Am I doing something wrong? All this thing does is flash the seal light at me. Ive never used it before so its not over heated or anything.
Answer: I can try to help but I need more detail, please. What kind of bag are you using? Are you trying to seal meats or are you using the premade bag? Is the light flashing before you lock the level into place - like after you've put the bag under the heating element and locked it into place?
Answer: You have to have the bag placed exactly in the middle of the gasket seal,if you don't it won't create a tight seal to vacuum and it will just suck air and continue to till you stop it.i had trouble at first now it works great and I know where to put the bag now.just make sure you have enough slack in the bag so when you close the lid to seal it won't pull the bag out from the gasket. Hope this helps.

Product reviews of FoodSaver VS3150 Multi-Use Vacuum Sealing & Food Preservation System with Additional Roll, Charcoal Stainless Steel, Black
RayJoni07 : Great tool to have and it works great!
I always wanted to try a food saver vacuum sealer but was intimidated by them. This one came and it’s actually really easy to use. A manual, two rolls of bags, extra individual ready seal bags, accompany this nifty tool. The instructions are not only in the manual but also located on the upper inside portion of the vacuum sealer.
It is a little noisy when in use but it works quick at removing the air. My kitchen is fairly small so this is something I’ll keep store in my pantry or under my cabinets.
The slate grey color is nice, the directions are straight to the point, and the beauty of this tool is that you can vacuum seal more than food!
Definitely recommend if you want to keep your food longer!
Amazon Customer : Great machine
Present
James W. Durney : Easy to use and solidly built.
Excellent value for the price. Removable "drip tray" inside for easy cleaning and it doesn't take up too much space.
Amazon Customer : Great product
Good product use it to process my deer
Natalie : Great for pork and deer meat
Works great on meat but not that great for really wet or grease things
AJ : No more freezer burn!
I have been wanting a FoodSaver for a while and was so excited to finally try it... now I see why everyone loves this system! My husband and I have a traditional garden and also grow veggies hydroponically. When we have excess produce and herbs, we freeze them. But there’s nothing worse than working really hard to plant and grow food and freeze it, only to have it be freezer burned after just a short time in the freezer- ugh. So, I’m glad it was easy to use since the FoodSaver keeps foods fresh for up to five times longer! But what I didn’t realize is this system can also keep other things fresh like marinating meats, and dry goods like flour. I love the different settings to customize how it’s sealed based on the contents. I love how quiet it is too. My only issue with the system is the short cord length. But I’m so impressed by the functionality and quality of this system, I can easily overlook that inconvenience! Five stars!
James Messiti : read the directions!
Gave it to my daughter as a gift. And its better than the one I have. She loves it .

