Basically there will be some ash that falls in the grease section of the catch pan, but mostly the ash falls in the front portion of the pull out drawer whereas the grease is captured in the drip pan with optional foil liner. I haven't had any issues with ash build up in the grease catcher.

Answer: The manual states "Warning, do not use this grill within two feet of combustible material". I'm usually about 4 feet away from the house and pergola post. I'm mostly goofing around when I place the orange safety cone where the cord is, but it is a tripping hazard. The external heat is hot enough that a toddler could be seriously injured if they touched it. There's a caution for that as well. The entire manual is online at Weber.
Answer: It gives off the same amount of heat that a gas grill would. Weber manual suggests a 2ft air gap between house or deck rails.

Answer: The upper shelf dimensions are 11" deep and 22.5" wide. The lower grill area is 17" deep and just under 24" wide. The upper shelf sits on a rail so I didn't measure that as being available grill space although you could set food resting on it. I don't prefer to overlap on the shelf rails.

Based on my experience, If you want great 24 hour customer service and a dependable smoker, buy a Traeger. If you buy a SmokeFire, you’ll probably regret it or maybe you’ll get lucky. I don’t trust luck when I’m smoking a 21lb. Brisket, I want dependability. Weber makes magnificent charcoal and gas grills but failed miserably at building a dependable smoker. If you buy a SmokeFire, make sure you have backup grill.

I bought this in early July and have been eating great grilled and smoked food since. I took a star off because the fan blows too hard and i get ash on the food during high heat grilling. It does a wonderful job on everything I've cooked so far. The wifi works great but the program in not sophisticated and doesn't allow you to program your cooks your way.
During assembly I found they packed the wrong rear leg wheels. They wouldn't screw all the way in. I called customer service and they promptly sent me the right wheels and new legs as I may have damaged them trying to screw in the wrong wheels. For my aggravation they also sent me the 2 shelves and a bag of pellets. FREE. That's 5 star service!

Took a chance on the 2nd gen smoke fire after hearing the issues with the 1st gen.
Weber listened and they put out a great product with 2nd gen Weber smoke fire.
I have had camp chefs which I like and traegars and the Weber smokefire is by far my favorite.
Heats up very fast, it’s not even close to others and cooking at up to 600 degrees is awesome for searing and grilling.
One of our favorites to cook are pizzas, you have to try it out, works great.
If I had to put a con in here it would be that this thing rips through pellets. Which makes sense for high heat and I wish hopper was bigger.
Other than that. Great temp control, smoke boost is a nice feature. Having 4 meat probes is great and of course the Weber app is pretty great to keep an eye on long smokes while being able to step away.

I haven't had any problems with the app that other people are experiencing (using a new iPhone 12 Pro). Updating firmware DID take 25 minutes. That was a pain.
Setup takes about 1-2 hours depending on how good you are with instructions.
My paint arrived chipped in 2 different places, and they don't include any touch-up paint for this. Hoping it doesn't rust.
Temperature control is awesome, but maybe a bit inaccurate. My steaks showed as 135 in the center, but came out super raw, so I had to put them back for another 5 minutes.
The wood pellet "hopper" is nice and efficient. I like that the app notifies you when it starts getting low on pellets.
It produces a great end-product. I used Traeger pellets from Costco ($20 for a 33lbs bag) and it was seriously one of the best steaks I've ever made. Fantastic sear at 500 degrees. Can't wait to do a long smoke with it, but I know it will be a winner also.

When I started looking for pellet smokers I learned that Weber had a model. I am a loyal Weber owner of a kettle and Smokey mountain and was amazed to see how well priced the SmokeFire was… the grill was easy to assemble (use the built app) and only took about an hour.
My first few smokes with chicken and fish were amazing and then I smoked some pork shoulder overnight for some friends and blew everyone away.
The ability to control the cooking temperature and know the temp of my food at all times on my phone is a great selling point. I love that it takes 4 food probes too.
Only minor complaint is my grill lid isn’t exactly flush when I close the lid and it takes a little extra push to get it there. There is probably a minor adjustment I could do but I haven’t looked yet.
I know there was a redesign from Gen1 to Gen2. It looks like everything is great to me. So far I’ve only used Weber pellets. I wish I could find them at more stores.

