Q:
Is there a way to handle delicate foods so they don't get crushed... like the pulse vacuum function?
Answer: You can immediately stop the vacuum process when vacuum packaging delicate foods. Press the SEAL Button at any time during the vacuum process to immediately stop the vacuum and begin sealing the bag. This prevents crushing delicate items such as bread, cookies and pastries.
Q:
Will this model handle 15 inch wide rolls?
Answer: Update. I just saw a longer roll model at Field and Stream store. Food Saver Titanium. About $500. It was nice and I might have selected it. http://www.foodsaver.com/vacuum-sealers/FSGSSL0800-DTCK2.html
Answer: This model Vacuum Sealer is designed to hold 8" and 11" rolls.
Answer: no it will go to 12-13 inch is a great machine I really like mine only had it for a week but use it alot
Answer: No...11 inches is it
Answer: No. 11.5" only.
Answer: Yes, it does.
Q:
How much would the food saver stick out if placed on a kitchen counter?
Answer: The FoodSaver is approximately 7.5 inches in depth and when plugged in around 8 inches. This would all vary depending on the depth of your kitchen counter.
Answer: From the wall its about 8 inches. If your plug is behind the Food Saver then add another inch.
Answer: Depth wise, it is smaller than a toaster oven.
Q:
is silver, the stainless steel?
Answer: Yes, the silver on this model is a stainless steel finish.
Answer: It's stainless, just like most appliances.
Answer: Yes
Q:
What is the difference between the 5860 and the V4880? Thanks.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Both models are 2 in 1 Vacuum Sealing Systems that combine both heat-seal and handheld vacuuming capabilities in one unit to give you more ways to seal and more ways to save. The V5860 model also dispenses and rewinds bag material from a roll then seals and cuts it to make a bag with just the press of a button simplifying making custom-sized bags.
Q:
What is included. Do the bags and rolls still come included as per the answer below.
Answer: I received the 8" and 11" rolls where you custom make your bags. Not full rolls but enough to get you started. I also received quart and gallon bags that you just seal the ends and 4-5 fresh save zipper bags. That is the one you use with the hand held vacuum hand held unit. The unit is very easy to use.
Q:
Does the sealer have a pulse mode?
Answer: Although this V5860 does not have the Pulse/Vac button, you can stop the vacuum-seal cycle by pressing the Seal button.
Answer: I assume your talking about a button or something that would allow you to "Pulse" the pump. It does not do that. It does have a "Seal and Cut" button that if you see some juice creeping up the bag towards the seal end you can mash the button, it will stop the pump and start the seal, even though it didn't quite completely get it all Sucked like it wanted. If that's not what your asking then please explain the "Pulse Mode" usage better.
Answer: There is a user's manual that comes with the FoodSaver. If it has a pulse mode, it will be described and will give instructions on how to use it. I am sorry, but I am not sure what is meant by "pulse mode."
Answer: Never heard of a pulse mode! Can you explain what it is?
Q:
does this have pulsevac?
Answer: No this V5860 does not come with a pulse vacuum feature. To stop the vacuum process at any time, simply select "seal now". Thanks!
Q:
Does this have a wine stopper like the older model? (takes air out of opened wine bottles to keep them fresh longer)
Answer: This vacuum sealer is compatible with the FoodSaver Bottle Stoppers, but they are not included in the starter kit that comes with this model. You can purchase the FoodSaver Bottle Stoppers separately by using the following link: http://www.amazon.com/FoodSaver-T03-0024-02-3-Pack-Bottle-Stoppers/dp/B0000CFPH9/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1455906393&sr=1-1&keywords=FoodSaver+Bottle+Stoppers
Answer: It has the adaptor built in to vacuum the bottles but you would have to buy the stoppers separately
Answer: Sorry don't know but if it's an attachment that you have that you but on the wine bottle and then hook the accessory cord to like the mason jars I believe it could. I'm not a wine drinker so I don't know for sure but the V4865 does
Answer: I am not sure because its broke up very quickly
Q:
Can you wall or undercounter mount it?
Answer: No, this vacuum sealer is not designed to be mounted on the wall or underneath a counter.
Answer: Not as it is, but don't let that stop you....it is still the best one that we have owned.
Q:
Does it hold 50 ft rolls
Answer: No can not hold 50ft rolls
Answer: No, the FoodSaver will hold up to a 20 foot FoodSaver heat seal roll.

Q:
I have the 5480 model and it has the pulse vacuum function. I don’t see that option on this one. Does anyone know if it has the pulse vacuum function?
Answer: Although this FoodSaver V5860 does not have the Pulse/Vac button, you still can enjoy the benefit of this feature by pressing the seal button.
Answer: It does not.
Q:
I have read many bad reports here from people who have bought this machine, does the insurance that I would buy actually cover a machine that quits?
Answer: I have never had to use the insurance. The machine works great. I guess that people simply expect everything to be as perfect as they are all the time!
Answer: I’m sorry that I don’t have an answer to that. Mine had been awesome for 1 year and 2 months. I don’t have insurance so I’m hoping that’s not an issue. If something goes wrong, I’ll contact the manufacturer. It’s a big company. *Usually* that means they stand behind their product.
Answer: My machine works fine. I haven't had to use the insurance. . Unfortunately I can't help you with this question. Good luck.
