Questions about Camp Chef PG24MZG SmokePro Slide Smoker with Fold Down Front Shelf Wood Pellet Grill, Pack of 1, Black & Traeger PEL319 Hickory 100% All-Natural Hardwood Grill Pellets
Q:
What is the grill grate made of on this model?
Answer: The Camp Chef website says enamel on the main grates and nickel plated top grates.
Answer: Top is nickel plate. Not sure about bottom but doesn’t stick and easy to clean.
Answer: I do not own a Camp Chef.
Answer: Teflon coated steel.
Answer: Top looks to be stainless
Answer: I think it is enamel.
Q:
What's the difference between this and the dlx model?? is it essentially the same with just a couple added features??
Answer: The only difference I could find is the "Smoke & Grill" option on the PG24MZG. You can see a Comparison Chart. Go to the link below, choose the DLX then scroll down to the chart link. The PG24MZG is too new to be on the chart but it will compare the other models.
Answer: I believe the main differences are that this model has the front shelf and it also has the direct grilling option (pull a lever to expose the flame directly).
Answer: It also says this one has 811 sq inches vs the DLX 570
Answer: What is the cubic inches of this model, height between bottom shelf to the inside top. thanks
Answer: Camp Chef said that the MZG has a smaller hopper and different legs
Answer: Yes. My unit has all features I am capable of using.
Q:
Can I put the sear box on this Grill?
Answer: Yes. It just replaces the side shelf. Comes with hardware to easily attach.
Q:
Camp chef says it is "convection style cooking". does that mean it has a fan to circulate the hot air?
Answer: The fan blows through the fire box. But it does force air all through the grill.
Q:
Does this grill have WiFi ?
Answer: Mine is a year or two old. It doesn't have WiFi but the newest model does I believe. I just use a stand alone thermometer. It sends temp to my phone. Works great.
Answer: No the grill does not have Wi-Fi but it sure is it really nice grill
Answer: No WiFi on this model
Answer: No
Answer: No
Answer: No it doesn’t.
Answer: No
Answer: No
Answer: Nope
Q:
What is the difference between the sg and pg models? also difference between the pg24 vs dlx? thanks
Q:
Was wondering if the base can be removed so I can install as a built in grill for my outdoor kitchen?
Answer: You have to install the legs, and side tray. The pellet feeder on the side may be an issue to build it in though. You need access to the front for the controller.
Answer: The legs have to be installed after unboxing, so I suppose you could just leave them off as long as it's attached to something securely.
Answer: The legs can simply not be attached when you assemble the smoker. But if I have to explain that much to you I don’t think you need to being a project of the caliber you are talking about. If you can’t figure out “don’t bolt on the legs” you probably shouldn’t be taking on DIY projects.
Q:
Is this made in china? if yes, which grill is made in usa?
Answer: Yes it is made in china like most popular grills. Yoder is made in the USA
Answer: According to their website:
Answer: Don’t think so, says it is made in USA, Was shipped from Utah.
Answer: No, in the usa
Q:
What is the temperature range for this grill/smoker? (Min/Max)
Answer: 175-400
Q:
Can you use it to just make a couple great hamburgers for a dinner for 2
Answer: You certainly can. I crank it up to 450 with the searing knob pulled to the open position or smoke them at 225 if you want a different flavor.
Answer: It does have sear potential. There is an outside pull knob that pulls the heat reflector away from the pellet burn cup so all the heat goes straight up instead of out and around. I haven’t used this feature yet, but a few burgers, yes! A grill full, probably not without shifting them around a lot.
Answer: I have several times
Answer: Yep.
Q:
Are the grates dishwasher safe?
Answer: Yes, You could, but I would not recommend practice
Q:
What is the difference between this model and pg24sg
Answer: The MZG comes with a front fold down shelf
Q:
Can you use any brand of pellets? Or is there a Camp Chef brand that you must use?
Answer: ! You can use any brand of pellets. Of course some pillows are better than others. I have used Traeger, camp chef and a few others. They all work just fine. smoker is unbelievable by the way, top notch.
Answer: Any pellets work. I bought some Camp Chef when I ordered my grill, but since then, I've been using Treager pellets that I pick up at Home Depot and they work just fine.
Answer: Any high quality pellets will work. I tried Kingsford and had lits of smoke though the hopper. Keep to only wood. No fillers especially corn products as they cause issues.
Answer: You can use any brand, but the better brands tend to clog less. We’re using Pit Boss ones now bc it’s all we could find. Haven’t had any problems.
Q:
Can you set the grill to automatically shut off once the desired internal temperature of food is reached according to the meat probe?
Answer: No, it is only for checking the internal temp of the food.
Answer: Nope. You have to turn the knob to Shutdown manually. The cooker will shut off completely, even if the switch is in the on position, once the shutdown process is complete.
Answer: Not to my knowledge, there is a shutdown procedure when you shut it off.
Answer: Not that I know of.
Answer: No
Answer: No
Q:
What is the maximum temperature?
Answer: Up to 500 degrees
Q:
Is the warming rack usable for cooking? I see alot of videos where people say its too close to the top of the grill.
Answer: Yes you can cook on the top rack. It's probably about 6 in. from the top so it's close, but you can fit ribs, chicken, or other smaller cuts on it.
Answer: Yes the warming rack are very usable for cooking, i use it all the time when we are a big crowd
Answer: Yes it is usable for cooking smaller cuts of meat but it will cook slower, I would only use it for smoking.
Answer: Yes it is. I used it this past weekend. It cooks slower, but it does cook.
Answer: Yes, we have used it with success.
Answer: You can fit sever racks of ribs on the top without issue
Q:
Is it weatherproof?
Answer: Short answer, no. Temperature will be effected by cold winds and any rain or snow that comes into contact with the cooking compartment. As far as water/snow getting into the pellet box or control panel, I’ve had no problem with this grill/smoker. Camp Chef does sell a quilt looking thing that would help eliminate the issue of wind and rain hurting the temps but I do not have one.
