Am I doing something wrong? All this thing does is flash the seal light at me. Ive never used it before so its not over heated or anything.
Answer: I can try to help but I need more detail, please. What kind of bag are you using? Are you trying to seal meats or are you using the premade bag? Is the light flashing before you lock the level into place - like after you've put the bag under the heating element and locked it into place?
Answer: You have to have the bag placed exactly in the middle of the gasket seal,if you don't it won't create a tight seal to vacuum and it will just suck air and continue to till you stop it.i had trouble at first now it works great and I know where to put the bag now.just make sure you have enough slack in the bag so when you close the lid to seal it won't pull the bag out from the gasket. Hope this helps.

Product reviews of FoodSaver VS3150 Multi-Use Vacuum Sealing & Food Preservation System with Additional Roll, Charcoal Stainless Steel, Black
Tb : Great product
I've tried at least 7 different vacume sealers and this one was the only one that had everything I wanted. It works amazing. I love this sealer
Whidbey Mary : Nice Update to a Great FoodSaver Product
I am a big fan of FoodSaver Vacuum Sealers. I had an original which died after about 20+ years.
PROS:
Tipped angle makes it easy to read the sealing options
Roll storage inside the machine for quickly making a customized bag size
Attached Hand held sealer
Drip tray (genius idea!)
Sealing options: Dry, Moist, Wet, Manual sealing, Automatic sealing, Marinade, Pulse
CONS:
Took longer than my prior FoodSaver to vacuum and seal. I suspect it requires a more exact placement of the open end of the bag than my older model did. Practice makes perfect.
Additionally, I also use this for storing my craft pens, paints, and other craft items that will last longer if stored in an airtight environment.
PJM102 : Balance of Power — How Much Vacuum
We are an avid outdoors family. Hunt and fish year round. And yep, we grocery shop too :-)
Always loading camp and home freezers. Very experienced vacuum sealers using commercial chamber type. Decided to try a “home” version, counter top size unit. Fully prepared to return to Amazon Prime if needed.
First and foremost you should know this unit pulls 11” of vacuum (10.5 inches actually, I rounded up). Other units can pull as much as 22”-30” Hg. This is a BIG difference. But not necessarily a show stopper (more on this later).
I measured this with 2 different accurate vacuum gauges. I am an engineer and understand measurement, pressures, etc. Made a career out of measuring. I wanted this unit to perform. I really did. 11” Hg verified.
Just know Foodsaver doesn’t reveal how much vacuum their units pull. They say it’s proprietary? So measured I did.
Bottomline is we’ll keep the unit. Overall very utilitarian with nice set of features allowing both auto and manual operation — you want that. Manual (pulse) allows you to control or “feather” amount of hard/soft vacuum.
A unit with internal bag roll storage is a plus; very efficient.
The Hand Held Accessory is a great option. Use with zip type vac seal bags, jars, marinade containers. And this hand held Accessory has its own reservoir to collect liquids (when used for zip bag). Nice.
Main unit has liquid catch tray as well. Essential. Must have. Why? You don’t want liquids sucked into the vacuum pump. It can easily happen. Cleaning nightmare. Always be careful to avoid liquids getting into the pump circuit.
I would prefer a bit more vacuum power but think we can live with this. It’s adequate but barely IMO. ONLY because we normally use our vac’ed foods within a year or less and our sealed bags tend to hold up during that span. And yes, we have had precious wild game get buried in the freezer for 2+ years (stored using monster size chamber vac). They were all fine, seals intact. So a durable seal matters.
Balance of Power (this is the “more on this later” part)
You buy a vac sealer to evacuate the air from your storage container and keep it out. Soo....you want enough vac power and sealing ability to do so. Over a long haul. Yet there is something of a balance needed between too much and not enough suction. Bear in mind a common complaint about sealers is bag leaks over time. That’s a FAIL. There are lots of reasons for this (user error, crappy bags, etc). Also consider vacuum can work against itself. How? Ambient air pressure is ALWAYS trying to get in. Plus the hostile environment inside your freezer. Competing forces. Too much vacuum can be a problem and work against the seal. Unless “the balance of power” is good. There are several variables here: vacuum amount, bag quality, seal quality, the user. Too much vacuum for a mediocre seal or a chinchy bag can result in creating a leak. It’s just a matter of physics.
So now I’ll postulate: One has to think the better manufactures understand the balance between amount of vacuum, bag design/material, and sealing. Thus they want to find that balance or sweet spot. And all things considered, the better manufactures match the variables for optimal, cost effective performance. So I surmise it’s wise to stick with matched, quality components (bags) that work in unison. At least until you verify other bags will work as well (many do).
Respect that balance.
Results
