Answer: You can write directly on the bag with a marker, no problem at all, but don't bump or wipe after writing, just wait for the ink to dry!

Answer: There is not a tab to write on. You can however, use a sharpie marker to write in it.

I got these vacuum bags largely for cooking beef and pork in a sous vide bath (as well as storing them in the freezer prior to cooking). I found that they worked very well in the sous vide and that they were thick enough so that bones or other sharp edges from vacuum-sealed food didn't poke holes through them. There was no leaking during the sous vide and most of the cooking aroma was contained.

In terms of how well they worked with my vacuum sealer, I cut my bags as small as possible so I did have to go to some efforts to flatten the tops out (as any gaps or folds stop a seal from happening), but they worked fine even when I cut the bags very short.

One thing which is different about these compared to other budget bags is that there is a box included with a cutter. I have a cutter on my vacuum sealer, but this made it easier to size them outside of the machine. For times when I want a number of bags that are all the same size, I found using the box with cutter to be easier to use since I could measure them against a flat surface rather than along the vacuum sealers sealing mechanism. As budget bags go, I was very satisfied with these.
