Answer: This grill has a feature called SmokeBoost, which runs the grill at a lower temperature than would normally be used. This lower temperature produces significantly more smoke. After a period of time, you then raise the temperature to your cook temperature.
Answer: Yes there’s a setting in the app to do that.

Answer: Go to Weber’s website and all of the warranty information is there. The warranty on the cook box and parts vary from 3-5 years. I will tell you that I have only ever had Weber grilling products and they 1000% stand behind their products. Side note on the smoker it is electric so keep that in mind when using... ie don’t use in the rain or extreme cold.

How easy is it to remove the pellets if you want to use a different flavor?
Answer: There is a sliding door on the hopper that allows pellets to drop into whatever container you place under the door. There will still be pellets left in the chute and in the auger that you will not be able to remove. These pellets will need to be burned during the first part of the next cook before your new pellets.

Answer: It can get messy if you don’t have a tall bucket or fuel bag. I use the Weber fuel bags, and they work great. You do have to learn to line them up to the chute so the pellets don’t go flying. Some pellets do remain in the auger chute. I can scrape a fair amount out, but you’ll have some left sitting in that chute. I recommend putting an outdoor rug under the grill if you are on a deck. That makes it easy to clean up any dropped pellets and keeps them out of the gaps in the deck.

Answer: So here is the question that rubbed me the wrong way. It is never stated that you have to use Weber pellets but if you have any issue and I mean any issue Weber will say that it is being caused by not using their pellets. I had tons of issues while using traeger pellets then switched to Weber and all the issues remained.

Answer: Use common sense. This smoker does have the open flavorizer bars, so if you have a high fat cook. just put a foil drip pan under your food. The upside of this system is that you can use this like a regular grill with a 600F sear temperature.
Answer: I am sure that it can if you have a lot of fat being dripped, or if you do not keep the smoker clean. I have never experienced a flare-up, but I always clean the smoker between smokes and I do not cook overly fatty meats.

Answer: You really don’t need to, the wood pellets you use provide the flavor. They come in many different woods such as apple, cherry, hickory, pecan, bourbon barrel, etc….
Answer: The Grill uses wood pellets for fuel (vs gas or charcoal). You are cooking with wood each time you grill. You can change the flavor of the smoke by using different pellets. Pellets can be changed by emptying the hopper and refilling. The smoke is amazing. I’ve used weber’s grill master and hickory pellets. Love both of them.

Does this really get as low as 200 degrees and as high as 600? I'm looking for a customer to answer, because I'm a little suspicious about it.
Answer: Using the SmokeBoost feature, the temperature is actually well below 200 degrees at about 165 or so. I have had even lower temperature than that during some SmokeBoost usages. I smoke at 225 degrees for hours, and the smoker maintains that temperature very well, so a constant 200 degrees is definitely achievable. The highest temperature I have used is 450 degrees when the smoker was being seasoned. It achieved that temperature in about 15 minutes, and held it for 45 minutes without any deviation, so I have no doubt that the smoker is capable of 600 degrees.
Answer: Yes. I’ve used it low and slow and I’ve used it to wood grill. If you’re going to use it for high temperatures grilling be prepared to add extra pellets.

Answer: The Gen 2 models have updated welded auger chute, new glow plug assembly and pellet hopper incline insert. Comes with up to date firmware and software out of the box as well. Hopefully this helps.
Answer: Yes. I've used a Gen2 extensively and have experienced zero issues. It's never had a flare up, burns the pellets almost completely (99% or better) - I've had to empty the tray once and it wasn't even close to being full (after 3 bags of pellets burned to date). Cooks even - have used probes on meat on different sides and internal temp is always within a couple degrees of each other.

Answer: Weber purchased JuneOS some time back and incorporated their software into the SmokeFire. It’s proven easy to use and well-featured. Consider it “proprietary” to Weber. The app works well. Easy to set up. You can make changes on the grill itself or via the mobile app. Both remain synchronized to each other. I’ve used two probes at once (it comes with two), and there’s capacity for four separate probes, which is just impressive as heck to me. All you need are the actual probes that plug into the controller on the grill.

What most people have had problems with hold true. It is a great unit, it allows you to make some awesome dishes but the gen 2 still could be better. The updated feed ramp still does not allow the pellets to flow properly, you will need to stir every so often or risk having a flame out. Also, my unit has never reached the full 550 degree mark. Thankfully none of the cooks I've done have required it yet, but still is disheartening for how much you spend on this unit

We’ve used the smoker several times. A handful of times, it does what it wants. These few times were when I was smoking a pork shoulder and the process went on past 12 hours. When I checked on the temperature, it was rising above the set temperature and I could not control with my phone or on the screen of the smoker. It went rogue! Taste was great! Just have to pay attention to it and I would not 100% trust the app to alert you.