Answer: I do not think any grill is weather proof. If you are going to keep this outside, at least put a good cover over it. We store ours inside.
Answer: I would want it covered, if it was out in the elements. Mine is under a patio cover but I still keep it covered. The cover stayed on during Hurricane Hannah last summer.
Answer: Cool wind will lower temperature, but cover keeps rain out
Answer: Don't think so, but couldn't even get mine working. Wound up sending it back
Answer: No. You will definitely need a cover if you don’t plan to store it in a garage or something.
Q:
What are the diminsions of the lower rack?
Answer: Bottom shelf is 22”wide 19 1/2”deep the top shelf is 22”wide 16” deep
Q:
It says you can buy a 4 yr protection plan for 78.oo . Does the grill not have a warranty??
Answer: Their website says 3 year warranty
Answer: Camp Chef has a great 3 year warranty on all smokers.
Q:
When you use the grilling function , do you remove the tray and let your steak, burgers, etc.. just drip into where the pellets are?
Answer: No. When grilling, the heat diffuser is moved over and away from the pellet burning cup. The drip tray is still in place to direct drippings to the collection cup. When the heat diffuser is moved, the heat is directed more to the center of the grill for steaks and burgers
Answer: The drip tray stays in place. There is a separate plate over the pellets that is slid to the side using a metal rod on the outside of the body of the smoker. Kinda confusing. I hope this helps. There is probably a YouTube video somewhere that could show you exactly how this works.
Answer: I don’t. But beware of flare ups from the grease of previously smoked items. I just normally turn it up to 325-350 and pull the slide.
Answer: No, I leave the drip pan in it’s normal place, but slide the metal plate that covers the burner over using the knob/rod. Works great.
Q:
The photo shows both an outside front and side shelf; do these come with it?
Answer: Yes, it comes with the front shelf and side shelf. A lot of the other models come with the bottom shelf on the legs and the front shelf optional. This one comes with a front shelf and the bottom shelf optional. If you want to put in the bottom shelf it'll cost you around $80.
Answer: Yes they do, and the front shelf can fold down.
Answer: Yes it comes with a fold down front shelf and a fixed side shelf
Answer: Yes both shelves come with the grill.
Answer: Yep. The front one folds down if not needed or for storage.
Answer: Yes, it does.
Answer: Yes they do
Q:
How does the grill generate the open flame? Does it use the pellets as fuel?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is the grill lid stainless steel or Black coated steel?
Answer: It is grey coated steel.
Q:
Does this model grill share the 160°f minimum set temperature of the pg24dlx? i assume it should, but one should never assume.
Answer: Yes. The MZG has a few add’l features that enhance the use of the pellet grill.
Answer: Yes it does
Q:
How big of a turkey can you cook on this grill?
Answer: I cooked a spatchcocked 13 pound turkey and I don't think I could have gone much larger, at least as far as the cooking surface goes. I think you could fit a pretty large non-spatchcocked turkey in this grill. But honestly, you should be spatchcocking your turkey to smoke it IMO.
Answer: My guess if it fits itll cook so 15lbs or more? Havent found anything it cant cook/smoke yet
Answer: For Thanksgiving I smoked a just under 14# turkey and it was awesome!! Smoked it whole, not spatchcocked. Love this smoker!
Q:
If I order this grill will it come wifi capable? The add says in one place it does and it doesn’t in another
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: This model does not come with WiFi the 1000 dollar ish version of this does. I have not needed the WiFi for the cost difference it’s very easy to use and once you get used to it you no about how long stuff takes so can plan accordingly to be around when it should be done
Answer: You need to purchase one that is WiFi capable. Not sure if this model has a WiFi version.
Answer: Not this specific model. There is a model with wifi. I think it’s called the windwood or something similar. Camp Chef makes a nice smoker!! We love ours.
Answer: There is No WiFi on this model
Answer: It is not wi-fi capable.
Q:
Will Wisconsin winter weather effect the pellets or grilling?
Answer: As long as you keep the pellets dry you should be ok
Answer: I live in Virginia, but would guess it would just use more pellets to hold the temperature.
Q:
Where is it made? Saw China and Utah??
Answer: Assembly is done in Utah some parts from China.
Q:
Did anyone oder this and it actually showed up with the gen 2 pid controller?
Answer: Yep. Mine did. Got it 2 weeks ago
Answer: Yes mine did as well. Just got it yesterday, ordered on 12/9/20
Q:
How long is the cord on this grill? if needed can you use a heavy duty extension cord?
Answer: Maybe 6 ft. And yes you can use an extension cord. I do.
Q:
what is the electrical wattage of the smoker?
Answer: 110
Q:
Does the pizza oven sit on top of the sear box?
Answer: i think pizza oven goes with the sidekick
Q:
Anyone doing true low and slow cooks? How's this box doing with it? Thanks
Answer: I suppose it depends on how low and slow you're talking. I've done several smokes around 200-225 so far and I've been very happy with the results. In fact I find that I get a lot more smoke around those temps than at 250. So far, I've done several chickens, brisket, leg of lamb, meatloaf, and salmon and compared to the electric smoker that I had before, the camp chef is worlds better and much easier to keep smoking.
Answer: I really like this one compared to the Treager that I had. I mostly use the low and high smoke for a 10 hour brisket. I live up above Seattle and The Camp Chef regulates the heat much better in the cold damp weather.
Answer: I usually do everything at 220 degrees, tri tip, brisket, pork butt, and whole chickens. Absolutely love this camp chef. Mark S.
Answer: I did an 8 hour smoke with some pork ribs successfully. Did not need to add pellets.
Answer: Does just as good as my Traeger. Smoked some pork butts 14 hrs
Q:
What is the width of the cooking space + the pellet holder?
Answer: I’m not sure but go to Camp Chef’s web site and you will find the answers to all your questions.
