Under-cover contest winners 2024

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

About a month ago I recieved a PM from Basschasser57. These are friends and members of the board, folks I had the opportunity to meet down in Fork last March. Many of you know Kevin through posting as well.

Kevin and Tera approached me with an idea.

Kevins friend and fishing partner of many years, George Lovins , has passed away. In his passing, he asked that Kevin do what he will with all the fishing gear this gentleman accumulated through the years.

Kevin had asked me to come up with a way to distribute these goodies to some of the youth members on the board and when he asked Mrs. Lovins, she thought it was a fabulous idea, somthing George would have done himself.

So

I made a post in our "youth" forum asking this question...

PERSONALITY QUESTION

What is the one thing you have done in your life that has made you feel the best? (achievement, kind acts, pro-active involvment in a cause, etc)

What's the 1 thing that stands out to you from your memory,...off the top of your head,..shoot

Well we had some great replies and in the end, Kevin and Mrs. Lovins have come up with their choice of winners.

Winners will be recieving a tackle package, contents relevant to placing.

These packs are loaded with good stuff! Kevin sent me lists but they got wiped out with the mailbox limits. If your reply is listed in the 1st thru 3rd place standings, Please PM me with a parents work address or a PO Box address so we can get your prizes out to you. I WILL NOT ship to a personal address as our youth know my feelings about that. Kevin agrees that we lead by example.

Remember, these kids didn't know they were in a contest, they were simply replying to a thread I started in their forum.

;)

Shifty,...I know, hehe

3rd place answer-Bassassasin12

"The one thing I have done that has made me most proud is helping out with my baby brother and making sure he has a good role model to look up too for future years, and also a good fishing partner forever "

-----------------------------------------------------------------

2nd place answer-Senko77

"Mine would absolutly be in 6th-7th grade summer, I volunteered at a nursing home. I would go there once a week for around 3 hours and play card games, get whipped in chess and checkers, and help them out with small projects. I had so much fun and made some great freinds. Most people pass off ederly people as boring, but you wouldnt beleive the stories they tell, and the humor they have. "

--------------------------------------------------------------

1st place answer: Bass89fisher

"in 8th grade i went on a mission trip and watched a few of my close friends get saved and we all helped out this family who was livin in this shack of a house and we got them a trailer and cleaned out a real nice yard for them and there 3 kids. next summer im suppose to go to jamaca and build a church that will probably be my most rewarding thing of all. a 7lber also feels great every once in a while"

LBH-Was that all through a specific church or all seperate stuff?

Bass89fisher-the 8th grade trip was through school(private) and the upcoming one is with a missionary who is a friend of the familey

So let's take a second and thank Kevin, Tera and Mrs Lovins for keeping BR in mind with this generous act of kindness. We are sorry that it came about this way but know in your heart that these kids will take a part of George with them on every trip to the water. His memory will live on in people he never met, myself included. Thank you George, Mrs. Lovins, Kevin, and Tera.

Kids- Mrs. Lovins has been reading along under Kevins name, Basschaser57. This is the account you will use to send your "thank you's" to via PM. Send thank you's to basschaser57's pm account

Youth winners- Also recognize this as a great time to "pay it forward" I always preach this to you guys but generosity is catchy,...like a smile. Share your new wealth with others in need and you won't regret it and I'm sure this would please Mrs. Lovins.

And let's take another second to congatulate these fine kids!

Congratulations to all the winners.  Congratulations to all the young men on this site who did not win, but have performed some selfless act for another.  You guys all should be proud of yourselves.  It's amazing this age of the internet.  I am just turning 40 years old, and can only imagine the benefits I would have reaped as a youngster to have access to this kind of a site. Congrats again guys!

fishing user avatarbassnleo reply :

VERY, VERY COOL IDEA!

Yes Glen, this site continues to get better and better each and every day, quite frankly it's amazing how good it is!

fishing user avatarKeithscatch reply :

Thank you all for puting this on and being a blessing. God bless Mrs Lovins with peace and health. Kevin thank you sir for utilizing this board to distribute things that will bring smiles and many memories to yound people.

LBH, your willingness to facilitate this is a Godsend my friend.

fishing user avatarBassChaser57 reply :

Thanks to the youth for having such caring and energy. With so much bad news these days it is VERY refreshing to see young people giving of their time and talents to make the world a little bit better for others.

I had a wonderful friend in George Lovins who got me hooked (pun intended) on fishing so when I recieved LOTS of tackle after his passing I did not know what to do with all of it so the contest came to mind. This is a wonderful tribute to George and I have been the biggest winner for being able to do this in remembering George. His passing has been a huge loss to many!!!

I met Russ(Low Budget Hookers) at Lake Fork last spring and was very impressed with him so that is why I asked for his help. He came up with the idea of a secret contest so we did not get lots of bogus answers and it worked GREAT!!! ATTABOY RUSS!!!

As I recall the first place will get about 20+ pkgs of mostly name brand plastics, 2nd is about 15, and the third is about 10pkgs. Hopefully these will be put to good use and we will see lots of photos of monster bass and hear all about the stories.

Keep smiling and keep casting for better things.

Kevin & Tera Barks (BassChaser57)

Mrs. Linda Lovins

8-)

fishing user avatarMatt Jungblut reply :

great work guys

fishing user avataralhuff reply :

to the winners, Congrats!!!

to Kevin and Mrs. Lovins, thanks.

Alfred

fishing user avatarx-trued reply :

Congrats to the kids and hats off to Kevin and Mrs. Lovins.

I have an idea:  How about posting a photo of george so we can all remember him a little more tangibly.  If I were one of the kids who won some of his tackle I would want to print the photo and keep it in the top of my tackle box.  I would pull it out and thank George each time I caught a fish on his takle.  Plus, It would be like taking george fishing.

fishing user avatarZebco202 reply :

This is why I love this site.

LBH- You da' man!!!

When you see the generocity of guys like LBH, BassChaser57 and Alpster (in another thread) you realize what a great group of people that we have here.

I hope you guys that won, catch a record breaker on your new plastics.  Congrats!

fishing user avatarbass89fisher reply :

The day i filled out my post i was not expecting a prize out of it, all i was doin was reading threads and posting the first thing that came to mind. however, this thread seamed more deep and spiritual. i gave this thread tought and typed my first thought that came to mind. Mrs. Linda Lovins i can not thank you enough for the love that has been displayed through this secret contest. i will try to use your husban's lures to the best of my ability and hopefuly catch the fish of a lifetime. thanks again.

                Alex

fishing user avatarpapadew reply :

As the late country comedian and Christian speaker once said, "98% of our young people are good, but you only seem to hear about the 2% that are bad."  Good to hear of some of the good 98% for a change! Amen?...

fishing user avatarpapadew reply :

Excuse me, had a senior moment. I was quoting none other than the "mouth of the Mississippi", Jerry Clower.  my mistake....Papadew...(need his meds). LOL
