I need this clamp to span a gap for the gasket and trim on the edge of the cabinet of 1 1/4 will the "U" bolt adjust long enough to mount the latch.

What material is the orange substance on the handle, rubber or a silicone? Based on what I have, I need to reverse this and the handle will get warm

Answer: This material is rubber and will probably melt.

Can it span three inches? I have a smoker that has a seal that is two inches and this would need to be on both sides of it with some lee way.

Answer: It won't span that far. I weld each piece on. You may be able to bolt them closer and work.

Latches look great, too bad they came without any mounting hardware.

I used these to help seal the cook chamber and the firebox on my Oklahoma Joe's Bandera Smoker. Using latches as a modification is recommended with this smoker, and these did the job well. Make sure you test fit the latches to make sure all your doors open without hitting these. It goes without saying, but if these are used on the firebox, they are going to get hot. The red rubber on the handle of these does not change that, so use gloves. When used with Lavalock seals, these latches have worked great at keeping heat and smoke in, and making the smoker more efficient. A must have on the Bandera or any other smoker that doesn't seal great from the factory.
