Caught A Fishing Rod 2024

fishing user avatarBassin30721 reply :

Went fishing today didn't catch any fish but that's winter fishing. But I did catch a rod and reel with a r-trap and rapala minnow.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Was it anything worth saving? I've caught a few rods, but never any worth saving. My dad actually caught 3 rods at once while we were trolling for walleye once, a Zebco 33, Zebco 202, and a cheap Quantum baitcaster on a Shimano Bullwhip rod. I'm guessing someone dropped all their catfish rods in the water since the lake we were on was a popular catfishing lake. He snagged one line and pulled up a ton of line before the first rod. There was a line tangled around that and after a bunch more pulling he got the second rod. Then he did it one more time and had a giant pile of line and 3 combos in the boat. None had been in the water long, I fished with the baitcasting combo for several years after that.

fishing user avatarBassin30721 reply :

Rod and reel wasn't wroth saveing but the r- trap and rapala minnow was all

I had to do is put new hooks on them

fishing user avatarHi Salenity reply :

The best I ever got was a Coleman lantern.

It's Propane and works great!

fishing user avatarwisconsin heat reply :

Ive caught single pieces of 2-piece rods but never a whole thing. I did however find a panfish combo in a bush near shore once a 5' cherrywood and an old shimano.

At least the lures were Savable in your case!!

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

I hooked an 8 lb. anchor one time.  Brought it up with the lure knocker.

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

I've caught one combo - a spinning rod/reel.  Cheap gear - not worth saving  (for me).  I propped it in some rocks with the rod tip pointing up - couple hours later it was gone..................

fishing user avatargeo g reply :

I once caught a shimano combo along 41 just past the Indian Reservation. While fishing with my partner at the airport hole of Lake Okeechobee he kicked a Team Diawa rod and reel over the side. $300 back in the 80's. He was just sick.

fishing user avatarWIGuide reply :

I haven't caught a rod but I did catch an old baitcaster a few years ago. Unfortunately it was rusted out that it wasn't worth saving for the shelf. My dad has caught two though. One was mine after I dropped it in as a very little kid, and the other was his own that got pulled out of the boat by a fish when he set it down to net one for me.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

This past fall I caught me a Zebco rod & Reel ~

It was pretty dilapidated and caked with muck & mire, (and I'm not exactly sure what that actually means)

fishing user avatarFishing Rhino reply :

I've caught three rods and reels, one good enough to give to a kid in the neighborhood.

In my lobstering days, I caught more gear than I could ever use.

In late summer and early fall we had our gear set on the rocky edge of Coxes ledge.  It was also a popular place for the party boats from Montauk, NY, and Point Judith, RI.  In a few weeks, we'd fill a five gallon bucket with lead sinkers and the big chrome jigs and spoons that are typical for "bottom jerking".

Our trawls were about a half mile long, and with thirty of them set on the ocean floor, they'd grab everything that crossed their path.  The ground line was floating poly so it floated above the bottom between the traps.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

Y'all make it sound easy... my papa backlashed and lost his grip on a good baitcasting combo and sent it to the bottom of the lake, we tried fishing for it for a long time and finally gave up lol

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

I have found a combo in some bushes, but decided not to take it because it was a small pond, and I'm guessing someone stored their stuff their (stupid idea). I've also caught a broken fishing rod with no reel attached. Maybe one of these days I'll score with a G. Loomis NRX and a Shimano Cronarch from the bottom of the pond. (new condition, of course.)

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

brings to memory a BRAND NEW casting combo that i lost on lake oconee....  i fished and fished and fished for it forever in just 15-20 feet of water and couldn't come up with anything....

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

A trap and a rapala on the same line? Whoever the original owner was must have been using the rat-l-trap as a drop shot...

fishing user avatarThornback reply :

Once I placed my rod/reel on the deck as I was doing something. Yep, it went overboard. I think it snagged on the bottom as the wind moved the boat. So I used another rod/reel and tied on a large treble hook. I hooked the lost rod/reel about the fifth cast and brought it back to the boat. Bad luck and then good luck.

fishing user avatarFunkJishing reply :

I've never reeled in a rod but i remember fishing and beginning to retrieve my bait and feeling like i snagged something, wasn't a little fish but my lure felt a little heavier than ushual....reeled it in and had a big freshwater clam on my treble hook! that clam is now living happily in my fish tank with the baby smallmouth i caught on a crankbait just as big as it lol.

fishing user avatarBass_Fanatic reply :

I recently caught a Berkeley lightning rod with a Abu Garcia c4 reel on it. Works good and not in bad shape at all. I've been meaning to give it to a kid or something.

I've never caught a fishing rod but my dad caught an old fly rod and reel one time. It's pretty nice he has it in his sports room now.

fishing user avatarTC235 <*))))>< reply :

Although didn't involve me catching with a rod and reel still found this to be entertaining.

My buddy and i were fishing at are local hole in a canoe. I borrowed my father's rod and reel and sometime into the trip i decided to jury rig a spot for my father's combo. Needless to say it didn't work.. Heard a splash, looked behind and theres the combo sinking with a spook attached.. Spent about a hour trying to find it.. Failed.

Several months later im out again with my same friend and we see somthing bobbing in the water close to the spot where the rod drowned. It's the black spook! After lots of tangled line and ripping threw weeds the combo was found completely coverd in weeds and slime... wasen't in good shape lol. Spook was fine just needed some new trebles. Many people fished the lake and was standing out like a sore thumb. Very strange how i stumbled arcoss it after months and months.

How cold is it in GA? It's warm @ 40 degrees here in MA...  I always thought that rods & reels moved all year round.

The only rod/reel I've ever caught was my own after I accidentally dropped it off the side of my kayak.  It was a Core on a Veritas.  Luckily the line drew across my lap and I was able to grab it.  The pond was crystal clear.  Watching it sink slowly away was rough....

As a kid, I was fishing for catfish using a clam for bait (shell removed obviously). I caught a bigger clam...
