strippers. Works well for me
Q:
Is this right-hand?
Answer: Yes the reel is right handed. Please excuse the delayed response.
Answer: Mine is right handed. You can get a left handed one. If I remember correctly it will ask you when you purchase it. Left handed model has a different model number.
Answer: When you attach it to your fishing rod the handle is on the right side of the reel.
Answer: Yes, the retrieve handle is on the right side of the reel.
Answer: Yes it's.
Q:
What is the capacity of 100lb braided line on this reel?
Answer: See what the capacity is for 50 lb and multiply it by 1/2, or 25 lb and multiple by 1/4. If you need 100 lb test line, you may want to consider a larger reel.
Q:
Is this ok for casting baits dead baits for surf fishing. I was going to get the kids into surf fishing on the Texas coast. Reds,drum,Shark..
Answer: I use to have one of these I used for just that on the Texas coast near High Island. They are great bulletproof reels. I used this particular rig a little closer in to the beach, and some heavier outfits with more line capacity farther out. Still, have caught a lot of bull reds and smaller blacktips with this reel without problems.
Answer: Not the best for casting. If you know what your doing you can cast with it , but for kids I think you might end up with a lot of bird nests you have to untangle.
Answer: for surf fishing i like a big spinning reel this is a slower reel better for something like salmon
Q:
Does this reel come in a lever drag set-up?
Answer: The TR charter Special is a lever drag model. The TLD's are also lever drags too.
Answer: No. It's a star drag on it.
Q:
is this good for perch fishing?
Answer: This is a little big for perch fishing. I use it for heavy catfishing in freshwater and inshore fishing in saltwater for reds, sea trout, bottom fishing.
Answer: If your using the perch as your bait for something larger, then yes.
Answer: Nile Perch maybe. lol. This is more heavy duty than you would need for yellow perch.
Answer: Yes this reel would be fine
Q:
What is Levelwind coventional reel ? Using for casting or trolling?
Answer: When letting line out of the reel or reeling it in, the levelwind guides the line onto the reel evenly so that the line is evenly dispersed in the spool. I use this reel mainly bait fishing for catfish and striped bass, but it also works well for trolling. It depends on how comfortable you are with using a bait caster.
Answer: You can cast this reel but it is best used to troll for larger fish, as I do for salmon out of Humboldt Bay in Eureka California. I own three of these reels and find them durable and a great bargain for the price. I have owned them going on four seasons without a problem. Keep them oiled and release the drag over the winter and these should last a long time.
Answer: Its good for trolling. Not a great casting reel.
Answer: Hi Long. you can use as casting reel, but you need to adjust spool tensioner. they are used in Australia for this purpose as well for trolling.
Answer: My husband and I use it for trolling.
Q:
Can i use it in a 12' spinning rod?
Answer: I have it on a 12' surf rod which I had a spinning reel on 1st and all I can say is you can cast alot further with this reel then you can with a spinning reel and you dont burn your fingers on the line when casting heavy weight the way you do with a spinning reel
Answer: No it is not a spinning reel
Answer: You can use it but for casting your better off using a spinning reel.

UncleBob : Great Reel
THis appears to be a great reel for the money. I havent fished with it yet but it seems well made and smooth. I spooled it with about 350 yards of 50lb Power Pro, with a top shot of 50lb Mono. Plenty of capacity.
Ashley : These reels are amazing! They are all my dad and I have ...
These reels are amazing! They are all my dad and I have ever used! They're perfect for salt and fresh water. We attach them to 15 foot surf rods and fish from the shore in the saltwater and then switch them to 10 foot rods for the freshwater. The star drag is nice and loud in case you want to set it loose if you're not going to be staring at your pole the whole time. As much as we use them, which is 3-5 times a week, the worm gear goes out about once every year-year and a half but it's expected. Local rod and reel shops can usually quickly repair it for 10.00-15.00 bucks. I will continue to use these reels for life.

Bill & Amy : Excellent Customer Service
The particular reels I received had some type of internal tolerance issue where they would slip into free spool when locked in with clickers on disengaging both clicker and spool locking mechanism.
I had not used them for the first time before the time frame to return them had expired.
Ended up sending both to the Shimano repair center who inspected and returned them saying they met factory specs.
Not sure what the true issue is and I've owned several of these very same reels over the years with no problems. Although there was disappointment with the product the customer service provided by the supplier Pescadero was above and beyond expectation.
brian lizana : It's a piece of junk , useless
I bought this reel thinking it would be a good asset to my line up but I was dead wrong it is the worst casting reel I have ever purchased and won't use it ever again I have several casting reels and this one isn't worth dam don't buy it you will regret doing so
Charles E. Weeder : Great smooth operating reel
Excellent lead core reel. Can get 10 colors with room for some backing. Reel works smoothly, and has been flawless. I use it for trolling lakes in Colorado for white bass, walleye, and trout.

Maria L. : Great Levelwind
Have taken this reel on two half day trips off Long Beach for bottom fish. Initially meant to be a backup reel but became my primary when my other reel went down. It is light in weight, has good line capacity. It performed flawlessly. Will be taking it on future trips.
