What are some things we are doing to survive? Other than home base here, what's your plan?
Hey LBH,
I think you missed a choice in your poll! I have two warm water discharge areas that I like to hit for both smallies and largemouth in the winter! I've caught bass in these areas late in december, into january and even on superbowl sunday! It's really helped me make it through the winter!
I plan on fishing this winter. We get no ice here. So that is no problem. My wife and I just wnet out two weeks ago and bought me some Under Armour long johns and long sleeve shirt, fishing gloves, many types of hats, neck warmer, and waterproof insulated (camo) bibs and matching insulated coat made by Gamehide. I am ready for the big chill. Bring it on!
We have a few Hot water lakes that host 1-2 tournys a week. All of them have have a 25 horse restriction. The guys that fish these tournys are tougher than the folks i fish against in the spring and summer on different circuits. It always takes 20 pounds to win a one day tourny. Our season starts in oct.and ends in march. i am fishing one circuit this winter, and two circuits in the spring.
basser89- good point! I have a major one of those close to my house, you can see me fishing it in the movie "Somthing About Mary".
I'm with Abelfisher-I can fish year round here, too. No closed season and no ice.
shake like a crack addict until ice out
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, let's see I am moving slightly south and west to within a mile and a half of the nearest boat launch on Lake Bull Shoals. I'm making a list and checking it twice. I don't want to forget to list any of the new tackle I want don't yea know. Ahhh the trials and tribulations of living in the Arkansas Ozark Mountains; ain't life grand. Y'all come down some time and give this old southern boy a holler now y'all hear?
Hey Fellas this is how i get through winter Find a girl friend with her own house and snow blower and have a good cup of coffee ready for the both of us when she finshes outside ;D
I'm lucky that I live in an area where you can fish year 'round.I'm planning on bassin' Saturday and Sunday.I've actually caught some big fish during the coldest part of the year.
hey, it's like rr said --- some of the BIGGEST bass of the season are caught in the winter time!
so, what are we going to do this winter? Man, We're Going To FISH! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Justtrying - when I first looked at the picture you have, I thiught it was a Turkey - LoL
Paparock,
You are going to have to buy a river boat. Trout fishing is excellent in the winter, but Bull Shoals is almost impossible. That's not just my opinion, my guide (Hot Dawg) doesn't in the winter.
Rattlinrogue,
Yep, we are lucky. Although this will be my last weekend this year on the river, I'll still get in some hours on my ponds. We'll bundle up and get back with it next month, weather permitting.
I plan on fishing all winter. Thanks to RW. the gortex I bought from Cabelas, is worth it's weight in gold. I went last Friday when the high temps was 34 degrees. I never got cold at all, except the fingers. Actually last Saturday and Sunday were some of the best fishing I've had on my local lake. I love the fall fishing. I guess the true test here will be in January. Brrr! Brrr! :-/
I had to put TWO votes in.... I recently bought a game for the Xbox that I am addicted too... but also I shake like a crack addict till ice out... only way I keep it bearable is by playing that game...
AL
And I was worrying about it warming up enough today to go fishing. It's going to get up to the mid-sixtys today and around 70 tomorrow. MOVE TO FLORIDA! Thanks for the motivation. Be back later.
Being in Chicago I guess just make some money shoveling snow. After that I'll find as many seminars and magazies as I can plus spend alot of time here. Only nice thing about winter is I have college to keep me occupied. But from the choices I'd go with shake.
bassdocktor
Spend 8 - 10 hrs a day getting everyones rods and reels ready for next season......... ;D
Makes the time fly by....
In the past my brothers and I would wait for the Big Boat Show that comes to St. Louis, MO still do look at all the new stuff and see the Pros give seminars. The best seminar I went to was with David Fritz the year he won the classic. what great advice for a dyed in the crankbait fisherman like me. got his autograph the "whole shootin match".
i'll be standin on the ice. or playin video games.
Hitting the Jan. outdoor shows, prefishing for Feb 11. Tourney. 3 Tourney's left this year. I have one the next three weekends.
Most of all, I'm chasing the 13+lber's as much as I can on Fork with swim baits and jigs.
Luckily I can fish year around here in Georgia.
I suppose if I couldn't I would read a lot. Go to seminars etc.
Maybe cast a practice plug around in the snow. ;D
I broke out my ultra lite setup and went trout fishing to try out some new winter gear. It was the first time I went in 2 years. Pulling in a 6" native trout after bass fishing takes a little getting used to, but I plan on bass fishing as much as possible this winter and I found a pike lake nearby I may try out.
I'm will still be fising. No freeze in Georgia. ;D Man I love the south.
well, last week the pond was frozen over, but then thawed out. The fishing has been SLOW, so I think it might be all but over up here...ah well, time to break out the video games...I have one that's an actual "rod and reel" that shakes and vibrates when you catch fish...pretty cool, and it keeps me in shape all year long...lol
shake like a crack addict until ice out
No ice out in VA... ; 8-) Man I feel sorry for you guys up north
hahahah...nanana... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Up here in NH we are limited to fishing in the winter, all you can do is get a 5 gallon bucket and a good strong liquor and jig all day on 65" of ice. I keep my self in check with flipping a jig in the basement. You can make it fun with all the junk you got stored down there. Make a little fishing challenge for yourself. You can actually teach yourself how to flip up and under docks like this. Tried it last winter and I am a better fisherman because fo it. T Minus 150 days until my first tournament.
The Lord Hath Blessed me, for I live in the sunny South where the fishing never ends. I Love It, I Love It, I Love It, I Love It. The Fishing does slow down but it never ends.
Peter ;D
