Q:
Has anyone used this to bake audio tapes that suffer from sticky shed syndrome?
Q:
Does this make a lot of noise?
Answer: In my opinion it is hardly noticeable. About like a nice oscillating fan at the most. I tried a couple of others (round with fans in the bottom) and the noise was horrible. The unit works well and it is very quiet.
Answer: I found this dehydrated to be a lot quieter than my old one it is a great deal faster also
Answer: This dehydrator is really fairly quiet. I've only dehydrated vegetables in it so far. It did a great job

Answer: 13" long and 12" wide.
Q:
Can this be used to dry icing on cookies?

Q:
Does it have a hanging rack?
Answer: No it does not. Just drawers. But every other drawer coukd be left out if you have something thicker that needs to be dried
Answer: No it doesn't.
Answer: No not that I know of.
Q:
Can I make black garlic in this?
Answer: It only goes up to just under 160 degrees. I don't know how hot you would need it to make black garlic but even if it does, it would take WEEKS for it to become black garlic.
Q:
Is it free volt or volt changer required? Here in Korea, we use 220V.

Answer: This model is 110V.
Answer: Mine came with a 120v plug.

Answer: Plastic
Q:

Answer: If you don't want any heat, why don't you just hang your items out on the backyard clothes line and save the electricity?
Q:
What is the lowest temprature it holds? Wanting to use to make yogurt as well
Answer: The lowest was 140. I know, because I wanted to use 135 to dehydrate some fruit and it wouldn't go that low.
Answer: Goes down to 94. I make jerky thin, drys for 15 hours
Q:
Can you recommend a stepup transformer for this product - need to use it with a 220-240V powerpoint?

Will this machine freeze dry fruit and berries?
Answer: Freeze drying (lyophilization) involves first freezing the fruits to -50°C (−58 °F) and −80 °C (−112 °F) and then creating a vacuum to enable the sublimation of water - it goes from solid (ice) directly to gas (steam), skipping the liquid (water) phase. It requires rather heavy (and expensive!) machinery. Search Wikipedia for "lyophilization" for more info.
Answer: No it will not "Freeze Dry" anything.
Q:
How much space is between trays?
Answer: Very little space. Maybe 1/4", but trays can be left out to create more room for thick items

Answer: No
Q:

Answer: If you mean “drawers” then yes... easily. But wash them in the sink not in dishwasher.