Answer: Approximately 24 inches!
Q:
Does it grill over open flame like a propane grill or is it basically just an oven?
Answer: Yes it has a bar you pull to slide the plate above the flamebox away so it's direct flame. Takes awhile to heat up completely but works great. Direct flame is not the whole grill area just towards the middle due to flamebox being in middle. Great grill very happy with it. I do recommend when direct flame grilling make sure it gets hot enough to burn off and catch fire to residual grease on the plate in-between grill and fire box before putting meat on it
Answer: It is just like an oven. Indirect flame due to shield in front of burner element.
Answer: The slide feature exposes the open flames and you can fire grill steaks, burgers etc. This is the main feature I was looking for when I purchased mine. I've done everything from grilling steaks to smoking fish. I love it!
Answer: It is an awesome smoker. It also has a slide that allows you to grill over flame if you want.
Answer: We bought this last July, and it's the best $ we've spent in years! I use it at least 4 days a week. There is a pull knob on the left side you pull out (open) when you grill. We bought and added the sear box this year.
Answer: Yes you can, grill it has a movable flame deflector.
Answer: It has a lever you pull for over the flame but the drip pan is in between so not true over the flame but it does steaks great.
Answer: It’s not quite the same, but you can use direct heat.
Q:
How much main cooking is there
Answer: Depends on what you mean cooking, if smoking it's both upper and lower racks 811 sq.in.
Answer: Well, I guess that would be to you. You can cook whatever you want on it. Look at the Camp Chef Facebook page. They do entire meals.
Answer: It has 429sq inches on bottom rack and 382 sg inches on top for total of 811sg inches.
Answer: 810 sq.in.
Q:
When this grill will become available? I like this grill and would like to buy it.
Answer: Ask Camp Chef or Amazon. I got mine in Feb.
Q:
Is this safe to cook overnight?
Answer: Yes - I've done it several times
Answer: yes
Q:
Where is this item shipped from and where is it made?
Answer: The onr I ordered was shipped from Illinois
Q:
can be shipped to Italy? what about electricity difference and legal requirements for Italy/Europe?
Answer: I haven’t a clue.
Q:
Is this in stock?
Answer: Ask Amazon
Q:
Is this powered by only electric
Answer: The short answer is "Yes." The long answer is "Yes."
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
How accurate can you set the temperature, 5 degree increments or is it more?
Answer: 25 Degree increments, During start up it seems to go a little high, but then comes down and seems to stay fairly accurate, within 10 degrees.
Q:
Why can’t i have this grill shipped to me? i’m in ca and amazon will not let me buy this and other camp chief grills. does anyone know why?
Answer: Mine shipped to my address, I'm in Az, not Ca.
Q:
How many volts or amps does this require to run the fan and thermostat?
Answer: Standard 110 plug in.
Answer: It runs on 120v household current. Not sure of amp draw
Q:
Capacity of pellet hopper? And, why doesn’t Camp Chef have this model listed on their site????
Answer: I believe its an Amazon exclusive, they were the only place i could find this exact model. I believe they do that with Dicks Sporting goods on a different model.
Answer: They do but you have to enter the Model # and call for details.
Answer: I forgot to answer the hopper question. It holds 20lbs, maybe a bit more.
Q:
Will a small whole pig fit on this grill?
Answer: It would have to be an extremely small pig. To give you an idea, I've smoked two large racks of ribs and a brisket before and they pretty much filled the main level of the grill.
Answer: I would think no. It is a little longer than a standard rack of ribs (you can fit 4 racks if you use the metal rack). If you want to roast a whole pig, I would go one size up.
Answer: A 24 in. smoker will hold something about 23 in. long. Will make a difference if head is left on or if its spread open or closed up. Width would be a bigger problem unless legs are folded in. Look at the measurements of the grill surface and get accordingly.
Answer: I wouldnt think so ,go to bigger pellet grill just my opinion
Answer: I’m not sure
Q:
Because of its sear box, do people put foil on this drip tray?
Answer: Mine did not come with a search box, rather a heat deflector that can be moved out of the way with a. Lnob to allow the heat to more directly hit the cook surface. Foil is optional, but it does mafe for easier cleanup. Only downside would be that the drip tray on this model is slotted to allow the direct heat through it, putting foil over it would probably hinder its fmgrilling capability
Q:
This say it comes with the gen 2 digital controller but I have seen several pictures of the old one. Is it in fact the new digital controller?
Answer: yes
Product reviews of Camp Chef PG24MZG SmokePro Slide Smoker with Fold Down Front Shelf Wood Pellet Grill, Pack of 1, Black & Traeger PEL319 Hickory 100% All-Natural Hardwood Grill Pellets
Shawna Thornton : Smoke..... or not ? Thin and random at best.
We really like the Camp Chef PG24MZG SmokePro Slide Smoker, it came complete w/no damage or missing parts, had easy assembly instructions. There was one possible typo in figure 6 (shelf brackets), it called for four-'M6 X 10 Screws' We never found 'M6 X 10 Screws' however there were plenty of 'M6 X 15 Screws to do the job. It seemed to operate according to instruction in the quick start guide and everything acted as it should be... It rolls up and holds temperature at about anywhere you want it. We've used it 3 times so far, each time we smoked meat, first chicken, then a turkey and lastly a prime rib roast. Everything was slow cooked and the external temperature probes worked flawlessly. Our issue is the unit barely smokes at all ?? I read up on it and it's intended to smoke intermittently, but even then it only seems to smoke fairly well when the auger unloads a fresh batch of pellets into the burner and even then it's not very thick smoke and doesn't last for very long before it appears to not smoke at all. Our meat had some smoke flavor but not what We had hoped for.
I'm no engineer, but I do understand that a lack of airflow to a fire will cause smoke just as throwing leafy material on an outside fire will smoke like crazy because you've essentially cut off the air source !