Taryn Tarighati : Works really well, very well built with multiple sealing options
I've been using this for about a month now and here are my findings. I strongly recommend this if you want to keep your food and vegetables fresh for a longer period and also maybe try some in-the-bag cooking.
Pros: - Very high quality material and seems very durable, definitely not cheaply made at all. Stainless steel finish is flawless and very nice and beautiful - Easy to use and straight forward operation. You can start using it immediately out of the box, no chance of messing it up - They've included a bonus roll in the box which is nice for a start. - It is relatively small and compact, you can easily keep it in the pantry if you have some room. At around 15 inches wide, it's not the smallest but still very manageable - It is smart when doing vacuum, depending on your food being juicy or dry, you can set the vacuum mode to dry or moist. You can also choose to vacuum or marinade if needed. Basically it's not just an old school sealer, it does give you options to do a lot more. - The handle on the side is used to open/store or operate the device which is easy and straight forward - You can reheat in the bag to and I've tried cooking things right from the bag in the microwave and I have had a relatively good rate of success. I strongly recommend you start with simpler cheaper stuff if you want to cook inside the bags since there might be problems specially with leaks when fully cooked.
Cons: - It is a little noisy in my opinion, you don't expect a vacuum sealer to be this noisy but it's ok. I can live with it. - The finish of the charcoal stainless steel top of the FoodSaver is not that good for a machine that is supposed to be used by greasy hands and fingers. It's really hard to keep it clean, specially with all the fingerprints on it which is really inevitable when operating. - You have to place it close to an outlet as the cable is relatively short. - I have tried several different bags, from Ziploc to Hefty and none of them work with the FoodSaver. That is important since you have to buy their bags all the time if you're planning on using this frequently and as far as I know, Costco doesn't carry it so the cost of buying online or from other supermarkets might add up.
Overall, a little expensive but an excellent product and works really well.
PJM102 : Balance of Power — How Much Vacuum
We are an avid outdoors family. Hunt and fish year round. And yep, we grocery shop too :-) Always loading camp and home freezers. Very experienced vacuum sealers using commercial chamber type. Decided to try a “home” version, counter top size unit. Fully prepared to return to Amazon Prime if needed.
First and foremost you should know this unit pulls 11” of vacuum (10.5 inches actually, I rounded up). Other units can pull as much as 22”-30” Hg. This is a BIG difference. But not necessarily a show stopper (more on this later). I measured this with 2 different accurate vacuum gauges. I am an engineer and understand measurement, pressures, etc. Made a career out of measuring. I wanted this unit to perform. I really did. 11” Hg verified. Just know Foodsaver doesn’t reveal how much vacuum their units pull. They say it’s proprietary? So measured I did.
Bottomline is we’ll keep the unit. Overall very utilitarian with nice set of features allowing both auto and manual operation — you want that. Manual (pulse) allows you to control or “feather” amount of hard/soft vacuum. A unit with internal bag roll storage is a plus; very efficient. The Hand Held Accessory is a great option. Use with zip type vac seal bags, jars, marinade containers. And this hand held Accessory has its own reservoir to collect liquids (when used for zip bag). Nice. Main unit has liquid catch tray as well. Essential. Must have. Why? You don’t want liquids sucked into the vacuum pump. It can easily happen. Cleaning nightmare. Always be careful to avoid liquids getting into the pump circuit.
I would prefer a bit more vacuum power but think we can live with this. It’s adequate but barely IMO. ONLY because we normally use our vac’ed foods within a year or less and our sealed bags tend to hold up during that span. And yes, we have had precious wild game get buried in the freezer for 2+ years (stored using monster size chamber vac). They were all fine, seals intact. So a durable seal matters.
Balance of Power (this is the “more on this later” part) You buy a vac sealer to evacuate the air from your storage container and keep it out. Soo....you want enough vac power and sealing ability to do so. Over a long haul. Yet there is something of a balance needed between too much and not enough suction. Bear in mind a common complaint about sealers is bag leaks over time. That’s a FAIL. There are lots of reasons for this (user error, crappy bags, etc). Also consider vacuum can work against itself. How? Ambient air pressure is ALWAYS trying to get in. Plus the hostile environment inside your freezer. Competing forces. Too much vacuum can be a problem and work against the seal. Unless “the balance of power” is good. There are several variables here: vacuum amount, bag quality, seal quality, the user. Too much vacuum for a mediocre seal or a chinchy bag can result in creating a leak. It’s just a matter of physics. So now I’ll postulate: One has to think the better manufactures understand the balance between amount of vacuum, bag design/material, and sealing. Thus they want to find that balance or sweet spot. And all things considered, the better manufactures match the variables for optimal, cost effective performance. So I surmise it’s wise to stick with matched, quality components (bags) that work in unison. At least until you verify other bags will work as well (many do). Respect that balance.
Results We put this unit to work. Processed an entire deer and 30 lbs of large, whole shrimp. The unit didn’t miss a beat vac’ing and sealing dozens of bags custom cut from Foodsaver rolls. We cut ~ gallon and quart size. Some necessarily larger than gallon size. NOTE: We also used several bulk packaged precut bags from Foodsaver. And yes they were about an inch shorter than the older precuts and the demo bags that come with this unit. Makes a difference. Shame on Foodsaver!
Ok, so I would like to have a bit more than 11” of vacuum. We tinkered with Dry, Moist, Pulse settings to fully test this unit to get max vacuum we needed for this batch. We didn’t get that shrink wrap type result on larger items like 3-4 lb roasts; could still see a bit of air space left in. Just a little :-( The shrimp sealed very well as they lend themselves to a nice, flatter lay in the bags. Happy. Overall we think it’ll do. And the 5 year warranty helps with peace of mind.
I CAN’T yet speak to the longevity of the seals and bags (the bags are well made tho, no reason for concern here). I do know we prep’ed and sealed like pros. So time will tell how and to what extent that bit of air matters and how well the seals hold.
I know this was a lengthy review. Hopefully not too technical. Hope it helps you. Inquiring minds want know.....
Tb : Great product
I've tried at least 7 different vacume sealers and this one was the only one that had everything I wanted. It works amazing. I love this sealer
Shannon L. Yarbrough : Multi Use Food Saver - Great product!
I've seen these all over television, but didn't think they'd be worth it. I was wrong! This is a great product. I used it to divide up a large purchase of hamburger meat to put in my freezer as smaller portions. Super simple to use. Not messy at all. And it definitely prevents freezer burn. The seal is very tight. The heat seal is perfect for freezer storage, and there is a vacuum seal for basic fridge storage which I have not tried out yet. I was worried about it taking up a lot of counter space, but it's kind of flat and easy to store. I'm very satisfied overall and would highly recommend to anyone else who is considering a food saver.