I ordered on a month ago and have used it a dozen times. Literally load it at 6 am with the big stuff and got to work. Come home at lunch and load the smaller stuff and dinner is ready at 6. Stays 200 all day long. Mine has never varied up or down. All pellets work as long as they are the same shape. I have used pellets from all 3 name brands. Just did Easter with the parents and nephews and my sons family.10 people and had plenty of left overs. If your pondering the larger size..... Just do it. My dad was so impressed i ordered one for him and it was at his house the day after they traveled back. Called me in tears over it. It's that awesome of a smoker. I've had two weber propane grills that added up to 15yrs between them both and don't know if ill use them again. So easy to cook. Zero flare ups. no checking on your meat. Probes work excellent. And to see them on your phone is priceless as we drank at the fire pit all day and never worried.

I was extremely excited to purchase my Weber grill. I wanted to be able to smoke and grill however I was disappointed with each of my five cooks. After building it I turned it on and wanted to burn it in. It worked flawlessly and got to 450 degrees and ran perfect. The next night I wanted to grill some chicken thighs. Set the temperature for 375 and the temp fluctuated between 300-400 degrees. Took twice as long as expected and had to constantly rotate the chicken. Second cook was a smoked spatchcock chicken. Took me 1 hour and a call to Weber to just get it to start up. Set the temp for 325 and got ready for the 6-8 hour smoke. After 1.25 hours temp dropped and I looked and there was no flame but a pile of pellets. Pulled the chicken turned the grill to shutdown and proceeded to clean the grill and restart. Called Weber and they preceded to tell me that it’s because I used traeger pellets. I argued that no where does it say I have to use Weber only pellets. I ran out got the name brand and restarted. And the glow plug had to be replaced. Now 1.5 hours into restarting it and putting the chicken on my gas grill, I got it back up and running. Moved the chicken back over to smoke and wouldn’t you know it I get the no fire alarm on my phone. I go into shutdown and move the chicken to my old trusty gas Weber. I cleaned it later that night as the instructions say. Next cook was hamburgers and I set temp for 500 and never got above 300 and surprise surprise no fire but a huge pile of pellets. Last 2 cooks all the same. I returned it and am truly disappointed. Great concept just not ready for prime time. I’ll wait for maybe the third gen or fourth gen.

Have used this 6 times now. Assembly was a breeze. Have used temps between 225 and 600 and so far perfect. Did 4 ribeyes at 600 and no flare ups. If I had to make one criticism it’s that the pellets tend to get hung up at a a point and I get the message to refill. I just open the hopper and push them down but that is the only issue I’ve had.

Finally a pellet smoker worth every penny. We have been searching for a great smoker for the past 4 years with no luck. We had a Bradley 4 rack digital smoker a camp chef pellet smoker and a standard offset smoker. The Bradley was pretty good but you were limited by the size. The Camp Chef was the biggest piece of garbage ever made. The offset smoker was OK but very inconsistent and a royal pain to use. We were debating about buying the weber for 2 reasons. 1st the Gen 1 version had a ton of problems with it. There wasn't a single good review about it. 2nd our first experience with a pellet smoker was horrible. So buying this was a hard decision.. Now that being said we must say that this Gen 2 weber smoker has exceeded all our expectations. From easy assembly to dead accurate tempature control. We just cooked our first 2 racks of ribs and they came out perfect. Juicy tender and just the right amount of smoke . Super easy to use with easy to navigate menu and amazing app for your phone or tablet. I just wish I didn't wait so long to buy it.

