Questions about Weber 22510201 SmokeFire EX4 (2nd Gen) Wood Fired Pellet Grill, Black
Q:
What prevents the ash from dropping into the grease compartment?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I added a photo of the drip tray in my review (Gilroy, CA). Might take a day or two to post up. Basically there will be some ash that falls in the grease section of the catch pan, but mostly the ash falls in the front portion of the pull out drawer whereas the grease is captured in the drip pan with optional foil liner. I haven't had any issues with ash build up in the grease catcher.
Q:
Does this come with the new weber insert for the hopper?
Answer: This is the gen two and yes there is an insert installed in the hopper.
Q:
Can you fit two briskets in this?
Answer: Yes I think 2 15 lbs if organized correctly but be prepared to deep clean it after your are done. Do not use it again till after you clean it or you will definitely have a fire.
Q:
What country is the Weber pellet grill made
Answer: It’s American made with parts from around the globe.
Answer: USA
Q:
Can it be used without the weber app?
Answer: We found you had to set it up originally with an app, but can be used without after it is set up.
Answer: Yes — app just makes remote operation easy
Answer: Yes. It has the screen and the buttons for that.
Answer: Yes but do yourself a favor and do not buy
Q:
Does this unit need 110 power?
Answer: Hi! This is an electric pellet grill. The power cord is 8 feet long. It does require an outlet near by. Hopefully this helps. Thank you!
Answer: Yes this unit requires electricity.
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is this an actual *gen 2* smokefire ex4 from weber, or just the original without the upgrades and fixes?
Answer: The one I received was the 2nd gen.
Q:
Is it easy to remove unused pellets from the hopper?
Answer: It's really easy to dump the pellets out the chute back into a bucket underneath.
Answer: Yes, it's easy to remove the unspent pellets from the hopper. There is a pull out lever on the back of the unit that allows them to drop freely from the bottom. Beware! Make sure you have a bucket or other vessel handy to capture them. I edited my original review today and added a photo of said lever. From Gilroy, CA
Answer: Yes. There’s a shoot under the hopper to remove unused pellets. I tried it but realistically I just add as needed and never remove the unused pellets.
Answer: Yes. Place a bucket under the hopper chute and manually pull a slide open.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is it also supports 220--230v?
Answer: Yes - I use it with a standard 220 v on the deck of my cabin. No problems. Also confirmed in the owner’s manual.
Answer: I don’t think so — the receptacle for power only appears to support 110V — maybe you could order from factory with that voltage
Answer: Don't think so. comes with a 110 volt plug attached.
Q:
Will this hold a turkey? Two?
Answer: It definitely holds a turkey! We did one a week or so ago and it was so delish (: I think it would hold two turkeys. We’ve done two chickens at once, and we were considering doing both a ham and a turkey for Easter and my husband was confident they would both fit.
Q:
What are the shipping box dimensions/weight?
Answer: The package weighed ~170#, I was able to put it on a furniture dolly and move it myself to the back patio.
Q:
Can "expert assembly" be ordered separately from the original purchase?
Answer: It looks like the only way to get "expert assembly" is once the grill is in your cart and you select a shipping address then you can pick a date for assembly.
Answer: Great question! We encourage you to contact Amazon support for this. Thanks!
Q:
Does this grill have stainless steel grates?
Answer: Thanks for your question! This unit can be used with stainless steel item number 7638. Thanks!
Answer: Yes it does
Q:
How long is the electrical cord?
Answer: About 5 feet.
Q:
How far away from your house or wood deck frames does the grill have to be placed? How much external heat does it generate?
Answer: The manual states "Warning, do not use this grill within two feet of combustible material". I'm usually about 4 feet away from the house and pergola post. I'm mostly goofing around when I place the orange safety cone where the cord is, but it is a tripping hazard. The external heat is hot enough that a toddler could be seriously injured if they touched it. There's a caution for that as well. The entire manual is online at Weber.
