Time spent...... 2024

fishing user avatarMottel reply :

I used to go fishing every day and it was a blast. But now I’ve run into a tight schedule and I usually only go fishing once a week. How many of you manage to fish more than that? How often do you get to go fishing?

fishing user avatarLionHeart reply :

Once a week for 4-5 hours.  On long weekend's I occasionally go twice and some weekend's not at all, but then again I'm married with 2 kids so I figure that ain't too bad.  Going early in the morning helps.  I usually try to be casting just before sun up and home by lunch.

Same, but I go early AM by myself, then in the late afternoon with the kids when possible.

Some day.  My girls are 3 years old, and 10 months old.

fishing user avatarBrew City Bass reply :

I fish 5-7 days a week. Usually 5 though.

I allow myself to do this by working third shift as a home healthcare caregiver. I work 4 nights a week, 10 hours a night. Off 4 days, 3 nights. Luckily, my job allows me to take a few hour nap at work.

On Sunday - Thursday I get off work at 7:30am and have the boat loaded and on the road by 8am. Usually on the lake by 8:30am then fish til about 1-2pm then head home for a nap before work.

Come Thursday I become a creature of the night and go nocturnal. I'll get on the lake around 10pm and head home whenever the bite turns off, which is usually around 3-4am. Rinse and repeat til Sunday, then I go back to daytime fishing.

It's not a glamorous job, it pays the bills, but most importantly it allows me to fish 24/7. Yeah, I am usually dog tired but my work doesn't need me to be 100% and on top of my game so I don't mind being tired if it means I get to fish. Come winter is when I recover.

fishing user avatarBeetlebz reply :

Aye I work nights too. 6p to 6a Friday through Tuesday. Sunday Monday and Tuesday nights are sleep shifts so I try to get out Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday in the morning.

fishing user avatarRuss E reply :

I retired at 53 years old to take care of my disabled wife. she needs 24 hour care.

when I was working she had a caregiver in the home for 70-80 hours a week.

before I retired I was lucky to fish twice a month.

since I retired we are both healthier and have a lot more fun.

I fish. She loves the casino.

I now have a caregiver come 3 days a week, so I can fish and she gets a break from me.

I now fish roughly 20 hours a week

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I fish 2 days a week at least, but I'll make a few cast after work in the morning 1 or 2 days a week also. One of the benefits of working nights.

fishing user avatarBass_Fishing_Socal reply :

Yes night shift here too so I can fish almost every morning but only hour or twos. Sunday normally I spent time with my wife all day but every now and then I'll get up very early and sneak out.

To fish I presume.

fishing user avatarMike L reply :

Almost every day.

One of the benefits of living full time in a motor home is we can stop where we want, as long as we want which usually has a lake or river nearby.

I used to say "life is just those inconsequential things that happen between fishing trips"

Now I get out as often as I can. I have a couple of places where I can catch a few only a couple of miles away, so I can get a fix when I need it most days.

fishing user avatarfishwizzard reply :

I usually get out about 2-4 times a week, depending on my work.  I travel a lot for it so there are 2-3 week runs where I never even see water, but then an equal amount of time when I'm not working and can go every day.

My main issue is believing the weather reports, it was supposed to rain today so I scheduled a few phone meeting for this morning.  So of course is overcast and cool with no sign of rain.  2 more meetings and I can hit the pond!

fishing user avatarohboyitsrobby reply :

I fish 3-4 days a week. The amount of time spent on a trip varies. But I usually get 1 good 5-6 hour trip and the rest an hour or so. I'm lucky to work within shouting distance of a boat ramp and live 150 from a small river. At least once a week I get the boy and we go out and do a lil fishing and a lil swimming.

Being a teacher i get out usually once a week during the school year and in the summer i get out 2 times a week generally.  My 8 year old son goes to daycare 2 days a week and hasn't really gotten into fishing too much yet so we usually spend the days doing other things.  On his daycare days i drop him off and then hook up the kayak trailer and head out as soon as i get home.  I am then off the water in time to get him around 4:30-5:00 and still cook dinner before the wife and my daughter, 2 years old and goes to daycare still, get home around 5:45.

I do try and get out at night but i haven't been able to this year with all the rain and thunderstorms we've been having.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

A normal trip for me is once a week for about 5 or 6 hours.  Usually on the weekends.  I'll get out 2 or 3 times a week if I have a long holiday weekend, or if I can get a day or two off from work.

fishing user avatarGlaucus reply :

I work 6 days a week and have a wife and 4 kids. I get out for 4 hours every Sunday morning. Sometimes another 4 hours Sunday evening if I'm lucky.