Answer: I had problems with it after a few weeks. I
Q:
marinating involves liquid- how does this work?
Answer: For best results we recommend using the FoodSaver quick marinator. When you're ready to marinate your meat, just press the marinate button on your FoodSaver and the vacuum sealer will do the rest. The FoodSaver will vacuum all the air out of the marinator and stop for 5 minutes releasing then the air back in. This cycle will be repeated 3 times. We hope this helps!
Answer: It works BEAUTIFULLY. You just have to buy the marinator bowl thing because it has a special valve on the lid that works with the attachment accessory so the suction automatically activates then releases and then activates and releases a few times so the food "breathes in" the marinade. Great results in a fraction of the time.
Answer: There's a control that will stop and seal.
Q:
what is the smallest in inch width bag roll it will use?
Answer: I believe it will use all wits any bags that you want to use you can use with this food saver
Q:
Buenas tardes, funciona a 220 V?, Gracias
Q:
How much volt is this?
Answer: A: All of our products that are sold in the United States and Canada are manufactured and UL approved for 110-120 voltage. We do not recommend the use of a converter, transformer or other electronic device with our product. Converting the electricity may compromise the functionality of the product.
Answer: 120V, A.C.,60Hz, 1.06 Amps, with a standard 110 electrical plug and outlet.
Answer: 120 volt.
Q:
I want to know if you already have this product with voltage of 220 volts?
Answer: No mine is 120V.
Q:
The description says it includes a "Marinator." Is that the square-shaped container for marinading shown in the video?
Answer: Hello!
Answer: Yes it is. In reality I don't think it is any better than tossing your food in a plastic container and letting it sit for the same amount of time - I think you can find some research online regarding the effectiveness. Also, as an aside, I would caution you to avoid this model - I have had it replaced 3 times. It is not worth the aggravation. If you are only sealing one or two bags it likely will hold up, but if you are using it to put up a lot of food for your freezer, I'd look for something more reliable, ideally with a cooling fan for the pump.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Yes, place your meat in there with the marinade and vacuum the air out until the indicator collapses.
Answer: Hello, this is Filip from FoodSaver Care. Thank you for contacting us regarding our FoodSaver FM5860. Yes, it is!
Answer: Yes and there is a marinating setting
Answer: Yes it is. Use it for quick marinating.
Answer: Yes. Fantastic FoodSaver
Answer: Yes and it works.
Answer: Yes.
Q:
What are the actual dimensions of this sealer? Not the cardboard packing box. The dimensions listed here differ from the foodsaver website.
Answer: The product dimensions for the Vacuum Sealer are: H11.00"x W24.50" x L10.50"
Q:
i just ask for how wide the sealing bar? it's about 2mm to 10mm. (11" it's the bag's wide. not ask for this)
Answer: It all depends on the model you have. After buying MANY expensive models that don't really work, I bought a cheap model FM3945 and the sealing strip is 12 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. I hope that helps.
Q:
Viene con las bolsas y el rollo de plastico
Answer: Sí, la máquina viene con bolsas y rollos como kit de inicio.
Q:
Is there a manual start for the vacuum sealing process or is it only automatic?
Answer: The vacuum is automatic. Once you place the bag in, the process automatically starts. If you are asking regarding the vacuum for containers, I never got to try that since it failed during my second use with bags.
Answer: The sealing of the bag is only automatic. I just threw my unit in the garbage, piece of junk and lousy customer service.
Answer: I have only seen an automatic start. I do love my foodsaver it looks good on the counter and I uses it more often with the bags it, more handy than dragging it out when you want to use it.
Answer: I believe there is only an automatic start to this, works great, constantly use this. Plus we order the bags with the valves on it, they work great for everyday items.
Answer: Yes, you can pause and restart the vacuum process.
Q:
Can I stick roll in there non precut size & roll out size I want to have cut to store meat in & then have it seal ? My other models did.
Answer: yes, the FoodSaver FSFSSL5860-DTC has a roll storage built in, so that you can dispense and make custom size bags.
Answer: Hi and thank you for your question. The innovative 5800 Series 2-In-1 Vacuum Sealing System with Automatic Bag, Dispense, Rewind, Cut & Seal offers the ultimate in food saving convince. Again, thank you.
Answer: Hi and thank you for your question. The innovative 5800 Series 2-In-1 Vacuum Sealing System with Automatic Bag, Dispense, Rewind, Cut & Seal offers the ultimate in food saving convince. Again, thank you.
Answer: Yes you can. There is a "cutter" button which, when pushed, will cut the roll and seal the cut end. So you can create bags sized as you need, length wise. The width, of course, is determined by the width of the roll inserted.
Answer: Yea... this model also offers a rewind feature to quickly make the size smaller if you dispense too much!
Answer: I do not mean to be rude but did you read any of the information about this unit or watch the provided videos?
Q:
Can you use this on foods already frozen? I just bought this and would like to take some of the frozen foods I have in my freezer and reseal them.
Answer: For best results, we recommend vacuum sealing your food when it's fresh, but you can seal your already frozen foods. It is difficult to predict how long foods will retain their top-quality flavor, appearance or texture because it depends on the age and condition of the food on the day it was vacuumed packaged.
Answer: I don't see why not however I don't think you would see as much of a benefit. You want them sealed fresh from the start to get the longevity.
