Q:
Has anyone used this to bake audio tapes that suffer from sticky shed syndrome?
Q:
Does this make a lot of noise?
Answer: In my opinion it is hardly noticeable. About like a nice oscillating fan at the most. I tried a couple of others (round with fans in the bottom) and the noise was horrible. The unit works well and it is very quiet.
Answer: I found this dehydrated to be a lot quieter than my old one it is a great deal faster also

Q:
Does it have a hanging rack?

Answer: No it doesn't.
Answer: No not that I know of.
Q:
Can I make black garlic in this?
Answer: It only goes up to just under 160 degrees. I don't know how hot you would need it to make black garlic but even if it does, it would take WEEKS for it to become black garlic.

Answer: If you don't want any heat, why don't you just hang your items out on the backyard clothes line and save the electricity?
Q:
What is the lowest temprature it holds? Wanting to use to make yogurt as well
Answer: The lowest was 140. I know, because I wanted to use 135 to dehydrate some fruit and it wouldn't go that low.
Answer: Goes down to 94. I make jerky thin, drys for 15 hours
Q:
Can you recommend a stepup transformer for this product - need to use it with a 220-240V powerpoint?

Answer: Freeze drying (lyophilization) involves first freezing the fruits to -50°C (−58 °F) and −80 °C (−112 °F) and then creating a vacuum to enable the sublimation of water - it goes from solid (ice) directly to gas (steam), skipping the liquid (water) phase. It requires rather heavy (and expensive!) machinery. Search Wikipedia for "lyophilization" for more info.

Answer: Very little space. Maybe 1/4", but trays can be left out to create more room for thick items