That said this smoker/grill smokes when a new load of pellets buries the existing fire in the burner, but in my humble opinion the airflow from the fan in the unit is way to high, it blows pellet dust all over the underside of the drip tray in the units belly and quickly supplies the burner with an over abundance of air thus 'fanning the flames' so to speak and the desired smoke is no longer in the works.
It would seem to me there should be a 'Hi-Low' fan speed switch, Low for smoke and Hi for grill. Maybe that's what the 'Smoke Setting 1 to 10' is supposed to accomplish ? If that's the case, mine doesn't work.
I'm tempted to install a variable speed control to the fan and test my theory myself at the risk of blowing up my warranty.
That said, if Camp Chef produces the idea don't forget where it came from ! (I won't charge much for my contribution lol) I'm sure it would make all the difference ! I've smoked out the neighbors plenty of times burning slash...! Choking the fire like a charm.
Outside of that we believe this product dollar for dollar beats the pants off of the competition when all other options it comes with are considered.
I'd sure like to hear from the design folks at Camp Chef, Thanks !
Big Kahuna : Arrived damaged !
Well like some others, product arrived damaged. Outside of shipping box did not look damaged. However as per photos the side tray was severely bent and the area next to probe hole was dented and scraped. My gut tells me the damage was done before boxing. I don't see how it could have happened during shipping considering how the box looked.
Anyway we'll see how company responds. I'll change my score based on that. After paying $600 , I expect a damage free product.
Update
Camp Chef responded quickly and resolved my issue . customer service was awesome ! Changing my score to 5 stars. Assembly was quick, clear and easy. Solid good looking smoker with a ton of great features you can't find elsewhere. I can't wait to get cooking !!
Mochas Boss : This pit is the boss!
Temp control much better than my Traeger, holds more food, I like the chimney cuz the smoke comes away from me and out the back. I wish the grease plate were easier to keep clean but it’s not a deal-breaker. The ash cleanout is boss. Comes with front and side shelves. The pellet dump door is a cool idea: I don’t switch flavor but I don’t let pellets stay onboard.
Customer support super to replace two missing rubber washers.
Only drawback is the price of desirable accessories: patio cover, bottom shelf, are very expensive.
All in all, very good buy.
Card : Best Pellet Grill Option
OK - not big on writing reviews, so here we go. Currently have a Weber charcoal, Weber Gas and Cook Shack electric Smoker. The reason for my purchase relates not getting enough smoke from my Cook Shack Smoker and the fact both my brother in laws having a pellet grills and swearing by them. Sitting on porch at lake house, they said what they preferred in each brand. One liked price of Z Grill and since bought through farm store, he could write off on farm account. Second liked wifi on his Traeger, as he could fire up on way home from work and check temps while in house. Both had dislikes too - having to vacuum out ashes, need to use all pellets before adding new flavor, lack of direct heat option for steaks. Based on this feedback I selected the Camp Chief PG24MZG, as $100 higher than Z Grill and no wifi option, were not personal concerns. Only used once, but after running at 350 for 1/2 hour (recommend) temp maintained an acceptable range (maybe 5 stars if I'd used more). Assembly was a breeze and I feel anyone could complete without pulling out your hair. Minor scratches where lid rests on grill, but no dents. When assembling the hopper lid, I recommend placing the product catalog over the top of hopper grate, as screws fell into hopper and required a long magnet to retrieve. This grill is heavy and once assembled it takes two grown men and a boy to lift. Cooked a couple T-Bones, first smoking at 180 for 30 min pulling from grill, turning it up to 400 and then returning to grill to finished cook. Actually achieved a nice smoked flavor, but I'll admit I missed the charcoal flavor my Weber provides. Ordered pellets which blend charcoal and oak, so we'll see if this helps. Looking forward to trying a brisket, as hoping to get a nice smoke ring. Hope this helps. Update - this cover fits grill - Mini Lustrous Cover for Camp Chef Pellet Grills Model DLX 24", SmokePro 24", Woodwind Pellet Grills, Anti-UV Water Resistant, Black
Marci : Perfect for multi-level cooks
Best of both worlds with smoker and slide for open flame. Love the size of the hopper and the low and slow smoking is so tasty.
On a side note: side shelf came dented, but customer service was outstanding and replaced very quickly.
Sean : The paint used on it fails from heat.
I would love to write a glowing review of this smoker. It does a great job smoking meat and cooking food. The problem I’m seeing less then 1 year after purchasing it is that it is rusting already in the lower portion of the smoker where the most heat is
This isn’t a cheap product so having the paint fail from heat when it’s made to cook food is ridiculous. I’ll be contacting the manufacturer about this issue.
Smiles : Beware of the lemons! ????
Delivery and set up by Amazon was great and that’s where the good experience ends lol
This was a Fathers Day present that we used a combination of saved points, gift cards etc to be able to purchase a nice smoker for my husband. Everyone was so excited to be able to give him a nice good smoker…..went to use it and my husband was so frustrated and defeated I felt absolutely horrible! It hasn’t worked correctly since day one. The flame continues to go out and reads “flame out” My husband has read the manual over and over, asked other CC owners and tried to research online to no avail….
Amazon customer service was nice but asked us if we could ship the smoker…..which wasn’t an option as it was fully assembled and would cost us more to ship back! So we took the route of calling Camp Chef as it has a warranty…..still haven’t heard back from them.
I did a good amount of research and asked other people that owned smokers for their input so this was extremely disappointing.
I personally will not be purchasing bigger items off Amazon as it’s too much of a hassle if it’s a lemon and then you’re stuck with the lemon and out a good amount of money. Kinda makes it a sour experience. Maybe I should of thought about that before but I didn’t. Lesson learned ????