Q:
Does this have the dry/moist sealing options? Does anyone with a unit with that option knows it works any better than the basic on/off vacuum?
Answer: This vacuum sealer does not have the dry/moist sealing option. The moist setting on some FoodSaver models allows the sealing strip to heat up for a bit longer to attempt to help seal with small amounts of moisture present. If the food inside the bag is too moist, the FoodSaver will be unable to properly pull a vacuum or complete the final seal. We do, however, advise pre-freezing all moist food items to achieve the best vacuum and seal when using any FoodSaver.
Q:
I have a piece of equipment I need to replace because the one I bought from you is defective please tell me who to call for help?
Answer: Contact Food Saver via phone. I'm still waiting to have an overcharge matter cleared. It's been months and still no results. So call them and make copies of all of your correspondence.
Q:
it come with any bags
Answer: The FoodSaver comes with a couple bags to allow you to use it and ensure that it is working correctly. Different retailers have different packages of bags with their FoodSavers so that they can price it according to their marketing audience.
Answer: I only use FoodSaver bags, I’ve never tried other ones. They are easy to get from the online FoodSaver app
Answer: It comes with samples of different bags including sample rolls.
Answer: It comes with some bags but is limited. It's best to order bags separate from the machine.
Answer: It came with 2 rolls of bags 1 small and one wider that you can cut to size. Then some other bags and a container for marinading
Answer: Just a few but rolls are cheap on Amazon or Wal-Mart. I love the machine though.
Q:
Does the used one's sold buy amazon warehouse deals include the 13 vacuum seal rolls, seal bags, and square marinator?
Answer: If you want extra stuff go to Food Savers. Com you can buy anything you want there myself I bought a brand new machine that I know of it works pretty much on everything and anything but the used ones that depends on how old they are and what not but like I said try Food Savers. Answer: Call Customer Service 1-877-777-8042.
Q:
Which is the retractable handheld sealer sold separately for this unit?
Answer: I don't understand the question. If, you're asking is the retractable handheld sealer sold separately for this unit, the answer is no. It's included. At least it was when I bought my unit in 2017. Be wary, however. My unit broke in January, 2020. With a 5 yr. manufacturer's warranty, no problem, right. WRONG! It's April and I'm still going through back flips with NutriChef Amazon was terrific in helping me (Mitzi was incredible!), even though I bought the machine so long ago. Machine is terrific. Amazon is terrific! NutriChef service SUCKS!
Answer: Hello, This is Salumu from Foodsaver care. Thank you for contacting us regarding the FM5860 Vacuum sealer Machine. There is no retractable handheld sealer sold separately for this model.
Q:
Is there a manual seal of like potatoe chip bags for the fsfssl5860-dtc model? i only see a seal button, doesn't that also vacuum?
Answer: I use the upper bag making section by opening it and placing the chip bag across the opening, closing the door, and pressing the seal button. Works well that way.
Answer: Although our vacuum sealing systems are designed to work with FoodSaver branded bags and rolls, you may heat-seal potato chips bags (Mylar bags) by pressing the seal button. The seal button will only activate the heat-seal cycle without vacuuming the air out of the bag.
Q:
How many consecutive seals can this machine handle?
Answer: Hello! The V5860 can do 6-8 repetitive seals before a cool down period. Thank you for your interest in our products!
Q:
What is the return policy?
Answer: Hi, if you ordered it from Amazon, check the Amazon policy first. Also check the documents with the item for warranty information or call the toll free number on the instruction pamphlet. Customer service department is very helpful as well, number is: 1-877-777-8042.
Q:
Can you reheat what you've sealed by boiling in the bag?
Answer: You can use FoodSaver heat-seal bags and rolls for sous vide cooking method with a temperature range of up to 185 F degrees, when sealed with FoodSaver brand vacuum sealing system.
Answer: Yes, you can absolutely reheat in the bag. That said, two points of caution... 1) make sure you use FoodSaver brand bags, which are guaranteed BPA free, 2) it is best to simmer, and slowly reheat within the bag, rather than boil.
Answer: I have without any problems!
Answer: I have
Answer: yes

Your ad says "Two to Three months delivery" ?????
Answer: got mine sooner
Q:
Tiempo de vida útil con relación al uso?
Q:
can this be used with the zipper bags or do I need to putchase the hand held device separately?
Answer: No. The FreshSaver® Handheld is designed to be used exclusively with the FoodSaver® Vacuum zipper bags and deli trays. The FoodSaver® bags require a heat seal and the FreshSaver® bags have a zipper seal so they are easy to get in and out of for everyday use.
Answer: Yes, this model has a built-in retractable handheld sealer which works with the vacuum zipper bags.
Q:
I want to seal food in glass pans. Do the food savers come in different sizes?
Answer: I get my bags from vacuum sealers in various sizes. Gallon, quart, and pint. All work great.

Answer: Yes
Q:
How do I take the outer shroud off? I need to repair the retractable hose.
Answer: I wouldn't suggest you do that, as it could void any warranty. However, if you're having issues, I would suggest you go through the troubleshooting steps in your owner's manual. And if that doesn't resolve your issue, your manual will give contact information for repair services with Foodsaver. If you no longer have your owner's manual, you can go to their website at https://www.foodsaver.com and select "support and faq."