Q:
Whats the wattage of the unit
Answer: I believe 480 watts
Q:
Where can I buy more of the protective food (mesh) sheets that came with this one? There is only one.
Answer: You can buy them here on Amazon but honestly, depending what you are using them for, you can just use parchment paper. I think they would just be under a generic brand on here but just make sure it's the right size
Q:
Our unit is very loud. Any suggestions?
Answer: I put mine in an area of my garage
Q:
Where can I buy screens?
Q:
Does this product dehydrate nuts and seeds? I looked through all the answered questions and most of the comments and didn't see any ans to that.
Answer: I suggest that you put the nuts in the oven Or a cast iron skillet. Nuts are usually be toasted/ roasted and it would require some trial and error to determine how long to leave them in a dehydrator and at what temperature. Nuts don’t need to be dehydrated but if you want that roast honey flavor... a skillet is the best option otherwise use an oven you don’t need a dehydrator for nuts they don’t have much moisture.
Q:
I've read that meat should be dehydrated at 165 degrees, but this only goes up to 158 degrees. Can I dehydrate meat in this?
Answer: Yes, I dehydrate beef regularly and have never had a problem.
Answer: yes. We do BJ all the time
Q:
What is the high & low temp range of this dehydrater?
Answer: 104 - 158 degrees
Q:
Can i cook a Whole chicken in there?
Answer: This is a dehydrator.....not an oven/fryer????
Answer: No temperature will not go high enough.
Answer: No
Q:
How noisy is this machine?
Answer: Not loud at all. It has a soft fan sound. Very quiet.
Q:
i have some recipes that call for a 20 hour drying time, at 114 degrees, can this machine do this?
Answer: I don't have the machine like the one pictured but the same brand. The timer won't go to 20 hrs but you can go to 10 hrs twice.
Answer: I gave this as a gift to my son, for his jerky making. If anything it would cut drying time in half ????
Answer: Sorry, can't help. Have never had any luck producing an edible product with this machine.
Q:
GOOD EVENING. I WOULD LIKE TO USE MINE TO HAVE A RAW PLANT BASE DIET. IS THERE EVENYONE USE THIS MACHINE FOR THE SAME?
Answer: I have not but it should work fine.
Q:
Are the racks stainless?
Answer: No, BPA free plastic
Q:
Does this have ptfe, pfoa or Teflon coating?
Answer: Its a Dehydrator, its made of BPA free plastic.
Q:
can you freeze dry candy like jolly ranchers and bit o honey in this machine?
Answer: This a dehydrator, not for freeze drying.
Answer: no you can't.
Q:
Has anyone ever had an E1 in the digital reading? Mine does and it won’t do anything! I just got it today and am so bummed about it!!!
Answer: This won't help, but ours didn't work right out of the box. I read the reviews and saw lots of people had problems. I would send it back.
Q:
How long do you dry blue berries and what temperature? Instruction said 36 hours!
Answer: I’d suggest letting them a bit dehydrate naturally before putting them in the machine. Blueberries tend to shrink and lose most of its juices when left in the fridge or on the countertop in a shallow container. This should help reduce the dehydration time suggested.
Q:
Are we able to use parchment paper on the shelves?
Answer: yes
Q:
Can you make venison jerky in this using venison burger?
Answer: Probably
Q:
If this dehydrator loses power will it start back up when the power is back?
Answer: It will not the timer will need to be pressed again
Q:
Being it's horizontal, can you cover trays with aluminum foil while dehydrating without disturbing the dehydration too much?
Answer: You can but it would diminish the purpose of the trays being slotted so that the air can flow around the food
Answer: I would not use aluminum foil, since the idea is that it is dehydrating the air and in turn the fruit/food, and you want air circulation, and foil would inhibit that. The air should also touch the bottom of the fruit/food, and that is why there are apertures in the trays.
Answer: I haven’t tried it but covering the trays might reduce the airflow.
Answer: I would use parchment paper or one of the silicone liners before using foil simply for noise reasons, but yes, you can line the trays without disturbing the process too much.
Q:
Do you need to use food dehydrator sheets with this?
Answer: It depends on what your putting on the trays. My wife puts sugar cookies in ours. We just ordered the amazon silicone baking mats and cut them to fit the trays (cheaper solution)
Answer: No.
Q:
How long does it take or banana chips to get crispy?
Answer: 8 to 10 hours depending on thickness
Answer: Depends on how thick your slices are
Q:
How tall is it?
Answer: It is about 12 inchs tall...
Answer: Never got to use it. One was broken when I got it, reordered and got a defective one. Didn’t want to take a chance on a 3rd one.
Q:
Can you dry flowers with this?
Answer: Never tried, but I would assume that you could.
Q:
Can ir be used to dry fondant?
Answer: I wish I could specifically help you, but I ordered this for a Christmas present for someone else.
Answer: No, don't think so.
Product reviews of Gourmia GFD1680 Countertop Electric Food Dehydrator - 6 Drying Trays - Digital Countdown Timer - Preset Temperature Settings - Recipe Book Included
