Is anyone fishing swimbaits for smallmouth? If you are, how are they working?
I have had some luck with the Swim Senko.

I saw an episode of the Bass Pro's and KVD was ripping the Strike King King Shad and fishing it really fast to catch smallies on it. Never tried it but the theory sounded good coming from him in that you need a swimbait that you can really burn back and get reaction strikes from the smallies in clearer water.
I have gotten several on a sebile magic swimmer...Have had alot follow a basstrix to the boat without touching it.
They love Mattlure's perch and if there is a lot of cloud cover I can usually get them to choke the Berkley hollow bellies.

Yes, I used a swim bait on Monday and caught a 2 plus pounder on it. It was the kind with the paddle like tail that I used to use for Calico, sand a spotted bay bass in California a few years back that I had in my tackle box and I just decided to try it. It was brown and silver color. I also caught walleye on it the same day.
Are you talking about soft swimbaits, little swimbaits, or "real" swimbaits ie: big wooden/plastic baits bigger than 6"?
I use and love the Yum Money Minnow in the 5-1/2" version. I have caught quite a few over 4lbs this year with it. The large mouth love them as well. I use them year round believe it or not. You won't load the boat with numbers but your average size will be greater on it. It is my go to bait.
I went out on the Susky in Pa with a guide who had me fishing YUM super fluke on a weighted hook. It produced over 60 sm's
I too have used the Yum Money Minnow but have had limited success. I have only used the 4-inch version though and I seem to get a lot of "bumps" but not really any takers.
I'd throw a tube or senko where I had a hit and would catch a lot of fish doing that, but i's frustrating that they weren't taking the swimbait.
I have also somewhat tried to burn a King Shad but I never got a hit. I must say there have been some brutes that follow, but none comitted this year.
Spinnerbaits & jerks seemed to work better for some reason...
Swimbaits have been very good for me this fall, especially for a bit larger SMB. These two Footballs are an example of the fish that have been hammering these baits while I was "walleye fishing".
Funny how it often works that way ~ . . . . . .

those are some fatties
I have caught a few on some 4" swimbaits made by magic swimbaits I think. I actually got into them later on in the year so limited use, but the first time I threw it out into a channel between to rock shoals, I caught 2 nice smallies on my first 2 casts.....can't complain! I think if you are looking for #'s, fish a reasonable sized swimbait, like 4".

I had some luck with some swimbaits this last late summer. I was using a 3.5" or 4" swimbait in a green color (i figured it was natural). I got a firetiger color for a largemouth swimbait, I'm kinda itching for a 3.5-4" in firetiger, but I don't see them around much, feel free to private message me the link to any website that sells them!
I have had some luck with the
GYCB Swimming Senko.

that's EXACTLY what you said on the first page back in September, RW!

Oops!
Guess I should have looked at page 1.
;D ;D ;D
I like to toss bigger swimbaits for smallies. Here are a couple from this fall on the 3:16 Lure Company Freestyle Herring. This bait is 7.25" and 3 ounces! 8-)

Seriously man....You gotta help me get one of those.
Just a reminder of something I mentioned earlier:
When you fish Pickwick, if you throw big
swimbaits, it will be the first time those
fish have EVER seen one.

Does the term "as rare as than hens teeth" mean anything to you? ;D
RW - I'd love to show your pets a big bait sometime! 8-)

I'd be more inclined to throw a float n' fly this time of year ;D 39 degree water hasn't produced many good swimbait bites for me unfortunately :'(
We'll definitely fish sometime in the near future!
