Answer: One side is closed. You fill the tube from the open end, light the pellets with the tube standing upright and allow to burn like a candle for about 10 minutes. Blow the flame out, then I prop my open end slightly up with a piece of aluminum. You can still lay the tube completely flat and you will only lose a couple pellets.

For example, the tube does not add significant temperature to my very large smoker or if I used a second chamber for the tube and routed the smoke to a chamber in my small smoker with the meat/cheese...
Answer: Cold smoke means smolder, and not flaming up. It will be burning, red, but no flame. Cold smoke means say less than 300 degrees F.

Answer: Well, how high is high? When you smoke your temperature should be under 250 degrees so no it wont get damaged, its pretty thick metal and I’m satisfied with it so far.
Answer: It is a light weight metal ( thin), I didn't use over heat, use to infuse smoke flavor into cheese so it wasn't exposed to direct heat only the heat from the flavor pellets. Sorry I couldn't be of more help....

Answer: I don't have a gas grill, but after many smoking sessions with this and other tools, I'd say it would probably work but do NOT put it over a lit burner. Set it off to the side away from the flames, or on a solid plate above them to shield it and light it per instructions to generate smoke for the cooking chamber - I would get this lit and stabilized before firing up the gas. Depending on the draft inside, you may have to try different locations to keep airflow moving over this smoker tube.

Answer: Yes,you can.But it takes about 1 minutes to ignite the pellets in this device.But for the propane torch only takes about 30s to lit it up.

Answer: Used a 16oz drinking glass to fill the tube it was just over 2 drinking glass fulls as far as weight I can’t help also depends on the brand of pellets/density but each tube will smoke for 4-5 hours depending on pellets used. I use pit boss hickory pellets and I got about 5 hours off one tube plenty of smoke for one cook. Pellets are cheap don’t worry about how much is used worry about quality of what you cook and enjoy.
Answer: That depends on how long you smoke. Here’s what I think, if you totally depend on the smoker for all your grilling, you may find that it lasts about as long as a big bag of charcoal, but if you smoke for several hours at a time it won’t last as long.

Answer: Yes and Yes .Even a few minutes of smoke will impart flavor.I use smoke on hamburgers often.apply the smoke at the very start of the cook and try to terminate the smoke generation about halfway through or less.You don’t really want smoke applied at the cook or it can make a bad flavor.You can fill the tube halfway but it’s best to fill the open space at the far end with some aluminum foil first,so the pellets stay packed for proper burning and also be easier to light.

Answer: Yes, one end is open, the other end is closed. Filling the tube with pellets and lightly packing them in seems to keep them in place. Place the tube in the smoker and use a torch to light it.
Answer: The end is a cap and comes off. Just fill the screen tube, replace the press fit end cap and you are good to go. Your torch will shoot through the side screening and ignite the wood pellets.

Answer: i would say this holds around three pounds of pellets. i only fill mine up a little under half full, this usually lasts about two hours smoke time. 3lbs each full up would give you six full refills.

Answer: No you do not want to use this directly on lump charcoal when filled with smoker pellets. Smoker pellets will smolder on their own. Adding this tube filled with pellets directly on charcoal will produce high temps and flames. Best to fill with pellets light them once flaming blow flame out and leave on top of grill grate with charcoal below grill grate. Use in conjunction with charcoal yes. Directly on top of charcoal NO!

Place on top of grate where the food goes and let the smoke circulate around the food for an hour or if you want to start the charcoal you can let it smoke while he food is cooking. This smoker tube works really well. I previously. It generates plenty of smoke, stays lit for over for hours, and makes cold smoking salmon and cheese a very simple process.
STEVE I : A NICE WAY TO ADD SMOKE FLAVOR !
Great to use with my gas barbecue grill. It adds a nice smoke flavor to the food. I fire up the pellets in the smoke tube and put the meat on the grill, direct from the fridge. I cover the grill and let it smoke for a couple of hours. I then turn the grill on and cook as usual.
While not providing the flavor of a slow smoke wood barbecue or a pellet grill, it’s a lot easier and faster to use and cleanup.