Rusty Shackleford : Quiet
Nice little unit. It’s very nicely built, and in my opinion quite attractive. It’s very easy to use and clean. We’ve had a week now, and we’ve pretty well run it nonstop. I’ve dehydrated: apples, bananas, strawberries, and pineapples. But, for me the most impressive thing is how nice and quiet it is. Some units are very loud, but this little gem is only about as loud as a refrigerator.
Hickoryknot : I like it
First use yesterday to do 4.5 lbs of deer jerky. It worked extremely well. It enabled me to do the process under my carport which kept the smell out of the house and out of the way. I processed it for 6.5 hours which may have been a little to long. The fan is really quite.
Jason&Amanda : Doesn't work
The product came out of the box, plugged in and beeped one time and shut off. It does not work at all.
SM : Broken after 3 uses
This dehydrator worked great the 1st 3 times used. Now the fan isn't working. If you want something that is going to last don't buy this.
Patty : Great dehydrator for the price
I've been dehydrating fruit leathers and vegetables. It's been great & easy to use. It's not very loud which is great. Others I've used were so noisy, but this one is pretty quite! I like the auto timer so I can dehydrate overnight
DMP & CLA : Love It!
I purchased one for me and then later one for my daughter. We both love the ease in using this for fruit, peppers and tomatoes. Yum! We will try meats later.
Pearson Justis : Faulty Manufacturing
Bought the product and used it for maybe 4-5 months and it broke. Messages them and got a free replacement, and in even less time it also broke. Broke as in just completely glitches out and will not run. Would highly recommend you look elsewhere.
mufffin : Just great
Nice size, easy to work with. Just what I wanted.
DKSHAMAN : Very Good Product As Advertised
Super dehydrator does everything extremely well!!!
SRsage : I never knew I needed this in my life until I purchased one!!
My first use of the machine was Terriyaki Garlic Beef Jerky using carne asada. It came out better than anything I have ever purchased in a store. The Gourmia is quiet and it will beep a few times making you aware when your food is finished. The recipe guide it came with has a few good starters to try. Overall, we are now making our own snacks and saving a lot of money and cutting down on sugar and artificial food additives.
Mike J. : Makes Awesome Jerky!
In my experience, it heats up to where it is supposed to be within a reasonable amount of time. I have used it to make fantastic jerky with venison meat. Apples and bananas are still chewy and have a great natural flavor without adding anything besides lemon juice to prevent browning.
I don't understand the bad reviews. It beeps when you plug it in, then you have to hit Start and adjust the time/temperature. Also don't expect "banana candy" by dehydrating bananas. Your dried banana isn't going to be like the banana chips from the store that are fried in oil and usually have added sugar.
It does what it is supposed to, comes with a decent little recipe book, and seems to be very durable thus far. It's not as loud as I expected and I trust its capabilities a lot more than the vertical heating/stacking dehydrators.
I wish it came with more accessories for doing fruit leathers. I'll probably order some teflon sheets before trying that. It does take up a fair bit of counter space, but holds a good amount on the 6 racks.
Aron lefkowitz : Very useful
Bought it for my wife as a gift and she loves it. She basically uses it for fruits, but can turn anything into a healthy snack????. Worth every penny.
SRQ Shopaholic : Great machine!!!
Best dehydrated I've purchased so far. We started using this as soon as it arrived. We've processed beef for jerkey, and different fruits. My favorite fruit is strawberries. Fantastic machine. Highly recommended it.
alter deitsch : Just like Commerciel grade
Great product!!! Bought for Christmas and have been using it ever since. Was able to wow my guests with all sorts of party treats from jerky to dehydrated fruit. Very convenient and easy to use. Arrived at my door two days after placing the order.
lisa : Good, but not good
This, design wise is awesome and has almost everything I'm looking for.
The temperature is why I gave only 3 stars instead of 5.
The temp moves in weird increments, and doesnt let me dehydrate above 150...or at 115 degrees (which is ideal) Doesnt seem to heat properly either. My 8 hour raw sandwich bread recipe took 3 days.
I love the design, but the temperature is an issue for me.
Daniel Gonzalez : I did not use this for its intended purpose!!!
I purchased this as a large filament dryer for 3D printer filament. I have to say, it works like a charm and looks darn good in my office.
Fits 3-4 standard rolls of filament (1KG) and the removable shelves are sturdy enough to hold them and also makes it so you can put less large rolls and add some smaller rolls on another shelf.
Only note that I knew about going in but would have been a cool feature is that the temp. settings are presets and not customizable, so it you want say 145F you will need to choose from either 140F or 149F. Not a huge deal but something to consider for those that will use it like me.
Thanks for a great quality product!