I've had pellet grills for the last 15+ years from another major brand and when I saw the Weber SmokeFire, I was excited about getting a next-generation grill that included everything that has been learned from other pellet grills over the years.
Looking at the features of the grill, I was really impressed. The wifi & Bluetooth controller with 4 built-in slots for thermometers seemed great. The build quality of the grill itself seemed really great with thick metal.
I was also impressed with some of the little ideas like the chute that the pellets slide down instead of a horizontal pellet path that can allow pellets to burn before their time. The variable speed fan is a good addition. I also really like the integrated grease drip tray and ash collector in the bottom. I thought this would make the occasional cleaning of the grill a breeze. Something we rarely did with our previous grills.
There are a few nuances of the grill that are annoying. I find the pellet hopper location in the back of the grill difficult to get to at times and the fact that it doesn't hold a whole bag of pellets unfortunate.
I have a larger 2nd generation Ex6 that seemed to be nothing but trouble, from the beginning, I think what I've learned (like removing the guard where the pellets go into the auger) and some of the software updates have paid off to make this one more reliable for us. We ordered it primarily for burgers and aren't doing lots of long cooks so that may be a factor too.
There have been a few software/firmware updates that seem to have smoothed things out. FYI, there are a few things to update, the iPhone app, the grill controller firmware, and the grill controller software all might need to be updated. You'll want to check all 3. This grill makes amazing food. When everything goes smoothly it is fantastic. The level of smoke that comes from the SmokeBoost feature is great. It is nice to be able to start out some cooks with a little extra smoke. Take and Bake pizza is one of our favorites.
The fact that the grill goes to higher temperatures it is great for searing steaks and cooking burgers. I've found that even at higher temperatures the grill does a great job of giving a solid smoke flavor that I've not seen from other pellet grills I've owned.
There are still some nuances with the grill that I find a little funky and I'm hoping will be resolved in time. One annoyance is that you can't seem to get all the information from one place. When you are using some of the built-in cook programs, you'll be able to see the time but not the temperature. I generally will use one with the programed cook which will show time and a second in the same piece of meat that shows the temperature. I LOVE IT! We have to improvise cooking times because we don’t have much to put on it, but the smoker feature makes up for any inconvenience of cooking. After smoking it goes to cryovak and then freezer. We just defrost and warm it up. Best food ever tasted, and so tender it falls off the bone. We are experimenting with veggies now.

I’m a grill snob and was admittedly skeptical based on Gen 1 reviews. Have had this grill for 4 months now, use it multiple times per week and have not had a single issue. I use it to sear steaks at 600, smoke briskets at 250 and get the same consistent results. Very, very pleasantly surprised. Didn’t plan to get rid of my traeger, my propane grill or my smoker but this legit covers for all 3.

Smokefire ex4 first generation and so far so good . All problems I had were similar to what others have mentioned but it seems that for me it was operator error. After the initial burn off I cooked 2 beer can chickens and 12 country pork chops and they were amazing. I find that it does better with weber pellets . Traeger pellets are a big bigger and you can hear it struggling to push the pellets through. I took all the grates and flavor bars to clean it . I then couldn’t get it to maintain heat. Numerous error codes . I went back to watch a video on YouTube on assembly and realized the glow plug was sitting under the grate and it needed to be in through the hole . I included a pic . Problem solved

I have had this grill for about a week so far. The assembly was a piece of cake and included excellent instructions to guide me through it. The assembly took about an hour and a half. Like others mentioned it does require some firmware updates upon starting up so I got those going and then let it do its thing while I cleaned up the boxes and such. I have used it half a dozen times so far and all seems good. Based on other reviews I have also been paying attention to find the hot/cool spots on the grill. Having done that it is just a matter of moving things around if adjustments are needed.