Q:
Where can I buy more of the protective food (mesh) sheets that came with this one? There is only one.
Answer: You can buy them here on Amazon but honestly, depending what you are using them for, you can just use parchment paper. I think they would just be under a generic brand on here but just make sure it's the right size
Q:
Our unit is very loud. Any suggestions?
Answer: I put mine in an area of my garage
Q:
Where can I buy screens?
Q:
Does this product dehydrate nuts and seeds? I looked through all the answered questions and most of the comments and didn't see any ans to that.
Answer: I suggest that you put the nuts in the oven Or a cast iron skillet. Nuts are usually be toasted/ roasted and it would require some trial and error to determine how long to leave them in a dehydrator and at what temperature. Nuts don’t need to be dehydrated but if you want that roast honey flavor... a skillet is the best option otherwise use an oven you don’t need a dehydrator for nuts they don’t have much moisture.
Q:
I've read that meat should be dehydrated at 165 degrees, but this only goes up to 158 degrees. Can I dehydrate meat in this?
Answer: Yes, I dehydrate beef regularly and have never had a problem.
Answer: yes. We do BJ all the time
Q:
What is the high & low temp range of this dehydrater?
Answer: 104 - 158 degrees
Q:
Can i cook a Whole chicken in there?
Answer: This is a dehydrator.....not an oven/fryer????
Answer: No temperature will not go high enough.
Answer: No
Q:
How noisy is this machine?
Answer: Not loud at all. It has a soft fan sound. Very quiet.
Q:
i have some recipes that call for a 20 hour drying time, at 114 degrees, can this machine do this?
Answer: I don't have the machine like the one pictured but the same brand. The timer won't go to 20 hrs but you can go to 10 hrs twice.
Answer: I gave this as a gift to my son, for his jerky making. If anything it would cut drying time in half ????
Answer: Sorry, can't help. Have never had any luck producing an edible product with this machine.
Q:
GOOD EVENING. I WOULD LIKE TO USE MINE TO HAVE A RAW PLANT BASE DIET. IS THERE EVENYONE USE THIS MACHINE FOR THE SAME?
Answer: I have not but it should work fine.
Q:
Are the racks stainless?
Answer: No, BPA free plastic
Q:
Does this have ptfe, pfoa or Teflon coating?
Answer: Its a Dehydrator, its made of BPA free plastic.
Q:
can you freeze dry candy like jolly ranchers and bit o honey in this machine?
Answer: This a dehydrator, not for freeze drying.
Answer: no you can't.
Q:
Has anyone ever had an E1 in the digital reading? Mine does and it won’t do anything! I just got it today and am so bummed about it!!!
Answer: This won't help, but ours didn't work right out of the box. I read the reviews and saw lots of people had problems. I would send it back.
Q:
How long do you dry blue berries and what temperature? Instruction said 36 hours!
Answer: I’d suggest letting them a bit dehydrate naturally before putting them in the machine. Blueberries tend to shrink and lose most of its juices when left in the fridge or on the countertop in a shallow container. This should help reduce the dehydration time suggested.
Q:
Are we able to use parchment paper on the shelves?
Answer: yes
Q:
Can you make venison jerky in this using venison burger?
Answer: Probably
Q:
If this dehydrator loses power will it start back up when the power is back?
Answer: It will not the timer will need to be pressed again
Q:
Being it's horizontal, can you cover trays with aluminum foil while dehydrating without disturbing the dehydration too much?
Answer: You can but it would diminish the purpose of the trays being slotted so that the air can flow around the food
Answer: I would not use aluminum foil, since the idea is that it is dehydrating the air and in turn the fruit/food, and you want air circulation, and foil would inhibit that. The air should also touch the bottom of the fruit/food, and that is why there are apertures in the trays.
Answer: I haven’t tried it but covering the trays might reduce the airflow.
Answer: I would use parchment paper or one of the silicone liners before using foil simply for noise reasons, but yes, you can line the trays without disturbing the process too much.
Q:
Do you need to use food dehydrator sheets with this?
Answer: It depends on what your putting on the trays. My wife puts sugar cookies in ours. We just ordered the amazon silicone baking mats and cut them to fit the trays (cheaper solution)
Answer: No.
Q:
How long does it take or banana chips to get crispy?
Answer: 8 to 10 hours depending on thickness
Answer: Depends on how thick your slices are
Q:
How tall is it?
Answer: It is about 12 inchs tall...
Answer: Never got to use it. One was broken when I got it, reordered and got a defective one. Didn’t want to take a chance on a 3rd one.
Q:
Can you dry flowers with this?
Answer: Never tried, but I would assume that you could.
Q:
Can ir be used to dry fondant?
Answer: I wish I could specifically help you, but I ordered this for a Christmas present for someone else.
Answer: No, don't think so.
Product reviews of Gourmia GFD1680 Countertop Electric Food Dehydrator - 6 Drying Trays - Digital Countdown Timer - Preset Temperature Settings - Recipe Book Included
Rusty Shackleford : Quiet
Nice little unit. It’s very nicely built, and in my opinion quite attractive. It’s very easy to use and clean. We’ve had a week now, and we’ve pretty well run it nonstop. I’ve dehydrated: apples, bananas, strawberries, and pineapples. But, for me the most impressive thing is how nice and quiet it is. Some units are very loud, but this little gem is only about as loud as a refrigerator.
rayfirstlight : Ease of operation
Just got it but have already made 2 beef jerky 1 chicken jerk and banana chips. Next is apple and strawberry for homemade trail mix. The jerky is awesome - you can develop your own recipe - mine was liquid smoke and Worcester for one batch and general tsao sauce for other and chicken was herb and garlic . Can’t quit eating it! Gonna need more soon! Quick prep time and EZ clean... what more do you need? This is going to be a great Christmas gift for anyone who wants healthy snacks and cheap snacks. You don’t want to put filet mignon in there! Recommend-a-Mundo!
Frank : 1 year and it is still going strong
I like this because it is a very high capacity and you dont have to rotate the stack. There is a fan that circulates the air so everything dries at the same rate. I bought some liners to put over the shelves because the openings are too big with bananas and berries and they fall thru.
Aron lefkowitz : Very useful
Bought it for my wife as a gift and she loves it. She basically uses it for fruits, but can turn anything into a healthy snack????. Worth every penny.
Amazon Customer : Bomb!
Love this thing. Made a couple of batches of beef jerky and they were amazing. Did dried cherry tomatoes and they were like eating candy. Very easy to use and clean. Def recommend.
Mike J. : Makes Awesome Jerky!
In my experience, it heats up to where it is supposed to be within a reasonable amount of time. I have used it to make fantastic jerky with venison meat. Apples and bananas are still chewy and have a great natural flavor without adding anything besides lemon juice to prevent browning.
I don't understand the bad reviews. It beeps when you plug it in, then you have to hit Start and adjust the time/temperature. Also don't expect "banana candy" by dehydrating bananas. Your dried banana isn't going to be like the banana chips from the store that are fried in oil and usually have added sugar.
