How do you prefer to fish? 2024

Now by this question I do not mean what technique do you enjoy using, but I would like to know how our members pursue their dream bass. Do you like a Bass boat with all the tricks or are you happy with an inner tube floating down a small river. Do you take your fishing to the max with all the toys and fandangles or are you the kind of angler that takes only what they need and says Keep It Simple Stupid. Personally I want to always find that new place to fish where I feel like i am the first person to ever touch the place. I Prefer to wade or take a jon boat. It is quiter and for me more enjoyable. So how about ya'll?

I like to be floating in something boat/kayak/canoe. I do not fish from the bank much.

I prefer a bass boat. Get from point a to B alot quicker, more space to walk around, more storage for all the baits.

I have a fishing boat but it's not a bass boat. It's a center console bay boat designed for salt or fresh water. Everything on the boat and trailer is designed and built to withstand salt water so I won't have the corrosion issues common with older bass boats. Certain features I love but I also have a couple small tradeoffs. The longest rods I can carry securely (without propping one end up on the seat or front deck) is 6'6". It also drafts a bit deeper than most bass boats but I'll gain some clearance once I install a jackplate. Other than that I'm much happier with this boat than a bass boat.

I have a canoe and its great for fishing in tight spots that regular boats can't get to. Plus, you can launch it anywhere. Yesterday afternoon, I took the canoe out on the lake and the wind was blowing about 15 to 20 mph. Try paddling against the wind. That's when having a canoe stinks! I'd much rather fish from a bass boat, or any motorized boat because you can cover more water and you don't have to dislocate your shoulders trying to paddle back to shore against to wind.

Submarine - it's easier to see the fish.

Bassboat - my legs get sore if I can't stretch out once in a while.

Another thing to take into consideration is how other boaters perceive you. Back when I had a jon boat with trolling motor, the ski boats and jet skis would ignore me and blast right by me. Many of them seemed to get a kick out of being able to toss me about with their wake. Now that I have a bigger boat and can laugh at most boat wakes, many of the skiers seem to give me a bit more respect. Especially the kids, They give me that look like I'm gonna tell their parents on them.

Living and fishing in the country on isolated lakes is no longer an option for most of us. Boat traffic is a big consideration and it's only going to get heavier. I prefer my pickup truck to a little econobox when on the highway and I prefer a decent size boat to a jon boat when on the water. It's all about who is higher on the food chain.

Probably 90% of the waters I fish don't even allow gas engines. I'd love to have a nice bass boat, but it seems like such a waste seeing the guys/gals using trolling motors only in them. I use a lil Jon boat with transom mount trolling motor and my only complaint is the cramped quarters. I still do a lot of bank fishing in the local waters when I just want a quick trip without all the hassles.

However, my son is in his last year of college and just last night I told him we should buy a nice bass rig after he gets his high paying job after school

It's a tough choice between a jon boat and a bass boat. I voted jon because it can go so many places a bass boat can't and it's faster (obviouslly) than a kyayk/cannoe. but because of lack of funds i use a kyayk. but i am saving up for a jon boat with a 50-75 horse motor.

Perfer a bass boat. I don't own one but I do have a few buddies who do. I'll fish from the shore if I have to and in the spring I don't mind it, but come summer when the fish are deeper I'd rather be in a boat.

I have to admit that a bass boat or especailly a bay boat has its appeal but I would love to have a kayak so as I go from here to there all I have to do is just strap it to the top of my SUV. I never have to worry about a gas bill or paying a mechanic with my jon boat and I can take a couple freinds (i prefer 1 and that they be left handed ). But I really just love to get at them anyway possible. Does anybody use a salt water Kayak? Trying to see what kind I should look at. Anyway thanks for the replies ya'll.

I'd say out of all the ways 80% would be bank fishing (Don't have a boat), 15% wading (usually in streams for smallmouth and bass, and usually without waders, with swimming trunks in the summer), and 5% canoeing (I've only done this once or twice.) Out of all of these, I think that the most fun is wading in the summer when it's hot; you get to fish and cool off.

Considering I have never fished from a bass boat, jon boat, canoe, or kayak, my only other two options are from the bank and from a personal pontoon boat. Of those two the boat is by far my favorite, but I don't mind fishing the bank either.

I love my kayak. Love it. Love it. Love it. Love it. Yes there are some disadvantages to a bass boat. Some major. But the advantages....oohh the advantages. Nothing like the rush of hooking a big fish then going on a little spin as she tows you around the pond. 8-)

If I had my druthers and it worked for every situation I would prefer a bassboat. However, we all know some ponds, rivers, and small lakes are better fished from numerous other options such as jon boats, canoes, kayaks, or float tubes. Whatever allows me to fish the area in the most productive manner is what I want to use.

Troutfisher91, it is great to hear that someone else like to fish creeks and streams by wading them. It is my favorite way to fish. The fish fight harder that way than any other!
