What is the best method forbusing this rig?

Answer: Just cast it out and reel it in... Let it sink a bit before starting the retrieve- the deeper the water and deeper you think the fish are, the more you let it sink before beginning the retrieve. Sometimes small jerks during retrieve help.

How much weight can this handle? A lot smaller than it looked. Was trying to use it for striper but doesn't seem like it would be strong enough

Answer: I dont think i would attempt stripers with it, maybe schooly size 5-6 lbs. You could swap out the swivels, look up YouTube video tactical bassin alabama rig they show you how and which rings to use if you want to beef it up. I have caught Bass up to 6+lbs on it.

I tested the SF 5-arm Alabama umbrella rig on a Powell Inferno 7’ medium heavy casting rod. This is an excellent rig. It is constructed very well and it is durable. Little to no maintenance between casts. Great action in the water. I highly recommend trying it for yourself.

I have been fishing this lake in Canada for 39 years and there has always been one thing I have always known. The smallmouth bass just don't bite in mid-summer especially in middle of a sunny day. NOT anymore. Second week of august, sunny day about 10am my daughter and I tried this lure in the deepest part of the lake where the bait fish school. Wham! 5 minutes into a slow troll the first of 6 very nice 3-5 lbs bass over the next 90 minutes. Best day of fishing in 39 years

Good rig and very good price. The metal hook ups are for very small jig heads. I had to use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the rigs apart far enough to get any jig heads I currently owned on them. Other than that they never collapsed or got tangled on themselves.

I gave this a 2 star for two reasons, one the appearance is great caught couple 2 pounders did great, two one a tournament day I hook a great fish maybe around 9 to 10 pounder got it next to the boat working the fish to point I could lip it and bang the fish is off, after I cooled down I looked at the rig and notice that the fish had straightend out the swivel that hooks on the swim bait. so when you buy a bama rig first thing is check out the swivels and make sure they are heavy duty, I lost a new truck and boat in that tournament because of cheap swivels!!!!!!! buyer beware of weak swivels!!!!

This is a nice little gem I found here, already ordered from here 3 times, each time I need to order from amazon I'll throw one or two of these in my cart to stock up as all us fisherman know, you find something that works and you like, get them while you can eventually they won't make it anymore.
Hopefully not the case but happens too often. Now to the review, I opened it up and for the price wasn't expecting much especially with 8 blades. These aren't built with $20.00+ a-rig materials but not bad.
The swivels were small and a concern as I have the opportunity to catch bass in the 7+ lb range here in the northeast.
Well I loaded my storm swimbaits on and off to the lake I went. So far I have caught a bunch of fish up to 5.9 lbs on this rig and haven't had any breakage issues, I did lose two rigs to snags, but I'm throwing on 20 flouro.
I've caught some nasty thrashing 5 lb smallies on this as well and have not had any breakage yet on any of the hardware.

So my holding up concerns were laid to rest. The only issue which is more of just a nuisance is the clips that hold thwe blades on will slide out of the dedicated groove they are, and you just have to look and slide it back in, no big deal considering the price, if you want to wrap something or had a material to keep that from sliding out that would work, problem solved but not a huge issue. That's why the 4 star and not a perfect 5. The 4 blades are very nice as well I have those too! In the pic is me (TW hat) with a 3 fish limit (caught 8 that day) I caught and winning a tourney, all on the 8 blade, 3 for 15.5lbs with 5.9 lunker. Merry Christmas folks

These are pretty cheaply made compared to other name brands I have used. The biggest problem is the blades keep sliding down to the bait. I even tried to crimp the blade stop down more and ended up cutting through the wire arm!! I would NOT recommend!!

These looked like a great deal for double-bladed rigs. Out of the gate they performed quite well, after several casts the blades started working their way over the bent retainers. When that happens, the bait is useless, it just keeps happening again and it's frustrating.

Going to buy some hog farmer rigs.

Rig looks awesome as it flows through the water with the additional set of spoons. Every time you catch a fish you pretty much have to re-bend the arms so that the spoons can spin freely (NBD). Gets lots of attention!
