Q:
Has anyone used this to bake audio tapes that suffer from sticky shed syndrome?
Q:

Answer: In my opinion it is hardly noticeable. About like a nice oscillating fan at the most. I tried a couple of others (round with fans in the bottom) and the noise was horrible. The unit works well and it is very quiet.

Answer: No it doesn't.
Answer: No not that I know of.

Answer: It only goes up to just under 160 degrees. I don't know how hot you would need it to make black garlic but even if it does, it would take WEEKS for it to become black garlic.

Answer: If you don't want any heat, why don't you just hang your items out on the backyard clothes line and save the electricity?
Q:
What is the lowest temprature it holds? Wanting to use to make yogurt as well
Answer: The lowest was 140. I know, because I wanted to use 135 to dehydrate some fruit and it wouldn't go that low.

Q:
Can you recommend a stepup transformer for this product - need to use it with a 220-240V powerpoint?

Answer: Freeze drying (lyophilization) involves first freezing the fruits to -50°C (−58 °F) and −80 °C (−112 °F) and then creating a vacuum to enable the sublimation of water - it goes from solid (ice) directly to gas (steam), skipping the liquid (water) phase. It requires rather heavy (and expensive!) machinery. Search Wikipedia for "lyophilization" for more info.

Q:
Where can I buy more of the protective food (mesh) sheets that came with this one? There is only one.
Answer: You can buy them here on Amazon but honestly, depending what you are using them for, you can just use parchment paper. I think they would just be under a generic brand on here but just make sure it's the right size
Q:
Our unit is very loud. Any suggestions?
Answer: I put mine in an area of my garage
Q:
Where can I buy screens?
Q:
Does this product dehydrate nuts and seeds? I looked through all the answered questions and most of the comments and didn't see any ans to that.
Answer: I suggest that you put the nuts in the oven Or a cast iron skillet. Nuts are usually be toasted/ roasted and it would require some trial and error to determine how long to leave them in a dehydrator and at what temperature. Nuts don’t need to be dehydrated but if you want that roast honey flavor... a skillet is the best option otherwise use an oven you don’t need a dehydrator for nuts they don’t have much moisture.
Q:
I've read that meat should be dehydrated at 165 degrees, but this only goes up to 158 degrees. Can I dehydrate meat in this?
Answer: Yes, I dehydrate beef regularly and have never had a problem.
Answer: yes. We do BJ all the time
Q:
What is the high & low temp range of this dehydrater?
Answer: 104 - 158 degrees
Q:
Can i cook a Whole chicken in there?
Answer: This is a dehydrator.....not an oven/fryer????
Answer: No temperature will not go high enough.
Answer: No
Q:
How noisy is this machine?
Answer: Not loud at all. It has a soft fan sound. Very quiet.
Q:
i have some recipes that call for a 20 hour drying time, at 114 degrees, can this machine do this?
Answer: I don't have the machine like the one pictured but the same brand. The timer won't go to 20 hrs but you can go to 10 hrs twice.
Answer: I gave this as a gift to my son, for his jerky making. If anything it would cut drying time in half ????
Answer: Sorry, can't help. Have never had any luck producing an edible product with this machine.
Q:
GOOD EVENING. I WOULD LIKE TO USE MINE TO HAVE A RAW PLANT BASE DIET. IS THERE EVENYONE USE THIS MACHINE FOR THE SAME?
Answer: I have not but it should work fine.
Q:
Are the racks stainless?
Answer: No, BPA free plastic
Q:
Does this have ptfe, pfoa or Teflon coating?
Answer: Its a Dehydrator, its made of BPA free plastic.
Q:
can you freeze dry candy like jolly ranchers and bit o honey in this machine?
Answer: This a dehydrator, not for freeze drying.
Answer: no you can't.
Q:
Has anyone ever had an E1 in the digital reading? Mine does and it won’t do anything! I just got it today and am so bummed about it!!!
Answer: This won't help, but ours didn't work right out of the box. I read the reviews and saw lots of people had problems. I would send it back.
Q:
How long do you dry blue berries and what temperature? Instruction said 36 hours!
Answer: I’d suggest letting them a bit dehydrate naturally before putting them in the machine. Blueberries tend to shrink and lose most of its juices when left in the fridge or on the countertop in a shallow container. This should help reduce the dehydration time suggested.
Q:
Are we able to use parchment paper on the shelves?
Answer: yes
Q:
Can you make venison jerky in this using venison burger?