We put this unit to work. Processed an entire deer and 30 lbs of large, whole shrimp. The unit didn’t miss a beat vac’ing and sealing dozens of bags custom cut from Foodsaver rolls. We cut ~ gallon and quart size. Some necessarily larger than gallon size.
NOTE: We also used several bulk packaged precut bags from Foodsaver. And yes they were about an inch shorter than the older precuts and the demo bags that come with this unit. Makes a difference. Shame on Foodsaver!
Ok, so I would like to have a bit more than 11” of vacuum. We tinkered with Dry, Moist, Pulse settings to fully test this unit to get max vacuum we needed for this batch. We didn’t get that shrink wrap type result on larger items like 3-4 lb roasts; could still see a bit of air space left in. Just a little :-(
The shrimp sealed very well as they lend themselves to a nice, flatter lay in the bags. Happy.
Overall we think it’ll do. And the 5 year warranty helps with peace of mind.
I CAN’T yet speak to the longevity of the seals and bags (the bags are well made tho, no reason for concern here). I do know we prep’ed and sealed like pros. So time will tell how and to what extent that bit of air matters and how well the seals hold.
I know this was a lengthy review. Hopefully not too technical. Hope it helps you. Inquiring minds want know.....
Leland W. Bender : Quit throwing away your money
Start vacuum sealing and start saving money by not throwing out freezer burned food.
Kelly Bowen : Broke after first use
I used it once for vegetables and tried a second bag... will not suck out air.
Matt : Worked great three times, then stopped working at all
I ordered this, along with one of their vacuum-able containers. When I received it I went to bag/seal about 10 pounds of chicken into meal-sized portions. It worked fine for three bags and then, on the fourth, stopped vacuuming hardly at all. I ran the cycle five times and the bag still contained air. In addition, the handheld unit tip broke off the second time I used it on a FoodSaver brand container (first time worked great) rendering that element useless. I tried all of the troubleshooting to no avail, and after a couple of weeks of occasionally trying to get it to work unsuccessfully I'm now trying to fix/return it. If they'll replace it (or there's some fix I haven't figured out) I'll give the machine another shot, but for now I'm not impressed.
flip : Started processing pinto beans. After 14 one cup bags the thing quit vacuuming.
It didn't come with a users manual so had to go online for help. Nothing recommended by them fixed the problem. I should have known when it was on sale that problems were in store.
Now I have to waste my time trying to return this POS.
J.J. Chism : Doesn't suction well. Used it twice and I have to send it back. May as well use Ziplock bags.
I said it all in the title.
ellen kindred : Great product
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. It is really easy to use, doesn't require 2 people as many reviews have stated, and it seems super effective. So far, really happy with my purchase.
Brian Smith : Flagship Product
This is my third FoodSaver vacuum sealing product and they just get better and better. While it's a bit expensive, being able to buy meat in bulk and safely and easily freeze it has more than paid for the devices.
I like the way this operates. It's simpler than the previous one I had where I would often vacuum when I meant to just seal and vice versa. It takes the same types of make-your-own bags. It works with an optional marinating accessory. And, it has a device that will work with premade Ziploc type bags.
I also like the look. It has a slightly larger footprint than my old FoodSaver. But, it's not too big on the countertop or in the pantry.
Rdeokttn : Wow so much better than my other machine
FoodSaver VS3150 Multi-Use Vacuum Sealing & Food Preservation System with Bonus Roll, Charcoal Stainless Steel, Black
We have had a no name food saver for quite awhile now and we thought it was doing a great job after using this we realized how wrong we were. The difference is night and day when it comes to air removal and sealing capabilities
Super quick set-up and then we were ready to use
Extremely simple directions to creating your own bags for sealing up foods
Machine is quick, efficient and quieter than I expected that it would be
Light turns off to let you know when sealing is done
Be careful and choose the correct vacuum setting that you’ll need
there is so much power here and removal that I was nervous we were going to crush the cereal that we were testing with. I’m certain we would have had we not used a super hard cereal to begin with
Extremely impressed with this little machine
Shannon : Excellent food saver
Best purchase ever. Works with ease and keeps food fresh.
Kalena2960 : Easiest Food Saver I've Ever Used
Just seriously the absolute easiest Food Saver I've ever used. After more than 20 years, and a few households I've used more than a couple. Not much in the way of footprint which is always nice. Some of these machines are just entirely too big. Bigger is not better. After slipping the bag across the sealing bar and closing the top, selecting your sealing or vacuum mode, simply flip the handle on the right side of the appliance. How great is that? Awesome. I love this thing and feel like buying an extra just so I'll have it for when this conks out. No appliance lasts forever and I'd rather not have to hunt the next best one in a few years. So, I'd definitely buy again and I've already recommended this specific model to friends.

