The Scotty #242 Rail Mount Adapter allows you to mount the Scotty Side/Deck Mounts (#241 & #241L) on your boat's railing for use with all Scotty post mount rod holders. (Side/Deck Mount not included.) Works with 7/8" and 1" diameter round rails, as well as 1" square rails. Includes stainless steel fasteners for ROUND rails. When using with a 1" SQUARE rail, substitute 1/4 - 20 x 2" round head stainless steel machine screws - these are NOT included. Color choices: Black, Gray and White.

How thick is this piece? I need to make sure there is enough clearance between bottom of rail and gunwale.

Answer: Can't say exactly bc I'm not near it but it is about the same thickness size as the the top part you have it .

Answer: Yes. I have both brands and both are interchangeable.

1" bolts needed? I hear the supplied bolts won't fit if you have 1" tubes. What size bolts will I need if I have the 1" tubes? Thanks.

Answer: I have these mounted on 1" tubes and I think that I was ok with the bolts that came with the mount.

Answer: The stock hardware length is ideal for a 1" tube.

Does this work with the scotty #230 powerlock rod holder ?

Answer: Call Scotty customer support. The number is on their web site.

the picture shows 2 mounting bolts and it looks like 4 are required. How many and how long are the mounting bolts included with this adapter?

Answer: It's been a while so I don't remember the details. I think 4 bolts are required and are provided. However, I think the bolts are for a 3/4" rail. If you have a 1" rail you may need to visit your local hardware store (get stainless). In any case, your best bet is to call Scotty support at 1-800-214-0141.

Answer: I just received mine, and sure enough, it says: 1" Round or Square Rail, Substitute 4 -1/4" 2" bolts (not included) for the 1/4" x 1 3/4" bolts. I can't believe they get away w/ saying this will work on 1"; however, does not include all hardware for 1"

This is a great fishing pole mounting bracket! It is tough and clamps firmly to the rail on the boat. The push-button release for the pole holder is fantastic, beats the old pull out half way - twist - and pull again method. Now you can pull it out in any direction. And the mount turns in any direction you want it to go. Couldn't ask for more!

This is a very simple 4 screw adapter, and provides a sturdy clamping action on 7/8 inch railing. I wish they provided some plastic bolt end caps as they are sharp exposed edges.

I had the Scotty Rod holders on my runabout boat and now have a pontoon. These adapters saved me the time and money of having to buy new rod holders. They were very easy to use took only minutes to install with the rod holders and now I am enjoying them.

These adapters work very well. Tried another model but they wouldn't grip a round rail. I use them to handle musky rods with no problem

It's a real shame this company has to sell each side by for this to work. Pretty crappy Scotty's you could just give the consumers what they need instead of having to buy separate pieces for it to work!!! Very disappointed, will not EVER buy anything Scotty' again!!!!

this does not fit 1" rail the only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I made it work first of all the bolts are two short so you need to buy longer bolts then when you use the longer bolts the holes do not line up so I bored the holes out on both pieces and then the bolts will go through very tight and hit and scratch your rail

Works as designed, incuded what appears to be stainless steel hardware, and the hardware was of a sufficient length to get the job done on my boat, I may actually look to get screwes 1/4" shorter than the provided long screws. I have not released/moved these mounts so I can't speak to the marks that others have spoken about.

The rail mount adapter works well on my 7/8" stainless rail that was on my boat. I added a little rubber tape to the inside of this and the deck mount it attaches too instead of using the set screws, and it works great and holds very well