Answer: Probably
Q:
If this dehydrator loses power will it start back up when the power is back?
Answer: It will not the timer will need to be pressed again
Q:
Being it's horizontal, can you cover trays with aluminum foil while dehydrating without disturbing the dehydration too much?
Answer: You can but it would diminish the purpose of the trays being slotted so that the air can flow around the food
Answer: I would not use aluminum foil, since the idea is that it is dehydrating the air and in turn the fruit/food, and you want air circulation, and foil would inhibit that. The air should also touch the bottom of the fruit/food, and that is why there are apertures in the trays.
Answer: I haven’t tried it but covering the trays might reduce the airflow.
Answer: I would use parchment paper or one of the silicone liners before using foil simply for noise reasons, but yes, you can line the trays without disturbing the process too much.
Q:
Do you need to use food dehydrator sheets with this?
Answer: It depends on what your putting on the trays. My wife puts sugar cookies in ours. We just ordered the amazon silicone baking mats and cut them to fit the trays (cheaper solution)
Answer: No.
Q:
How long does it take or banana chips to get crispy?
Answer: 8 to 10 hours depending on thickness
Answer: Depends on how thick your slices are
Q:
How tall is it?
Answer: It is about 12 inchs tall...
Answer: Never got to use it. One was broken when I got it, reordered and got a defective one. Didn’t want to take a chance on a 3rd one.
Q:
Can you dry flowers with this?
Answer: Never tried, but I would assume that you could.
Q:
Can ir be used to dry fondant?
Answer: I wish I could specifically help you, but I ordered this for a Christmas present for someone else.
Answer: No, don't think so.
Product reviews of Gourmia GFD1680 Countertop Electric Food Dehydrator - 6 Drying Trays - Digital Countdown Timer - Preset Temperature Settings - Recipe Book Included
minionflo : Love love love!
I bought this to make beef jerky but it so easy to use and clean I have been trying all kinds of things I otherwise would not have. It's making our journey to healthier eating habits much easier and more fun!
James : Not what was advertised
I was very excited about this purchase. Upon receiving the item, I opened the box to find no sort of directions, instructions, manual, or even the advertised recipe book. There is no paperwork AT ALL. Just a box with a dehydrator..thats all.
Sending this back.
Jlc209 : Cancer and reproductive harm?
Was excited to use this but when I turned the box over it said this product may cause cancer or reproductive harm. I wish this was stated somewhere before buying it or I wouldn’t of. I also would like information on where that chemical is located because the trays are plastic. So every time I use this will the chemicals be leaching into my food? Thinking about returning this product for a different one.
Hunter : Great dehydrator
The dehydrator came with instructions and a recipe booklet. It was fairly easy to set up for the first time use, I was able to make beef jerky using the highest temperature setting and it came out great. It has more than enough racks to make a large amount of food for preserving in cans. Be sure to keep it a few inches away from the walls to ensure it gets enough airflow in the back and out the top. It is very easy to clean up the inside with a wet cloth just be sure to dry it before using.
Skip Oskey : Don’t like this product
This dehydrator is not what I expected I tried to dry a batch of teriyaki didn’t do it as long as it asked for dried the turkey jerky out to where you could need it I tried to dehydrate some fruit had to do it for about triple the time it was requested my bananas are still mushy rubbery don’t like the product at all I would like to return it I need a return label I don’t like the return code because my UPS person that picks it up does not have capability of scanning I need a return label please
Amanda K : Front scratched when received
A little bummed that the front screen is all scratched up straight out of the box. Good size! Excited to try it out
Troy : Wife love it
First thing we did was jerky. At 158° took only a few hours. Works so much better than our old dehydrator. The fan pulling all the moisture out is a big help. We tried to make beet and carrot chips and they did not turn out. My wife is doing some pine-apple right now.
Patty Marriott : Disappointed Grandson
Purchased as a gift and they let me know it wouldn't heat up as needed . Had a very disappointed grandson wanting to fix his own beef jerky.