Stacy Reece : Overall Poor Quality out of Box/Bluetooth
I really had high hopes, as I own several other Camp Chef products as well as was looking forward to the add-ons (pizza oven, grill station). I did read a lot of reviews, and though I saw the bluetooth issue repeated over and over again (as well as on Reddit and other sites), I was ok with taking a chance since I thought Camp Chef would certainly fix the issue this late in the product stage. I was wrong...bluetooth simply doesn't work in spite of trying my Samsung 8+, then Apple 6, then iPad, then finally trying my old Android Galaxy Note from 7 years ago (a tip provided in the app!). No luck. This was the straw that broke my back as I have uploaded several photos here so you can see the quality issues that I was actually willing to deal with as they really didn't affect the usability (except maybe the bent hinge bracket that allowed smoke to exit the cover.) My wife told me to return this as we had waited many years to make such a big purchase (and she also told me to by a Traeger before I hit the buy button on this). Please review the photos I uploaded as well as read as many comments regarding the bluetooth issues as they have NOT been addresses in spite of at least 2 years of product development. Finally, I am also a level 7 Google Guide and have reviewed hundreds of times, so I am not your typical person to trash any company. With that said, the weight, design and ease of use (I did start up the grill and go through the burn in process as well as smoked a 15 pound brisket), were solid. But I simply cannot ignore these issues in good conscience. I hope Camp Chef finally addresses the (expensive) bluetooth add-on feature as it appears to be a deal-killer with hundreds of folks.
Daniel : Love the grill! Not the probes!
If I could give the grill a 5 or 6, I would. I love everything about it except am very disappointed in the temperature probes. My experience so far is they are not even close to accurate. If there is a bright side to this, the meat is nowhere near done when the probe says it is done. This way the meat stays on the grill and gets done. Better than the other ways around, for sure. But, I'm still disappointed in the probes. There is a very slight chance I'm doing something wrong but I have followed the directions, so...
Amazon Customer : Freaking amazing
I made all kind of meats on this pellet grill. I had it for 2 weeks and have been using it everyday almost. It’s great!!! Hands down awesome. On low temps it swings a little more than the higher temps but nothing major. Also I cleaned my grill after every use I can see how the ash can build up and possibly ruin it. I love this grill and everything comes out great, just for the first few days I was trying to get use to it so I dried out some meats.
Jace : Game changer.
I have been a life long charcoal grill user.
This smoker has changed everything for the better. I cannot believe how good everything has come out. You will not be disappointed with the results! Highly recommend.
Rob Crawford : Perfect all-around grill.
Perfect so far. It is heavy. Most likely a 2-person job to get unpacked. Assembly wasn’t bad. It took me about 1.5-2 hours. I had a minor ding in the heat shield (inside of cover) and some evidence of oxidation on the legs.
It has been a pleasure to operate. Getting the pellets going and figuring out the operation was straightforward. It’s great bc there is direct and indirect cooking. I’ve done burgers and a ham, which both turned out great. Temperature control has been within 5-10 degrees with no fuss. I like being able to see the amount of pellets in my hopper.
Cleanup was a piece of cake. I emptied the ash cup and what little grease there was. I have a NexGrill that I may only use for a sear going forward. That is good for a quick steak, but this smoker/grill gives me the precision I need.
Bernadette : Save your money
I am very disappointed in my decision to choose this smoker. We used it 3 times and it caught on fire. No explanation for it ???? save your money.
Eric Freeman : Smoker troubles. Want to love it, but it's a long road.....
I really really want to like this smoker and for the most part, it's a great.... in theory. Upon assembly, the lid handle was defective. I was sent a replacement, but it was for the wrong model smoker. They sent a second replacement but without any screws. I was able to harvest the screws from replacement handle and one from the original handle. Next, after a month, the auger just died. I got a FLAME warning on the unit which can mean a number of things according to the manual. In my case, "CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE". They ended up sending me a new Hopper unit, with no instructions.
Sigh.
Camp Chef gets 5-stars for customer service, because someone in the US picks up right away, there's no god-awful phone trees. They seem genuinely caring and helpful. The 2-stars is mainly for the auger going bad after 1 month and no instructions for the hopper replacement.
Update again" 1-star for this junk. Continual flame errors even after receiving a new auger unit from CC. BUY A TRAEGER!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS GARBAGE!!!!!
Steven Whitley : Don’t overpay for a pellet grill
Great grill, perfect pellet grill for reasonable proce
Samm : Working great now
Just received the grill today. Some assembly directions were not very clear. Biggest problem I see already is the ash cup location. The brackets which held the legs have been replaced by a solid piece front and back undoubtably stronger but block view of the ash cup. I can only see to put in place by almost lying on the ground. Due to physical limitations, I am unable to see to put it in place. I am looking at possible solutions. Solved the problem by putting together a block to raise up one end so it can reached more easily.
Initial start worked great but on the first use, it was dead. Customer service said it needs the controller replaced. Box was in rough shape, front shelf and hopper lid were dented.
Received new module and installed it. Working great now, love it to grill, more flavor, less flare up.
Drew : Not long term durable
I bought this November 2019 after lots of research. I liked the ash clean out idea. Still need to take guts out and vacuum just like all the others, just not as often. 9 days ago my auger motor stopped working. I found a youtube video on how to clear the auger. After taking apart the hopper and clearing the auger, it still did not work. Contacted live chat, spent almost 45 minutes discussing my problem and warranty issue. ( I'm thinking he was chatting with multiple people because of time between responses). After almost an hour, I had to go out and take bottom of hopper off and crawl under to switch some wires to confirm the motor bad. The next day they sent me shipping confirmation for the part. Shipped FedEx ground which then took 8 days to get here. Part arrived today (friday) broken. Camp chef has no support on Friday-Sun, so it will be at least Monday before anyone knows my part came broken. This is my only grill and pretty much the only way we cook, and now will be without a grill for 2 plus weeks. When I bought this I threw out a 21 year old Weber. I understand parts can break, but at just over a year and the lack of support I do not recommend this company or their products.
