Answer: The dehydrator does give off heat, but not excessively. I only notice the heat when I'm standing within roughly 1-2 feet from it. The front cover gets very warm, depending on temp setting. The rest of it, except the back, it warm to touch.

Answer: About an inch if u use all the trays. However if u have larger items to dehydrate you may use less trays giving you more space between the trays. This is easy as the trays are removable and adjustable in placement

Answer: No. With this dehydrator I have not had to rotate trays due to uneven drying like I did with my Cabela dehydrator.

Why does the front glass start to fall out when the dehydrator has been on for a while? We have to prop something against it to keep it all together.

Answer: I have never had this problem although I have heard it before from others. If any of the trays are left open you risk loosening or possibly breaking the glass as there is no safety for this. You have to remember to push the trays all the way in before shutting the door.

Answer: Definitely NOT supposed to do that! That sounds like a defect and a dangerous safety hazard. Can you return the dehydrator?

Answer: Mine has never had this issue. But the glue gets hot and separates. Go to a hardware store and get clear silicone adhesive. glue along the boarder and push the glass back in. Let dry for 2 days. Can also use a 2-part epoxy.

It came with 7 metal trays, a couple trays for fruit roll ups and I think or one more for foods that drip. I believe you can call the number and find someone to speak to, so here is the information:

Answer: Yes, it comes with a booklet. I use the wire racks to make jerky, and I put a plastic tray on the bottom to catch drippings. You don’t have to use the plastic if you don’t want to. I LOVE MINE! It’s very easy to use.

Answer: I got 11 metal (stainless) trays and 2 plastic trays. Very nice unit just dont forget to push the trays in all the way before you shut the door. Glass could break.

How long will it preserve food?

Answer: This product dries food. How long the food will taste fresh or even be edible depends on the food, how dry you get it in this machine, then how you store it after that. Some foods if dried very well, then stored in airtight containers with silica drying packets, can easily last months or in some cases years. This machine dries foods as well as any other dehydrator. To do better your would have to freeze-dry, and those machines are not affordable for consumers.

Answer: That would depend on the food and how dry it goes into storage. All I can say with any authority is that my dried tomatoes have lasted very well since late September, along with all the herbs and spices from the same time. I think the herbs will last indefinitely, just lose flavor as they age. I can say the dehydrator does work well and easily and was a huge help in the humid weather we had this past Fall.

Great dehydrator. Have made like 10 batches of beef jerky now. Metal shelves for easy machine washing after you're done. LED monitor with button controls work great. No complaints. The noise is audible but easy to tune out, and if you're 1 room separate it's inaudible, even with the door open.

Used it only "once" over a 3-4 day timeframe to dry tomatoes and then herbs. It worked very well, easy to use, you could monitor everything, stop for a bit, and continue. I was a little reluctant to purchase a dehydrator online without actually getting my hands on it as one would in-store. The machine is very quiet and the controls are simple. It is large enough to make a weeks worth of snacks for the family. I have made several batches of fruit and veggie chips which have turned out great, along with a couple of batches of jerky using the online "Jack links" recipe recreation. Very pleased with my purchase. The stainless screens are a bit of a pain to clean banana and tomato off of. That is really my only issue.

I am very happy with this dehydrator. The metal and plastic trays make this adaptable to different recipes. The timer and temp control are fantastic and easy to operate. First the pros:
Small footprint and quiet operation.
Attractive on the countertop (looks like a small oven or something). Not ugly like the big round dehydrators from the 1990s.
Plenty of dehydrating space. 10 shelves each 12" x 13". More than 10 square feet of space.
Very efficient. I've dried herbs very quickly (about 24 hours) with a great finished product.
Bonus: You can use this as a plate warmer. Standard (and even larger) plates will fit 1 per shelf. As a frequent sous vide user, I love having warm plates to serve the perfectly cooked, but a little cool on the outside, dishes. Warm plates keep the feed in the target zone longer.
Bonus2: With most of the shelves removed, you can use this dehydrator to keep your food warm while you finish the rest of the meal.

Cons:
You can not set any temperature. The range is sufficient (95F - 165F) but each push of the button raises/lowers the temperature by 10 degrees so you can have 105F but not 100F. Dehydrating & plate warming isn't that precise an activity so this is a very small nuisance.
When you press Start (Start/Stop button) it starts in RAW mode (10 hours at 165) and you have to adjust accordingly. It doesn't remember that you are drying herbs for 24 hours at 95F. Again a small inconvenience.

It may just be me as I move quickly in the kitchen, but sometimes when I close the door my hand bumps the start/stop button (I'm not sure how as it is not that close) shutting the machine down. When you restart, the previous settings aren't saved so you need to set the time/temperature again.

For the price, I don't think you can beat this plate warmer, food dehydrator and dough proofer. Once you have this in your kitchen, you will agree.