HBecker : Easy-to-Use Food Dehydrator
The Gourmia food dehydrator was the first dehydrator that I have used and it really made it simple! The product came with a manual giving instructions on how to dry a large variety of foods. I have used it to make dried apples and bananas with great results. Once you prepare the food on the tray, all you have to do is turn it on and adjust the time/temperature and the rest is hands-off. This product makes it easy to make a tasty and healthy snack, I would definitely recommend it!
SeattleAnné : California health warning gave me pause.
Plastic trays are easily breakable and too fine to clean.
Health warning on box and machine gave cancer health warning. I will never, ever, ever use this.
I received it as a gift just opened it, unreturnable.
Mike J. : Makes Awesome Jerky!
In my experience, it heats up to where it is supposed to be within a reasonable amount of time. I have used it to make fantastic jerky with venison meat. Apples and bananas are still chewy and have a great natural flavor without adding anything besides lemon juice to prevent browning.
I don't understand the bad reviews. It beeps when you plug it in, then you have to hit Start and adjust the time/temperature. Also don't expect "banana candy" by dehydrating bananas. Your dried banana isn't going to be like the banana chips from the store that are fried in oil and usually have added sugar.
It does what it is supposed to, comes with a decent little recipe book, and seems to be very durable thus far. It's not as loud as I expected and I trust its capabilities a lot more than the vertical heating/stacking dehydrators.
I wish it came with more accessories for doing fruit leathers. I'll probably order some teflon sheets before trying that. It does take up a fair bit of counter space, but holds a good amount on the 6 racks.
bgd6 : Healthy treats made in confort of your own home
what a great way to create healthy snacks.

Mara : Can't fully adjust temperature
Still on the fence about this item. I want to set the temp at 118 degrees all I can do is 113 or 121.
Karen Howell : Instructions NOT Included
The box says a recipe book is included. Nope! There are no instructions either! No clue how to use it. I guess I’ll be doing a lot of googling.
Brittnie17 : Doesn't get hot enough esp for fruit.
Im disappointed in this dehydrator. I tried dehydrating some fruit that took 3 days and it was still sticky and ended up molding. It doesn't get hot enough and the Jerky comes out chewy. I finally bought a cosori and it is night and day. It does what its supposed to do.
Melissa Brown : Dehydrating
This dehydrator has been awesome!!! Very pleased with it. I have been using it a lot lately and it has had no issues. Love that it beeps when done. Can change temps and time very easily. Don't have to rotate the trays. Very easy to clean. I am very happy with this. The only issue is that it is big but there is nothing that can be done about that. If you are looking for a reasonable and quality product this is it. I would definitely buy this item again. Well worth the price!!!!
Frank : Good product but..
Dehydrating with this machine is a two step process requiring you to place your dehydrated foods in the a standard over for a little while.
Vicki Sandridge : Disappointing
We had this dehydrator for less than a year. We used it about 6 times making beef jerky. It now will not work. We have an error code when we start it and cannot clear the code. It no longer works. It did work great while it operated, but so not worth the price paid for a half dozen batches of jerky.
Mara : Can't fully adjust temperature
Still on the fence about this item. I want to set the temp at 118 degrees all I can do is 113 or 121.
N.Onymous : Worked Perfectly.
I made beef jerky over the weekend. It took about 6 hrs. as described. The jerky was perfect. Looking forward to dehydrating pineapple as well. Machine is very quiet and the trays clean up easily after a little soaking in hot soapy water.

christopher w henry : Works Great
I’ve had this dehydrator for a while now, and it works great! I much prefer this style of dehydrator over the stackable ones, the airflow seems much more even. Easy to clean, good price, and I’ve been using it almost daily over the last couple months and it’s still humming along nicely! Looking forward to using it for a long time to come!
Mara : Can't fully adjust temperature
Still on the fence about this item. I want to set the temp at 118 degrees all I can do is 113 or 121.
Hickoryknot : I like it
First use yesterday to do 4.5 lbs of deer jerky. It worked extremely well. It enabled me to do the process under my carport which kept the smell out of the house and out of the way. I processed it for 6.5 hours which may have been a little to long. The fan is really quite.