how is it possible that most sites sell this sa me model for 300 bucks and amazon has it for 600 bucks???
Answer: I paid under 300 dollars for mine. This looks to be sold by a third party not by amazon itself.
Answer: I bought the FM5860 in January 2020 for around $260.00. I can't believe that they want more than twice today. Got to be a misprint.
Answer: I do not have the answer you are looking for, but both of the prices you ask about are too high.
Answer: Yeah well sometimes it is what it is , I didn’t pay that much
Product reviews of FoodSaver FM5860 Vacuum Sealer Machine with Express Bag Maker & Auto Bag Dispense and Rewind, Silver & 11" x 16' Vacuum Seal Roll | Make Custom-Sized BPA-Free Vacuum Sealer Bags | 3-Pack
Portland Customer : Junk
I couldn't be more disappointed in this machine. I have only had it for a few weeks, using it for mass production for my raw dog food business and it kept "jamming". The mechanism seemed to get hung up inside and it wouldn't seal, wouldn't cut the bag, and wouldn't vacuum. I would have to turn it on and off 30-40 times to get it to work and that worked only occationaly. The little retractable vacuum sealer thingy would have been cool if IT WORKED. Totally unreliable and junky piece of equipment. Will never, ever, ever, ever buy a FoodSaver again. Returning said hunk today. What a pain... But I still love you Amazon!
Djuna : Don’t buy this one
This is the second foodsaver I have purchased. The first one lasted like20 years, this one I purchased in march of 2019 and it hasn’t been a year and it has quit working it will not seal all the way. My first one I never had any issues with.I sure wouldn’t recommend this piece of crap. I spent almost 400.00 on it the first one I think we only paid like 35.00 what a difference. Now my return window and support window is gone with a broken machine. The company should make a better product and have a better support system.
Rae : Very Easy to use!
I really like this machine. I had one before but you have to buy the bags and it was a pain. This is super easy to use and does a nice job. I love how it dispenses the bag for you!
D. Carr : An excellent product
Started getting into the Foodsaver product line when the suction bags we otherwise had just weren't doing the job - and the suction wand my roommate brought in was full of corroding batteries. Got the one with the features I wanted, and now it sits on my kitchen counter ready to be used.
So far we've sealed up a few different things, and now things pack well into our freezer.
Operation is simple - push one button to get as much bag length as you need, another to reverse if you pull out too much, a third to seal and cut the bag so you can put something in. Put in your food and an optional oxygen scavenger, stick it in the bottom slot, and it voids and seals it for you. A separate hand held attachment allows one to use their resealable bags or the marinating container for quick marinating.
I haven't tried the marinating container yet, but we'll see how that goes when I decide to marinate some chicken or salmon or something.
All in all, very recommended from me. Five stars.
Kathy : This company will not honor warranty
We returned our defective sealer in June and they confirmed receipt. Unfortunately they stated that there were no units in stock. Believe it or not they offered us $40 for the sealer that we paid almost $400 for. When we declined they offered a unit that retailed for under $200. All we wanted was the same unit repaired or replaced just like the warranty guaranteed. We have waited patiently over 3 months for a new unit or our money refunded. For the past three weeks Food Saver has ignored our emails and now we are forced to file a complaint with the BBB and Attorney General. If they expect this to go away it simply won't. We hope Amazon will see this complaint and help leverage support but if they don't we will take this claim to a small claims court. With legal representation we plan to sue Food Saver for damages. We will attempt to cover the cost and time that it has and will take to resolve this issue. Food Saver makes a decent unit but if it fails be prepared to get the run around. Most people would just give up but we are seniors on a fixed income and this is more important to us then it is to most. I guess Food Saver just plays the odds and hopes that most people will give up. This is not the kind of company you will want to purchase from. Just check the BBB before you buy. We wish we would have.
Ulysses Everett McGill : It Sucks, Then Seals!!!
I’ve only had the machine for 2 weeks but so far, so good. Has all of the features I was looking for in a surprisingly compact and well thought out package. Yes, the $300 price tag was certainly a consideration and after significant use I have no regrets. I’ve found that when sealing bags with marinated meat that a couple of manual seals after the initial vacuum/seal operation easily displaces excess liquid and seals tightly. As with most processes with many variables, a little common sense will be a significant contributor to successful sucking and sealing. I really like preparing vacuum packed portioned meals for the fridge and freezer. I recently prepped and sealed a decent size marinated tri-tip for a 24 hour sous vide and it cooked perfectly with no leaks. The outboard vacuum accessory works great for storing leftovers in the fridge in suitable containers. Just buy the thing and USE it.
Amazon Customer : We are enjoying this unit - it more than meets our needs
We have longed for a food saver and this one was the Best of 2021. It also has the ability to use a roll (customize your bag size) for large sized items (like a roast, chicken) as well as the ability to use quart and gallon bags which are very convenient. We love the ability to "cryovac" our meats since we typically buy in bulk, portion out and freeze. This process takes away the potential for ice forming as well as allows for a longer freezing period. The bonus is the marinade feature, a nice "surprise" that with a storage container we have been able to marinade meats and vacuum seal them. The jury is still out if this makes the marinade deeper but we have the unit so we are using this feature. While a bit more than I had hoped to spend, I do not regret our purchase and it performing as expected and more.
