Answer: Smokers shouldn't catch fire, though this one is designed poorly and almost can't help it. Our's caught fire and ruined our Thanksgiving dinner. After that happened, I did some research and found out this particular smoker catches fire frequently.

Answer: There is not much you can do to help but you can try put high heat temperature oil on the tracks to help it slide in and out.

Answer: I live in Central Valley CA where coldest it gets is lower 40s. I haven’t used it that cold yet...but I’m guessing getting in low 30s may not be good for this unit. It may take too long to get to right temp, and it may have trouble holding. That’s just my take on it. Seems like a unit built for California.

Answer: Yes.....depends on the on/off mood swings of the thermostat. I use a separate remote thermo and shoot for the median temp while cooking. ....also, refrain from opening the door so much.

Answer: thought the same thing so I modified them to close most of the way. seems to help. first mod was just bend the tab since it was in use second mod made new covers that close all the way.
Answer: You are. Try keeping one vent completely closed, with the other cracked open only an 1/8 inch. The vents aren't a snug fit anyway and you need a bit of ventilation for best result. Good luck!!

Answer: Hi there, these smokers were designed to function between 200-275 degrees.
Answer: The temp gauge is junk try using a different temperature gauge. On my temp gauge it only goes up to 225 but it’s really over 300. I use an remote gauge.
Answer: I have found out that the thermometer that came with the pit is not accurate. I purchased a separate oven thermometer and get more accurate readings.
Answer: Smoked meat is suppose to cook low and slow. If you had a high heat, your meat would probably be tough.

Answer: I would not recommend that .. the small chip wood pieces work great ,you need to pre soak the chips (As the instructions say) to help the “slow control “smoke to happen .. if you did that to wood pellets the swell up and turn into a wood sawdust mush,and that would not help the flavor nor the clean up will be bad..

Answer: Hi there, in step 2 it says to take out the water pan first then coat the unit in oil. Once the coating is done then you can put the water pan back in and continue to step 3.
Answer: Yes use the water pan all the time keep it full of water or some water tow points I can tell you off the back … …your food will not be moist also it helps keep the temperature stable when slow cooking..when you open the door the temperature drops 20-30 degrees right now,the water will help recovery time back up to a minimum

I really wanted to like this product. Considering the price it is well constructed. Good looking, decent flexibility in the rack arrangement...
I love the 2-door design to that allows access to add wood chip and water (small water pan).
main issue is that the unit is critically underpowered. The thermometer goes up to 500F for some odd reason, the unit itself would NOT exceed 245F in over an hour of trying at the "high" setting.
According to the manufacturer it should get to 325F...but it won't even do that. Checking reviews on line this is a frequent complaint. Stories show that the manufacturer will send a replacement heating coil...but they have a rep for not lasting more than a dozen cooks.

Received it a few days ago, put it together started it up, followed all directions, sucks at holding in heat and when it was shipped the whole top of it was dented in, 200$ smoker came in with the box all beat up and the top was dented. Custom Woodworks : Died in less than 90 days
Heating element went out in less than 90 days. Used it 5-6 times. Called to order a replacement element under warranty two weeks ago. Called today to ask when I could expect it and was told it was coming from China and could take another 6 weeks. Pit Boss suggest I call Amazon for a replacement since they couldn’t get me the part. Amazon was no help as it was outside their 30 day window. Got home today to find the part had been delivered today with absolutely no instructions. Took 30-45 minutes to replace a heating element that had gone to pieces in less than 90 days. When it works, it is a great bargain. When it doesn’t work, expect a headache. Put a 6.5 lb pork roast on mid-day today and we are smoking again.
Snagger2003 : Great Smoker
This is a great smoker. After about 30 minutes to assemble I cured it as indicated in the manual. The next day I smoked a whole chicken (apple wood chips) and it turned out great! I also smoked a whole rack of ribs and again they were great. Did a brisket three days ago and it was perfect. One thing to do if you plan to use smoke pellets is to not over-fill the tray whit pellets. I add a thin layer of chips in the tray and then a reasonable layer of pellets on top. The chips will get going quicker and then the pellets will sustain the smoke for a longer period of time.

Best smoker I've ever owned! Smart interior design, ceramic coated racks, large water pan, large wood chip drawer you can slide out from bottom, and ash catching tray beneath. Works great and easy to clean. Love that it is electric so I can use it on my patio. I'm done with babysitting charcoal and gas grills. Turn this one on and forget it until meat is done.

Not bad at all! I have smoked a few times with this and I have had no issues with temps or the warmth. If it is your first time buying a smoker then I recommend this purchase to start with and to get use to before purchasing a bigger smoker.

Used this product for 3 or 4 times with no problem. Then the electronics board went bad. Had it replaced in a reasonable amount of time. Used it 1 time and it needed to be replaced again. Used that one 1 time and it needed replaced again. Used the smoker one more time and now today it does not work again after 1 use. I am so embarrassed that I purchased this rather pricey smoker as a Christmas gift for my brother in law this year! Don't buy it!!!!!!

Not sure what warmth or sheerness have to do with a smoker. I’m using this to smoke meat not make a fashion statement.
Overall I’m happy with this smoker. I’ve used Hickory and Mesquite wood chips. I couldn’t get the temperature much above 250 deg F until I switch from Hickory to Mesquite. Still could not raise it above 300. Good enough for my purposes.
I really like the glass front.
I use a meat thermometer with an attached readout to monitor the internal meat temp. Better than opening the smoker to check.

Max temp appears to be closer to 225 degrees but it has trouble maintaining that temp for any extended period. Product description states it should reach 325 degrees. This was not my experience at all. I was disappointed in this unit and would not recommend. I contacted Pit Boss and Amazon about the trouble. Amazon sent another unit to replace the defective one and told me to toss the first unit rather than return it. Five or six weeks later I was then billed for the replacement unit. Dispute for additional charge continues to be ongoing.

Buy 2 oven thermometers and figure out the temps on your own. I found the one on the door was 70° to low.
And no markings on the knob, I carved 3 notches on mine to know what temp I would be at. On full blown high it was 350°
Once it heats up there is no pulling out the smoke box as the metal expands.
This is my first smoker and I'm learning still but I made some great ribs. Once you figure it out it's well built and sturdy and it seals up really well. Good value for the money.

For the money it is a good smoker, starts smoking within 10-15 of starting it and reaches higher temperatures than most models. If you are looking for a good starter smoker I would recommend it.
