Answer: No not that I know of.

Answer: Freeze drying (lyophilization) involves first freezing the fruits to -50°C (−58 °F) and −80 °C (−112 °F) and then creating a vacuum to enable the sublimation of water - it goes from solid (ice) directly to gas (steam), skipping the liquid (water) phase. It requires rather heavy (and expensive!) machinery. Search Wikipedia for "lyophilization" for more info.

Q:
Our unit is very loud. Any suggestions?
Answer: I put mine in an area of my garage
Q:
Where can I buy screens?
Q:
Does this product dehydrate nuts and seeds? I looked through all the answered questions and most of the comments and didn't see any ans to that.
Answer: I suggest that you put the nuts in the oven Or a cast iron skillet. Nuts are usually be toasted/ roasted and it would require some trial and error to determine how long to leave them in a dehydrator and at what temperature. Nuts don’t need to be dehydrated but if you want that roast honey flavor... a skillet is the best option otherwise use an oven you don’t need a dehydrator for nuts they don’t have much moisture.
Q:
I've read that meat should be dehydrated at 165 degrees, but this only goes up to 158 degrees. Can I dehydrate meat in this?
Answer: Yes, I dehydrate beef regularly and have never had a problem.
Answer: yes. We do BJ all the time

How noisy is this machine?
Answer: Not loud at all. It has a soft fan sound. Very quiet.
Q:
i have some recipes that call for a 20 hour drying time, at 114 degrees, can this machine do this?
Answer: I don't have the machine like the one pictured but the same brand. The timer won't go to 20 hrs but you can go to 10 hrs twice.
Answer: I gave this as a gift to my son, for his jerky making. If anything it would cut drying time in half ????
Answer: Sorry, can't help. Have never had any luck producing an edible product with this machine.
Q:
GOOD EVENING. I WOULD LIKE TO USE MINE TO HAVE A RAW PLANT BASE DIET. IS THERE EVENYONE USE THIS MACHINE FOR THE SAME?
Answer: I have not but it should work fine.
Q:

