Answer: Hello, no they don’t have caps on either end. You are supposed to fill it with pellets and light it and let it burn down. Then you carefully move it.

Answer: This is not a one time use product. I think this metal is made out of stainless steel and most metal does tarnish when heated but remain usable. and strong. Avoid exposing to wet environment to prevent corrosion.

Answer: It would a very slow process if it would work. I recommend using a tank with a torch like for seating copper pipe or used for camping.

Confused. Will and normal long butane grill lighter work and I only want light smoking for 15-30 minutes so was only going to use 1/2 cup.
Answer: We tried lighting with a long butane lighter and it took several attempts for it to stay lit and we had it completely filled. We tried smoking salmon which takes about 25 to 35 mins and even though it got smokey, we smelled more like smoke than the salmon did. Wish the salmon had more of the smoke scent. Next time we will get a propane torch so as not to waste the lighter and will start the smoking process earlier before actually cooking the salmon and see if that helps.
Answer: I used long lighter that I use for candles and it took several minutes of consistent lighting to get pellets burning well. The Pellet Smoke Tube is ideal if you already have grill and want smoked flavor. I think that you could use a lesser amount of pellets if you wanted. I was going to purchase a smoker but now I don't have to.

How to start a tube smoker?
Answer: There are several ways to start it but normally you would just have the tube in the bbq near one of the burners. You could do it with a torch and then have it sloped so that it burns up at an angle. It works really well with my gas smoker, way better than chips.
Answer: I stand the tube on end, fill it up with pellets, and then use my torch to start a good sized fire. Once the entire end is aflame I let the fire burn for a minute, then blow it out and lay it on its side to smoke for hours.
Answer: This smoker, simplicity itself, has so far shown itself to be the best of several products I've tried. However, lighting it is difficult. If you want to smoke something while cooking it, you can leave the smoker on the hot grill fifteen or twenty minutes before you want to cook. But if you want to cold smoke, you need to use a torch more powerful than a Bic lighter. I've used a roofing torch, but a smaller one you can buy in a hardware store would work, too. Forget about using matches.

Answer: I don't think wood chips are recommended. If you read the FAQs you'll find that at least one person says "The chips are hard to get into the smoker. You get more flavor out of the Pellets because they are packed into the tube and burn longer. So I recommend the Pellets." However, another reader uses "chopped up chips" successfully. As for me, I bought a small bag of pellets for about $8 and am very happy. A full tube lasts quite a while and gave my meat a good, light smokey flavor.

Answer: I recently made some trout on the grill (which doesn't take a long time to cook) and kept the smoker under the cover for the duration and I got very good results. Make sure it's smoking really well when you cover the grill otherwise it will stop smoking. I used cherry and the fish was amazing! I think 30 minutes should be more than enough to smoke any meat, though I didn't try burgers yes.

Answer: The directions would say to light the open end and let it burn for 5-10 min then blow it out. With a full tube, you could expect this to smoke for 5-6 hours. I imagine you could do as you say but the number of pellets you would ignite would not be very well controlled. It sounds like you are using this on your grill so you would not be worried about the smoke time. On the grill I wouldn't think you would use up to a quarter of the tube filled with pellets, but this will become more clear as you use it.

It’s a great product.

The food must be either kept cool enough for food safety or be in the presence of a sufficient heat source to safely cook the food. It does, however, provide a wonderful source of smoke for adding that delicious smoked flavor to food being cooked in a gas grill, smoking cheese, etc. I have had great results with mine adding smoke flavor to chicken, beef chuck roasts, etc.

Answer: If you were very patient, you could probably use a long lighter but life is too short. A propane torch costs about $12 for the torch part and $6 for the replaceable/refillable tank. I probably get about 10/15 lightings per tank, probably cheaper than a lighter in the long run.
Answer: I have not had good luck with my smoker. Once I finally get it lit it burns a flame that really makes my gas grill hot. I was reimbursed by the company for mine because of my dissatisfaction, which was very commendable of them. I am not a good judge of this smoker, so I will have to beg out of this review.
Answer: Propane torch burns hotter and will light the pellets sufficiently to burn evenly. I use a propane torch used for soldering. Available at Walmart and hardware stores.

Answer: If cold smoking, I would put it where the water pan normally goes. If you are using heat (cooking meat), I put mine on the bottom rack and on the rack above I cover the area over the z-smoker with foil to keep fats/oils from dripping down on it.
Answer: I just sit it on any grill. Try and place it towards the bottom best you can but it doesn't have to be in the chip tube.