Amazon Customer : Poor quality
It is just over a year old (so its out of warranty) and has only been used 5 to 6 times and the internal fan has quit working.. warranty department said since it is over a year old they won't do anything. Do yourself a favor and buy a higher quality dehydrator.
A Smith : Excellent buy!
I made beef jerky for the first time using this. It was amazing! I love that it has so much capacity, and it's very easy to clean. At first I was disappointed in the plastic trays, but now I don't care, they'll never rust!

Amazon Customer : Good product
Works great made beef jerky and banana chips does a great job
Patti McNary Murphy : Durable, easy to use and accurate distribution of the air
So over the top happy with this! Distribution of the air is perfect. The ease is perfect… Trays hurt easily accessible to check your items as they do you hydrate. I would say the directions are not ver so over-the-top happy with this! Distribution of the air is perfect. The ease is perfect… Trays are easily accessible to check your items as they dehydrate.
andthentheend : Pefect!
Have dehydrated a bunch of Pineapple and salmon, it works great.
Jlc209 : Cancer and reproductive harm?
Was excited to use this but when I turned the box over it said this product may cause cancer or reproductive harm. I wish this was stated somewhere before buying it or I wouldn’t of. I also would like information on where that chemical is located because the trays are plastic. So every time I use this will the chemicals be leaching into my food? Thinking about returning this product for a different one.
Vicki Sandridge : Disappointing
We had this dehydrator for less than a year. We used it about 6 times making beef jerky. It now will not work. We have an error code when we start it and cannot clear the code. It no longer works. It did work great while it operated, but so not worth the price paid for a half dozen batches of jerky.
Rebel : The best dehydrators I've ever used
It work amazingly it's about the size of a microwave but it works great you set the temperature and set the time and it counts down and turns off by itself I've made 3 things of deer jerky and it turned out awesome
William R. : Shut up and take my money!
Very impressed. I just purchased this item, used it once so far. It is light and easy to move, so quite that I even forgot it was running. Planning on calling up Rachel Ray this weekend and making a large batch of stuff. Even bought some jars for storage
Chris B : Item performs as advertised
Item performs as advertised. Worked as expected and I hope the plastic trays hold up over time. As long as any meat dehydrated is low fat it should be easy to clean. It has a tray in the bottom to catch any drippings. I currently have no complaints.
Robert : Good buy.
Simple to use and clean. Makes great beef jerky in 4-5 hours (1/4" thick) and we love it. This smaller unit seems to dry the food out pretty evenly without swapping trays around.
Connor McKenzy Hall : Love it
Easy to use, comes with timing guide to assist with new users. Love this machine!!!
Amazon Customer : Comes with Cookbook!
This product came right on time! It came with a cookbook which was a great surprise. Haven't used it yet, but all looks good and excited to get cooking!
alter deitsch : Just like Commerciel grade
Great product!!! Bought for Christmas and have been using it ever since. Was able to wow my guests with all sorts of party treats from jerky to dehydrated fruit. Very convenient and easy to use. Arrived at my door two days after placing the order.
Blake Watanabe : Works great!
Love it so far. I have done different fruits and over 20 lbs of meat so far and very impressed.
Colleen : Better then expected!!
This is my second time buying a dehydrator. The first one was a flop. It was plastic, noisy, and took a long time to dehydrate. So when ordering this my hopes weren't too high but I love this one. The size is not too big. It's about half the size of my microwave but it holds a ton of food. The 6 trays are super easy to clean. The fan being in the back is way better too because the food cooks more evenly. It's also very quiet. The controls are very sleek and easy to use. Just an all around great dehydrator!!
mufffin : Just great
Nice size, easy to work with. Just what I wanted.
clarence : Recommend it great product
