Answer: I used it for a very similar purpose, to catch gars, carp and other trash fish, and it worked very well for me. The only concern is that it is difficult to remove the fish without tearing up the net. Basically, it is a one time use. I used it for only one night an caught about 60 gars and carp.

It appears that all nets are made very light. But I had no trouble with it. I launched from the beach once and the wind caused it to flip in the surf (I put on large buoys to help it leave the beach. It was a tangled mess. But taking my time, it came apart nicely and I reused it with no problems. Decent net for the money.

Great for the price! The floats could be bigger, the weights could be heavier, but for me who will only use it 3 or 4 times a year it'll do just fine. Caught a lot of gizzard shad this weekend with it. Make sure you open the package and unpack the net before taking it on your boat- it's wrapped up very complicated for shipping and it takes some time to untangle. Bring a 5 gal bucket the first time and use that for storage- it'll never fit back in the container it came with. After you do a couple of sets with it, it'll lay in the bucket right and come out without a problem. It is a little difficult to get the fish out of the net, especially larger fish so you end up having to cut it sometimes. These cuts cause little tangles but overall it is still very functional. I'll be buying another soon.

I'm a fisherman and I have been using many different fishing nets, but this one is the best one I've ever used.The quality is very good: the mono line is limp but very strong,the biggest fish I got was around 10 lb and the net is still in good condition. The floats and sinkers are stitched tightly on the ropes and I didn't see any damages after several times fishing.The design is very smart,there are more meshes on the bottom than above to make a "bag",all fish went to the "bag" when they touch the net. What I need to do was just to pick them up from the "bag".

This is truly a 3 layer net where as the first one I got was not. I spread this net out in the river by myself with one side wrapped around a 5 foot piece of wood. Sank that into the sand. Waded out a bit not even chest high and maybe out 50 foot from shore. Brought net into shore and was overwhelmed at the number of fish. I got tired of taking them out. This net I had small croaker and crabs plus some big gizzard shad. Shad was my target and some were so big they were hard to get out of the net. Amazing. 2 separate 3 min sweeps produced about 30-40 gizzard shad and multiple crabs and croaker

I come from a family that fishes every weekend. We use spears, fishing poles, throw nets, and gill nets regularly. I have used these types of nets my whole life and I have never seen a net tangle so bad after 1 use in calm waters.
I layed the net correctly in a calm and slow moving side river, little to no rocks on the riverbed, and in only 5 to 6 feet deep water. I have fished that exact spot with other similar nets for years.
The net kept flapping up because the weights on the bottom line are not heavy enough to keep it down. I didn't catch any fish because the bottom of the net kept flapping and floating upwards. I watched the fishes swim right under the net. I removed the net slowly to avoid tangling while I followed the line to fold it little by little... because it kept flapping up it tangled in many different areas on the line. The tangles were so bad that I had to cut it.
I am very disappointed and will never order this again. I don't recommend it.

Works good for Catching bait fish but the buoys on the top are not enough to hold the net afloat. I had to add some larger buoys which got it to float in then added a couple small weights on the bottom to help it lay out Properly.But other than that it works great I also cut it in half and made TWO 50' Gill nets.

This is a very nice fishing net. Almost any fish can be caught on it. It's light, easy to put in the water and to remove it. Amazingly it fit in a very very small box, only 1/10 of the space of my other nets. The only reason I don't give 5 stars rating, it's because the monofilament is to fragile, it breaks very easily, even when removing the fish! A more stonger monofilament will make this net a perfect one!