Answer: Basically it's the same thing. I have the 12" version, and it will smoke for about 4-5 hours when completely filled with pellets. The square shape works best for me because of the configuration of my Weber BBQ. The Carpathen product comes with a storage bag, but that's not a major decision factor. If I were you I would base my decision on price.

I'm usually skeptical, even with positive user reviews, of claims made by a product manufacturer. But this tube is the real deal. I used it to smoke a rack of ribs on my gas grill Saturday and it performed as advertised. It provided consistent smoke for over 4-hours. If you have a gas grill, this is the way to turn it into a smoker. And in my opinion, pellets are better than chips, especially with the longevity of this tube. Just a tip to light the chips, the instructions say to use a butane lighter. I didn't have one so I used a cotton ball soaked in cooking oil. I lit the cotton ball and the pellets fired up no issues.

I have a very nice large pellet smoker at home and wanted to get one for our small vacation home. I've been smoking everything on the big pellet smoker for three years and love the flavor. We were ready to spend another $1000 when my wife spotted the Carpathen Smoke Tube on Amazon. We thought we could give it a try and we're glad we did. The smoke flavor is nearly the same with the Tube and it is easy to use. I normally cold smoke for an hour, prior to turning the heat on as low as possible and the salmon and steaks were fabulous! I use the Tube in a Weber Genesis grill and am very happy with the results.

Works very well. I use with my Weber gas grill. Front burner only on low, smoker on front of grill, meat in back. Produced a lot of smoke. I found that filled with pellets it burned a bit fast and required refilling in a 4-5 hour session. I cut a piece of sheet metal to lay on the bottom to cut down the air flow - lasted 5 hours with very adequate smoke. Considering a metal strip that is half the width of the bottom to provide a bit more smoke along with extended burning time. Producer might want to consider providing a couple of metal strips to permit adjusting the smoke level.

I have a treager smoker and could never quite get enough smoke when I needed it. I picked up this tube and used it to smoke my sablefish this week. This is a game changer. This was the best fish I've ever eaten and the amount of smoke from the tube was awesome. I used trager apple pellets this time around. I purchased this in order to cold smoke Keilbasa, and do it with a bulk pack from the Big-Box stores and this smoker goes for 8 hours or so inside my Weber Smokey Mountain.. Its great for that and i intend to use it to smoke a turkey on my regular grill in the not too distant future.

This smoke tube is excellent for smoking meat and squash! Worth the cost. Really don't need my old smoker cooker anymore. Just take the steak directly out of the frig (or also put it in the freezer for 15 minutes), put it on the gas grill, use the smoke tube to smoke the meat for 45 minutes until the meat is about room temp and then turn on the gas grill for a smoky seared steak. Use a Bluetooth meat thermometer (get Tenergy Solis, I tried another brand but it lost signal too many times) to watch the temp while cold smoking the meat. Get a propane torch, push button ignition, to start the wood pellets in the smoke tube. Smoked grilled steak, can't beat it!

The Z-Smoker is easy to use, I just got done smoking 3 pounds of cheese and it was perfect. Easy to light and does a great job of putting out a steady, long lasting smoke that really infused into the cheese well. I am excited to try a brisket next weekend. I used it in my Vision Kamado grill and couldn't be happier with its performance.

I have a rectec 700 and though I get a good bit of smoke from the grill itself, I wanted more. I decided to go with this smoke tube cause it was a good price and the square shape seemed like the best option. This thing is awesome! I made a small modification to it so that I could reduce the amount of pellets used for when I perform shorter cook times. I wish the manufacturer could add one or 2 of these slots by default. I used aluminum roof flashing as the divider.

This product works as advertised... The most critical factor is humidity level of the pellets you put into it. If the pellets are too humid, they won't stay lit, but that isn't the fault of the smoker tube. Solution? Microwave the pellets for about 4-5 minutes to remove excess moisture

Works perfectly with Camp Chef Applewood pellets You do need a gas torch to light them up - a standard BBQ ligher won't do. And i don't recommend adding any fire starter cube or fluid as it might add foul smells. Succesfully smoked a bunch of cheese in my grill Tube in the bottom, a deep try full of ice over the Smoking Stone and cheese on top. Left the middle ring out so i could add more ice during smoking. Here in Texas you need the ice so the chees won't melt (too much).