Turbo : I’ve had this vacuum sealer since dec 4 th 2017 ...
I’ve had this vacuum sealer since dec 4 th 2017, used it very little so far. Today I went to use it and it shuts off ! Will not work at all !
Edwards : Easy to use, light weight, no problems so far
Super easy to use, has already saved me some money.
robert : love this thing
really impressed , 1rst time I have ever used the re-seal able vacuum bags , and they are great , open and re-seal swiss cheese , and it is as fresh as when you 1rst open it , auto seal when bag when pushed in eliminates negotiating bag to close lid ( makes it so easy) , and puts a very good vacuum on what ever you are bagging , dispensing is as easy as video shows, cutting is a bit loud , I would definitely recommend this
Family : Stuck with a hunk of junk
My Foodsaver is not working at all, less than 6 months after I bought it. Now my return window is closed. I literally waited 1 1/2 years for the price to go down, finally got my item & now I am stuck with this broken appliance. WTH am I supposed to do now?
TediW : Happy.
I had one of the first FoodSavers handed down to me by a friend many years ago. (I think she bought a newer model.) Since the one I received was plastic and two pieces, I stored it in a cabinet. This one I leave on display and love the way it functions. I haven't used the hand-held feature yet, so I can't really comment on that.
Amazon Customer : Highly DON'T Recommend
I have own too many Food Savor's through the years to count and this has to be the worst I've ever experienced!! Upon immediately receiving from Amazon I had to contact Food Savor because it would not seal and upon receiving a replacement I'm now six months contacting Food Savor again because my unit has quit working.
Evan Jones : I used this machine 2 times right after purchasing it ...
I used this machine 2 times right after purchasing it. Then a few months later I pulled it out to use it again and nothing. I will attempt to return it, we’ll see....
Sunny : BUY IT!!!
Best product that we have bought in a long time! Easy to learn. Vacuum seal bags (ziplock and not), mason jar accessory sealer, containers and quick pulse marinator....all fabulous and valuable additions that organize and extend food shelf life! We are having fun discovering all the ways to use this device. It is very gratifying to know that we are maximizing our food budget and improving the tastiness of our meals and being so organized to boot! It is true that the start up cost of the equipment and accessories are a bit steep but the investment will definitely pay off in short order in terms of minimizing waste and extending shelf life of food! Start up costs can be offset somewhat by monitoring prices and shopping sales and adding stuff overtime. We did follow the tip to put the machine in a prominent spot so it is easily accessible, which works wonderfully for us as we use it several times a day. Bear in mind that the machine is big though so placement can be an issue. We also added the separate small handheld sealer (under $20) which is very portable & makes resealing ziplockbags & canisters quick & easy. The mason jar (wide & regular mouth) sealer is amazing and really extends the utility of the system...leftover gravy, tomato sauce or sourkraut never so easy to store...without winding up with stained containers! And importantly, do checkout the alternative bag rolls , we found they work great and are a real cost saver! (Sadly there are no alternate ziplock bag or container choices that I am aware of so those remain pricey but can be reused ..... eg, put food open baggie then put in ziplock & seal.) Our only regret is that we didn’t buy one of these years ago!
Aaron : Hm... should I return it?
Here my honest opinion so far after a week of use.
Pro: - Easy to use - It gets the job done.
Con: - Overprice for what it does - weak suction power, it doesn't suck all the air out, probably 90% out. - So far I used it for a week, sometimes doesn't seal right, especially when the top of the bag is wet.
Conclusion: - I never had a food sealing machine, so this by far beat the zip lock bags. It does the job but not as good as I thought it would. I am going to use it for about 3 more weeks, if I keep getting incorrect seal I'll probably return it and buy the real deal expensive one (VacMaster VP215). If anybody considering buying a Foodsaver, you probably better off buying the $179 version.
Amazon Customer : Very Convenient
We have started using a Sous Vide and this has made storing and cooking a great deal earier.
Stacie : Big improvement over previous models
This is my third FoodSaver. The first two had issues but this one has fixed the problems I had with those. My previous issues were (1) the seal would be fine when I did it but would gradually lose cohesiveness in the freezer, and (2) even using a straight edge to cut the bags to make sure the edges were perfectly straight, they still wouldn't seal right. The way this model fixes those is that the sealing area is much wider than before, so you are assured of a good seal. I've had this one about a month and nothing in the freezer has lost integrity. Also I opened a frozen bag, took some stuff out, and put it in the reseal, and it's held. But here's the two things about this one: it has a nifty tool on a tube you pull out to vacuum seal containers, marinade dish, and the coolest invention ever, now they make ziplok-type bags you can vacuum-seal, then open the ziplok part, take some stuff out, close up the ziplok part, and re-vacuum. What a money saver on the bags. Be careful with the little pull-out things for vacuuming containers and ziplok-type bags -- you have to disconnect a piece for container sealing and it will break if you try to twist it. At least I think that contributed to it breaking the second time I used it, but the company replaced the machine with a new one, no problem. I really like this one.
Leilani Ng : I like the fact that it will auto dispense and pre-make ...