BLUF: Great machine. Food tastes amazing with insane smoke rings. Some minor improvements can be made to the software. High-temp cooks aren't noticeably better than propane. Keep it clean between each cook to minimize grease fires (tool included). I highly recommend Weber's pellets for maximum flavor and performance.
Full Review: After years of research, I took the plunge with the Smokefire. I wisely waited until the 2.0 model was released. Weber has fixed the issues of the first generation.
My experience includes years with multiple weber gas grills. I've also used a Charbroil Kamado egg grill and a Masterbuilt electric smoker.
I have used this grill to low-and-slow cook and to high-heat cook. I've done both in back-to-back sessions with great success. I've had a few minor grease fires, but nothing extreme or honestly unexpected. I experience grease fires in my gas grills as well. In all cases, the fires burned out fairly quickly and without inputs on my part. All of them occurred when executing high-temp cooks.
I clean my smoker before each and every cook. I find that minimizes the chances of grease fires. It makes using the grill a little more labor intensive, but I find the product is worth the time spend caring for the equipment.
I empty the hopper after each cook to keep the pellets dry. This isn't as clean of an emptying as I would have hoped. Some pellets remain in the grill (right in the top of hopper chute). I'm in a hot and humid environment, and I really wish I could fully empty the hopper after each cook to keep the chance of clogging (pellets absorbing water and disintegrating) to a minimum. Thus far, I've not experienced issues, though. When you go to empty the hopper, be ready for pellets to go flying. Weber could make a minor improvement by extending the chute down below the slide to help direct pellets straight down into whatever collection device you use. I placed an outdoor rug under the smoker to help keep the pellets from collecting between my deck boards. This makes it easier to sweep up the pellets that fall out as I empty the hopper.
One note about the hopper, I do still see cavitation of pellets. So I still keep an eye out and stir the hopper with my hand from time to time. I don't mind this. I like to baby my cooks anyways (spritzing hourly during the cooks). Just one more thing to check as I check in on the meat.
For my every day cooks, I continue to use my weber gas grill. I honestly don't find value in using the Smokefire for high-temp cooks, not like I expected. When searing meat, BTU is BTU in my opinion. I don't honestly believe the meat is on the grill long enough to accumulate enough smoke flavor from the wood. The cost of using the pellets is more than burning the propane, so I will carry on with propane for my burgers, steaks, seared chicken, etc.
As a smoker, this grille is unbelievable. I've cooked ribs and pork butts thus far. The ribs are tender, juicy, and full of smoke flavor. The smoke ring this machine produces is insane! I cannot help but laugh with joy each time I look at the final product.
I have strictly used Weber's pellets. I've used both the grillmaster blend as well as the hickory blend. These pellets can be hard to find at decent prices, but I've found the flavor and performance is second to none with these pellets. I also use weber's fuel bags to hold the pellets, and these also perform brilliantly.
I added both the left side table as well as the front tables to give me maximum table space around the grill. I've already leaned on all of the secondary tables to rest utensils, gloves, trays, etc. The maximum space really makes it easy to focus on the work and keep everything I need close at hand each time I go to the grill. The tables are all easy to install, sturdy, and function perfectly for my needs. They clean up easily.
From the software perspective, I enjoy the Weber Connect app. There are a few drawbacks with the app, but overall I like the software and control. Smokeboost is an amazing feature that's fantastic to use at the beginning of your cooks. It's easy to activate and deactivate.
I use timers and temperature alarms for my cooks. The timers are easy to set, but I do wish there was a way to label them. I often set multiple timers at the outset of the cook. As the timers wind down, it can be difficult to remember which is which with just a glance. Color code? Label with a name? These changes could improve the experience. One other item to keep aware of, timers stop when you turn off the Smokefire. This won't affect most folks, but it does impact me. To save on fuel, when I wrap the different meats, I move them into my electric smoker. BTU is BTU once wrapped, and electricity is cheaper than pellets. It would be nice if the Weber Connect app could keep timers running all in one central location even when the grill is shut down. As it stands today, I have to transition my timers to other applications before I shut down the grill.
The temperature probes work fantastically well. I've used the two that come with the smoker. The software immediately recognizes each probe once connected. Overall, a solid experience. Again, I love seeing the probe temps mixed in with my timers and alarms. One place to view all of the grill data is fantastic. As with the timers, I'd love to be able to color code or label the probes to help me remember which piece of meat is attached to which probe. Small nit to pick.
Other items I've observed. The casters work great for me. no complaints. The other hardware is solid. I love the flavorizer bars and grates. Loads of space. I love the controls on the grill itself. I split my usage between the app and the control panel. Both work great. The grease and ash trays work exactly as advertised. The cleaning spatula that comes with the grill is a great tool to use to keep the inside cleaned out. Again, I recommend cleaning between each cook just to minimize grease fires and help keep the grill functioning well for the long term. No issues with the glow plug or jamming of the auger.
This is an expensive piece of kit, but if you love smoked food and you love weber's quality and functionality, you'll really enjoy this grill.
Ned McDowell : Doesn’t Work out of the box
Purchased, setup,went to have initial cook off, and the grill would not work and displayed several error codes. I followed directions but nothing helped. I then called customer service, who advised that the error was a bad fan motor. They said they would overnight me a new one.
Here it is the next day, and the replacement part has not been shipped, no tracking number and it’s still in the warehouse.
First, didn’t someone at the factory test the electronics before it was packaged for sale. Second, don’t promise a solution if you can’t produce one.
As a repeat Weber customer I’m very disappointed

Iade a big mistake getting this smoker vs Treager, I had total of 8 cooks in it, it constantly jams the pellets, loses the cooking program that you relied on and and I need to be around it constantly to make sure to push the pellets in.