Easy to use! While it infuses some serious smoke flavor, I didn't see much of a smoke ring. First time i used it, I cold smoked boneless country ribs for about 3 1/2 hours. The Flavor was great but no smoke ring. I then smoked a tri-tip for about 5 1/2 hours. I was afraid the smoke flavor might overpower the meat flavor but it was delicious. Again, lots of smoke flavor but no ring ?? There was leftovers and when I took the foil off the smoke aroma was wonderful. I love the product, i recommend the product and will probably but at least 1 more for the RV. Next up: BRISKET!!

I used it to cold smoke deviled eggs for Thanksgiving. I use pellets and it seemed to work great and the flavor was good. I bought the cheaper bag of pellets vs Trager brand, which is $8 more.

My boyfriend has used it several times and has not had any problems with it. We have had it about a month or two. It is pretty standard as far as smoke sticks go. It puts out a lot of smoke when filled fully with pellets. I do not know if he has ever cleaned it or not so I am rating it a 5 for ease of cleaning just because I don't want to give it a lesser rating for no good reason. The stick in and of itself doesn't effect flavor other than the fact that it adds more smoke to your smoker and I don't personally notice a difference but my boyfriend might disagree. I gave it a 5 for flavor for the same reason as cleaning. I think if you want to affect your flavor you would change what pellets you were smoking with.

Works perfect. I didn't even have to buy a torch, just poor a little rubbing alcohol on the top of the pellets and light, wait ten minutes and you're ready. You do have to wait the 9 or 10 minutes though or you lose the smolder.

I'm not sure how I lived without this before... it has completely changed the way I use my barbecue. Everything I cook -- meats, veggies, seafood -- tastes and looks so much better now. I'm going to experiment with cold-smoking as well... I just started making cheeses and would love to give them a smoky flavor as well.
The tube is holding up well... stainless steel is the only way to go. I haven't needed the brush yet, so I'm not sure it is even necessary but good to have just-in-case. I'd give this smoker a 20-rating if I could. Worth every penny.

This seemed like a good idea but I just could not get it to stay lit. I followed the directions to the letter and the longest I could keep it going was ten minutes. Tried all different spots on the grill along with different draft settings and the same result.

I bought this to use in my pellet smoker since I didn't feel that it smokes the meat enough. After the first use, I was amazed what a difference it makes. I filled it with mesquite chips and followed the lighting instructions and was amazed how much smoke it put out for at least 6 hours. Really made a difference

Worked great. Added a little pellet of choice and used propane torch to ignite. Made a lot of smoke and helped my pellet grill make some great smoke and bark on a brisket.
Metal seems to hold up well and just ash left after burn. Most smoke is absorbed in the first 3-4 hours until bark forms.

Got this item reciently (Monday july 13th) was finally able to use it this past Sunday ( July 19th ) to smoke a beef tri tip. Inly neefed about 2hrs of smoke so i filled thevm tube up about 1/2 way (6") it lit without any problem and i had smoke for 2 1/2hrs and when i pulled thectube at the end there was about a tablespoon of pellets left. VERY SATISFIED wuth this purchese i recomend it.

I read a lot of reviews on this item and decided to give it a try. I put pellets in it and hit them with the torch for about a minuet and then let it burn for 10. I blew the flame out and then put it in my grill. With the lid down I tried to add some smoke flavor to some chicken I was grilling but nothing. the smoke was negligible and was also unnoticeable. My pellets were dry and good. What I noticed is outside the grill, it smoked up a storm. As soon as I put it in the grill, the smoke diminished quite a bit. I believe this has to do with airflow (or lack of). I will try it again and see what happens but am leary about any improved performance. Should there be an improvement and/or a change in the process, I'll update the review.

This is my first smoker tube so really dont have anything to compare it to. Does great job, just as described.

I fill it with pellets and let it overhang about 5 inches off the prep shelf on the side of my grill. Hit it with the propane torch for 15 seconds or so until a flame appears. Let the flame burn out or blow out after a couple of minutes. Then put the tube in the grill. The end on the self doesnt get hot so it is easy to pick up.
I made a full rack of dam tasty ribs... this product is made extremely well. Works fantastic, and what I really liked was.
I have recommended to friends and would buy again.

DDuncan3 : Sturdy wood burner
Little smaller than it looks on website. Wood chips light easy but burn quicker. Wood pellets take forever to light, but burn longer. Needs to mix wood chips with pellets to sustain for longer cooking (>30 mins). Pretty sturdy. I lit the wood chips with a torch and it didn't warp or discolor. I probably won't need another one for a long while but I would purchase this product again.