Answer: It gives off the same amount of heat that a gas grill would. Weber manual suggests a 2ft air gap between house or deck rails.
Answer: Heat would not be the problem it’s the smoke so I moved it 10 feet away. If I had to do it over again I would not buy.
Answer: We recommend 24 inches of clearance on all sides from any combustible material. Thanks for that great question!
Q:
What type of extension cord do I need for the smokefire ex 4
Answer: Medium or heavy duty outdoor cord
Q:
Where is it made?
Answer: Doesn’t matter don’t buy it got the latest version still not ready for regular time much less prime time. DO NOT BUY
Answer: in US with US and globally sourced parts.
Q:
What are the Smokefire 2nd generation improvements?
Answer: The first generation problems have been addressed. I have had no problems with frequent use over the last 6 months. My recommendation is to clean the fire pit and the igniter before every use.
Q:
What is the warranty
Answer: Hello! Thank you for your question! The cooking grates, pellet slide, burn pot, heat baffle, pellet grate, controller bezel carry a 3 year warranty. A 3 year warranty backs the Electrical components and the cookbox and all components not mentioned carry a 5 year warranty. Thanks!
Q:
Anyone with cooking surface dimensions? Not square inches?
Answer: Hi! The cooking surface is 17.3''x23.6''. Hopefully this helps.
Answer: The upper shelf dimensions are 11" deep and 22.5" wide. The lower grill area is 17" deep and just under 24" wide. The upper shelf sits on a rail so I didn't measure that as being available grill space although you could set food resting on it. I don't prefer to overlap on the shelf rails.
Answer: about 29"x 20" but you also have a upper and lower rack. please trust me when I say you want to buy this grill , it cooks food way better than the other smokers i have had 3 now, and this buy far is the top of the line, you wont be dissapointed !
Answer: It's posted on the Weber site - 18X24".

Product reviews of Weber 22510201 SmokeFire EX4 (2nd Gen) Wood Fired Pellet Grill, Black
Dinosaurs and Mermaids, mom of both : So many food possibilities, always amazing flavor
With being a grill and a smoker, the possibilities are endless. We have already done several different things with already this fall/winter, but I really cannot wait until summer time. I liked using the app to get it set up better than the instructions that were included. I think it took us about 1.5 hours between my husband and I to get it together. It cooks evenly, however I have noticed that the temperature reading is a little off (which I've been able to Guage since). Make sure your software is always up-to-date before using.
Jason Stoddard : Second generation still garbage
Failed 4 times in two cooks to come up to temp. Will not come up to temp when starting without adding pellets by hand, even though the auger is clearly delivering pellets to the chamber. Randomly loses temperature in the middle of cooking as well and has to be restarted. Have yet to have an actual cook go well. This is on top of perhaps the worst designed assembly process in the known universe. Horrible, horrible product.
Scott Pennington : Heavy duty smoker that cook faster & better than gas.
Love the programmable features here. I pick the meat and auto sets up the temp, flip, core temp. The heat off this thing wow. Solid build the door is heavy duty. And the flavor it adds is so worth it. Now you Can’t start it remote and I go through a bin every 8 hrs of use. Took some time to assemble but not hard. Once in shutdown mode you can’t restart for 15mins. But look it’s a premium product at a premium price.

john botts : Best eating
I LOVE IT! We have to improvise cooking times because we don’t have much to put on it, but the smoker feature makes up for any inconvenience of cooking. After smoking it goes to cryovak and then freezer. We just defrost and warm it up. Best food ever tasted, and so tender it falls off the bone. We are experimenting with veggies now.
TecRat : Customer Service gets 5 stars
I bought this in early July and have been eating great grilled and smoked food since. I took a star off because the fan blows too hard and i get ash on the food during high heat grilling. It does a wonderful job on everything I've cooked so far. The wifi works great but the program in not sophisticated and doesn't allow you to program your cooks your way.