I got four hours of smoke time out of a full load. The average temp on the meat (to the side of the smoker) was 150° which was a little low to my liking. Next time I'll try placing the smoker on the burner below the grill but still offset so the meat doesnt drip on the burner. It definitely does a great job of letting the pellets smoke. And this is more convenient than setting up my large bbq smoker. The only downfall I see is that now when I grill I might have a smoke flavor when I dont really want one.

Worked well on my grill when I cooked bone in chicken thighs. Gave a light smoke taste to the chicken. Tough to get a true smoked flavor on a gas grill. Smoke is expelled quickly though side and back openings even with the lid closed. But it did add some smoke flavor. Also, tough to keep gas grills at smoke temperature. I may invest in a true smoker.

This tube puts out a lot of smoke so probably will have uses beyond cold smoking cheeses, which is what I purchased it for. I've completed some experiments and by itself in my Masterbuilt smoker it gets too hot to cold smoke cheese. Not terribly surprising so you will need to add a refrigerant of some type ( I used ice). The smoke from a whole tube lasts approximately 5 hours which is typically way longer than I want to smoke cheeses. Unfortunately there is no really good way to adjust the length of time that smoke is generated and get the pellets lit. So I modified the tube and build a platform that I could raise or lower to get a shorter time of smoke for my cheese smoking. It would be a great feature if it could be added to future versions of this device.

I purchased this just last week. I used it over the weekend on a whole chicken on the Traeger Pellet Smoker. It was very easy to use, all I did to clean it was shake the ashes out. I set it directly on the grill itself, it smoked for at least 4 hours and could definitely taste the difference. I filled it about 90% full and started it with a blow torch. I would recommend this product!

I like my smoked meats to be very smokey and the only way to do that in my Traeger is to supplement with a smoke tube. Its well constructed and even comes with a storage bag. Comes with instructions to break it in and a full tube of pellets lasted me 3 hours of smoke time. It does require a bernzomatic or similar burner to ignite. You don't need to fill up the tube all the way to light. I can fill it half way for shorter smokes, like for burgers, and still works great. Just need to make sure you can stick your bernzomatic far enough down the half filled smoke tube to light the pellets. Highly recommend.

After several weeks of using this smoker tube in my Pit Boss 600 I really like it and am glad I purchased this one. In the beginning I was experimenting with using both wood chips and wood pellets. The issue is I would only get about 3 hours of good smoke before I ran out of wood product. I then went to ALL wood pellets and I now get about 4 to 4-1/2 hours of good smoke. If you are looking for a smoke tube I would recommend checking this one out. Happy smoking!!

works well smoking in my gas grill. If you want real good smokey flavor then turn on 1 burner and put it on the lowest possible setting and don't let you grill get over 200* F and light your pellets then throw some thick cut bacon and a couple burgers on for at least 1 hour in the smoke and longer is better cause you cant smoke anything fast if you want flavor but you will end up with the best burgers in town. I just got it so I haven tried anything but burgers and bacon yet but I'm dreaming of a pork loin right now and I'm sure it will be great.
This is probably the best accessory that I could buy for my grill.

You can’t go wrong with this smoke box. I have a Traeger pellet smoker and this produces much more smoke, and for only 14$?! I have already referred this to family and friends. I was very impressed with how easy it was to do, and how long it smoked for. I filled the tube 2-3 inches shy from the top, and I had consist smoke for 4 hours! I think it would have Made it closer to 5 hours if I wouldn’t have left the flame burning at the beginning for as long as I did. I did a lot of research on smoke boxes to bring camping with me this summer, and this had the best reviews and customer videos. Just buy this. Seriously!

I use this Smoke Tube in my upright smoker, without using the electric heating element, for cold smoking cheese. I use it in my electric pellet smoker to add extra smoke. It will give 3+ hours of constant smoke without adding significant heat to the smoker. The only negative is lighting the pellets. Admittedly it is cold outside, usually about freezing, but I've needed a propane torch to reliably light this. Overall it is worth the slight inconvenience to have added smoke for such a small price. I do recommend this to anyone interested and I have recommended it to friends.

I just used my Carpathen Pellet Smoker Tube 12" for the first time to cold smoke 10 pounds of cured pork belly. This worked GREAT!! I have a Weber Smokey Mountain Smoker, but it is too efficient to allow me to cold smoke. The Carpathen worked like a Charm!! If you own a WSM and want to cold smoke, this is the way to go! Plus, I have never smoked fish in my WSM (fish tends to carry over to the meat) so now I can smoke fish on my grill