Has anyone ever had an E1 in the digital reading? Mine does and it won’t do anything! I just got it today and am so bummed about it!!!
Answer: This won't help, but ours didn't work right out of the box. I read the reviews and saw lots of people had problems. I would send it back.
Q:
How long do you dry blue berries and what temperature? Instruction said 36 hours!
Answer: I’d suggest letting them a bit dehydrate naturally before putting them in the machine. Blueberries tend to shrink and lose most of its juices when left in the fridge or on the countertop in a shallow container. This should help reduce the dehydration time suggested.
Q:
Are we able to use parchment paper on the shelves?
Answer: yes
Q:
Can you make venison jerky in this using venison burger?
Answer: Probably
Q:
If this dehydrator loses power will it start back up when the power is back?
Answer: It will not the timer will need to be pressed again
Q:
Being it's horizontal, can you cover trays with aluminum foil while dehydrating without disturbing the dehydration too much?
Answer: You can but it would diminish the purpose of the trays being slotted so that the air can flow around the food
Answer: I would not use aluminum foil, since the idea is that it is dehydrating the air and in turn the fruit/food, and you want air circulation, and foil would inhibit that. The air should also touch the bottom of the fruit/food, and that is why there are apertures in the trays.
Answer: I haven’t tried it but covering the trays might reduce the airflow.
Answer: I would use parchment paper or one of the silicone liners before using foil simply for noise reasons, but yes, you can line the trays without disturbing the process too much.
Q:
Do you need to use food dehydrator sheets with this?
Answer: It depends on what your putting on the trays. My wife puts sugar cookies in ours. We just ordered the amazon silicone baking mats and cut them to fit the trays (cheaper solution)
Answer: No.
Q:
How long does it take or banana chips to get crispy?
Answer: 8 to 10 hours depending on thickness
Answer: Depends on how thick your slices are
Q:
How tall is it?
Answer: It is about 12 inchs tall...
Answer: Never got to use it. One was broken when I got it, reordered and got a defective one. Didn’t want to take a chance on a 3rd one.
Q:
Can you dry flowers with this?
Answer: Never tried, but I would assume that you could.
Q:
Can ir be used to dry fondant?
Answer: I wish I could specifically help you, but I ordered this for a Christmas present for someone else.
Answer: No, don't think so.
Product reviews of Gourmia GFD1680 Countertop Electric Food Dehydrator - 6 Drying Trays - Digital Countdown Timer - Preset Temperature Settings - Recipe Book Included
Colleen : Better then expected!!
This is my second time buying a dehydrator. The first one was a flop. It was plastic, noisy, and took a long time to dehydrate. So when ordering this my hopes weren't too high but I love this one. The size is not too big. It's about half the size of my microwave but it holds a ton of food. The 6 trays are super easy to clean. The fan being in the back is way better too because the food cooks more evenly. It's also very quiet. The controls are very sleek and easy to use. Just an all around great dehydrator!!
Skip Oskey : Don’t like this product
This dehydrator is not what I expected I tried to dry a batch of teriyaki didn’t do it as long as it asked for dried the turkey jerky out to where you could need it I tried to dehydrate some fruit had to do it for about triple the time it was requested my bananas are still mushy rubbery don’t like the product at all I would like to return it I need a return label I don’t like the return code because my UPS person that picks it up does not have capability of scanning I need a return label please
Rusty Shackleford : Quiet
Nice little unit. It’s very nicely built, and in my opinion quite attractive. It’s very easy to use and clean. We’ve had a week now, and we’ve pretty well run it nonstop. I’ve dehydrated: apples, bananas, strawberries, and pineapples. But, for me the most impressive thing is how nice and quiet it is. Some units are very loud, but this little gem is only about as loud as a refrigerator.
Amazon Customer : Good product
Works great made beef jerky and banana chips does a great job
bgd6 : Healthy treats made in confort of your own home
what a great way to create healthy snacks.
Kindle Customer : Directions are not accurate
This dehydrator takes a lot longer to dry food than the directions say. You have to put the temp much higher than shown.
Linda Carlson : THE BEST
we are total foodies here- this item totally surpasses all of our prior dehydrators...you need this item
Jeff P : Love it!
Not sure why ppl are complaining about hard to clean trays. I dehydrate muscle meat and ground meats. I always take oil and lightly coat the plastic tray surface before adding meat. Nothing ever sticks. When done, I soak in hot soapy water for 30 minutes before wiping clean. Machine is a Beast! Quiet! and amazing to use. I'm still learning how long to dehydrate items. Apples, strawberries - AMAZING too. Best purchase and the price made me nervous, but definitely glad I did. Worth every penny. I've already saved the price 3x over by making my own jerky!
Patrick A. Donley : Blah.
Nothing special. You dont get to choose your own temp. There is only 3-4 preset temps . Not what I wanted.
Crissy79 : Broke so fast!
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband, he used it one to make beef jerky when he went to use it a second time it didn’t turn on. It worked great the first time so sad it broke so fast.
Amazon Customer : My husband loves this!!!
He had other dehydrators long ago that would take many hours for the beef jerky to be ready, but this one is so easy to use and takes half the time. He looooves it!
Chris B : Item performs as advertised
Item performs as advertised. Worked as expected and I hope the plastic trays hold up over time. As long as any meat dehydrated is low fat it should be easy to clean. It has a tray in the bottom to catch any drippings. I currently have no complaints.
Sydney : Great product at great price
I got this to use for my cookies! It speeds up the drying time, so I can do details quickly. I am extremely happy with this machine. I’ve used it everyday for the last 6 months and never had a single problem!
M. Hope : Overall a good dehydrator, but the tray cracked easily
This was my first dehydrator which made me very nervous. However, with a little research, I find it extremely easy to use. The downsides, first the temperature gauge, you can not adjust the temperature as I imagined one degree at a time. It has several preset temperatures for you to choose from. It is a manageable issue, though. The second issue is the plastic trays. I'm not opposed to them as they are easy to use and clean, but one drop on the floor and the whole side of one of the trays shattered. So handling with delicate hands is a must.
Aliza : Beef jerky every day!!
We've only made (10 batches) beef jerky in the dehydrator, so far so good. The plastic racks are easy to clean, as is the interior of the machine. We are experimenting with different cuts, thickness, seasonings, etc., but no issues thus far.
Mara : Can't fully adjust temperature
Still on the fence about this item. I want to set the temp at 118 degrees all I can do is 113 or 121.
Michael Mahony : Great. A bit warm, but great.
Daily production for an at home business. It is great. I understand its a dehydrator but it lets off more heat than i expected. Nothing too crazy but living in a warm climate, its just warmer than i expected. But it works amazingly well! Highly recomend this dehydrator.
Connor McKenzy Hall : Love it
Easy to use, comes with timing guide to assist with new users. Love this machine!!!
Paul : Great dehydrator
Have made several batches of beef jerky and love the ease of use and the racks can be cleaned without a lotta effort. Price is very reasonable would reccomend for the avg person doin some drying ...
Troy : Wife love it
First thing we did was jerky. At 158° took only a few hours. Works so much better than our old dehydrator. The fan pulling all the moisture out is a big help. We tried to make beet and carrot chips and they did not turn out. My wife is doing some pine-apple right now.
Connor McKenzy Hall : Love it
Easy to use, comes with timing guide to assist with new users. Love this machine!!!
Brittnie17 : Doesn't get hot enough esp for fruit.
Im disappointed in this dehydrator. I tried dehydrating some fruit that took 3 days and it was still sticky and ended up molding. It doesn't get hot enough and the Jerky comes out chewy. I finally bought a cosori and it is night and day. It does what its supposed to do.
mufffin : Just great
Nice size, easy to work with. Just what I wanted.
Amanda K : Front scratched when received
A little bummed that the front screen is all scratched up straight out of the box. Good size! Excited to try it out
Patti McNary Murphy : Durable, easy to use and accurate distribution of the air
So over the top happy with this! Distribution of the air is perfect. The ease is perfect… Trays hurt easily accessible to check your items as they do you hydrate. I would say the directions are not ver so over-the-top happy with this! Distribution of the air is perfect. The ease is perfect… Trays are easily accessible to check your items as they dehydrate.
HW : Buyer beware! Glass front fell off!
The glass front randomly fell off of my dehydrator and shattered worthless after a dozen uses. Now the dehydrator is completely useless because there's no way to keep it sealed while it's running. The company refused to issue a refund or replacement and instead wanted me to buy a new door to keep using it, despite the shattered glass everywhere. I don't want glass shards in my food, so I said no. They then said I could send them the unit at my expense and they would look at it, but no indication that they would issue a refund after they "looked at it." This product and the company are worthless.
SRQ Shopaholic : Great machine!!!
Best dehydrated I've purchased so far. We started using this as soon as it arrived. We've processed beef for jerkey, and different fruits. My favorite fruit is strawberries. Fantastic machine. Highly recommended it.
Connie J. Grubaugh : Great dehydrater
Really like this dehydrater it works well and very quiet
Pearson Justis : Faulty Manufacturing
Bought the product and used it for maybe 4-5 months and it broke. Messages them and got a free replacement, and in even less time it also broke. Broke as in just completely glitches out and will not run. Would highly recommend you look elsewhere.
SM : Broken after 3 uses
This dehydrator worked great the 1st 3 times used. Now the fan isn't working. If you want something that is going to last don't buy this.
SRsage : I never knew I needed this in my life until I purchased one!!
My first use of the machine was Terriyaki Garlic Beef Jerky using carne asada. It came out better than anything I have ever purchased in a store. The Gourmia is quiet and it will beep a few times making you aware when your food is finished. The recipe guide it came with has a few good starters to try. Overall, we are now making our own snacks and saving a lot of money and cutting down on sugar and artificial food additives.
Melissa Brown : Dehydrating
This dehydrator has been awesome!!! Very pleased with it. I have been using it a lot lately and it has had no issues. Love that it beeps when done. Can change temps and time very easily. Don't have to rotate the trays. Very easy to clean. I am very happy with this. The only issue is that it is big but there is nothing that can be done about that. If you are looking for a reasonable and quality product this is it. I would definitely buy this item again. Well worth the price!!!!
Troy : Wife love it