The only time you have to open it is to clean the drip tray or load a new roll of bags, I like the fact that it will auto dispense and pre-make all the bags. Press the dispense button and the bag advances out. If you've dispensed to much bag, press the rewind button. When you're ready, press seal & cut. All you have to do is fill it and slide it in the bottom to seal it. It senses the bag, vacuums out the air, then seals it. Releases the bag when it's done, no lifting the lid to align the bag and then shut it. We do a lot of bulk buying and storage, so I'm curious as to how long this machine will last.
s Toth : fails to remove air after a few uses even though its clean in new condition.
worked great for the first few times, I'm only here 6 weeks out of the year so not much use, but now it fails to take the air out before sealing. Had a cheap model before that still works better than this and is 20 years old.
angelique Laurent : Sealing
This machine is super easy to use however I have not owned it for one year yet and it will not seal bags. Very disappointed now I have to see if I can a new one sent
Family : Stuck with a hunk of junk

Baker Lady : Best Food Saver Ever
This is my third unit - I use them so much I burn them out. Despite that, I really agonized over the cost of this unit, but it had everything I wanted and some features that really made intrigued me. I am soooo happy with it. It is easy to use and just makes the whole process easy. I like to make my own bags, so I love the feature that allows you to dispense and rewind the wrap. Having the ability to just hit a button and have the mach8ne cut and seal the bag end is great. And no more guessing if I’m lining things up - the unit knows when things are right and just takes over. The suction is immediate and full strength, the hand vacuum to seal containers Is equally full strength (my only problem is breaking the seal when opening a container - the seal releases easily, but you really have to pry the cover off. I usually slip the tip of a knife in by the tab). Don’t let the price put you off - this unit is worth it.
Geetar Don : Used Far, Far More Often Than I Had Anticipated!
A couple of months ago we started cooking with a sous vide device and thus prepacking and freezing meats in a sous vide ready bag became a very desirable thing. The family member who'd made me aware of the sous vide cooking method, and who has become expert at it, suggested I look into a FoodSaver vacuum unit, pointing out that it would prove to be a very useful kitchen tool. And oh, were they right!
We took advantage of the excellent pricing for this unit here on Amazon, and have since built up a useful collection of tools, bags and food storage containers. The thought-to-be for occasional vacuum device is now used often several times a day.
Fresh baked goods, for instance, are cooled and sealed. Then the bag is resealed after portions have been used. The breads, rolls and pastry stay fresh tasting for days -- or if frozen, for considerably longer.
Sous vide prepared meats are sealed in a custom sized bag with the desired herbs, spices and flavorings.
Opened but unfinished wine bottles are re-corked with the air vacuum removed and stay good for days.
Left-overs are vacuum sealed and refrigerated, keeping their freshness and flavor.
This unit is beautifully designed. And unlike many other such devices it does a lot of the work for you at a push of a button. It also is attractive and takes up relatively little valuable counter space.
Very highly recommended!
Kevin T. Anderson : Doesn't vacuum seal
Stick a bag in to be vacuum sealed, click the appropriate buttons in the appropriate order.... and it just seals without vacuuming. Worked once or twice at the start, now it just doesn't. Outside return window because it's not a heavy use appliance. Super disappointed, feel ripped off.
SAR TP : FoodSaver Premium 2-In-1 Automatic Bag-Making...
I have one of the very first FoodSaver machines. I accidentally ripped a small portion of the rubber seal (which I repaired) but figured I better get a back up machine since I use it constantly. This new machine is large, but so wonderful. Having the handheld sealer built into the machine is such a time-saver since I use that type of bag besides the rolls. The 8" and 11" rolls lay inside the machine and dispense and seal automatically. Instead of having to press down on a lid to seal a bag, just slip it into the slot. The machine senses the bag, grabs it, vacuums it, and seals it. This was worth every penny - the best thing since sliced bread. I hope this machine lasts as long as my original machine, which is still going strong. I can't live without a FoodSaver. Amazon substantially beat the FoodSaver price.
jwillmott : When it worked it was great
If you do a lot of vacuum sealing it's great, but 6 months after purchasing it doesn't want to work. I have a big family so I seal everything. Now as time has gone on now it works when it wants to. I would have given, and continued to give it a 5 star rating if it still works.
T. Guymon : Now I can Seal the Spoilables Even Better than the Stores! Who knew??
Trying to find a way to keep from throwing out so much food--as a single individual I simply cannot eat it fast enough to consume the entire purchase before some of it turns on me--I started reading up on vacuum sealers. Reading reviews, I get the idea that the smaller, cheaper versions require a lot of patience and body-English for consistent success. Having gone grumbling through cheap purchases until I finally spent enough for a product I liked--as in cars, dehydrators, washing machines, refrigerators, etc.--I decided to go for the FoodSaver Premium 2-in-1. And, hey, I have no regrets! In other reviews I read about the machine not accepting the bag, requiring jiggling, forcing, threatening it with a gun, etc., but from my very first attempt with this thing, it closed on the bag, sucked out the air, sealed it, and look up at me with, "What? Is something wrong?" It does everything it's supposed to. And Experiment #1 worked--the salad veggies I buy in the plastic bags, the ones that end up as sludge at the bottom of the bag by the time I eat that far, when transferred to the FoodSaver bags and sucked airless, then sucked & sealed again after each portion removed--turned out to be as crisp at the very end as they were at the beginning! YES! This thing is going to save me some money! The best part is that sealing the entire purchase in a large bag means all I have to do is Re-suck & seal the bag each time, and the preservation goes on until the very end! No longer do I have to force myself to eat salad three meals a day because I'm afraid it will spoil! The maching has not given me a single problem. Okay, it IS loyal. Thinking in my usual Cheapo mode, I wondered if it would seal the filmy cellophane bag the salad originally comes in. Nope. It has standards. It wants the FoodSaver bags (or a reasonable 3rd-party facsimile). I think the supermarket cellophane is too filmy to trigger the suck & seal buttons inside, but whatever, a roll of bags will certainly not reduce my savings.