E. Mills : Damaged on Delivery
After getting grill unpacked, right away I noticed that several of the pieces were severely damaged. I contacted Customer Support and they said that they would send me replacement parts. I went ahead and assembled the unit with the damaged pieces as they were not crucial to it's function. After putting it completely together I also noticed that the main part of the grill itself was severely dented as well. Waiting on a response from Camp Chef. If they tell me that I have to return the entire thing I'm going to be extremely upset.
T. Carnes : Excellent Choice
I recently purchased the PG24MZG and based on the first use I was delighted with the results! To begin: When compared to other pellet grills / smokers in this price range - this is a great choice based on the included amenities. 1. Duel Temp Probes - This allows you to cook more than 1 item and view their internal temps independently. 2. The Grill / Sear panel which allows you to change from Smoke to Grill / Sear with only the pull of a knob. 3. The Front Shelf - Many competitors charge extra for the feature. When grill arrived it was easy to assemble and instructions were very clear. I used the new grill this past weekend to smoke a 9 lb Pork Butt, Sausages and Baked Beans for a party we were having. As not having used the grill before, I was a bit nervous. As it turned out, there was no reason to be nervous, everything turned out awesome! I was amazed at the smoke rings in the butt as well as the sausages and everyone loved the flavor of all the meats and beans. I live in Nebraska and the outside temps were between 25 and 30 degrees the day I used my new grill. The internal temp of the smoker did fluctuate between about 205 and 235 on the grill's "High Smoke" setting which is stated at 220 degrees. Based on the outside temps and some wind we had I had figured that there would be some fluctuation however i was pleasantly surprised at the seemingly stingy use of the pellets. I highly recommend this product and I look forward to using and exploring the many uses for other foods in the near future.
11shopper : Hasn't work longer than it worked
Purchased in March, used maybe 20 times, then grill stopped working. Sent 2 new control panels, still not working. Sent new hopper/motor unit. Still did not work. Now telling me it maybe bad heater rod/element. Still trying all different things, still not working. Not much left to replace. Has not worked since late August, and it's not mid December. Worked great WHEN it worked. Service is terrible. Customer support takes several days for any answer. Getting ready to return and purchase another manufacturer.
Bret Buswell : Great cooker Treager killer!!!
Granted I've only done a couple coks on it so far but it ha worked flawlessly. First cook was just some burgers they came out juicy and flavorful. My second cook was a 14 lbs. Brisket 10 hrs later a perfect brisket took it off at 215 degrees my next cook is gona be some pulled pork next weekend. Holds temp really well I really like the smoke settings not to much just enough to give a nice smoke ring one the brisket. The instructions on putting it together were clear and concise.
Jamie : It’s worth it!
I got features that weren’t offered on the bigger brands at a reasonable price. I have had ZERO issues with this since I purchased it back in December. It is now mid February. I have smoked brisket, whole chickens, ribs, and a turkey. All were excellent. I got in this brand because my buddy owns one with the Gen 1 controls. I liked his very much. Then on Amazon I saw a FACTORY scratch and dent for less than I could have bought his version for. The only difference is the start up. Mine you plug in. And cycle to “start up” and don’t touch anything. Let it do it’s 6 minutes. Then, THEN adjust the temp and smoke control. Otherwise if will force a “bypass” mode and you will just be dumping pellets and there will never be a ignition. I wish the instructions had said this. The instructions are vague at best. With that said. I highly recommend this smoker/pellet grill. I would advise that if you can work metal you can get one from the factory for a hundred or so less if you don’t mind a scratch or a dent or two.
Amazon Customer : Camp Chef Quality
This smoker is everything I had hoped for. The setup was a breeze, the materials are top notch and the food....wow! I have never been able to smoke/grill with such ease and accuracy before. This is my first pellet smoker and boy am I glad I went with a Camp Chef!
Bandj : Awesome machine camp chef did it right!
I'm not a review guy. But I really did some home work on my next pellet smoker. Camp Chef won!!!!
why is it better then the rest?
1 - The temperature. is always correct even +- 5 degrees.
2- very easy assembly - my daughter and I had a great time putting it together, FYI if you have WIFI get your kids to help out . I'm older and need help finding the app.
3- I have experimented on - Tri-Tip- Salmon-Ribs-Brisket-Chicken breast, legs and thighs, Pork belly, Pork butt, and jerky.
All were great except the jerky. you'll need to get a good recipe and watch it close.
Only down fall - We need a camp chef pellet grill recipe blog. Tregger kicks ass on this.
I cooked on a lot of pellet grills this MGZ is the same as the woodwind but cost less not sure why maybe its made for Amazon.
Comfort55 : Be sure you run the unit soonto make sure everything works before you need to cook for a party
I did have problems initially, but the service group was very responsive and fixed my problem. It did take a few days to get a replacement controller but I was not under the gun to cook something.

L. Davis : Easy to use and worth every dime!
If you are wavering on to buy this or not, buy it. It does everything it says it can do. Easy, easy to use and the flavor is out of this world. We've cooked burgers, chicken, tomahawk steak, pork chops, butt and tonight a tri-tip roast. The direct flame is what sealed the deal for me.
Sean Sanborn : Almost perfect
After many months of research, Camp Chef was the brand to buy for a quality smoker, that doesn’t break your wallet. There are better brands, but they are costly. The ONlY issue I’ve had with this after months of use is the temperature probes being off a little. Camp. He’d is great about warranty these, but they aren’t perfect. There are options to replace them with better. The rest of the smoker is well thought out and easy to clean. I would recommend putting foil on the drip tray to ease the cleaning process.

John W. : Great Smoker. Easy to operate.