It does what it is supposed to, comes with a decent little recipe book, and seems to be very durable thus far. It's not as loud as I expected and I trust its capabilities a lot more than the vertical heating/stacking dehydrators.
I wish it came with more accessories for doing fruit leathers. I'll probably order some teflon sheets before trying that. It does take up a fair bit of counter space, but holds a good amount on the 6 racks.
Amazon Customer : Works great
Upgraded to this from a cheap one that didn’t work. This one is fantastic and works wonderfully. Easy to use, set temp and time, comes with a book that tell you temp and time for each food
mufffin : Just great
Nice size, easy to work with. Just what I wanted.
Chris B : Item performs as advertised
Item performs as advertised. Worked as expected and I hope the plastic trays hold up over time. As long as any meat dehydrated is low fat it should be easy to clean. It has a tray in the bottom to catch any drippings. I currently have no complaints.
SM : Broken after 3 uses
This dehydrator worked great the 1st 3 times used. Now the fan isn't working. If you want something that is going to last don't buy this.
K : Great buy
The trays pull out which make it easy to clean, it’s good for drying fruit and meat. The meat needs to be sliced thin for it to work well.
Skip Oskey : Don’t like this product
This dehydrator is not what I expected I tried to dry a batch of teriyaki didn’t do it as long as it asked for dried the turkey jerky out to where you could need it I tried to dehydrate some fruit had to do it for about triple the time it was requested my bananas are still mushy rubbery don’t like the product at all I would like to return it I need a return label I don’t like the return code because my UPS person that picks it up does not have capability of scanning I need a return label please
minionflo : Love love love!
I bought this to make beef jerky but it so easy to use and clean I have been trying all kinds of things I otherwise would not have. It's making our journey to healthier eating habits much easier and more fun!
jlp : Exactly what we asked for
We are so pleased with the dehydrator. We did beef and turkey. Followed the directions and it was done in 6 hours. Love the window to see in.
Amazon Customer : Works great
Upgraded to this from a cheap one that didn’t work. This one is fantastic and works wonderfully. Easy to use, set temp and time, comes with a book that tell you temp and time for each food
Roland J. Plasser : Wife loves it.
Not the fastest dehydrator in the world, but it's whisper quiet, large capacity, very little smell, even from raw meat. It's a winner.
Jeff P : Love it!
Not sure why ppl are complaining about hard to clean trays. I dehydrate muscle meat and ground meats. I always take oil and lightly coat the plastic tray surface before adding meat. Nothing ever sticks. When done, I soak in hot soapy water for 30 minutes before wiping clean. Machine is a Beast! Quiet! and amazing to use. I'm still learning how long to dehydrate items. Apples, strawberries - AMAZING too. Best purchase and the price made me nervous, but definitely glad I did. Worth every penny. I've already saved the price 3x over by making my own jerky!
Crissy79 : Broke so fast!
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband, he used it one to make beef jerky when he went to use it a second time it didn’t turn on. It worked great the first time so sad it broke so fast.
Frank : 1 year and it is still going strong
I like this because it is a very high capacity and you dont have to rotate the stack. There is a fan that circulates the air so everything dries at the same rate. I bought some liners to put over the shelves because the openings are too big with bananas and berries and they fall thru.
Troy : Wife love it
First thing we did was jerky. At 158° took only a few hours. Works so much better than our old dehydrator. The fan pulling all the moisture out is a big help. We tried to make beet and carrot chips and they did not turn out. My wife is doing some pine-apple right now.
Shaun Johnson : Great value and product
Works perfectly. Great product and value. Will buy Gourmia stuff again.
Mrs. JP : Really like it
Our first dehydrator and we really like it. The trays are easy to clean.
Kitty K : Reliable product
It works as expected. Good size and easy to operate.
Frank : Good product but..
Dehydrating with this machine is a two step process requiring you to place your dehydrated foods in the a standard over for a little while.
Amanda K : Front scratched when received
A little bummed that the front screen is all scratched up straight out of the box. Good size! Excited to try it out
Amanda K : Front scratched when received
A little bummed that the front screen is all scratched up straight out of the box. Good size! Excited to try it out
Paul : Great dehydrator
Have made several batches of beef jerky and love the ease of use and the racks can be cleaned without a lotta effort. Price is very reasonable would reccomend for the avg person doin some drying ...
Amazon Customer : Big Disappointment
I have tried over and over to make this work. The fruit comes out like gummy fruit. I am vegan and was looking forward to using this for fruits and vegetables. It is useless.
Amazon Customer : I love it!!
I love this dehydrator I dehydrate all kinds of vegtables, fruit, fruit rollups. Easy to use, very quiet!
Matthew K. : Your dog will love you for it.
Love using this to make dehydrated sweet potato chips for my dogs instead of giving them store bought crap. My dogs love them.
lisa : Good, but not good
This, design wise is awesome and has almost everything I'm looking for.
The temperature is why I gave only 3 stars instead of 5.
The temp moves in weird increments, and doesnt let me dehydrate above 150...or at 115 degrees (which is ideal) Doesnt seem to heat properly either. My 8 hour raw sandwich bread recipe took 3 days.
I love the design, but the temperature is an issue for me.
Mirel : Love it!
So happy I got this! it is very easy to use, the shelving are a perfect size and you can put quite a bit on them, Easy to clean and looks good too. Whatever I put in there came out great and everyone loved it.
Michael Mahony : Great. A bit warm, but great.
Daily production for an at home business. It is great. I understand its a dehydrator but it lets off more heat than i expected. Nothing too crazy but living in a warm climate, its just warmer than i expected. But it works amazingly well! Highly recomend this dehydrator.
jlp : Exactly what we asked for
We are so pleased with the dehydrator. We did beef and turkey. Followed the directions and it was done in 6 hours. Love the window to see in.
Sydney : Great product at great price
I got this to use for my cookies! It speeds up the drying time, so I can do details quickly. I am extremely happy with this machine. I’ve used it everyday for the last 6 months and never had a single problem!
Pearson Justis : Faulty Manufacturing
Bought the product and used it for maybe 4-5 months and it broke. Messages them and got a free replacement, and in even less time it also broke. Broke as in just completely glitches out and will not run. Would highly recommend you look elsewhere.
rayfirstlight : Ease of operation

