Answer: Why would you want to re-seal an MRE, you can't replicate the MAP packaging unless you have food grade nitrogen setup.

Answer: It has an adjustable thermostat!!!!! It will work, but kinda overkill

Answer: I don't know the max but it easily seals 7 mil Mylar.

Is this an impulse sealer or constant?

Answer: It is constant and is a crimp and seal type. The seal is very wide and has a lined pattern to it. We have a few we use for sealing very large bags and they are good, although I would have preferred it be impulse. If you hold it too long you may burn right through your bag.

The best way to try this is to set different positions and use it on a test bag - counting seconds until you get the seal you want without melting everything, and recording your results. I set mine at 150, and counted 5 seconds on a 5 mil bag - worked well (105c - three one thousand works well too). It has Teflon sealing edges - so you won't stick to it if you melt an edge too far. I would ignore the degree setting and use a laser temp meter (about $10 bucks at the auto parts store) if you really want to graph out your settings, and mark your own optimal positions on the dial. The dial itself is a bit loose, but functional. Well worth the money. Makes 5 line crinkle edges, and is of course the same generic model with a different name every one else is selling. Be careful!! This unit gets hot fast and can seriously burn you if you ignore safety precautions and grab an edge by mistake. ADDON: Part of the problem is holding the edge of the bag while aligning everything. I used two hacksaw blades bolted together with the edges ground down. They will hold the bag closed and the edge straight - works like a charm, see pics. Oh - and the blades are brittle, so don't bend them too much.

I sent the query to the seller and they quickly sent me the replacement.
Now I am happy for a sealing machine of very good quality.

Seals heavy Mylar bags easily

Received a used product with a damaged temperature control knob. Otherwise it works fine but only for thicker materials, as the minimum temperature are a bit to much for some things. Unless you have a very specific need, you're probably better off with a cheaper impulse sealer.

It worked as advertised. Love the multiple heat settings available. And the teflon surface makes it useable on everything, even PE although it states it's not for PE use, but on a low setting it works just fine for my needs.
Arrived quicker than indicated and was packaged nicely.

I purchased an impact sealer to seal bags of coffee. The sealer was one of the standard ones with the handle that pushes down. It actually worked quite well. The problem, the coffee bags that I ordered were made out of mylar and were a tad on the thicker side. The smaller sealer just couldn't get the job done. I bought this sealer and it WORKS LIKE A CHAMP!!! Airtight/watertight seal every time! And the five rows of seals gives the bag a nice professional looking edge like it got sealed at a big factory or something. I gave it four stars because my ONLY knock against it is that it doesn't come with a case or bag to store it in when not in use. Other than that, this does the job!

I read the reviews, and was expecting it to be crappy.

The temperature adjustment knob is trash, it spins every which way without a clear position... It melts my polypropylene bags because i cant adjust the temperature.

I bought it with the purpose of hacking it. It probably works well out of the box for some plastics, but because the adjustment know was trash for me, and there are no instruction inside the box, i'm giving it the two stars.

The tool has potential, but not out of the box for me...
