Answer: In my opinion it is not loud. I have it on the porch just outside the door and can not hear it with door closed.

Is the bottom tray supposed supposed to fit base because mine doesn’t

Answer: Not quite sure what you're asking. I will say this much. The very bottom of the dehydrator is not for drying. It is just a bottom. The walls of the dehydrator are built up by the exterior of the drying trays. So as the trays stack, it constructs the exterior wall. Now, the bottom tray and the bottom portion of the dehydrator are not the same nor are they meant to sit one inside the other, just on.... (In alignment)

We have returned this item. It was not efficient or affective at really drying out fruit and making it crisp. Everything was super chewy even after doubling time and increasing heat. We will use our oven on low instead.

I bought this dehydrator as a gift for my husband (per his request) so he could dehydrate homegrown lion mane mushrooms. I like how easy it to set this thing up, easy to clean, easy to remove the trays. It also works pretty silently. There is some noise but it sounds rather like a small fan and does not bother at all. I tried dehydrating boiled mashed taro root (so I could make a taro root powder, sort of like instant mashed taro root). It was dry within 8 hours. This dehydrator is pretty compact. One thing is that trays feel a bit too flimsy, so I handle them carefully. Other than that I think this thing is very useful and provides great value for the money.

I contacted Amazon and got the NESCO number, They are sending me a new one, they said the unit was not sitting flush because the heating element was getting too hot. So, everything is fine now, even though it was a bad purchase, at the time.

I bought this in December as a Christmas gift for myself. I’m a homesteader and wanted to start preserving things from my garden. The first couple of times i was very happy that i had bought this but as i write this it is February 2021, just two months later and it does not sit flush anymore. So to say the least, I’m very unhappy, with this product and the price i paid for it. I know it is because of the heat and how long it needs to stay on for a good dried veggie or fruit. They need to make them better or add something like a prong so it will continue to fit. Even with with a warranty it’s a hassle to find the original box contacting someone mailing it off, big headache! I gave it one star overall because it can’t be used with all 4 shelves which they tell you, you have to. If i could use one shelf i probably wouldn’t be so unhappy or maybe buy one more expensive, almost $100 isn’t expensive enough.

I have only been using this dehydrator for a week now, but love it. I have done radishes, mushrooms, tomatoes and Hatch peppers. There is a learning curve because, while the machine is easy and rather self-explanatory, there are variables in the food, how thick you slice them, ambient temperature and humidity, etc. So you have to take a peek now and then to see how things are going. However, that's easy to do and the instruction manuel suggests you use a journal to keep notes. I found that very helpful. My only complaint is how to position the top piece (the heater) when I am taking a peek. It doesn't sit flat. Not a big deal, but a better design would make it so you could place it aside and not have it roll on the pivot/heater mechanism. That being said, I definitely recommend this dehydrator as a good buy. I'm loving it and think dehydrating is a lot of fun.

The best features:
The FAN is housed in the top position. Long years ago, when I bought my first food dehydrator, the machinery was in the BOTTOM position. While that might have some advantages for balance, it meant that whatever dripped or fell down impacted the piece with moving parts. Consequently, clean-up, PARTICULARLY of grease drippings, was difficult, as you can't immerse the unit in hot water. I really like this design.
The time and temperature controls are easy to use. A helpful guide to temps for different snacks is printed on the control unit, so I don't have to remember. It also makes it possible to get a batch going that will be finished in the middle of the night, and not have to set an alarm to wake up and turn it off.
Very quiet. I was running a batch in the room next to where I was having a meeting, and it presented no problem at all. I have even had a conversation at the kitchen table while to machine was running, and I didn't have to raise my voice to be heard.
A new development, and one I haven't tried yet, are the tiny grid Clean-a-screens. I'm going to try dehydrating nectarines today, and that might be the way to go.
My 16-year-old son Kenneth is fascinated by the process of seasoning and applying the beef to make jerky.
