Answer: I used it for a very similar purpose, to catch gars, carp and other trash fish, and it worked very well for me. The only concern is that it is difficult to remove the fish without tearing up the net. Basically, it is a one time use. I used it for only one night an caught about 60 gars and carp.

Here is my review. To start with I have done commercial gillnetting for 15 years and I can tell you one thing that sets all gillnets apart. It is how the mesh is attached to the top and the bottom of the rope, top with floats bottom with weights. Mesh other than the actual size of the holes is almost the same for lake fish. Most cheap Chinese nets are attached to a single really this string that is soft and gets entangled in the webbing of the net. All professional nets have stiff and much thicker rope which makes it easier to set the net fast and without snags. This particular net is close to the professional level, it has two stiff ropes with weights and floats in between yet it comes at a fraction of a cost of the professionally made net. Wish it was longer, more like 150 yards. With daily use in the lakes, you will get about two years of use out of it. This gillnet is perfect for targeting Walleye and pike approximately 4 to 5-pound range. Because this is a 3 layer net it will catch bigger fish too yet it will be harder to remove them due to how they wrap themselves in. If you wish to target bigger fish you should get a larger mesh about 6x6cm.

I ordered the net twice the length needed with plans to cut in half and have two nets. Instead I doubled the net for first use and had never thought of that before but what a difference it made for some reason. This net is a lot easier to handle than the big round cork nets and take up way less room in one container. I'm not cutting this net in half and will order another one just like it and double it too. I figure I can store two hundred feet of this net in a five gallon bucket with room to spare.

Great for the price! The floats could be bigger, the weights could be heavier, but for me who will only use it 3 or 4 times a year it'll do just fine. Caught a lot of gizzard shad this weekend with it. Make sure you open the package and unpack the net before taking it on your boat- it's wrapped up very complicated for shipping and it takes some time to untangle. Bring a 5 gal bucket the first time and use that for storage- it'll never fit back in the container it came with. After you do a couple of sets with it, it'll lay in the bucket right and come out without a problem. It is a little difficult to get the fish out of the net, especially larger fish so you end up having to cut it sometimes. These cuts cause little tangles but overall it is still very functional. I'll be buying another soon.

I bought this for my friend Angel, in North Carolina, since he mentioned wanting this. Here is what he had to say about it, "Absolutely this is the best net I've ever had. Cheap price, but it worked amazingly. I put this one and the other one of a similar size that I purchased in my local fishing store (at triple the price!) in a pond. This one caught 11 fish while the other one caught nothing except something unwanted (flotsam). I checked out the trammel and found it was really well built by NIGHT CAT, the float and sinker didn't get lost or tangled, and the mono-filament for this size is strong enough. I definitely will buy another but I hope there will be more sizes available." I don't know much about net fishing, but he really seems to like it.

This net was extremly difficult to untangle right out of the bag. The end of the net was brought back up the middle inbetween the layers of the net. Was maybe able to use 50ft of it. The floats do not hold the net up so had to tie a bottle at the end so i knew where it was. Line is maybe 6lb test line if that.

Buyer 23 : Great sturdy net

I bought a number of gill nets off of Amazon. This is the best hands down no comparison. The cheap ones go bad after a few uses and catch all kinds of tiny little fish that are to small to clean and eat. This is quite durable and gives you the ability to purchase nets with holes that let the little fish swim through so you only have to mess around with the kind of fish you want to keep.