Patty Marriott : Disappointed Grandson
Purchased as a gift and they let me know it wouldn't heat up as needed . Had a very disappointed grandson wanting to fix his own beef jerky.
Rebel : The best dehydrators I've ever used
It work amazingly it's about the size of a microwave but it works great you set the temperature and set the time and it counts down and turns off by itself I've made 3 things of deer jerky and it turned out awesome
Picabo : Great product for the price!
Made venison jerky with this and it came out great. It is very quiet. The only problem is the timing changes in 30 minute increments and the temperature in 9 degree increments so you may have to adjust your recipe a bit. This is not a big deal though.
Amazon Customer : Comes with Cookbook!
This product came right on time! It came with a cookbook which was a great surprise. Haven't used it yet, but all looks good and excited to get cooking!

Blake Watanabe : Works great!
Love it so far. I have done different fruits and over 20 lbs of meat so far and very impressed.
Brittnie17 : Doesn't get hot enough esp for fruit.

HBecker : Easy-to-Use Food Dehydrator
The Gourmia food dehydrator was the first dehydrator that I have used and it really made it simple! The product came with a manual giving instructions on how to dry a large variety of foods. I have used it to make dried apples and bananas with great results. Once you prepare the food on the tray, all you have to do is turn it on and adjust the time/temperature and the rest is hands-off. This product makes it easy to make a tasty and healthy snack, I would definitely recommend it!
Andres Ochoa : Broken at a moment's notice
It stopped working.
HW : Buyer beware! Glass front fell off!

So happy I got this! it is very easy to use, the shelving are a perfect size and you can put quite a bit on them, Easy to clean and looks good too. Whatever I put in there came out great and everyone loved it.
albert lee cha : okay
we don't use as much than you think you will
SRQ Shopaholic : Great machine!!!
Best dehydrated I've purchased so far. We started using this as soon as it arrived. We've processed beef for jerkey, and different fruits. My favorite fruit is strawberries. Fantastic machine. Highly recommended it.
SeattleAnné : California health warning gave me pause.
Plastic trays are easily breakable and too fine to clean. Health warning on box and machine gave cancer health warning. I will never, ever, ever use this. I received it as a gift just opened it, unreturnable.