This smoker works perfectly. I like this particular model for the added options that make it convenient to operate. The dual meat probes are useful for meats of different sizes being smoked at various locations within the grill surfaces. It comes with the folding front shelf option, very handy. I got the thermal blanket and it helps with windy or cooler temperature cooking. The temperature does not vary as much with the thermal cover installed. Baby Back Ribs were the first to be smoked on our unit. They turned out great. Used a dry rub which we made. The smoke ring after 3 hours was very prominent within the meat. The unit controls well by itself, no need to constantly open or monitor the temperature. Prefer the pellet smoker for that reason. Also like the availability of different wood pellet options that are easily available in 20 lb bags. Apple, Hickory, Cherry and Hardwood blends. Seems like one could get many grilling sessions out of a single bag. Construction of the unit seems good and everything assembled easily. It is not too heavy to move around. Overall very happy with this particular unit. Don't seem to need a stainless steel finish for our usage. Temperature ranges seem similar among the various models that are available. Camp Chef has a good product and provides a lot of information readily available on the internet.
David Malone : Cooking on this is like watching the birth of a unicorn...it’s unbelievably magical
This product will ruin your life...I could never imagine eating ribs, brisket, pork, chicken and anything else really without smoking it on this Devine gift from the BBQ gods. I smoke all the time now...I have called off of work to smoke, made up excuses not to go out with friends to smoke...it’s completely taken over my life...all I do is look up recipes on Facebook and Pinterest to get my fix...this Camp Chef grill has completely transformed my life from a dull smokeless existence into a culinary pinnacle of BBQ mastery...set up is easy and takes about an hour, after that follow the directions for the feed and initial burn and you are on the way to BBQ bliss...you just set the temp you want and go about your day to day business...when you reach your desired temp of the meat-it comes with two temp probes to monitor the internal temp of the meat- pull it and enjoy the best thing your taste buds have had...
Regular Joe : Works ok
I've had this since the beginning of May 2020 and have used it about 30 times so far. Maybe I expected too much for a smoker in this price range, but it's not all bad. First the good - it hasn't completely quit or left me hanging yet. Despite its short comings (or things I need to get used to) I've been able to turn out some amazing meals with this. Up and running I guess it does it's job pretty well, but I don't have another to compare it to. The ash clean out cup is a great idea and works well. Initial assembly and instructions went well. Probably should do this outside or in the garage as it may not fit through your door when you're done - trust me =)
The cons are:
The pellet feed (fast feed) doesn't work anymore I just get lines on the display and nothing happens. So if you run out or want to change the flavor the only way to feed them through is during start-up process. This can take awhile.
Both temp probes have failed already and I've replaced them.
It doesn't hold the temp it's set for very well (my opinion - nothing to compare it to) and will fluctuate 40f during the cook even keeping the lid closed. It warms up to about 20f over where it's set then will cool off about 20f before picking up the temp again. Most times the average temp runs about 20f over what the thermostat is set for anyhow.
The pellet bin shape doesn't "encourage" the pellets to fall to the auger. The sightglass, that I thought was a great idea, is pretty useless at this point as the pellets stay against the sides of the bin with the sightglass showing it half full but there's none getting to the auger. - trying to restart is a pain. Having to go out and make sure the pellets are getting to the auger is also a pain during a longer cook. I guess if you keep the hopper full all the time it wont matter so much - but that again is attention I didn't want to have to give during a longer cook.
While the front shelf seems like a great idea, and as long as you remember it's not a huge deal but, if you have anything of any size on it while you close the lid, the handle more than likely will hit whatever you have on the shelf. Good thing the handle cleans easy enough.
I've used several different pellets (including Camp-Chef) over this time and the performance has been pretty much the same with each brand.
So while none of these things are deal breakers at this point, I've learned a lot from this smoker and will likely shop around more/smarter when this one quits.
Jerry Michaels : Some of my parts were damaged too. Sear feature disappointing, not hot enough for a steak
Several of my parts were damaged too. They were wrapped well and no damage on the box so I suspect they are building these out of their "seconds" parts.
Sear feature disappointing, not hot enough for a steak. I didn't expect much but I can see little difference with the sear knob open.
It does seem to produce more sweet smoke than my old Traeger grill though.
UPDATE: This really produces a nice smoke layer, much better than my Traeger did so I am upping my rating from 3 to 4 stars and I order the sear accessary.....
Michael D : Very good so far
Box was in very bad shape but grill had only a few minor scrapes. Assembly instructions were a little confusing but finally got grill put together and it fired right up. So far, so good.
Steven Whitley : Don’t overpay for a pellet grill

Boris : Customer service problem
I really like the grill and the quality of food it produces. However, I am upset and dissatisfied with the company's customer service. To make the long story short, due to factory defect I have been needing to replace one of the parts on the pellet hopper. It took a while for the company to get in touch with me and promise to ship me the part. I had to email them several times to inquire on the status of the order. Finally, the part had been shipped, but they shipped the wrong part. It has been at list a month, since I received an apology and a promise to ship a correct part. It has been pretty frustrating and disappointing.
Comfort55 : Be sure you run the unit soonto make sure everything works before you need to cook for a party
I did have problems initially, but the service group was very responsive and fixed my problem. It did take a few days to get a replacement controller but I was not under the gun to cook something.
Temperature comes up quickly and controls to temperature well.
Jody W : My only regret is not ordering one sooner!
I've had this unit a little over three months. Battling with construction around the apt I've managed to run it over 100 hours. I've found the sweet spot at 250° and it holds very well. I like to top off the pellets when the hopper reaches halfway(6-7hrs). Easy to clean (always foil the drip pan when using indirect). Absolutely worth purchasing.

Britton M. : really pleased
made really well. strong, great materials, packaged well, no damage on delivery. got it fast. cooks like the directions say. did filet mignon, whole frosted chicken and pork tenderloin.....all were delicious and easy to cook on this rill....amazed at how little ash there is after smoking and grilling (1-3 hours). looking forward to my first home made Brisket. buy this thing...nomuss, no fuss.
Shane J. : Poor product, worse customer service.