Brian : My second FoodSaver. Works perfectly and I used it almost daily.
I've had it a few months and have gone through a couple rolls of the bags. So far zero issues. Works as advertised. No problems with the intake working. One tip on that since this is my second FoodSaver - make sure the cut at the end of the bag is straight, you put the edge all the way in so it touches the back and don't force it or move around much. My other FoodSaver lasted 12 years and was still working when I gave it to a friend. I like the extra features like the rewind if you roll out too much and canister sealer. My only quibble - you have to have one on these reviews right - is the marinating canister. The claims of marinating in 20 minutes or whatever are not the case. There just isn't enough suction to do that and it will never compare to a good 8 hour marinade for a skirt steak as an example.
David : Food saver deficit second time.
I perches the food saver several months ago and it only worked properly for a week and all of a sudden it stopped so reached out the Company and they immediately replaced it with another one. Now I'm having the same issue with the second machine as I did with the first one, order for it to work u need to hit it several time for the vacuum to work it's so frustrating especially for my wife. Hope someone will reach out to take care of the problem. i think that particular model has a deficit as I read the test of the reviews.

Harold L Vaughn : Find out how Great this unit is Spend the Bucks!
I tried 2 other models before I talked myself into spending the money for this unit. There's hardly a day goes by that I don't use this machine. So throw away your scissors and your ruler and find out how convenient this unit is. I wish I didnt go cheap and invested in this unit from the start.
Just Jim : If yours repeatedly fails to sense the bag, don't hesitate -- replace it!
I just want to offer my observation after using this item for a couple of weeks. All but one of the functions work well. Sadly, the function that works poorly is the one that seals the bag. It is so frustrating for me and members of my family to push a bag into the sealing slot and have nothing happen. Pulling the bag out and reinserting it sometimes helps. Turning the bag over sometimes helps. What does it take to trip the bag sensor, I wonder? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The inconsistency in operation is the most aggravating part.
And, yes, I've read the manual (several times). I leave a very generous amount of bag to feed into the sealer. I am using genuine Foodsaver bags. I hold the bag as suggested and push it into the slot and push and push and nothing happens. I can push the bag in until it can go no further without wadding up. Still, the machine will not clamp onto the bag and seal it with any reliability. I am not the only one who has this problem. Because of this I am only rating this as two stars. It is very frustrating. I bought the top of the line to have no problems, instead the main function, sealing, is compromised in this model. I should have bought the much cheaper clam shell model that allows positioning the bag and closing the unit to seal.
I am considering returning this expensive model because the frustration it causes completely outweighs the benefits of its fancy features. **** Update Sept 2015
I returned my FoodSaver for a replacement. The replacement works correctly! Now, it is a pleasure to use and not frustrating at all. I realize that my initial review was the result of a fluke, specifically, a defective unit. However, the entire experience has left me with a bad vibe about this product not to mention a whole lot of wasted product. That's why I'm leaving it a two stars. So, if yours is working as mine was, don't waste time fiddling with it and trying all sorts of innovative techniques to try and make it work. When it works correctly it senses the bag on the first try, even raggedly cut bags, and seals them just fine. I wish I had returned mine sooner and saved myself a lot of frustration.

Rick : Doesn't seal when wet
Won't seal unless liquid or some meats are frozen first. When using rolls, you have to use a lot extra to have enough bag to trigger the vacuum function.
Clint G : FoodSaver, more like $$$ $aver!
probably the best of all the kitchen appliances... if not, its the only one that will save you money. since getting this and the FoodSaver deli containers we haven't thrown out a single slice of deli meat!
PROS -saves food -works with other foodsaver plastic containers -dispenses and cuts bags to length -comes with a marinating container for quickly marinating meat before you cook it -takes very little space fits right under the counter and i stack the empty deli containers on top -automatically shuts off
CONS -its a little loud even when dispensing and cutting, the vacuum sounds as loud as you would think -you can seal potato chip bags, takes a little to get it to recognize the bag is in and sometimes wont get the air out right away but thats an added extra, its fine that its not 100% compatible with random chip bag plastics

S. H. Wells : A Meal Preppers Must-Have
I was a little skeptical about how much "savings" this kitchen gadget could produce since the bags are expensive, but with a little experimenting I have grown to love this vacuum sealer. It is essential to my meal prep routine and produces fantastic results.
A few tips that I learned through trial and error:
1) Juicy Food!
If you make juicy food like a big juicy chicken breast, the juice can interfere with the seal. As the machine pulls the air out, liquid also goes up the machine. There is a little catch for juice overflow (the tray is dishwasher safe and very convenient), but the machine works by heating the bag to seal it. Too much juice doesn't allow the heat to seal.
