Questions about Eagle Claw 10161-009 Two-Ring Crab
Q:
What is the netting made of. Will it rust if used in salt water
Answer: Steel mesh. If rinsed after use, rusting is minimal.
Answer: Looks like zinc-plated mild steel. In time, I expect it will rust away.
Answer: I assume it's aluminum of sorts but I hose them off after each use, I crab with them all they time, it's so much better than your traditional trap.
Q:
Will this work for pulling fish up from say off a bridge or pier
Answer: I would recommend getting a bigger size basket and yes you can pull up fish with these types of baskets maybe a 2 man operation, one to pull in the fish, and another to get the basket under the fish ,to gut um up on the peir ... Happy Fishing from New Jersey!!!!!
Answer: Well, if you attract the fish with a bait tied to the net, and you can quickly pull it up, you may be able catch it.
Answer: Pull up crabs and bait fish better, but with the proper bait I'm sure you can
Q:
do you need to buy a rope or anything else to use this?
Answer: Yes your best bet is cotton rope because the not stays tight, metal cages are the best because it's so much easier to shake a crab off the metal.
Q:
Would this work to store toilet paper in for a nautical theme bathroom ?
Answer: No - this only works for hanging fruit on a balcony.
Answer: Yes it will work it's a little bigger than a normal basket that you put by the kitchen sink to hang sponges something soon
Answer: No. No that’s absurd.
Q:
I'm looking for a small trap that a four year old could pull up by themselves. The ones we rent are too big. Would this work, what else should I get?
Answer: This is perfect and light weight, metal is better because you can shake the crabs right off, they hold on to the rope ones big time.
Q:
How big is the diameter for the ring on top and the bottom?
Answer: I returned it because it was too small for my application, but if I had to guess, its probably about 18 in on top and the bottom is roughly 12in.
Answer: 17-1/2" and 7-3/4" respectively
Q:
How many come in the package?
Answer: One per package.
Answer: One unit
Answer: 1
Answer: One
Answer: one
Q:
How to stabilize the baits?
Answer: I tie the bait securely to the bottom/center of the net. Otherwise, the crabs will quickly carry the bait away. A good trick is to put the bait into a ladies nylon stocking and then tie the stocking to the net. That will prevent the crabs from tearing up the bait so it will last longer. The crab legs tend to get stuck in the nylon mesh so they can't get away when you're pulling the net up.
Answer: I use zip ties through the bottom of the trap. Works on chicken legs, necks and fish heads (go through the mouth and out the gill).
Answer: Tie chicken necks to the inside bottom of the basket. Works every time!
Answer: I use string or plastic ties
Q:
Is the mesh wire small enough for carwfish?
Answer: Yes I believe so. The holes in the basket are as small ass a dime.
Answer: I believe it would work fine. But I have no experience with crawfish.
Answer: Yes definitely
Answer: I believe so.
Q:
Is this legal in southern california ..(san diego)?
Answer: Don't know. Check with the department of natural resources or environmental conservation!
Q:
what is the dimensions
Answer: Click on features and details, it tells you everything about it
Q:
Does it come with rope
Answer: It does not come with rope.
Answer: Yes comes with rope.
Answer: no
Q:
What is the diameter?
Q:
What is the diameter of the basket?
Q:
Hello, is the bottom of this weighted so it will sink flat? Thanks
Answer: It is not weighted. It will sink flat on its own. Casting it requires a little finess to make it land in the water and sink properly. Weighting will make it sink more quickly and cast farther.
Answer: It is not. I bought fishing weights and tied them to the basket.
Q:
What size is this? bottom ring size, top ring size, height of mesh. Dimensions are important due to state laws. Also what material is it made from
Q:
What's the sizes?
Q:
Does this come with the harness and strings to actually pull the trap up or is that separate? Does it have a hook at the bottom to attach the bait?
Q:
How big is the larger ring?
Answer: 17.625" by my tape measure.
Answer: 20 inches
Product reviews of Eagle Claw 10161-009 Two-Ring Crab
Shark Bait : My 8 year old was able to drop and pull it up by himself so great for kids
Arrive with few broken wires so I have to fixed it up with fishing line. You have to replace the tiny thin rope that came with it. One I received wasn't even tied up correctly. One pull it came loose so imagine with crab and weight of the water force when pulling it up I replaced with polypolythene rope. The main line I use nylon rope. So you will add close another $10 to be ready for actual use. Also make sure you rinse after each use in saltwater. That is downside of steel mesh compare to rope net. It will eventually rust even with rinse. My 8 year old was able to drop and pull it up by himself so great for kids. He had a blast. Every 10-15min he ask to pull it up.
Victor : Works as expected
As described
Dadof4gr8kids : Got what I expected
For the price of these I figured they were cheap Chinese crap and that's exactly what I received. I ordered 6 but I had to return two of them because they were broken upon receiving them. There is definitely no quality control when these are manufactured. I think functionally they will work fine but for how long is yet to be seen. I will update my review once I actually do use them but I will not be giving it more than 3 stars.
KIMBERLY BURRELL : Great product
I spent money on the big wire cages and they were horrible for Blue crabs. This was a great net which we were able to use all day and kept catching us some BLUE crabs.
Sandra darlene bowman : Great
Worked great for catching blue crab
N.W. Ohio : Worked well
We caught some blue crabs in the bay in New Jersey! We rinsed them afterwards as was recommended in other reviews and got no rust so far. We also added our own heavier cord as others recommended.

