Q:
My logs always catch fire making temps sky rocket. Any tips?
Answer: Same here. I have to keep to main door open to keep it from going over 400. I put small chips in now. Just a few. I mainly use it to help keep a steady temp at low settings. I mostly run my smoke daddy empty now. Like a big $100++ heat diffusion plate. Hope that helps.
Answer: Maybe soaking your logs in water overnight, before using. I normally just crack my hood open if it starts to overheat, which is very rare. I have a Rec Teq pellet smoker, they have the best controller on the market...maybe that's the difference.
Answer: I usually bring it up to 300°, then drop down to 225° or so. Has never given me any problems!
Answer: You do not want to use dry wood to smoke or it will act as a grill not a smoker
Q:
Does this come already assembled?

Answer: Yes it does, it's all welded. There are 4 small removable plates that fit over the ends to hold in the heat once the wood is placed inside.
Answer: yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
Will this work in a Camp Chef Woodwind?
Q:
Will this cause fluctuations in the temperature of my RT 700 due to the introduction of a secondary heat source?
Answer: I've own a 680 for 6.5 yrs. I've tried many "extra smoke" gadgets and gizmos. Without a doubt, this is the best and most efficient add-on I've ever used! Have never had any temp fluctuations in the 20 or so cooks I've had since last fall. Not sure what the issue is that other folk are experiencing.
Answer: What I did was prop the lid open about an inch and that worked pretty well. After the smoke dissipated I closed the lid for the rest of the cook. You will get more smoke. Hope this helps.
Q:
Will this fit Camp Chef xxl?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Will it fit a pitboss 1100 pro?
Q:
Does someone have a link the the manual you can send me?
Q:
Will it work on my zgrillz 7002b
Answer: I do not own a zgrillz. I did have to lower the profile and bend in part of the metal mesh for it to fit snug in my Traeger. If you have a little metal work experience it can fit as long as the depth and width are within the parameters of your grill. Check out their site for exact fit and whether it will fit your grill.

Q:
Will this fit a vertical smoker
Answer: Is your smoker a pellet burner? If yes, how large? This makes all the difference in the world. Just took off two briskets after a 20 hr smoke , was just the right amount of smoke.

Answer: According to the website, it will not fit the Pit Boss 1100 pro.
Q:
If you use this without wood chunks, will it more evenly disperse heat theoughout the smoker, reducing hot spots?
Answer: It seems to perform as well, if not better than the stock diffuser that came with my pellet smoker. I put lava rocks in both chambers (both when I am burning wood chunks and when I am not) and that seems to help more evenly dissipate the heat over the entire diffuser surface. Hope this helps you.
Answer: Not really
Q:
Will this fit a Traeger 575? If not, is the return shipping free?
Answer: I can't be 100% sure but it should fit any pellet grill with a centered burnpot and a 19-1/2″ Diameter Barrel. It is the same size as a standard heat diffuser. Shipping is not free for returns.

So, it says to crack the lid to drop to the desired temperature, but doing so introduces more air and the logs go Chernobyl. How do you control heat?
Answer: I own a RecTec 680. For me, I just load it with wood chunks of choice, leave the lid closed and run it up to 300⁰ until the smoke is rolling. Then I turn it down to my desired temp and cook away. It's always worked for me without any issues and completely burns the wood to ash.

