Answer: Our machine generates heat and blows it across the food in order to dehydrate it. It does not get excessively hot, but should probably be in the same temperature range as the hot water that comes out of your tap (110-120 degrees). Depends on your sensitivity to temperature as to whether that feels "really hot," but yes, there should be some heat generated when the unit is working,

If I were to have any complaint, there are small typos or syntax issues in the manual, but nothing that's not understandable. I think I saw 1 recipe that was mislabeled but otherwise, everything seems cool so far.

This is the best dehydrator I have ever used. It is easy to clean and has a quick dehydrate time. Great for deer jerky! What normally takes 10-12 hours to dehydrate, only took 6-7. There was also a great recipe book that came with the dehydrator. 100% recommend!

Just got the unit and it worked great on the first try with squash chips. Only took 6 hours for all six racks. Racks are a little hard to clean, but the dishwasher does a good job on them. Wish the temperature settings were variable within 5 degrees, but I will make due with the limitations.

Had a cheap one, many years ago. Didn't hold up for long and felt like a toy. This appliance has quality construction and isn't annoyingly loud. It doesn't get too hot, though to be safe --we're very cautious when it comes to heat, water and electricity in the house--, we placed it atop a large tile we had extra, sitting in our storage closet. Our countertop is laminate and though it would probably be safe, ceramic tile is extra safe.
In all, we're very pleased with this purchase and look forward to dehydrating liver and other organ treats for our pup, fruit, peppers, herbs and who know what else!

So far I really like it, Love the oblong shape as it doesn't take up a lot of counter space but goes up vertical for extra tray room. It has 6 stainless steel trays which is a plus. It dehydrates so much faster than my old "tv brand" dehydrator which had no options for temperature, on and off switch, or a fan. The reason I gave it a 4 star rating is because the trays need to have an edge lip to hold the food on the tray. As food dries and you remove and try to take it off, food tends to slide off, hence the reason for having trays with sides. That is the only plus to the "tv brand" vs the Nutrichef. I would also recommend Nutrichef include more plastic liners to put on the stainless steel trays. It comes with one plastic liner and one liner for making fruit wraps. I would like to see 6 plastic liners because when you dehydrate chopped vegetables they fall through the trays as they dehydrate. I purchased plastic canvas and cut to fit each tray as I was doing 6 trays at a time of chopped onions, then corn and beans. I highly recommend this dehydrator. It is also very quiet.

Nice looking, sturdy unit that does a very nice job dehydrating fruit (and warming up the basement while in operation). Good air circulation and even drying on multiple racks. Easy controls. Only problem was it did not work out of the box. The fan blade was detached from the electric motor hub (missing a bolt) so while the heater worked it did not circulate air. Rather than immediately repacking and returning, I removed the back of unit and found a replacement bolt to attach the fan and it now seems to be working fine. Annoying but fixable. Other than that quality control issue, the unit seems well designed - but can't give a better review given the issue.

I’ve use this for vegetables in my garden after I purchased it. It replaced an old Oster dehydrator that I had. With plastic shelves. I am very pleased that this one has stainless steel shelves very easy to clean and cut the dehydration time in half. I would recommend this.

This is my first dehydrator and we love it. My daughter and I are looking forward to making homemade teas, soup bullion, and dehydrated fruits. Also Jerky!!!!
If I were to have any complaint, there are small typos or syntax issues in the manual, but nothing that's not understandable. I think I saw 1 recipe that was mislabeled but otherwise, everything seems cool so far.
It is extremely easy to use and well worth the money.