Owli Falls : Perfect
So easy to use, very quiet, easy to clean. Literally set it and forget it! It won’t make huge quantities, but it fits a fair bit. Perfect for what I use it for.
Amazon Customer : easy to cleane
I've made cookies & several kinds of Jerky with this. Works very well & is very easy to clean. It's a little larger than I expected & finding a place to store was a problem
K : Great buy
The trays pull out which make it easy to clean, it’s good for drying fruit and meat. The meat needs to be sliced thin for it to work well.
Mitch S. : Pretty good but expensive for the quality.
Quality not as good as I expected but works fine. It seems very flimsy with the door open. I've dried 3 batches so far. We'll see how batch 20 comes out
Brittnie17 : Doesn't get hot enough esp for fruit.

A Smith : Excellent buy!
I made beef jerky for the first time using this.
It was amazing! I love that it has so much capacity, and it's very easy to clean. At first I was disappointed in the plastic trays, but now I don't care, they'll never rust!
SM : Broken after 3 uses
This dehydrator worked great the 1st 3 times used. Now the fan isn't working. If you want something that is going to last don't buy this.
Patty Marriott : Disappointed Grandson
Purchased as a gift and they let me know it wouldn't heat up as needed . Had a very disappointed grandson wanting to fix his own beef jerky.
Paul : Great dehydrator
Have made several batches of beef jerky and love the ease of use and the racks can be cleaned without a lotta effort. Price is very reasonable would reccomend for the avg person doin some drying ...
Connie J. Grubaugh : Great dehydrater
Really like this dehydrater it works well and very quiet
Brittnie17 : Doesn't get hot enough esp for fruit.

Nick : Nope
Worked great for 6 months then stopped turning on.
DMP & CLA : Love It!
I purchased one for me and then later one for my daughter. We both love the ease in using this for fruit, peppers and tomatoes. Yum! We will try meats later.
EmmettP : It works well
Not very noisy. produces evenly dried fruits. Have not used it for anything else
ZanyMomofFour : Easy to use dehydrator, quiet and effective
I got this for myself for my birthday. It is so easy to use, just thinly cut up whatever you want to dehydrate and put on the trays. I am now able to "save" fruits and veggies that I was tossing before because they were going too ripe.
I put the dehydrated foods in mason jars and pop them in the pantry. Fruits are especially good in cereal and oatmeal. I'm excited to try more things.
The machine itself is quiet and needs about 8-10 hours to do its magic. It sits nicely on a counter or the floor. Its noise to work is like a very quiet fan, and you can use it with other normal household things going on. We watched a movie (open floorplan house) while it sat on the counter and we didn't even notice it. The only thing that I wish that it did was turn itself off when it is complete, but it beeps loudly (shrilly) and keeps doing that until you come turn it off. Great machine that will over time save us food and money!

clarence : Recommend it great product
I love how easy this is to use and clean and the made so many dried mushrooms and fruits with it! The size itself is actually perfect for my apartment counter space

Crissy79 : Broke so fast!
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband, he used it one to make beef jerky when he went to use it a second time it didn’t turn on. It worked great the first time so sad it broke so fast.
Robert : Good buy.
Simple to use and clean. Makes great beef jerky in 4-5 hours (1/4" thick) and we love it. This smaller unit seems to dry the food out pretty evenly without swapping trays around.
Derick : Buy it
Works just like it should. This is a must have item for the dehydration of fruit and meat. It is quiet and works as advertised
Patrick A. Donley : Blah.
Nothing special. You dont get to choose your own temp. There is only 3-4 preset temps . Not what I wanted.
