Answer: Yes, it can. However larger fish move faster, so you have to throw it with good technique. I use mine to catch mullet, which average 1 to 1 1/2 pounds each.

Answer: When you cast throw it out and it will grab the fish. Then you pull the net towards you and pull it out the water.

I would NOT recommend buying this net. I used for less than 2 months and the weights rusted and stuck together. It also stained my shorts. I am not sure why they wouldn’t use lead weights or other materials that do not rust. Wasted money for sure.

Moon : Rusting weights

I do like the net but there are two issues I have with it. Number one issue is that the weights were some metal, not lead, that rust. The second issue is that the brail line clip did not hold the lines in place and when the net got caught on something, the lines on one side would pull and shorten the lines on the opposite side and needed to be readjust.
I do the the longer line and size. I will continue to use it until the weights rust away.

I have only used this net a few times. The description says the weights are lead, but my weights are rusting so bad it is making a rusty mess anywhere I put it. I would look for something with real lead weights that don’t rust and avoid this.

I wanted a 10ft net, but didn't want to pay the big bucks for a top brand. I've been using cast nets for 35 years, and know A LOT about them. I thought I'd give this one a try b/c the reviews seemed OK. The durability was good in regards of the net - I've seen weaker nets. I thought it was strong for the price. The horn didn't seem like it would last in the long run though. The issue I had with the net was when I threw it (in the yard) to test it out, it would not open all the way. Again, I've been throwing nets for 35 years, I know how to throw. The issue is that the net is not supple and it won't pancake very well. So, the 10 foot net would only open up like a 6 foot net. Maybe if it was used a lot, it may become more supple and open easier, but for it it didn't work. Also, there really isn't enough weight on the 10ft net to create enough centrifugal force to spread the net out. Maybe the 4 and 6 foot nets work better, but the 10 foot didn't work well for me. So, strong net - just wouldn't open well.

The net is OK, but be aware it is VERY light. This makes throwing it easy, but sinks slower then most.

some of the other reviews almost put me off buying this but since it was only 20$ I hoped beyond hope it actually worked. my personal experience is this I've bought some more expensive ones 65-70, I've gone through 5 of those Betts old salt cast nets on here, and undoubtedly those are better by leaps and bounds. I use these castanets in the rural Mississippi delta where there's a lot of debris in the water and with that, I've gone through quite a few of these so I wanted to try this cheaper one because it was kinda worth it but boy it was getting expensive. in my experience, big water-born debris such as trees tires rebar, etc will rip most cast nets. I say this to speak about the durability of this product. I've used it a few months now and have used it to catch many baitfish and some larger ones. it has held up very well with no rips but I am confident if this net encounters any real resistance it will start to rip. even with that said if it does rip, I could replace this for way less, being only 20 dollars and performing this well I am very pleased. It's been a few months now of consistent use and no problems. but like really virtually the same performance but at 1/3 the cost. also when my Betts cast nets would rip easy patch up can fix them but i bet when this rips patching it wont help much at all. but it's just 20 so eh kinda not worth the time to fix in my opinion. also I felt comfortable teaching my little cousin to throw using this one because I would be a lot less mad if he broke this one tbh.

TL: DR It's good for the price but spending more will get you better quality. which is to be expected honestly. all that said if you're not like me and fish in the ocean/sea or ponds with little debris this baby should last a while. probably would be useful to worry-free teach a little one to use the net.

I very much like this product, but if you are expecting something light weight then you are mistaken, considering the fact that it has WEIGHTS on the bottom of it. But other than that it is very fun to use, and works great, unfortunately it did break, but that is because of user error, my friend decided to cast it into the most rocky part of our little pond/lake and caught a big boulder... to put it short it snapped off. there was no chance of us saving it.

I ordered this to use for saltwater bait fish. I was hoping for something with durability, this is not it. First day out and full of holes. I am not what I would call hard om my gear. Most of the holes were just from small snags. If you are looking for a cast net that will hold up this is not it. Spend the extra money and get something that will last.

Not for me.. I usually use a 4ft.. Got the 6ft.. It came with the bag instead of the fish net majig, bag immediately fell apart.. The weights would hit everyones hands upon throwing it, the net cought on an oyster rock and shredded.. So.. Idk.. Just not for me.

Its a good net great for almost any baitfish. Except finger mullet. The holes are just big enough to snag every single mullets gill plates. Tried shaking them loose and ended up with a bunch of headless mullet. Works great for mehadden, bluegill, or any panfish shaped bait, but not finger mullet and id assume shiners would run into the same issue. Will be looking for a net with smaller mesh in the future.

I have never written a review but felt this one should be done. So I ordered this bet solely based off of most of the reviews. I ordered the 10 ft the first one I received was clearly used, what gave it away was the rust and huge tear in it. I get a replacement that was done fast atleast. I was excited to use it because I have a smart one and thought this would be so much better. Third cast it gets caught on a relatively small rock and ripped a decent hole into it but was still usable. I used it maybe 3 times and the weights are ridiculously rusted already and not to mention when you go for a second cast the line is so thin the net does not open properly.

It's more of a type of metal, maybe aluminum which is hollow and not attached to the line, so it moves left and right, causing the line to fray easy over time and damage the netting as well. It's a good bargain at the price but in my experience it wouldn't last but one year of heavy use. Plus it's super lightweight which is good for throwing alot and trying to find the right bait. But it doesn't sink fast enough to get bait being so light. Good for shallow water but anything over 4 feet of water good luck.

This is a great little cast net. The netting seems well made and fairly heavy-duty. The weights are smooth and shaped in a way that helps to prevent tangles. Very easy to throw. The "trap" that comes with it is rather disappointing. You can lower it down in the water and have the mouth stay open. It shuts just under its own weight. I bought this for the net though so I'm very satisfied. Comes with a handle little case and stows in a small space. Very happy...!!!!!

I bought the prior to a trip to Baja California. The instructions were clear and within two or three tries I had it casting great.
After ten days of intermittent use I did one final cast and the rope separated from the wrist strap. So now I am left with only a lovely neoprene bracelet.

The net is a decent wait which makes throwing it pretty easy. However the overall quality is questionable. The net has started tearing at the horn just after a few throws. The lead line has multiple tears and makes it tangle more and more. This net I would not recommend. It breaks far too quickly.