Weber is known for their charcoal and gas grill, pellet grills not so much. This is one of the worst decisions you can make when buying a pellet grill. Stick with the one and only RecTec and stop having headaches.

This overall made some great steaks but there are flaws. The app was easy to use and has pre-set meat types, thickness sized temperature for the type of finished cook you want. I’ll always be a medium rare steak eater so the probes that come with this grill is great for keeping an eye for the meats doneness. The app lets you know when to flip and take off your meat. After I took my meat off and was still cooking my asparagus, the temperature kept rising so that’s worrisome that it’s not keeping the temperature you set and I do smoke my jerky so I’ll be able to test that out next weekend. I mainly got this for that reason that it’s supposed to control the temperature and I’m not having to sit outside messing with the temperature to control it to 200-225 for smoking my jerky. There were a lot of parts that came damaged, as in, bent pieces. All of the functions still worked though. When I’m done smoking my jerky, I’ll update this review to see how it controlled the smoking temperature.
Webb : Challenges Left and Right, Great Food Regardless
This is a difficult review to write. I've had pellet grills for the last 15+ years from another major brand and when I saw the Weber SmokeFire, I was excited about getting a next-generation grill that included everything that has been learned from other pellet grills over the years. I had seen some comments about original SmokeFire grills so I was hopeful that this 2nd Gen grill would have all those kinks worked out. (Spoiler, they haven't but I'm hopeful.)
Looking at the features of the grill, I was really impressed. The wifi & Bluetooth controller with 4 built-in slots for thermometers seemed great. The build quality of the grill itself seemed really great with thick metal. The overall cooking area of the EX6 is welcome with being able to cook as much food as we want as opposed to limiting our recipes by grill space.
I was also impressed with some of the little ideas like the chute that the pellets slide down instead of a horizontal pellet path that can allow pellets to burn before their time.
I also really like the integrated grease drip tray and ash collector in the bottom. I thought this would make the occasional cleaning of the grill a breeze. Something we rarely did with our previous grills.
Unfortunately, when the grill arrived, it included trouble from day one. After the grill was assembled, it turned on for a moment, the fan spun up, and then immediately produced a fan error (E2). After some time with Weber support, they decided I needed a replacement fan. It arrived a few days later and while removing the old one I saw the problem. The fan wire was installed incorrectly at the factory and it caused a couple of the wires to be cut as it was screwed in. Sure enough, the replacement fan solved the problem. It was a bummer waiting the few days for it to come. Weber did offer me a free bag of pellets as an apology for the problems but they never came. I sent them an email and they apologized again and they came.
I'm sorry to say, it wasn't smooth sailing after the fan issue. I'll spare you all the details but the next 4 cooks were each delayed by issues with the grill. One time the grill would not start, after some research, I found that there was a common issue with the glow plug losing contact and not working. I replaced the plug and used a bit of baling wire to secure it and that hasn't been an issue since. Delaying our Thanksgiving turkey dinner by an hour and a half was not something I was thankful for.
I had another issue with the pellets not feeding correctly and the fire going out. More research revealed that removing the finger guard that prevents you from sticking your fingers into the auger can cause pellets to not feed correctly. I removed it and that hasn't been an issue since.
I've had a couple of issues that seem to be software/firmware issues, there have been a few software updates that seem to have smoothed things out on that front. FYI, there are a few things to update, the iPhone app, the grill controller firmware, and the grill controller software all might need to be updated. You'll want to check all 3. I ran into an issue where the process for updating the software wasn't working and eventually found out that version wasn't triggering the update alert but if you left the app open while it was connected via Bluetooth it would eventually update in the background on its own.
While I seem to be working through the issues, I have yet to have many cooks go completely seamless. Our latest prime rib we made for Christmas came out amazing but I went to visit my parents while it was on the grill and was checking the progress via the app and it lost connection and I had to call home to have someone check the temperature for me.
Weber does have recommendations that are supposed to help minimize the issues with their grills. Specifically, they recommend cleaning the grill often and only using Weber pellets. While I'm sure these will help, I feel like they are not the core of any issues with the grill. As I mentioned I've used pellet grills for 15+ years from the original pellet grill brand and only cleaned the grill every year or so and always used any pellets I wanted and never had any issues. I'm sure Weber designs their pellets to avoid issues with the grill and cleaning will help but I feel like those shouldn't be a necessity for the grill to function correctly.
I don't want to finish the review without mentioning the positive. This grill does make amazing food. When everything goes smoothly it is fantastic. The level of smoke that comes from low and slow cooking has made for some great brisket and pulled pork. As you can see from the pictures, the bright pink area on the outside is the "smoke ring" and it comes out fantastic.
The fact that the grill goes to higher temperatures it is great for searing steaks and cooking burgers. I've found that even at higher temperatures the grill does a great job of giving a solid smoke flavor that I've not seen from other pellet grills I've owned.
I am hopeful that the combination of me working through the issues and Weber making progress with their software will at some point make this a great grill I can feel confident in for every cook. Right now I'm hesitant every time I use it and feel like I need to be keeping an eye on it more often than I should.
I'm very sad to have to give this grill such a low rating. In my research working through issues, I've found some very helpful groups of people who have had a completely different experience than mine and can highly recommend the grills themselves. I've even seen some surveys of owners where every single person thinks the grills are amazing so it seems, my issues are unique in some way.
Overall, I'm still pleased with the "Weber 23510201 SmokeFire EX6 (2nd Gen) Wood Fired Pellet Grill, Black" and love the food it makes. My hope is that I'll be able to update this review in future months saying that the issues I've had are all in the past.

