Answer: Yes I think so, I can't honestly remember because ours broke the first weekend we tried it last year. My daughter, 9, used it to try to catch a frog and it snapped in half. An adult being careful with it would probably be fine, but for an excited kid going fishing, no.

Answer: Mine came in hinged and the screw/bolt on one end. Open it up to form round hoop, then careful thread the bolt to other end (will form complete ring), then screw the threaded bolt to end of net shaft to attach together.

I needed a new net to catch chickens. I had a crab net for years thought I’d try this. It nice it folds away but it orates easily so birds can slip away.

The image is misleading - The handle (collapsing) does not “lock”. The net “spins” around, almost like a weathervane, to the path of least resistance. CAN'T BE USED FOR FISHING

Nice design and great value. Compact and sturdy. I recommend for casual outings. This is not a bass tournament grade or size net but it is great for trout and panfish.

Not worth the money. Bought to use for shrimping. Dipped it in twice to try to catch shrimp. Third time, the handle bent and will not retract any more. Very cheap, not well made. For some reason I cant get a photo to attach.

I live on a farm - I have screened-in porches - some animals have torn holes in some screens, and birds get IN - and then they just can't see the original hole to make their way back out - soon flying into the screen at some other points! I have never injured a single animal I have caught! I have also used this new net to capture a floundering 13" Catfish, & move him from an evaporating pond - to another deeper pond, & saved his life. I have caught birds on my porch from Hummingbirds, up to a Peregrine Falcon - all safely released - I just wait for them to tire first - unless I fear they will injure themselves. I have also caught mice, mouses, & rabbits that my cat catches, and brings into the house to play with... This net is the perfect size for the captures I have used it for - it has yet to tear - although - getting the catfish out was a bugger! Because of his sharp fins - I had to get into the 2nd pond, and submerge the fish & net - before he figured his own way out. That did cause some stretching of some holes in the net - but not enough to keep me from catching what I usually catch - birds and very small mammals!

Great net for frog, crawfish, small turtle catching! Bought this for my 8 son to use at our pond and the lake down the road. We were getting tired of the short handled cheapo kids nets. Been using it for about a month+ now and caught dozens of frogs and bluegill with it (catch and release). So fun! Durable for what it is, little kids are brutal on stuff and he's dragged this thing through the heavy muck and weeds. Nothing is bent or torn yet.

I would love to post a picture, however we used it the day it arrived while crabbing and the net needs to be constant tightened. So without noticing it fell right off into the ocean and it wasn’t recovered. It works and durable just wish it didn’t fall off on the first day using it.

The netting is nylon about right for insects but will proudly rip when used ifor aquatic use. The frame is sturdy but the pole is not stiff enough to catch wild minnows or fish , wish they used a thicker material. I’m thinking I will replace with a wooden pole when it breaks ( the bolt in net frame will come in handy) It’s hard to find a strong net to catch wild creatures this one is better than most. So far I like it and intend to use it with cation.

The handle is not long enough to catch shrimp from a boat. It is designed for catching shrimp out of an aquarium or something.... I wanted a shrimp net I can shrimp out of a boat with.

Used this net to crab with. Not even as strenuous as landing a fish and the handle snapped even without full extension. The metal of the handle is thin and cheap.

customer in VA : good idea but not well built, already broke and design problems

Got it for crabbing and maybe occasionally landing smaller fish. I liked how long it was and its net quality (small openings) but that's about it. Problems:
1. the telescoping pole does not lock in. that means the net circle rotates. when you catch a crab or land a fish it may turn sideways (rotate) and you can loose your catch. I solved this problem by extending the pole to the length i wanted and then locking the joints with bolt adhesive (automotive). You could also use metal hose clamps to secure. But in both cases, you loose the foldability function.

2. the metal pole is thin and when i wanted to get a huge crab, it bent a little and then it broke off. I plan to get a 1/2 galvanized tube and replace the pole... :(

I would not buy it. I cant return because i bought this in advance of our crabbing trip and the return window expired. well... it was good for about 20 crabs.... If i needed to buy a net again, i would get a non-telescoping pole to avoid problems. I gave 2 stars because of the net and the overall idea. but i would not recommend it.