The solution is very simple: freeze the food first. I place my soups, stews, chicken, etc in the bag and use a chip clip to hold it closed. I then carefully place the bags in the freezer so they stay upright and let them freeze. Soups and stews need to frozen before vacuum sealing. Chicken breasts just need a 15-20 minutes.
2) Bags
Unfortunately the FoodSaver bags are little expensive. However I use other bags I've found on Amazon without issue. Certain FoodSaver brand bags are also part of the "subscribe and save" program on Amazon which also saves money. See:
If you cut the bags straight across when you open them, they can be reused. I don't trust washing out bags that have been used with meats, but reusing bags works for dehydrated fruits and home made chips.
3) Containers
Don't skip on the containers. The FoodSaver 3, 5, and 8 cup containers are the best. I use them for leftovers that will be eaten soon and save the bags for things that will be stored longer. See:
4) Meal Prep
The machine is worth its weight in gold because I can make a week's worth of fresh vegetables and meat, vacuum seal them, and open them through the week. When I'm tired on a Wednesday and would've normally ordered Pizza or something, I have meals ready. The vegetables are as fresh on Friday as they were the day I cut them a week earlier. I have been much more successful at sticking to my eating plan with meals that I prepped on Sunday. I use the little bags (8") for lunches and the big bags (11") for dinner.
Anyways, I love the machine. It has helped me stay healthy with home cooked meals!
Family : Stuck with a hunk of junk
My Foodsaver is not working at all, less than 6 months after I bought it. Now my return window is closed. I literally waited 1 1/2 years for the price to go down, finally got my item & now I am stuck with this broken appliance. WTH am I supposed to do now?
s Toth : fails to remove air after a few uses even though its clean in new condition.
worked great for the first few times, I'm only here 6 weeks out of the year so not much use, but now it fails to take the air out before sealing. Had a cheap model before that still works better than this and is 20 years old.
miker : Lasted a little less than 3 yr
I purchased this device on 13 November 2016. It gave it up on 24 September 2019. The sliding cutter, which makes the new bag failed to cut completely across the bag material. It had binded up several months ago, but a tap on the inside released the cutter. There were also failures to completely evacuate the bag after several operations.
Not worth the cost and NOT Recommended
Claudia O : So far so good! Got this for my boyfriend's birthday
So far so good! Got this for my boyfriend's birthday. He uses this sous vide techniques to cook meats to perfection and this vacuum sealer it's been making his life easier. Plus we use it to seal any snack bags. Haven't yet tasted marinating anything but the science behind it makes much sense. Easy and convenient. If it lasts I will be a satisfied customer :-)
ZJD : Great when it works... though it mostly doesn't.
Bought this sealer to prepare and freeze meals for my family.
Machine is temperamental and inconsistent - one bag will seal perfectly, another right after with the same stuff in it won't leaving pockets of air that cause freezer burn.
Using the accessory attachment with FoodSaver containers is also hit-or-miss - one really needs to apply a LOT of pressure to the lid in order to have any chance to seal.
Finally, 6 months in - the unit just quit on me. Power light comes on but nothing else works. Called the support line to avail of the 1-year warranty, and nothing but long hold times (1+ hr), lots of scripted answers, and a very convoluted process to get a replacement.
Great idea. Good product when it works. Only it mostly doesn't.
Lostalien : Dead after a few weeks
Dead after a few weeks. Used it a few times and then now when I power it on, it makes a little noise and then turns itself off after 10 seconds. Won't stay on long enough to seal/cut or vacuum anything. Amazon is sending a replacement, but I'm worried the replacement will die and then I'll be outside my return window.
Also, from reading other reviews left recently, I'm seeing that I'm not the only one with the same issue.
We do a lot of bulk buying and storage, so I'm curious as to how long this machine will last.
katiegirl : Amazing little machine! You’ll vacuum seal everything & save $ on your food!
Just go ahead & jump in. This machine is awesome, you can marinate food in 10 min. not 24 hrs! it makes your bread last longer, chips, crackers, any left overs in your frig., any food you freeze! We vacuum seal EVERYTHING! It’s already paid for it’s self just simply making bread & chips stay fresh longer at my house! Not counting leftovers! UTube has great videos 2 help you discover all the ways you can use this cool machine!
JOEL & Sandy S : New unit spoiled me!
I've only used my new Food Saver for 2 weeks now but I have to admit that I am now spoiled as it is so easy to use. Works great and a lot less waste of plastic bag material. Best unit yet from Food Saver!
Rick : Doesn't seal when wet
Won't seal unless liquid or some meats are frozen first. When using rolls, you have to use a lot extra to have enough bag to trigger the vacuum function.
Amw : Overall, I like it and use it
I like being able to pack my food air tight and it does an OK job of that. It does suck up moisture from the food causing it not to seal as well. This was the most common drawback of all the sealers in the reviews I read. This sealer had the most favorable comments pertaining to moist food sealing. Overall, I like it and use it but this is the only one I've tried so I don't know firsthand how it compares with other units.
jdewesee : I love my food saver
I have had several food savers over the years and each one works as good or better than the one before. I use the food saver for everything I freeze, ground beef, sausage and left overs.. Great item.
you can compare the product price from Costco, wayfair, bestbuy, lowes, target, homedepot, Walmart, ebay, amazon to find the best price for you