I've had this grill for about 4 months and I'm using it multiple times a week.
This thing is great for grilling and smoking! I've done pulled pork, lots of ribs, a whole turkey, beer can chicken and everything came out tasty. Trying my first brisket next weekend :)
Also to grill, just crank it up to 500 (takes ~15 minutes to heat up) and throw on some burgers and/or steak and they come out great. As other people may have noticed, the heat can be a little uneven, usually it's hotter on the right side but that means I can put the stuff I want well done on the right and the medium rare on the left.
Temperature monitoring is easy with the 2 probes, so you can even check temps when away from the house.
Granny : More than I expected
I love all things Weber. I have a kettle grill. It’s my fifth one. It’s always upgrades. This is an upgrade. It’s difficult to keep the kettle going during the snowstorm so I wanted an option. I believe this will work. It’s not sold for that reason but I’m going to try. Otherwise this smoker grill is great. It cooks fast when used as a grill. You will have to get your groove for that. As a smoker it is right with the recipe times. I recommend this model. It’s spacious so if you have a medium size household everyone eats together.
Webb : Amazing Smoked Food.
I've had pellet grills for the last 15+ years from another major brand and when I saw the Weber SmokeFire, I was excited about getting a next-generation grill that included everything that has been learned from other pellet grills over the years.
Looking at the features of the grill, I was really impressed. The wifi & Bluetooth controller with 4 built-in slots for thermometers seemed great. The build quality of the grill itself seemed really great with thick metal.
I was also impressed with some of the little ideas like the chute that the pellets slide down instead of a horizontal pellet path that can allow pellets to burn before their time. The variable speed fan is a good addition. I also really like the integrated grease drip tray and ash collector in the bottom. I thought this would make the occasional cleaning of the grill a breeze. Something we rarely did with our previous grills.
There are a few nuances of the grill that are annoying. I find the pellet hopper location in the back of the grill difficult to get to at times and the fact that it doesn't hold a whole bag of pellets unfortunate.
I have a larger 2nd generation Ex6 that seemed to be nothing but trouble, from the beginning, I think what I've learned (like removing the guard where the pellets go into the auger) and some of the software updates have paid off to make this one more reliable for us. We ordered it primarily for burgers and aren't doing lots of long cooks so that may be a factor too.
There have been a few software/firmware updates that seem to have smoothed things out. FYI, there are a few things to update, the iPhone app, the grill controller firmware, and the grill controller software all might need to be updated. You'll want to check all 3. I ran into an issue where the process for updating the software wasn't working and eventually found if you leave the app open while it is connected via Bluetooth it would eventually update in the background on its own.
Weber has recommendations that are supposed to help minimize the issues with their grills. Specifically, they recommend cleaning the grill often and only using Weber pellets. I've used pellet grills for 15+ years from the original pellet grill brand and only cleaned the grill every year or so and always used any pellets I wanted and never had any issues. I'm sure Weber designs their pellets to avoid issues with the grill and cleaning will help but I feel like those shouldn't be a necessity for the grill to function correctly but I'm using them and it seems to keep things working more consistently.
This grill makes amazing food. When everything goes smoothly it is fantastic. The level of smoke that comes from the SmokeBoost feature is great. It is nice to be able to start out some cooks with a little extra smoke. Take and Bake pizza is one of our favorites.
The fact that the grill goes to higher temperatures it is great for searing steaks and cooking burgers. I've found that even at higher temperatures the grill does a great job of giving a solid smoke flavor that I've not seen from other pellet grills I've owned.
There are still some nuances with the grill that I find a little funky and I'm hoping will be resolved in time. One annoyance is that you can't seem to get all the information from one place. When you are using some of the built-in cook programs, you'll be able to see the time but not the temperature. The fact that the grill has 4 temperature probe locations I've actually found that I can use multiple at the same time. I generally will use one with the programed cook which will show time and a second in the same piece of meat that shows the temperature. I also use the 4th slot as an ambient temperature to give me a double check on the temperature inside the grill. Which can give me advance notice if something is going wrong.