Got these for a great price. They are bigger than I thought they'd be. We caught lots of crabs. This big and light enough for 11-14 year olds to use.
Monkey Butt : Might deserve 5 stars
Nice baskets...I replaced the strings before I ever used it with paracord. Felt like maybe the string wouldn't hold up or would break so I never gave it a full chance.
CFred : Does it's job. I don't know what else to ...
Does it's job. I don't know what else to say considering this price. If you want to catch crabs, this works.

Kevin A. : ... is just 18 inches I thought it would be good. It comes with light weight kite string which ...
bought for the kids to use since it is just 18 inches I thought it would be good. It comes with light weight kite string which had to be replaced with parachute cord. It isnt deep so you must pull it up quickly so crabs dont jump out...which defeats the premise of buying it for kids.
Jonathan S. : This is an amazing crab ring
This is an amazing crab ring!
I recently traveled to southern Oregon to go camping and wanted to take my kids crabbing for the first time. After seeing some of the gear the other crabbers were using I questioned this rings ability. Other people were using some pretty commercial looking rings and traps and had 1-3 crabs in their buckets after crabbing for several hours... We ended up hauling in 13 dungeones crabs in a little over 3 hours.
I can't guarantee the same results, but I can guarantee that you have no need to worry this rings ability. We brought in 3 crabs measuring over 7 in at one time, using one chicken leg, zip tied it to the bottom ring.
I also purchased a promar ne-104 harness to ensure stability. I would recommend doing the same. The included harness is made of a non poly rope and has an "S" hook that most likely wouldn't work without some modification.
I couldn't be more happier with this product.
Keith : Not salt water tolerant.
They work pretty well for catching crab. However they don't like salt water and will rust fairly quickly.
TD in FL : Great crab trap!
I go crabbing *all the time*. These metal mesh traps work great! Because I go often I re-rig them with sturdier line and I attach 4 instead of 3, sometimes the current is so strong near my crabbing spot I need that 4th line. I use cable ties to rig a weight to the outside of the bottom and more cable ties for the chicken leg I use for bait. Last September I caught this guy, he just barely fit in the basket.
bnaismith : Good value
Perfect to crab while fishing.
Raquel Idziak : Too small and poorly made
Wow. What a piece of junk. The basket is well made but the lines holding onto it are garbage. It is also quite small. I would have returned it but based on the good reviews I thought I would try it and see if I could defeat the odds.

Juan Hernadez : Its ok
I use it to catch crabs but I did not need it because I already got crabs. But thanks anyway for the crab net.
Alex Salinas : Two Stars
I did not like this product very much kinda flimsy and once you bend it it over.
Gabriel Torres : Great net
Awesome trap for blue crab. I bait it with the chicken off of small bridge and it works great. The metal chain basket lays flat when you let the line down and when the crab is in you lift and the basket shape returns. Durable and just needs a quick clean after use.

MMAA : Good.
Good.
brian cotter : Three Stars
Ropes held up maybe 2-3 trips. ????
Richard : Heavy duty net!
You have to use the cloth net to know how good this kind of metal net is. The crawl fish does not stick to it.
Kindle Customer : awesome
I love it prevents crabs from cutting holes in the net and sturdy! Only set back was the thin weak ropes it came with and i replaced with stonger rope. but other than that amazing!
M Taylor : Five Stars
Great!
ss : Pretty much a one crab net
Small. Pretty much a one crab net. However, it works quite well.
LO : Better than box or star style traps
Great crab trap. Easier to use and store than the box and star style traps. Tie a 6oz weight in the middle, use chicken legs as bait, attach a nylon rope and you are ready to crab at your location of choice. Just rinse with fresh water before storing to minimize rusting.
alpha hopkins : Tips using crab net.
Used for crabbing in Grand Isle ,LA beach. Recommend to attach weights on the bottom of the net to prevent from floating due to ocean waves... replace the string to sizable braided rope about 50 ft long and attached to a floater like piece of styrofoam noodle or wood.
