Will the drag system hold up under 20 pounds tension. Would like to use in a Downrigger system for fishing salmon. Don’t want it to creep out.

Answer: No instructions or reel case came with this purchase. Plan to use on an eight weight rod for king salmon in small rivers. Untested.

Is this reel designed for Spey fly fishing? I have a 7wt. 13' spey rod that I need a reel for.

Answer: I would buy a Orvis Battenkill. A few more dollars but a trusted design.

would the 7/10 reel size loaded with 10wt line balance out on 8wt rod?

Answer: i have the 9/13 reel with 10wt out bound short. it holds a good amount of backer, for long runs. love the reel. i think the 7/10 would balance well, but will hold less backer. all depends on what your fishing for, and how long of runs you except.

Answer: This reel is a newer light weight design. If used with an "old school" or heavier 8 wt rod, then may not balance. If used with the newer lightweight rods, then 10 weight line may work for the 8 wt rod.

Answer: I use it on my 8wt rod with a 10wt fast sinking line, works great.

I purchased the 12/14 wt. With 12 wt line it holds a lot of backing. Great price for a sealed reel. It came it with left hand reeling, that saved a step. It comes with no instructions, but its a reel what do you need to know?