During assembly I found they packed the wrong rear leg wheels. They wouldn't screw all the way in. I called customer service and they promptly sent me the right wheels and new legs as I may have damaged them trying to screw in the wrong wheels. For my aggravation they also sent me the 2 shelves and a bag of pellets. FREE. That's 5 star service!

Barbara Cherry : Worked as stated
it is easy to use - Like the ability to view from inside of home
Nick H : Definitely a pellet grill worth your consideration.
I have had this grill for about a week so far. The assembly was a piece of cake and included excellent instructions to guide me through it. The assembly took about an hour and a half. Like others mentioned it does require some firmware updates upon starting up so I got those going and then let it do its thing while I cleaned up the boxes and such. I have used it half a dozen times so far and all seems good. Based on other reviews I have also been paying attention to find the hot/cool spots on the grill. Having done that it is just a matter of moving things around if adjustments are needed.
Andy Putman : Disappointing
I bought the smokefire last year with high hopes. Unfortunately, I’ve had continuous issues including replacing the auger, motor, and hopper. This appears to be common among many owners of the product. I am also frustrated at the lack of consistency with the grill. When it works, it’s great. But it far too often does not start correctly or will flame out in the middle of cooking. I have great respect for Weber but I’m writing a negative review because this product did not meet their standards.
Trent Upton : Why all the negative reviews?
Despite all the negative reviews across the internet about this product, I bought one. I’ve had no issues so far and have used it multiple times and for 12+ hour long cooks. Keep it clean, don’t store pellets in the hopper, and keep the software updated. Great product and I know that Weber will stand behind their product if any issues do eventually arise.
Jeff : Couldn’t tell you how it cooks
This is a response I sent to Weber out this grill.
Good morning,
I ordered I smoke fire ex4 from Amazon.
The first one came last Saturday and the folks that were to install it could not screw in the rear non locking casters into the legs. Subsequently Amazon sent another one out today. It also had the exact same problem as the first one. The non locking wheels would not screw in. I contacted Weber support while the installers were here and they said the only thing they can do is send out another set of legs.
I declined this because apparently your having a manufacturing issue.
I’m shocked this is the case since I have had Weber products for years and they always has been great.
I would still like one but is 3rd time the charm?
I await your response.
Thanks
Stanley P. Thurston : Doesn’t work
The igniter failed when first started. The second igniter failed in the middle of the smoking. The system does not work
Amazon Customer : Grill and smoker combo
Grills like a Weber and smokes like a treager. Great combo grill and smoker. I love it. Smoked an awesome pork today and will be grilling burgers tomorrow.
Javier F. : 1 st gen smoker working great
Smokefire ex4 first generation and so far so good . All problems I had were similar to what others have mentioned but it seems that for me it was operator error. After the initial burn off I cooked 2 beer can chickens and 12 country pork chops and they were amazing. I find that it does better with weber pellets . Traeger pellets are a big bigger and you can hear it struggling to push the pellets through. I took all the grates and flavor bars to clean it . I then couldn’t get it to maintain heat. Numerous error codes . I went back to watch a video on YouTube on assembly and realized the glow plug was sitting under the grate and it needed to be in through the hole . I included a pic . Problem solved

Anime, Manga and Harlequin Romance Girl : Very excited!
Very excited to use the Weber Wood Fired Pellet Grill. My husband was even more excited because he obviously knows the name brand Weber. This is our first pellet wood grill and this seems huge. I will update my findings and observations but first gotta get some pellets!
Charles Ciggia : I'll wait for the 3rd generation.
This smoker dumps the grease, drippings, or anything else that falls off meat or veggies, right on the the porcelain bottom. This will probably cause the bottom to rot out eventually. Most smokers I've seen have some sort of shield at the bottom to protect against this. The design of the grill is different then no other pellet grill as far as using stainless tents. I'm not sold on this as Weber has tried to re-engineer the pellet grill, but this design is not conventional for a pellet smoker/grill, and they have taken a chance here. The open flame design caused way to many flare-ups so I returned it.