I'm going away for work for 8 days tomorrow, though, and it's gonna be near a smallie paradise so I'll be out all 8 days. Hope I remember to call home!

fishing user avatarKsam1234 reply :

I work second shift so I fish a lot in the mornings and get home by lunch. Usually try to get out between 3-5 times a week.

fishing user avatarKoz reply :

How much I fish depends upon the weather. This time of year it's ridiculously humid out so even after 6 pm the heat index is close to 100. We also usually have popup thunderstorms just about every afternoon or evening. For the past two weeks the culprit has been torrential rain.

That being said, if weather permits I'll get out 2-5 times per week depending upon work and my son's baseball schedule. Each outing is between 1 and 3 hours.

I did manage to get out tonight after the downpour and before the next round of thunderstorms. I fished for about 45 minutes before my lightning warning went off. But the good news was I managed to land a 5 pounder in that time (OK, it was 4.98 but this one was worth rounding up).

It was nice to catch a decent fish for a change. Fishing has been S-L-O-W for the past month and I had not caught anything over 3.5 in that time. I just might have to head back out tomorrow evening...

I work during the week 8 to 5. I try to fish daylight to noon one day on the weekend. My honey do list takes care of the rest of day and church on most Sundays. I used to try and fish a couple of hours in the evening before dark after work. But now we get consent torrential down pours from the rain every evening now. Lucky I own a boat:Bass_Boat:

fishing user avatardiversity210 reply :

I manage to get a good 5 or 6 hour day of fishing in once a week.  During the spring I will get in a good 2 days a week of fishing.  I dont really fish in the winter.  Im just to impatient for lethargic bass.

Ever hear that song by Brad Paisley "Im Gonna Miss Her".  You people that fish every day remind me of that song haha.  I dont know how some of you manage to fish every day.  You must not have kids and are not married.  I run a small business from home building cabinets and other furniture pieces for people. I dont really have a set schedule, but  I get out of it, what I put in to it.  So even though I love to fish you wont find me on the water every day.  Usually Ill spend about 6 hours in my shop and another couple hours returning phone calls from customers and designing new builds in sketchup.  Besides that I am married to a beautiful woman that I have been with for 15 years and have been married to for 7 of those years and I prefer to keep happy.  Heck she is the one that worked and saved the extra 15k I needed to buy my new boat for my birthday last May.

fishing user avatarSlappinKraken reply :

I have two kids under 2yrs old so my time is spent with them most of the time. I do have summers off as a teacher, so I go about 3 times a month June through August. I feel guilty trying to go any more considering my wife works full time and I don't want to leave her without help on her days off. We don't use day care so during the school year I don't go much.

Once the kids are older we'll do a lot of kayaking, camping, etc so I'm sure I'll sneak in extra fishing time.

fishing user avatarSquarebill79 reply :

I normally get out 5 days a week on average. My work schedule allows that I can go in the morning for a couple hours and then in the evenings.

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

I use   to get out once a week  on the boat then  when I was in my 20's  and had good balance I use to stop along culverts and irrigation ditches several times a week . I had a milk run and caught bunches of big bass . This year  I fished twice in April , missed May and June completely then managed three time in July, two of those were at night . I plan on going more this   fall and  spend a week at Table Rock in September.  When I do go its usually 8 to 10 hours .

fishing user avatarNHBull reply :

Life is a choice and sometimes I chose to give up sleep to spend time on the water..it's just that simple

fishing user avatarApacheGuns515 reply :

My work schedule is hectic and nowhere near the standard 9 to 5 but luckily for me I live on a river and there's a boat launch about 2 mins away from my house. I also have a kayak so I can be sitting on my couch then get up and load the kayak in my truck bed and be out on the water in about 10 mins.

So I have the time to go fishing virtually whenever I want but I usually go 3 or 4 times per week.

The double edged sword with that is the fact that it's so easy for me to go that I tend to become quite impatient very fast. In years past before I had such easy access to fishing I would make a day of it. Get up early, pack a lunch, stay out all day, etc. Now I toss the kayak in the truck and head out and if the fish aren't biting as often as I like then I just say screw it and go home lol.

Before even if the fish weren't biting I'd stay out there because I did all the work to get up and pack the food and make the long drive, etc. Now it's no longer a "fishing trip" but rather me just going basically across the street so my brain sort of takes advantage of that and if I'm not catching anything in a timely manner my brain quickly says "Just go home and have a beer or two, it's not like you can't come back tomorrow, you live right there...."
