I'm well done, with this friggin weather. I'm tired of flipping a hookless jig into a 3ft. snow drift just so I can feel a rod and reel in my hands. I'm packing up some gear and heading south in search of open water. Now the only question is; How far? A full tank of gas will get me about 350mi. and I can afford three tankfulls depending on what the gas mongers are currently ripping us off for. Dang, this could get expensive.....Maybe I'll just tie a line to the cat's tail for a quick fix, or I could actually use a jig with a hook and really get a fight out of her. Never mind PETA, I'm just kidding, for now anyway.
Where do you live?
Braidwood opens tomorrow
Pick me up while your at it... We can split gas and gain our sanity back. The father South the better
Table Rock Party this weekend. If yous guys see a gunmetal over red Triton 21HP between Longs and Kimberling, say hello.

Isn't there some power plant lake somewhere in central Ill? It'd probably be fairly busy but hey, it beats a snowbank. I got excited yesterday when I was casting in the yard and i hooked a broken branch on the ground! lol
papajoe, there are some folks I know fishing Newton Lake in IL for some tournament, so I'm living vicariously through them. I agree with the sentiment, I'm done with this crap weather too.
I threw some old running shoes in the living room, pitched a jig to 'em, set the hook, and released them alive after a very short fight. Kept me busy for about 6 minutes.
Well we're about to have another round, and it looks to be one of the worst yet.

Clinton has ice until the main bridge but the hot arm opens up in a month. Buddy gets his new stratos tomorrow. Cant wait to fish.
They are biting real slow down here in Texas.... tomorrow its going to be in the 70's but wednesday it was 28- not to rub your nose in anything- 630 am I'll be throwing everything I have in my tackle box till I find whats working. I hope you can find some open water soon!
i usually tie a line to a cat toy stand up on the couch and start pitching to whatever he is hiding under.
I have a problem
You could go to your nearest BPS and go fishing in their big aquarium. They always have giant deformed looking bass in them. I figure you can get 2-3 casts in before you're asked to leave...but I'm in the same boat as you (no pun intended). I've considered driving down south for a weekend just to get my fishing fix because I can't take this anymore. It's hard to take a 5 month break from something I'm so obsessed with such as bass fishing. The only issue I have with the south is their giant spiders. I'll take a few frozen months over a brown recloose crawling on me in my sleep any day.
Hey Joe. I can meet you some place in Il if you want. Rend lake has thawed. Coffeen is a power plant lake. We'd have to use my trolling motor though. Hp limit. Gie me a call if you want. I am ready. Around the 15th I'm headed for Gunnersville.

More ice and snow heading our way tonight sometime. Next week more cold weather. Whatever happened to global warming?

Same for us Rooster. Of course, you and I are in the same region.

Seems I remember all these same conversations about this time last year.

Remember the movie "Day After Tomorrow"? Global warming can actually cause cold weather.
I also remember "'the Wizard of Oz" but don't think we'll walking the yellow brick road any time soon. However, after setting a record 49 days below zero here in Green Bay this winter, I'm heading to Guntersville for two weeks on Wed. I don't care if it's only 50 down there, the water is soft and I'm going fishin.
I,would love warm bass,fishing weather

Im pretty sure there is more proof that aliens have caused this cold weather than global warming.

Unless you have pictures, it didn't happen.
I'll tell you one thing after the winter we've been having, you won't see me complaining about the heat this summer. Right now I'll take anything above freezing!!!

Yeah its pretty sad when I think 35 degrees is warm..
Not to rub it in or anything, but the good thing for me is that I will be going to Florida in a couple of weeks. We will be staying with a friend of mine that lives in Satelite beach... on the bay... with a boat. It won't be bass fishing, but i'll take it... I'll send you a post card.
You'll probaply want to me... I'll be on my way now
its suppose to be 40 here on friday. think im going to try and get out on the river where the water is melted. Ill half to go from the bank but anything will do for now.
I might be doing the same thing.
Thats why I moved to south Florida 40 years ago. Enough of that white crap. The worst was slush when that stuff started to melt. Was living in Northeast Ohio, I have not regretted the move for a second.
Ladies and gents, that's why I'm loving east tennessee. No matter how cold it gets, I'll always find fish.
It would be a pretty far drive for you but newton is a really good lake. I haven't been there in the winter I think the fishing can be a little tough but some of the biggest bass are caught there this time of year.
. Don't you just love the black slush in north east Ohio after a good snow. Or when you can't see 3 yards in front of you.On 3/7/2014 at 11:23 PM, geo g said:Thats why I moved to south Florida 40 years ago. Enough of that white crap.
