Answer: For best results, we recommend patting the meat dry after it has soaked in the marinade. This will help in preventing the liquid from dripping into the motor. It will also help reduce the dry time. The mesh screens are meant to prevent small pieces of food from falling into the base, such as dried onion. Answer: Well they will some....but they have holes in them so the air can flow freely. I find that they do a great job keeping things from sticking and they catch a lot of the grease. Not all of it, mind you, but it makes It better. ...I find clean up easier.
Answer: I don't make jerky, but dehydrate rather liquid fruit mixes, however not on the mesh trays; I use the fruit leather tray inserts, they are solid and easy to clean up! Nothing is stuck on, once dry or mostly dry it easily peals off; If you want to get the mesh I'd cut parchment paper to fit and dry on that.

Answer: I did waxed paper while I waited for my tray covers. But in my opinion, it is worth the money. The paper is way flimsy and stuff sticks to it. And the air circulates better through the trays for a more even result.
Answer: Def worth the extra $$. Wax paper could poss be used in a pinch, but would then need to be thrown out. Mesh screens can be used for many, many repeat applications. I've used mine every other day now for several weeks, ever since I recd them in the mail, & are still good as new.
Answer: The wax paper is going to restrict the air flow so it might not get consistent airflow on the bottom of what ever you are drying out.

The temperature does not get above 165 degrees F (73.8 degrees C). The dehydrator dries out food over a long time (hours) at low temperatures. Chia pizza base recipes usually call for 350-400 degrees F (177-204 degrees C).

Answer: No it doesn’t. It’s just plastic. I’ve found, and depends what fruit you’re working with, if you freeze after dehydration. It will help taking the fruit off. Cleanup is easier. I use mine all the time.

Answer: I am only selling the mesh trays for the presto dehydrator but my personal opinion is that this dehydrator will not be too good for meat if it does not have a fan. I used one of the heat only (no fan) dehydrators years ago and things tended to go bad before they dried out. You might be able to dry out meat scraps for your dog using a low heat oven.
Answer: Yes this is perfect for chicken jerky for dogs that is why I bought the dehydrator! My dogs love the chicken and when I take the dehydrator out they know I'm making them treats!!
Answer: Yes I absolutely love it and it cannot be any easier to use. Just cut in strips and you can dehydrate anything for your dog. I bought it for the same purpose and they love it. Takes about 8 hours and then bake at 275 for ten minutes and it will make sure there is no bacteria. I love it ! It's great for so many things and my dogs love the treats and the recipes u can do are endless! Just pick your baby's favorites.

I clearly misunderstood what a food dehydrator was for. Although this machine works just the way it's supposed to, it is gigantic, emits a lot of heat, and doesn't produce the dried food I expected. Drying kale worked well. Fruit leather was edible. Nothing else turned out as expected - carrots became pebbles; bananas became icky brown leathery bits; apricots became like leather upholstery. Be prepared for a lot of prep work for marginal returns.

Should have gotten one where you can set the temperature, BUT put a thermometer in it while running and it is a consistent 150 degrees, so it works for what we use it for and we love it.

Had a 'vintage' Harvest Maid dehydrator and it works fine. It is smaller than the original, but definitely acceptable. They are a little warped, but I don't see how that will interfere with drying.

Great for "small" foods to keep from falling through, but I used first as a non-stick layer when I dehydrated some Italian sausage jerky. I've found that using these for just about everything (except sauces or other liquids that need a fruit-roll sheet of course) because they are easy to clean.

I have dried many different kinds of fruit with this and it works very well. It does not have a temperature control or an on/off switch but I just check the items and unplug it when they are done. Depending on the humidity, the thickness of the items and moisture content it will take anywhere from four hours to twelve hours. My favorite is dried mango, it is delicious and does not have the sugar content of purchased ones. I love it.

Seems okay. It takes longer than I would have thought and the heat distribution is okay but not excellent. The digital timer and temperature control are useful. I am not too concerned with the minor drawbacks since I am using this to dry brass shell casings.

I am happy that I finally broke down and purchased a food dehydrator. This is the first one I have owned and it works well. I have been able to efficiently dry herbs and make fruit leather. I will try jerky when my husband gets home from hunt camp. I chose a unit with a timer and digital temperature control so I just set it up and let it work overnight or when I am at work. As other reviewers noted: the cord is short and it is a little noisy, so I move the table closer to the outlet and let in run in a room away from where we are.

This item does what's it's supposed to do, that is filter large pieces of dried material from falling to the bottom and keep dehydrated food from sticking to the regular tray. It is sized correctly. It does have a bit of a curl to it that can be problematic.
This liner package has two liners and is $20. To line all 4 trays of the dehydrator you would effectively double the price of the dehydrator!

I was a little disappointed because when I receive my dehydrator trays because they were kind of warped, when I try to dehydrate my fruit Roll-Up it does not come out even because one side is tilted up higher I tried to make them even but it move to one side which makes it hard for it to dry and so it comes out unevenly and all of the trays was like that

I thought these inserts would work well for me when using them to dehydrate tomatoes but I was wrong with that assumption.
First of all, they significantly increased the overall drying time of the fruit and gave an uneven constancy to the end product.
Secondly they are impossible to clean back to original condition. The tomatoes stained them badly and I cannot get the odor removed from them.
I ended up drying the fruit on the original racks that came with the unit which, in hindsight, worked out very well.

These inserts were well made and would likely last a life time. Will not fit in Oster dehydrator. Due to the size of the mesh well dehydrated small berries would likely fall through.

I have used these Nonstick Mesh Screens several times while dehydrating. In fact, I have just used them this past weekend when I purchased six pounds of peeled garlic at Costco. After cleaning each pod and then slicing them in my Kitchen Aid slicer, I spread out the slices on these mesh screens and dehydrated it for 23 hours. I used my large turkey roaster as the base to collect the dried garlic as I removed the screen from the shelf, bent the screen, and gleefully watched as the dried garlic slid off the screen. To clean my screens and my shelves I fill my kitchen sink with hot soapy dishwater with a couple of tablespoons of bleach which whitens and helps kill any bacteria that may be the result of me using them.

I purchased two of these 2 -pack screens as there are only four trays to my Presto Dehydro unit. Worked great, fit exactly, and are a nice sturdy plastic with reinforced edges. I like that they are easy to pick up with the finger slots on opposite sides when loading/unloading full trays. I didn't notice any more length of time needed to dry my items using the screens, as there is only one pre-set 'high' setting for the heat. Herb flowers and leaves dry really fast (without falling through!) with these screens and food dries fast as well, depending on the thickness of the item. I keep these on my trays for everything that I dry. Easy to wash up by hand. Recommended.

The nonstick mesh screens are lightweight, washable, and the only way you can dry small fruit/veg/food in the Presto dehydrator. Small fruits or foods in small bits (smaller than, say, 1/2" before dehydration) have a knack for falling between the coarse plastic ribs of the trays that come with the dehydrator. With foods that tend to become sticky, these nonstick screens save you a bunch of time. Rather than scraping the food off the trays, pop the food on one of these nonstick screens and when it's dehydrated, you can easily move the food. The directions suggest for really sticky foods that you flex the screen to loosen - this works quite well.
Even though they are nonstick, you may need to brush stickier bits of residue from the mesh holes when doing cleanup. A quick brush and a pop into the dishwasher (I don't use the heat dry feature on my dishwasher but presume that these screens might be fine, given that the dehydrator itself gets to around 160ºF when it's working.)