Hickoryknot : I like it
First use yesterday to do 4.5 lbs of deer jerky. It worked extremely well. It enabled me to do the process under my carport which kept the smell out of the house and out of the way. I processed it for 6.5 hours which may have been a little to long. The fan is really quite.
Mara : Can't fully adjust temperature
Still on the fence about this item. I want to set the temp at 118 degrees all I can do is 113 or 121.
Picabo : Great product for the price!
Made venison jerky with this and it came out great. It is very quiet. The only problem is the timing changes in 30 minute increments and the temperature in 9 degree increments so you may have to adjust your recipe a bit. This is not a big deal though.
bgd6 : Healthy treats made in confort of your own home
what a great way to create healthy snacks.
Karen Howell : Instructions NOT Included
The box says a recipe book is included. Nope! There are no instructions either! No clue how to use it. I guess I’ll be doing a lot of googling.
Connor McKenzy Hall : Love it
Easy to use, comes with timing guide to assist with new users. Love this machine!!!
Cara : Wow! Love this machine
I never knew how cool dehydrators are. We love this one. Our deer jerky, veggies and fruit have been amazing
Shaun Johnson : Great value and product
Works perfectly. Great product and value. Will buy Gourmia stuff again.
Patrick A. Donley : Blah.
Nothing special. You dont get to choose your own temp. There is only 3-4 preset temps . Not what I wanted.
Patty Marriott : Disappointed Grandson
Purchased as a gift and they let me know it wouldn't heat up as needed . Had a very disappointed grandson wanting to fix his own beef jerky.
Patty : Great dehydrator for the price
I've been dehydrating fruit leathers and vegetables. It's been great & easy to use. It's not very loud which is great. Others I've used were so noisy, but this one is pretty quite! I like the auto timer so I can dehydrate overnight
Picabo : Great product for the price!