I ordered on a month ago and have used it a dozen times. Literally load it at 6 am with the big stuff and got to work. Come home at lunch and load the smaller stuff and dinner is ready at 6. Stays 200 all day long. Mine has never varied up or down. All pellets work as long as they are the same shape. I have used pellets from all 3 name brands. Just did Easter with the parents and nephews and my sons family.10 people and had plenty of left overs. If your pondering the larger size..... Just do it. My dad was so impressed i ordered one for him and it was at his house the day after they traveled back. Called me in tears over it. It's that awesome of a smoker. I've had two weber propane grills that added up to 15yrs between them both and don't know if ill use them again. So easy to cook. Zero flare ups. no checking on your meat. Probes work excellent. And to see them on your phone is priceless as we drank at the fire pit all day and never worried.

First off the grill was damaged dented during shipping its almost 200lbs.
This grill has been nothing but problems since assembly to use, items not fitting properly when being put together, defects, poor quality control.
First 40min break in the grill was okay, first time trying to grill steaks the grill got so hot it warped and the heat spreaders fell apart on the inside and knocked the hot box out of place then the grill also caught on fire, the 30 minute shut down process where it burns even hotter to rid it of excess pellet made it worse....
Okay thats fine things happen second grill session we used it as a smoker once it was reassembled again, grilled started to smoke excessive it turned out one of the coils had already burned out and the grill was smoldering, okay no big deal replaced coil cleaned out the pellet shoot fired back up, smoked a brisket and various foods for 15 hours no issues GREAT problems solved wrong....
Third grill session grill almost caught fire again from grease this time from one smoke session, you'll be aggressively cleaning this grill after every use to prevent a grease fire.
Fourth use another smoke session fired up in the morning all was well 240f it was cranking out clean heat, placed all of my meat on the smoker 45 min later I get a temp low warning, the grill has gone cold and has been dumping pellets into the feed with no fire for 30 min filling the bottom half of the grill..... OKAY after cleaning the bottom of the grill out of grease and pellets ANOTHER COIL WAS BAD REPLACED, clean empty shoot I turn the grill on with a fresh coil 20 minutes later I'm smoking out the block the pellets were not igniting fully from the new coil, I proceed to shut off the grill to inspect and it erupts in flames due to the fan kicking on for shut down all of my meat at this point is soaked in smoke and now burning due to flames kicking up....
This grill has not only caused tons of headaches and problems but now has ruined hundreds in dollars in food and a weekend.... weber needs to work on this grill A LOT your customers should not product testers for your unfinished products.

We’ve used the smoker several times. A handful of times, it does what it wants. These few times were when I was smoking a pork shoulder and the process went on past 12 hours. When I checked on the temperature, it was rising above the set temperature and I could not control with my phone or on the screen of the smoker. It went rogue! Taste was great! Just have to pay attention to it and I would not 100% trust the app to alert you.

Temperature reads wrong which impacts cook. Sometimes the grill just stops smoking needing me to restart it... so I have to be around it 24/7... sucks