Bought this grill and the auger died after only 5 months. Finally got a new motor after nearly three weeks and it shows up broken. I’m appalled that I spent 600 dollars for a product that lasted 5 months, now I also have to tear it apart and fix it. I called custom service again and they said to switch fan blades from one motor to the next. I will never buy or recommend Camp Chef again. My Pit Boss lasted over 5 years with no issues, I will return to them.

Michael : Outstanding Grill
After doing a fair bit of research I settled on this grill as the best option at its price point. I have not been disappointed by my choice. I would absolutely buy this again and have already recommended it to my friends.
Good:
• Solid build with thick metal components.
• Easy to assemble
• Great features including my personal favorite the fold-out table in the front of the grill.
◘ Beer bottle opener
◘ Grease catcher
◘ Ash catcher
◘ Pellet release to cycle or store pellets when not in use
◘ Easy to remove or adjust top rack
◘ Two temperature probes
◘ Little door on the side to run probe wires into the cook box
• The start and stop is quick and easy
• Great clean smoking. Have done a brisket and slow cooked steaks with reverse sear and the brisket came out with a great bark and the steaks and brisket were moist and had wonderful smoke rings. (see pictures)
• The temperature is relatively steady and as good or better than could be hoped for at this price point.
• Great heat distribution (from below)
• The direct heat feature works quite nice as well. Have done some burgers and they were a hit among my friends. Could easily do a steak on this thing as well.
Bad:
• Wheels are pretty weak, though they do their job.
• While the temp control is good at this price point it does fluctuate at times.
• The internal thermometer reads about ten degrees hotter than it actually is on the cooking surface(see pictures)
• Didn't come with a cover, though I purchesed the...
"Patio King Grill Cover Replacement for Camp Chef Woodwind, SmokePro, All 24-Inch Pellet Grills - Upgraded Heavy Duty, Ultra-Durable, All-Weather Pellet Grill Cover - Charcoal Gray"
here on Amazon.
• Would be nice if there were some hooks to hang cleaning brushes and whatnot.
DR84 : Great smoker and grill
Great pellet grill. Holds temp well with swings of 8 or so degrees. Have had a great smoke ring and flavor from pellets. It is simple to clean and ash cup makes it easy to dump. Have used the slide to open flame grill and it worked well. Biggest issue that I have found is that pellets will sit on sides of hopper and not completely funnel leaving the opportunity to run dry in the tube. Also, I’m not 100% sure the temp probes are accurate. Planning on trying a different thermometer to see how close they are. Other than that it is great.
John Moss : I hated pellet smokers for no reason, and now I love them.
I have been smoking meat for about 15 years now, I currently own 4 different smokers, and I compete annually in the local KCBS event. Being a "BBQ purist", I was against pellet smokers, electric smokers, gas smokers, etc. Burn coal or wood or burn nothing at all I thought. These Pellet smokers were for backyard want to be's that have no skill, and it was my duty to be against these contraptions, or so I thought. Slowly I started to evolve my thinking as I started using temperature controllers and other assisting devices to my smokers, until finally I thought, what the hell, why not try out a pellet smoker. So after much research on different brands I decided to go with the Camp Chef for its easy clean out and high temperature grilling capabilities.
The Camp Chef arrived in good condition and was relatively easy to assemble with the help of my son (a second body is very helpful). There was no damage to any parts and once constructed the unit was ready to go. After running it for 4 hours to cook off manufacturing oils and such, we loaded her up with some oak pellets and threw on a whole brisket to see what kind of space this thing had. I used the top rack so I could put a drip pan below the brisket (preserving the clean smoker as long as possible) I could see there was plenty of room to have a second brisket on the lower rack, possibly two if they are on the 10lb size. After 18 hours at 225 we had a gorgeous and delicious piece of meat with a better wood flavor than I get from my Weber Smokey Mountain.
Over the past two months, I have fallen in love with this thing, using it every weekend. From Steaks, to burgers, to chicken, to roasts, this Camp Chef has converted me. I still have use for my other smokers on the big cookouts, but when I am cooking for just the family or a small group its the Camp Chef that gets the nod.
The good:
* Easy clean out of ash, reduces the frequency you need to vacuum out the smoker.
* Pellet hopper release makes changing out pellets easy. I never worry about how much to put in, as I can load it up, then pull the lever to dump the remaining out. This allows me to change up which woods I use depending on the cook.
* Easy to use, minimal need to watch over it
* Hopper holds enough pellets to smoke for 10-16 hours depending on your temperatures, the window makes it easy to see the pellet level from afar.
The bad:
* The temperature sensor seems to be down near the fire pot, so the temperature in the cooking area is about 20 degrees cooler that what ever you set the smoker at. This is not a big deal, but irritating.
* Overnight cooks can be a challenge, I live in California with decent weather overnight in the winter and saw a significant drop in the cook chamber temp overnight with the outside temp in the upper 40s to low 50s. They sell an insulated blanket for these, but I have just gone to turning up the temp before going to bed.
* The pellets can run dry if you do not periodically shift the pellets in the hopper due to the way the auger pulls

So I took a risk and didn't go Treager. Also ordered online rather than local (where I could throw it in the truck and go get my money back).
At any rate, box came fine. Zero damage...looked great. Unpacked and found a dent/scrape on the main drum...hmm..no biggie..little grill paint.
Assembly. Missing a whole set of screws pretty sure but OK. Side shelf has been run over by a truck. Now I'm a bit worried because you know....someone packed this box and knew that "modern art" was probably not the right part to put in the box...wait maybe they didn't know what they were doing :(
No problem though...I'm sure Camp Chef will ship me a new shelf...doesn't hurt my goal of smoking a pork but tonight.
Assembled...on the patio...plugged in....hopper half full. Feed...everything's fine...set to 350 for initial burn in...
Flame out...flame out...flame out. Called..."More than 60 minute wait time".
So now..I wait...until camp chef can be bothered to answer an email or phone. Pretty sure I'm paying 200 bucks to return this thing but will see...others said they had great customer service?