Kindle Customer : Works great, hopefully for a long time.
I love these Foodsaver food preservation systems! They work well and keep food fresh for either refrigeration or freezing. The fact i have owned four of them brings up the only drawback; they don't last as long as one would like. They last past their warranty but eventually the motor or heating element dies. I would like to see them make a model that lasts for many years. Maybe this will be the one.
Shannon : Excellent food saver
Best purchase ever. Works with ease and keeps food fresh.
HumdingerYak560 : Love using this!
One of the best things I have in the kitchen
Susan : Awesome Product
I absolutely LOVE this product. I have had no issues whatsoever! My freezer is full of vacuum sealed food and I am a happy girl!
Ashlee3410 : Nice vacuum sealer
Has everything needed to vacuum seal different items big or small. I even like the feature of the hand held vacuum sealer for smaller bags or containers. It is a bit noisy but other than that it works just fine.

Susan Hale Dake : FoodSaver VS3150 Multi-Use Vacuum Sealing & Food Preservation System
I have been wanting and needing one of these for a long time and this is a great choice. It's easy to set up and use. I like that you can use the heat sealer or the hand held vacuum sealer for just about everything. I've already starting using it for freezing , storing and marinating too. I like that it also has multiple options as in pulse or marinate, wet or dry. This is a nice sealer at a good price. It's worth every penny. It's very well made too. I do a lot off cooking and this is a must have for any kitchen in my opinion. Love it!

That is important since you have to buy their bags all the time if you're planning on using this frequently and as far as I know, Costco doesn't carry it so the cost of buying online or from other supermarkets might add up.
Overall, a little expensive but an excellent product and works really well.
Tb : Great product
I've tried at least 7 different vacume sealers and this one was the only one that had everything I wanted. It works amazing. I love this sealer
Kalena2960 : Easiest Food Saver I've Ever Used
Just seriously the absolute easiest Food Saver I've ever used. After more than 20 years, and a few households I've used more than a couple. Not much in the way of footprint which is always nice. Some of these machines are just entirely too big. Bigger is not better. After slipping the bag across the sealing bar and closing the top, selecting your sealing or vacuum mode, simply flip the handle on the right side of the appliance. How great is that? Awesome. I love this thing and feel like buying an extra just so I'll have it for when this conks out. No appliance lasts forever and I'd rather not have to hunt the next best one in a few years. So, I'd definitely buy again and I've already recommended this specific model to friends.
