Lake erie water temps off Erie PA are 50 degrees as of 4/27/09. The fish are starting to get active. Here is sixer.
Nice fish!
What a pig! Are you trolling for them?
Nice fish, great pic!
8-)
Spaz,
We usually drift. If we can't locate fish we will troll until we find them. Here is another one.
those fish are ridiculous
I can't help but giggle like a little girl.
Now that's what I call a smallmouth... great fish!
Awesome fish!! Did you get a length on those?
Bigbassguy No I didn't measure any of mine. PK, a Georgia boy got a 6lb-3oz which was his pb & it measured 21.5 long by about 16 girth.
Great pictures , I hope to be heading up soon. We usually pound them in PIB but this year would like to fish more in the big lake. Around what depths were you fishing if you don't mind. Again congrats on some great fish.
DH,
What a Tremendous Fish !
I'm sitting here just shakin' my head . . . . WOW !
A-Jay
Congrats. Nice Fish
Those are amazing fish! I bet they were a fun fight. Congrats
Those fish had W.A.L.L written all over themselves. NICE!
Sage look for rocky bottom in the 10 to 30 foot depths. If you find humps work it over good.
Thanks , like I said before my dad and I have had a lot of 80-100 smallie days in the bay. But they usually top out around 4# or so for us. Would love to get into some 5-6 lbers. Plus with the deeper water and there shoulders you cant beat that.
wow. nice looking fish...great photos showing them off too!
I'm TOTALLY speechless. Wow!
absolutely beautiful fish
Awesome fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just like your pictures last year at around this time of your 7+pounder, this year's pictures are awesome! You are the man Dwight!
Still nailin' them hogs on that hair jig of yours?
Don,
Yea some on hair jigs like this one. ;)
Dude....that's an unreal amount of smallie hogs. I'd like to battle a few of those on light line....
Here is a shorty with great girth & pale tiger stripes.
Are you a guide on lake erie?
No I'm not a professional guide. I moved to Erie PA 17 months ago so I would have plenty of opportunity to fish this area. I'm retired. I bought a new boat 6yrs ago & came up to Presque Isle bay from OH for the first time with a friend. I caught 4 bass over 4lb, one over 5lb & a 6lber my first time here. I realized I had found smallie heaven & decide to move here first chance.
Never ceases to amaze me the size of the fish that come out of that lake.
Congrats, great catches.
Dwight, all I can do is druel I gotta get out on Erie this year as I would rather catch one of these hogs than 25-40 smallies... I am keeping my eye out for more of your threads as I know, more are to come.
Awesome fish!
Here is another sixer. I should have left my hat on!
wow. beautiful fish!
That's a nice piggy!
Very nice, very, very nice
I love the colors and stripes!! Beautiful fish!
Dwight, you ever need a tag-along? ;D
Erie isnt too far for fish like that!!!
Sweet mother of god. Man im super jealous. Erie is definitely calling my name!
crazy nice fish man! extremely jealous! keep it up!
what a fishery....
You must be a quick learner to be doing so well despite only living in the area for a year and a half.
Awesome photos. Those are some great looking smallies!!
jason
great fish!
congrats on the nice fish
That's just stupid!!!!
I've seen Dave Mercer catch tanks like that on his show a fair amount on Erie and Ontario but to see Average Joe makes it that much more impressive. Mercer talks about using a Goby Gulp on a Shaky Football Head or drop shotting with Gulp Alive.
Congrats on your brutes!
CWeb
Are you feeding those fish steroids? Man, those are some nice SM.
Those fish are amazing!! Congrats on some fine smallies. I recently caught the smallmouth bug after being a pretty dedicated largemouth angler for almost ten years. In my opinion they are one of the most amazing freshwater fish you can pursue, beautiful and man what a fight!!
Wow.
I have been waiting to make my 1st post and shall i say DAM, you must be loving life. I keep hearing stories about Erie and the hogs that live in them there waters. If there is one thing to do before I die it has to be fishing for smallies at Erie.
Dwight, I just ran into this old post today...HOLY COW!!
I recently traded down for a smaller boat, and that fish you're holding is roughly the size of my new boat ;D
Jokes aside, I'm getting used to seeing your face behind super trophies!
Roger
Rodger,
Funny you should mention trading down. I just traded up yesterday to a 20 footer from my 18 footer. Better to handle Lake Erie on those non perfect days. Here's a 23" from this spring.
That bronzeback you're hoisting is obscene! :o
Dwight, the best of luck with your new craft...that is terrific!
Roger
Wow. That's pretty amazing.
