Questions about Aventik Z Tenkara Rods Pro IM12 Nano 6:4 Action 5 Most Used Sizes All Water Conditions Quality Carbon Tube Packing, Extra Spare Sections Included, Tenkara Fly Rods&Combo
Q:
Someone in reviews says that if you get a 12’ mini rod you can remove 3 sections to make it 9’ and it’s easy to do. Which sections do you remove?
Q:
What type of line is best to use with this rod?
Answer: I don't recommend using floating line with tenkara unless you need to tie in a little piece to your level line for some extra casting power when using dry flies. Most American tenkara anglers use level lines in size 2 to 4.5 (3.5 is most common) and that will cover most situations except for euro nymphing. Furled lines are nice and give good smooth casts, esp for streamers, but they spook more fish whereas level lines are much thinner. Floating line just creates drag issues, whereas furled and level lines give direct connection to the fly and you have almost zero drag. That's the biggest benefit of tenkara!
Answer: It depends on the type of fishing you do. I use both furled lines and floating fly lines. The fly lines cast a little easier, I used 12' of level 2 weight floating fly line (the back end of a fly line I already had), good for floating or slow sinking flies. The furled lines are lighter and tend to sink a bit, which I like when I'm fishing wet flies and streamers.
Q:
what do you donwith the hook keepers and how do you attach the line?
Answer: Hook keepers go on the rod so you can have extra flies handy. You can google “hook keepers” and see pics of what I mean. With a Tenkara rod, the tip has a small piece of line with a small knot at the end. The Tenkara lines have a loop on the rod end of the fly line. You simply push the line thru itself (at the loop), put the knotted tip thru that looped line and pull tight. It’s easier done than explained. Finally just tie some fishing line (tippet 4-6’) to the end of the flyline and add a fly.
Answer: Tie a stopper knot in the Lilian string that is already on the rod tip . The line will have a loop that slips thru itself that then tightens against the stopper knot - look up some you tube videos on attaching Tenkara line .
Answer: I recommend you go to YouTube and search for Tenkara fishing and watch the demo’s. There are several videos that show you how to attach the line, keepers, casting technique, etc.
Q:
How do I get rod fixed as the screw on base of the rod is stripped?
Answer: You would have to contact AVENTIK - They have a good warranty -
Q:
Is this model the 9' or the 12'?
Answer: It's the 12, looks like the 9 isn't an option.
Answer: It's the 12. It's not clear in the description. It almost sounded like you are getting two rods. Haven't fished with it yet, but it seems well-made.
Answer: I ordered the 9' model. I am very impressed so far! Very light and compact with nice action!
Q:
Are line and flies included with this set? One reviewer said 12 flies and line were included, but there is no mention in the product description
Answer: No, mine came with no line or flies. I bought DragonTail Tenkara's "Basic Tenkara Level Line Starter Kit" along with it (https://www.amazon.com/Basic-Tenkara-Level-Line-Starter/dp/B078H3C3TM/)
Answer: It is only the rod - I ordered line and flies separately - It is really a NANO sized rod - I am travelling and it will fit into a backpack - I am not thrilled that the handle is not cork but that is what enables it to retract to such a short length and it is light as a feather -
Answer: It did not include any flies and line. Just the rod and case.
Answer: Mine did not come with line or flies.
Answer: No. Just the Rod.
Q:
Does this have the swivel tip?
Answer: No. It doesn’t. It does have the piece of string at the tip (I forget the name of the string). Put a knot in the string and then loop the leader/tippet above the knot. That’s the beauty of this setup is that you can loosen the leader/tippet, roll up and pack away. By the way, I strongly encourage you to purchase the leader/tippet for tenkara rods.
Answer: Yes, it has a swivel tip.
Answer: Yes.
Q:
How long is the rod tube on the 9’ 10 piece micro version?
Answer: I have the Nano 9 section 10’8’’ which will be larger than the rod you described. The tube is 20 inches. The rod is 18 inches. Do they make custom tubes for each rod design? I don’t know. The Micro certainly shouldn’t be any longer if this helps at all
Answer: 12 inches
Q:
With a rod stiffness of 6:4, this 9' rod should be able to handle up to around a 2Kg or 4.5 pound fish without a problem, correct?
Answer: I don’t know. I can’t imagine a 4 lb. fish on this rod. The tip is the most susceptible part, so much so that they send a spare with the rod. It would be fun trying I’m sure.
Product reviews of Aventik Z Tenkara Rods Pro IM12 Nano 6:4 Action 5 Most Used Sizes All Water Conditions Quality Carbon Tube Packing, Extra Spare Sections Included, Tenkara Fly Rods&Combo
Douglas A. Waterman : Nice, simple rod at a great price.
I already have a 12' Tenkara but wanted a 9 footer for fishing some tiny little creeks, but the 9' was not available, so I ordered the 12' and took three of the sections off, simple enough to do. I'm very satisfied with this rod at both 9' and 12' at half the cost of others. I use mine for trout, smallmouth and largemouth bass and panfish. If you're curious about Tenkara, give this one a try, the 6:4 is a versatile light action, match it with a section of #2 or 3 weight fly line or buy a Tenkara line and you're set. Tenkara fishing is as simple as you can get, and the rod packs down small enough that you can take it everywhere. If you already fish a fly rod give one of these a try.
Kelly J. Panozzo : Good starter rod
Lightweight and perfect for teaching our kids the basics!
Ed K : It catches fish
I found this rod to be easy to use. It casts nice after a little practice and handles fish well. Although I haven't caught anything of significant size yet with but I am still optimistic.
Kindle Customer : Great value
Same blank that the expensive brands use. Great cork handle. I got the 11 foot model and it comes with 2 extra tips and a great case with a metal cap. I am going to buy another in a longer size for bigger rivers. I buy 1 weight fly lines and use the running line cut to various lengths and it works great.
C D. : Quality is good for price.
Wish it came white level line.
Gerald Reichman : the second tip
Adding the second tip with the rod is a great bonus.
Mel : Great rod!
Excellent product delivered a day earlier than expected.
Andrew Nelson : Amazing, Practically weightless, Perfect for Backpacking
I brought this while hiking the JMT and it was absolutely perfect. Most people who fish still don't know what a Tenkara rod is and how simple and ultralight fishing can be. I caught tons of trout in both rivers and lakes in the high sierras. To save on weight, I opted out of bringing the aluminum case and instead rolled the rod up with my tent which provided plenty of protection.
The T's : Excellent Tenkara Rod
With many competitive rods costing over twice as much, I was very surprised by the quality. I haven't cast many Tenkara rods except at trade shows and expos, but wanted to try one in real fishing environments to see if I liked the experience. I took a gamble and bought this one for a friend as a b'day gift. We rigged it up and took it out on a high mountain brookie stream in Wyoming and was impressed with the accuracy, sensitivity, lightness and overall performance. We didn't catch anything over 10" that day, but the rod performed as well as any we'd cast before at the indoor casting pools at the trade shows. Maybe in a side-by-side comparison with the more expensive brands you would see a difference, but for the purpose of experiencing the Tenkara rod in real fishing scenarios, I don't think you would be disappointed. I'm getting one for myself and will continue to explore more about this technique alongside my traditional fly fishing trips.
MOSS_835 : Quick shipping and better product than expected
It's probably going to get 5 stars but since I haven't had it on the water yet can only give it 4....it was better than I expected, so far very impressed, can't wait to have that first fish on it
