Technically it is the Niagara river but it is Lake Erie water.
Looks like that fish was transposed to that pic. Look at the second pic, the guys left arm does not line up with the left hand. I do believe it is a real fish just not with the rest of that pic
Real or not that is one gorgeous smallmouth. A "monster" smallmouth in the Ozark streams I fish is 3-4lbs and I've only caught 2 over 3lbs but I was estatic. I would probably cry with a smallie like that!

I agree , it sure looks fake.
Gimme a break guys. It's legit. I reported this yesterday.

What a great catch. Thanks for releasing her back to the river.

Good stuff J Francho. I was just about to post the video. It's amazing how everybody thinks everything is fake.
I don't doubt the pic is authentic, but have to admit the hand towards the tail of the fish looks odd. Doesn't seem to match the arm position but nothing more then camera angle.
Some will say the video is faked, LOL.
J,
Like I said, I don't doubt the fish. Great catch for sure! Oh yea, I am jealous.
What you guys all think is some suspicious looking editing is actually called Chromatic Aberration. With the advent of cheap-cheap cameras, with ridiculous 20x zooms, comes sub par glass - err, I mean plastic - lenses. It frequently shows up at high contrast edges. I can try to get a screen cap of it later, or you can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_aberration
Paul Castellano is a well-known guide in these parts, and a class act.
He's also been on several TV fishing shows - Fly Nation, Big City Fishing and so on. No question it was legit -- even before the YouTube post.
I'm jealous I drive by the river every day for work back and forth down river rd. constantly saying I wish I was fishing instead of working been tempted to bring a pole with me. I stoped at niagara outdoors last week for my break lol. That's a gorgous fish
Wowww! Amazing smallmouth! Great pics, great video, thanks for sharing!

I really want to take you to Erie before you take off. I'm headed there this weekend. We'll schedule a day there soon. It's very touch and go weather wise, though. You gotta take those good days when you can, and can't schedule out too far.
great to see a fish like that released

Was about to post something similar.
Paul is well respected guide/pro around here, too much for him to lose by faking something like that.

Just let me know when I'm free till sep 13-18th but tomorrow I think I might be on grandisland for a party but me nor the wife wanna go. I'm gonna have to show the guys at work that fish they all hit the river almost daily but usually for perch.
Thats a nice fish! I thought I caught a nice smallie today at a local river. I'd be lucky if mine weighed half of that one.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow!!! Now that is a smallie.
thanks for sharing.
If I ever catch a Smallie like that I would be ecstatic!

More like wet your pants.
That's one heck of a Trophy Smallie.
What a gorgeous fish - that fishery appears to be healthy !

That lady had no excitement at all. I'm sure since it was her first time fishing for smallmouth, she doesn't have a true appreciation for the enormity of that fish. I know the guide was quite pumped. Congratulations to her and I'm glad she let it go.
That fish is as pretty as they come.
Wow!