Q:
Does anyone know for sure if this will fit a traeger timberline 850 and if so how well it works vs the traeger "super smoke " setring?
Answer: Hi, yes this will definitely work on the Traeger Timberline 850 and will produce quite a bit more smoke, although since this model grill is a smaller size and doesn't have a smoke stack you may need to crack the lid in order to allow the heat to escape. The Heavy D does produce a little more heat so it may be necessary to add some more ventilation in order to maintain lower temperatures. The "Super Smoke" setting does produce additional smoke, although the Heavy D produces a great quality stick burner type smoke versus the pellet smoke.
Answer: If your burn pot is located in the center and you have 19 1/2” across it will work.
Q:
Will it fit a Traeger Pro Select?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Will this fit a Z Grills 7002E smoker?
Answer: I don't know, I have the Rec Tec pellet smoker. I think as long as you have a center pot and 19.5 inch barrel, it will fit. I would check their website before ordering...it does work GREAT.
Q:
I bought this for my traeger. The thing is why does it get to hot and flames come up on the sides of the drip pan? Am I putting to many chunks in it?
Answer: Your chunks may be too small. You need one chunk 7 inches long on each side. This is what I use and it works.
Q:
Where is the best place to buy the wood for it
Q:
Does it fit GMG ?
Answer: I think so.
Q:
Would this work on the campchef woodwing wifi ? their deflector is connected to a lever that pulls the deflector in order to have direct heat.
Q:
I’m assuming this won’t fit the traeger tailgate model?
Answer: Sorry no this will not fit on a tailgater.
Q:
Fits Rec Tec 680?
Answer: I believe so. As long as your burn pot is in the middle of your grill it will fit your Rec Tec.
Answer: Absolutely!
Q:
Is this compatible with the gmg daniel boone?
Answer: Fits any pellet grill with a centered burnpot and a 19-1/2″ Diameter Barrel.
Q:
Will this work on a green mountain Davey Crocket?
Answer: It should fit as long as your burn pot is in the middle of your grill. If for any reason it does not work for you just return it for a full refund. Thank you
Q:
Will this work in a pit boss xl austin 1000
Answer: I have the pit boss 820, it fits over the burn cup but I had to take a grinder and cut off the the feet for the drip shield to sit back correctly.
Answer: If you have the domed flame broiler in your pit boss it will not work.
Answer: As long as the burner is in the center of grill you should be fine. This is a great product, all the difference in the world as far as smoke flavor.
Q:
How about fitting a Yoder 640? Love the convenience of pellets, but not enough smoke flavor.
Answer: Unfortunately this will not fit a Yoder. Sorry.
Product reviews of The Smoke Daddy Heavy D: Pellet Grill Stick Burning Heat Diffuser
mini14gb : Maybe.....maybe not.
This thing is built like a tank. I get the concept but the execution is lacking. I chose to return it
thecarndog : Works very well!
Really heavy duty. Allows my Pit Boss hold lower temps now. I did have to grind one one the tabs to fit. But, meh. Whatever. I’m good with grinding. The only thing I’m not ok with is... if you know this thing needs 4 lava rocks to use, include them.
Pro Tip- don’t smash your original heavy heat diffuser with a car. It goes too too flat. You need a kinda curve still.
Nesey81 : Does not fit Pit Boss
I was under the impression that it would fit my Pit Boss pellet grill and it is too large to fit underneath grates, waste of money
HomeGrown : Everything Looks Great will cook soon
The material is very well made, and I received a few log splits with the diffuser. I cannot wait to get this thing on my traeger and test it out! I will post videos and pics soon, once I get it installed. Super Excited. I am thrilled to support a hardworking small business.
James Zoglmann : My pellet smoker now tastes like a stick burner!
I've only had a chance to use it on a 3 hour cook, but it made a 100% difference in the amount of smoke and smoke taste on my pellet smoker! It truly is the best of both worlds. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!!

Matt : Built very solid but wood ignites/too hot
Very well made of solid material. I tried full log shape and chunks but wood kept igniting and temps get way too hot. I soaked chunks for 2+ hrs and once I exceeded 190 degrees the wood ignited and got too hot. Cracking door to Ironwood 650 did not help at all.
Isssam Wahhab : Temp control
Used on my traeger 575. Need to use smaller wood chunks and not logs. Temp is hard to control even with lid cracked open it cooks about 180 over selected temp. At this point I just put 2 smaller wood chunks in each and it adds a bit smoke flavor but not too noticeable.
K. Weisenburger : Wonderful Product to Enhance a Pellet Grill-Smoker
I really like the design and construction of this stick burner diffuser. In each of the two chambers I added 3 large lava rocks, then a wood chunk, followed by three more lava rocks, a wood chunk and finally capped off with three more lava rocks. I experienced some flame when the chunks caught fire about 1.5 hours into my 7 hour smoke (after I raised the grill temp from 225 to 250) but was able to prop open the lid about 2 inches (as recommended by Smoke Daddy) and the temp stayed stable. I may wrap the lava rock and chunks in foil next cook and perforate with some holes before stuffing in each chamber next cook. My two 3-lb. chuck roasts turned out beautiful and had that enhanced pecan wood smoke flavor. Thank you Smoke Daddy for an excellent product!
Dustin Langel : Great deflector with added smoke.
I purchased one of these directly from their website when they first came out. It works perfectly in any smoker with a centered burn pot with the auger tube raised. I decided to use mine in a Pit Boss Copperhead vertical smoker so I did have to make a few modifications. On the Pitboss smokers the burn pot actually sits below the the floor so I had to close up the middle openings and enlarge the side slots, but this was because of how pit boss made their smoker.
justmattb : Works good, but pay attention to heat
Modified this to fit my Grilla Grills Silverbac grill and gave it its first run. Followed the instructions that said to start off the grill at 250-275 with the lid closed, which I did. Inside the diffuser was the wood that came with it, so it was pretty full. The wood quickly caught fire and brought the temps up well over 400 and climbing. Eventually was able to control the fire and bring it back down and shut everything down. Had I not, it might not have ended well. After that, I reached out to the company and they recommended using smaller chunks of wood and possibly add some lava rock inside. So, taking that guidance, that's just what I did. I mixed in some smaller chunks with some lava rock and that definitely kept the fire under control, while introducing quite a bit more smoke into the chamber. Once I got this thing modded to fit my grill and adjusted how I was adding wood, this thing really did the job I expected.