Boughtt this tube smoker because it has flat edges and won’t roll around on the grill grates. It’s a tube smoker - no moving parts! Has hooks and a cleaning brush too. Good value for the price point.

Gave this a test run with nothing cooking just to see how long it would burn for. Got a great deal on Pit Boss Competition pellets at Walmart, $15 for 40 pounds, unheard of. Filled my tube and put a charcoal lighting tab in the top. fired it up, it took forever for the lighter tab to burn out, 20 minutes. From then on it was all pellet power. It burned for more than 4 hours and was pouring out smoke. a walk outside and the smell of a BBQ pit was in the air. i hung it in my gas grill with nothing in it and no burners lit. From my chair while watching football I could see waves of smoke coming from the grill. By itself, it brought the temp of the grill to over 100 degrees on a 48 degree day. Think I have finally figured out a way to get my gas vertical smoker to work at a low enough temperature to dry the casings on my sausages and kielbasa properly for the first hour of smoking. I am going to try to make some smoked cheese just using the pellet tube. i was really impressed with the amount of smoke and the length of the full tube burn. And the ability to bring heat to the picture also. The perfect combination. 4 hours of smoke is enough for most cooks because too much is not good as it can be overpowering on meats. During the winter I will be trying different amounts in the tube to see what the fill level I will use to smoke more delicate cuts of meats. A turkey breast will not need as much as a brisket or ribs. Going to make a chart for the burn times as I try different amounts in the tube. No longer will I be using wood chips in my smoker, they are so hit and miss with if they decide to give out any smoke at low temperatures. Most that I have used seem to be dumped without even getting to the smoldering stage. Going to have some fun experimenting with this product.

Works really well. I just put a little lighter fluid on the pellets to get it started and then hours of smoke. Sometimes I have to put it out.

I filled the tube with pellets, sprinkled some charcoal lighter fluid on the end pellets and lit it. I let it off the lighter fluid for a few minutes, then popped it into my smoker. It worked great!

I was trying to find something to be able to smoke cheese and this is the THANG! It does a great job of putting out smoke without the heat. I will be using this over and over and over. I did pepper jack, colby and cheddar without any issues. Great product for cold smoke

I filled the tube with pellets, sprinkled some charcoal lighter fluid on the end pellets and lit it. I let it off the lighter fluid for a few minutes, then popped it into my smoker. It worked great!

this tube did just what i wanted. Cooked a beer can chicken on my gas grill and it was like it came out of a smoker. You do not have to fill it all the way up depending on how long you need to cook.

Yep, easy to clean and easy to use except it does not work. You must have high heat in your smoker for this gadget to work. You do not smoke shoulders, hams or any other large cut of meat taking hours to cook at lot temperatures. Unless this item is directly over the fire, forget it!!!!! A piece of junk!!!

I bought this to use in my pellet smoker since I didn't feel that it smokes the meat enough. After the first use, I was amazed what a difference it makes. I filled it with mesquite chips and followed the lighting instructions and was amazed how much smoke it put out for at least 6 hours. Really made a difference

I love this. We had been buying smoked cheese from workmates and friends for $$$ for years, decided to try this. Cut up Cooper cheese, put this and the cheese int eh grill and let it smoke for about 2-3 hours. Excellent flavor, burned perfect, bought and used mixed pellets, easy cleanup. Best $20 I ever spent.

What can I say, it’s a metal tube that holds Burning wood. Ease-of-use is great, clean up not so easy, the taste is horrible, I tried chewing on the metal but it was tough had a burnt flavor just couldn’t get around that that’s why I only got one star on flavor.

I'm so pleased with this smoker. It allows me to cold smoke meat longer (up to 5 hours) without drying it out. Finnish it up with a short smoking session on my Traeger followed by the final cooking and viola~, perfection.

I purchased this to smoke cheese. You have to COLD smoke cheese so you purchase apple pellets, put them into this tube, light it and put it and your cheeses into you barbecue with the barbecue not lit for 3 to 4 hours. It does a fantastic job. If you look on the internet you can use this to COLD some whatever you want.