Very quiet. We have an open concept living/kitchen room and the fan noise level is barely audible. The alarm is sufficiently loud. This came with 2 mesh trays. Although the item is nice to look it, it is really big! I tried it a couple times, and while it can hold quite a large amount of food to dry, I don't think it really does a great job of actually drying it. I loved that the temp was easy to adjust. And it could stay warm. But overall, I was not as happy with this as I expected it to be. I contacted Amazon to return and they sent me a code to bring to UPS with instructions to forego a box, as UPS would pack and ship it to them...then I got there and HAD TO BUY A BOX to ship it! $8.92!! Needless to say, I was quite upset! Considering I tossed the box because of the Covid 19 scare and didn't want to bring it in my house! So I'm a bit peeved. If you say I don't need a box, I'm not bringing one. Or did they just tell me this to make a box sale???

The only thing I have a problem with is, I had to figure out if the food is dehydrated. I understand that it is a number of things to consider on the outside like humidity and temperature, but I had to take my own notes & look up a whole lot. The recipe book is nice & helpful, but you still have to figure out what they mean by it.

The operation, cleaning, every other part is awesome. Love it & playing with it.

It's amazing for beginners looking into dehydration. I used the plastic tray dehydrators in the beginning, but they were extremely hard to clean because of the little nooks. The metal trays make cleaning super easy by just poping them into the dishwasher. Temp control is pretty good as well. The jerky comes out fairy consistent. The dehydrator can hold quite a bit of stuff I was able to get about 8 pounds of beef at one time.

Got this as an upgrade to my existing Presto. Love the Magic Mill. The trays are metal and easy to remove/clean. It does nearly double the amount of product, and has a timer so I don't need to worry about forgetting. Also adjustable heat for different types of food. Overall a big upgrade!

This is my first dehydrator and if you decorate iced sugar cookies a lot of people use these to speed up the drying process and keep the icing shiney when dry. Really worked nicely but I don't have anything to compare it to. But I will say this most recent batch of cookies had none of the issues that can sometimes plague a cookie decorator so no craters or dips in the icing. Cookies came out nice and shiney.

tried two of these dehydrators neither one worked correctly. Both units would not heat above 145F when set to 165F. Not safe to dry jerky at that low a temp

Much better appliance than those round tower dehydrators, this one is better made with plenty of room for its size,very quiet and does the job. I was worried about uneven drying between the racks my fears were unfounded. I have done two loads of Antelope jerky and they are perfect.

It is so quiet, you don't know it is running. I have made 2 orders of jerky and they have turned out perfect. The only thing I would ask for is a on/off power button.

I have had other dehydrators. None compare to this Magic Mill dehydrator. I dehydrated 9 trays of pineapple and starfruit. All trays dried the same. No uneven drying. I recommend the 10 tray if you have fruit and or vegetables gardens. My starfruit tree has at least 200 more starfruit. I already ate and gave away at least 20. I plan to dehydrate and vacuum seal excess that should last until the next season. Freezing the vacuum sealed fruit should last 4 ever!

Beware if you are buying this to make deer/beef jerky. Internal temperature would only get up to 150 degrees. Not safe enough for dehydrate jerky. Other than that, a decent unit.

Oh wow, so much better than my old Cabela's bottom fan dehydrator. This unit has opened up so many possibilities, and dries everything much better. Temp is a little optimistic, but pretty close. I love the timer function so I don't over dry, but you still have to watch things until you discover the right time. But that means I can go on and do things and not over-dry my jerky.

marty schweer : A must have food dehydrator.

This is what I was looking for in a food dehydrator. Very easy to use, easy to clean, very quiet when running. Simple setting instructions, in a easy to read and follow pamphlet included. Comes with temperature and time references for many fruits and vegetables. I have made beef jerky and various dried fruit, with pleasant success. All of this at an affordable price. I'll be back when I wear this one out. Winner!

Doesn't work properly, maybe because it arrived damaged. Packaging was fine, but the product itself was cracked (see pic)

The appearance, size, and metal racks are fine. It is pretty quiet machine. The only bad part is the black case is ‘plastic’ not metal. I missed the return period so can only keep it. Sad :(

This dehydrator works really. I did several batches of peaches and it all turned out well. It gives off a lot of heat so be sure that you have very good venting.

I really really like it. I bought it for beef jerky and it makes it so fast. Much better than the older round dehydrators. The trays are easy to clean. It’s not huge but not too small, just the right size. I would recommend it.

Its wonderful I do have a hard time setting the temp but my husband doesn't. I still would buy it again The only thing I wish it had was a light on the inside it so dark to see to clean and or look at your food while its cooking.

I have used NESCO dehydrators for years, left my old one behind in a move so I thought I would try something different. I have not been disappointed, quiet and efficient, fits a lot of food on stainless steel racks. Litteraly just turn it on and ignore it. Only downside is the temperature goes in increments of 10, I wish it did increments of 5. So you will need to modify your times a bit and towards the end keep checking doneness of your snacks to find the new time lines for recipes