Andrew Joseph Kalka : Worst food saver ever terrible design
This is my 3rd Food Saver brand vaccum sealer. I use it a lot so wore my other 2 out. The last and best one lasted me 14 yrs. This new one on the other hand is awful. Due to the new design and supposed improvements like it being "hands free" this is a big waste of money. Not just for the sealer itself but also the amount of waste in plastic. They moved the sealer back further and the angle design makes sure you're wasting at least 3 more inches of plastic per bag!!!! The cord is half the length and a pain to cram back in the small space it comes out of. I wish I would have used it sooner because it's past the time that I can return it. I'm so unhappy with it I'll be scouring ebay for my old version that was so good. Don't do it unless you plan on mostly using the additional can and jar sealer. Although I haven't I would hope that would work well.
Val : Efficient, works quickly to cut, seal and vacuum, mode selection for food type, marinade
Very efficient and compact model. It’s no wider than my tiny Amazon Alexa microwave. Food saver is only 16 inches long.
There is a vacuum selector mode for dry or moist food or you can pulse. You can also either vacuum or marinade. Which ever option I tried, it did the job incredibly well. The machine starts out very noisy but as it’s finishing up the vacuuming part it becomes very very quiet. That’s how you know it’s done. Then it auto seal in same step. Love it!
On the side of the machine there is a lever. Very simply it says open, store or operate. The top of the machine does show fingerprints.
The cord is incredibly short so just take a note. It’s no longer than two feet.
I tried operating the machine with a Ziploc bag as I searched on Google and it said it should work. it did not work! Neither sealing the Ziploc bag or vacuuming it. So just take a note you will need to buy their specific bags.

Ladyfingers : Great Vacuum Sealing System
I couldn’t be more pleased with this FoodSaver model. Upon arrival the unit looked a bit intimidating (I’ve never used a vacuum sealer before), but instructions are straightforward and easy to follow. After making a bag and inserting food, the machine does the rest of the work. One press of a button removes air and automatically seals the other end. When the light goes out, you’re done—it’s that easy. I wish I had gotten one of these years ago, but it’s never too late to start preserving food in a more efficient manner. That’s primarily how I use this machine, but it also has handheld capabilities that can be used with various accessories for items that need short-term preservation. This kitchen appliance is so convenient—it has custom settings and a built-in cutter bar to make food storage a quick and efficient process. I love it—my freezer has never looked so neat and food has never stayed so fresh.

GhostPants : Literally didnt work
There is nothing more to say besides that this didn't work straight out of the box. I was able to return and I bought the same one from Kohls for the same price and got Kohls cash for it :)

NAJA : Short cord
Love it.
Robert M. : Easy and effective.
Primarily used with the hand-held accessory and their containers and ziplock bags. All functions work and seems well engineered. Recommended.
Trung : Works awesome good air seal.
Very nice quality unit. Used to air seal all meats i buy in bulk at costco. Very easy to setup and use. Great addition to the kitchen no more freezer burned meats way better then zip lock bags.
