I had success with these catching pacific mackerel in a size 8 using this rig. As another user mentioned trim the feathers and i would add small pieces of cut bait to increase your hook up ratio. Mackerel eat mackerel. What i disliked it that i lost my weight due to the cheap material used on this thing. It literally is so thin it rusted while I was using it within a 14 hour fishing day i lost 2 weights had to rip a feather off tie on a new weight. The swivel at the leader connection rusted right off and broke off towards the end of the day. My recommendations would be to rip off the swivels and tie on new barrel swivels and a snap if you wish. I lost the rig at the pier after it rusted right off my line during a drop. The line used is also fragile and does not stand up to any abrasion or kinks so try not to tangle it up and get the hooks caught on the line. It will fail and you will lose half your rig with your lead.