I love how easy this is to use and clean and the made so many dried mushrooms and fruits with it! The size itself is actually perfect for my apartment counter space
Jacob Hughes : Mediocre at best and not for jerky.
The product is useless for beef jerky. It does not maintain a safe temperature. The door does not see or completely at the hinge contributing to heat loss. The device is easy to use however the temperature range is limited and only increases and decreases by 9° increments. The sturdiness is questionable but the design is clean. I wish it had a light on the inside so I could see the food. I wouldn’t recommend this product. Go for something with a brand name and maybe higher price range.
Crissy79 : Broke so fast!
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband, he used it one to make beef jerky when he went to use it a second time it didn’t turn on. It worked great the first time so sad it broke so fast.
Patrick A. Donley : Blah.
Nothing special. You dont get to choose your own temp. There is only 3-4 preset temps . Not what I wanted.
Michael Mahony : Great. A bit warm, but great.
Daily production for an at home business. It is great. I understand its a dehydrator but it lets off more heat than i expected. Nothing too crazy but living in a warm climate, its just warmer than i expected. But it works amazingly well! Highly recomend this dehydrator.
TheGreatCO : A No Frills Dehydrator
I bought this product primarily to dry fruits/vegetables and meats. I haven't had a chance to dry any meats yet, however I have had a chance to dry beets (for chips) and mangoes. Overall, this is a decent dehydrator, however it has a few drawbacks.
Cons: 1. The heat distribution leaves a bit to be desired. I strongly recommend you make use of an external thermometer when drying meats to ensure the correct temperature is reached. In my experience the highest temperatures are at the back of the unit (closest to the heating coil). The front of the unit can be 5-10 degrees cooler than the readout on the display. 2. The racks are an absolute pain to hand wash with their intricate small openings. The manual says the trays are not dishwasher safe, so you're stuck doing it by hand. This can take quite some time.
Pros: 1. Simple to use (I cannot stress this enough) 2. Quiet. I can barely hear it even when I'm in the kitchen. 3. Large internal space (Holds about 3 beets or about 4 mangoes for drying) 4. Exterior is fairly cool even after many hours of running (I ran for 28 hours straight)
Jason&Amanda : Doesn't work
The product came out of the box, plugged in and beeped one time and shut off. It does not work at all.
Amazon Customer : Bomb!
Love this thing. Made a couple of batches of beef jerky and they were amazing. Did dried cherry tomatoes and they were like eating candy. Very easy to use and clean. Def recommend.
Amazon Customer : I love it!!
I love this dehydrator I dehydrate all kinds of vegtables, fruit, fruit rollups. Easy to use, very quiet!
Amazon Customer : I love it!!
I love this dehydrator I dehydrate all kinds of vegtables, fruit, fruit rollups. Easy to use, very quiet!
Skip Oskey : Don’t like this product
This dehydrator is not what I expected I tried to dry a batch of teriyaki didn’t do it as long as it asked for dried the turkey jerky out to where you could need it I tried to dehydrate some fruit had to do it for about triple the time it was requested my bananas are still mushy rubbery don’t like the product at all I would like to return it I need a return label I don’t like the return code because my UPS person that picks it up does not have capability of scanning I need a return label please
SRQ Shopaholic : Great machine!!!
Best dehydrated I've purchased so far. We started using this as soon as it arrived. We've processed beef for jerkey, and different fruits. My favorite fruit is strawberries. Fantastic machine. Highly recommended it.
Wayne Melvin : Great machine
Item fits description perfectly. Wonderful product to use around the house. Temp settings are perfect for many fruits and meats. Extremely easy to clean.
Sydney : Great product at great price
I got this to use for my cookies! It speeds up the drying time, so I can do details quickly. I am extremely happy with this machine. I’ve used it everyday for the last 6 months and never had a single problem!
