The fillet knife was dull when I received it. Years ago I purchased a larger version and it is still sharp today after years of use. This knife was so dull upon receipt that it barely cut through fish meat. I had to sharpen it myself to finish the job and these knives "never require sharpening".

I have a Bubba 9'' I use for larger fish I catch off-shore. However, for my smaller inshore fish and freshwater fish, I purchased this 6". It is true Bubba style with a nice grip and a good blade. However, this blade does not flex enough for me. With the handle being so large and the blade short in comparison, it is hard to get the right flex and work with detail when cutting around the rib cage of smaller fish like spec. My Rapala with the good ol' fashion wood handle and 6" blade does a better job even though a cheaper knife. I'll stick with Bubba for big fish, but for the smaller fish I'd buy Rapala 6".
