Beaver Style Baits? 2025

Do any of ya'll have a lot of success with these things? I've tried flipping a beaver and didn't catch anything so quickly switched to a go to when my buddy was catching them. I know they are generally good for punching and fishing grass, but flipping bushes and willows is a huge make up of my fishing.

I pitch and flip beavers more than I do craws in areas with anything that resembles grass and/or wood/brushpiles, etc. I'm a big fan of reaction innovations beavers in both smallie and standard as well as missle baits Dbombs.

Beaver baits are my #1 bait to pitch. I catch a ton of fish on them every year and I have a lot of confidence in them.

Those are some of the best places to use them. They don't have any appendages to wrap around branches, grass etc.

I'm another that uses the R.I. sweet and smallie beaver in bushes, stick-ups, grass, almost any type of structure. Like jrob, I have a ton of confidence in those baits.

Agree...
It seem like the Sweet Beaver is the only type of flipping bait in heavy cover that I've been useing.
I don't even bring any other type with me now.

Well I a big fan of missile baits other baits so I picked several different colors of the d bomb to give a try since they are so highly touted among others. Hopefully they'll catchem real well.

dont forget about the havoc pitboss, cheap and they work too.
Thing I love about a beaver is its like chuckn a jig into a mess without the worry of losing so much. Even though I tie my own jigs it still hurts to break one off, were still talkn $2-$3 bustn a jig off.

my buddy throws one a lot, I don't have much confidence in them. I have had my good days on them though, I just more confidence in a rage craw. If I had to pick 1, itd be a missile baits D Bomb

I don't do a ton of wood flipping, 99% of mine is grass so beavers work very well. My favorite by far is the D-Bomb, second I'll go with RI Sweet Beavers (regular and small). I feel like I'd lean more toward a bait with some action if I were primarily flipping wood. Say a Paca Craw or Brush Hog type lure. I'm sure there are boat loads of guys out there that can really catch'em on beaver baits around wood but I'd have to have one really solid day of success doing it on a beaver before I'd go all in with this style of bait around wood.
As RyneB said, having the lure that you personally have the most confidence in rigged on the end of your line is a pretty important part of fishing well. About the only way I know of to get confident in a lure is to fish the hell out of it until you start catching fish on it. I also understand that this is easier said than done.

I like the Zoom Z Hog. It's a very soft bait but will last for a number of hook ups. Very good in grass and punching pads.

My go to flipping and pitching bait as well. Anywhere I can fit the thing is where I plan on putting it. Catches me fish all year, and catches nice fish at that.

I trie the regular size reaction innovation beavers an wouldn't fish them long enough to give them a fair chance. Then I tried the Smallie beaver and caught a bunch of fish on them so that gave me the confidence to use the bigger bait. I still pitch the Smallie beaver or zoom ultravibe speed craw 99% of the time unless I'm trying to get a big bite. Had a day last year they wouldn't hit either one and I rigged up my original flipping bait that got me started a 6 inch lizard and smoked them only day I use the lizard last year too. Don't know why I'll quit on a certain bait

I have use the rodent and baby rodents (Strike King). Have had marginal success with both but nothing to brag about. I have more success with their Game Hawg or Zoom Brush Hogs.

All the Beaver style baits will work. Just to keep things simple I use the Sweet Beaver and the Biffle Bug.

I fish Grand Lake all the time. The lake has a bunch of willows to pitch and flip. I use beaver style baits. The Missile D-bomb what I use most of the time. They also have a baby D-bomb that is a bit smaller. If you really want a craw imitation that goes thru them and give the fish a look that I doubt many of the fish have seen, go with a Missile fuse craw. I use those when the bite is tough. Any Dick's sporting goods has the Missile line.

I got my personal best on a reaction innovations beaver pitching it right under a dock. My favorite color is the bloody Mary. They are also pretty durable I can use one bait for 5-6 fish

I love flipping the Missile Baits D-Bombs. No one was talking about these much last year, but I glad they are finally getting the credit they deserve. I've never had much luck using any other brand of beaver baits, but that may be because I haven't used many other brands.

For beaver style baits is the SK rodent, and the pitt boss that get used the most in my boat. Beaver baits are great especially when the fish are finicky, the subtle action is great for pressured waters...

I use the smallie beaver on the back of a jig and it is awesome but if they aren't taking the jig I'll often switch over to a sweet beaver T-rigged with a 1/4oz bullet weight and that usually gets bit, keep using it, you'll catch fish don't worry.

I like SK River Bugs as jig trailers. The same bait is available through Big Bite Baits as the YoMama. What I like about them is that they are a cross between a paca chunk/craw papi and a beaver. The tail is larger and has a lot more action it it than your average beaver bait but this comes at the cost of reduced body size.

A smallie beaver style bait has been my #1 pitchin bait for the last two years. I use the RI and discontinued Case sweet peas but bought some Netbait ones to try.
Today I am getting tackle ready and in my go-to spares tub I counted 76 packs of these baits. This does not count the ones that are already in the boat bag just the backup spares. As you can see by the quantity I use these baits all the time and they work everywhere. For some reason the smaller baits have caught more and bigger fish so I rarely use the regular size ones.

My favorite is the Missile Baits D Bomb. Other good ones are the Berkley Havoc Pit Boss and the Reaction Innovations Sweet Beavers.

On occasion I'll use an Ugly Otter.
I tend to use the Rodents the most though. Love those things, especially the smaller version. I use them t-rigged or as jig trailers. Can't go wrong with a beaver style bait.
