Would this work on regular plastic drinking straws?

Answer: I'm not sure what it is you're trying to do by heat-sealing straws, but I'm sure hard (or at least semi-hard) plastic straws wouldn't seal - but melt - at a higher temp than what it takes for Mylar to heat-seal. I wouldn't risk the possible damage to my heat sealer.

Answer: I don't think so because plastic melts and the sealer is hot! But you would have to try it, because, I don't want to ruin my sealer.

What is the length of the sealing surface?

Answer: Approximately 6-8" I can stretch my hand from thumb to pinky down the crimper . It seals any size bag as you just crimp, release, move, crimp, and release.

Answer: The sealing surface is exactly 6 inches (I have a tape measure :)

Does this come with a foot pedal?

Answer: No

I was told the type of mylar bag I have needs a 350 degree heat. Is this reaching that heat?

Answer: Works very well on the dozen bags I used it on. I am sealing 6 gal mylar bags and it makes quick of it.

Will it seal 7ml mylar?

Answer: Yes, it will seal 7 mm mylar. For most sizes it will take more than one pass because this sealer is narrow. This means it's fine for short term storage, but you have to be very careful about using it for long term storage because your chance of getting a good seal is only about 80%.

Answer: I have no idea. Hot enough to make a good seal. I have only used on high because it takes longer to seal on the low setting.

how do you know what heat setting to use? I am new at this, I have ordered 3.? mil bags and 5.? mil bags

Answer: I bought two different thicknesses of bags (don't know the mil as the bags don't state and I ordered so long ago I can't find them on previous years' orders). I started out with LO heat setting. That was sufficient to seal the Mylar bags. Suggest you start with LO and if cannot achieve complete seal with LO, then switch to HI. It won't hurt to re-seal the bags, just start your next crimp below your first attempt. You can cut off the excess.

Answer: hottest setting works for us and crimp for 3 to 4 seconds after you allow to get hot. After a few bags you need to pause to let element retain proper heat.

Answer: there is no setting, just takes a few seconds. it's very hot. It's a trial and error thing, not hard. You will see instantly. Don't stress, just try it, and have fun with it.

What about replacemet parts?

Answer: The seal is accomplished through heat which fuses the Mylar together. There is no blade attachment.

Answer: No zig zag pattern, just a seal. I suppose you could trim it with a pair of pinking shears!

Will thus seal in liquids without leaking?

Answer: Only used to seal coffee bags. Not sure about liquids.

Answer: Short answer yes it should. This is a hot seal that's melting the material together as you slide it through. You always have to worry about the bag being punctured unless it's made of something that's puncture resistant.

I plan to seal chocolate bars. Will the sealer melt the chocolate?

Answer: If you have chocolate bars in the bag and are just sealing the edge closed, it should not melt your chocolate. This just seals the edges and does not heat up the bags.

Answer: If the sealing is done really close to the chocolate it will. It gets very hot. Plastic melts at a lot higher temp than chocolate. But if the chocolate was a couple inches away it should be fine. The sealing action can be very fast.

Answer: Depends how close the seal is to the chocolate, If anything closer than 1/2" I would say there is a possibility

Answer: No, but depending on where you store them, and how long, the candy will be no good. Chocolate does not stand the test of time.

Can I use this to drain the oil from my car?

Answer: This is a heat sealer. It does not provide a container for the oil or anything else on it's own. Trying to seal oil could also be pretty messy since the bags don't particularly behave on their own and holding it with that weight may not be practical Also depending on the oil and if there are temperature variances this could also be potentially dangerous to do at home. Mylar bags seal normally at temperatures well over 300F and flash point for motor oil starts at 400F, and these sealers may have higher tolerances than you might assume.

Answer: No it's NOT 230V European Standard. Voltage is 120 Volt as exists in the USA. This is an extraordinarily effective machine and well worth the money... if only the voltage were correct!

Answer: I don’t know however I was using it in America without an adapter. I can tell you this however, it fell apart the first day I used it! The spring fell out which keeps it from opening automatically once you stop gripping it closed. It’s still usable but not as easy.

Answer: i don't think it will work well. bubble wrap is plastic and mylar is more like a light metal and the sealer is very hot. so, it's up to you. think on it.

Answer: It will seal Mylar (which looks like aluminum) but it does not melt aluminum. This works by melting the Mylar to create an airtight seal. Mylar is very thin and melts. Aluminum is not the same material.

Answer: I think you need to explain kraft bags because a search returns only paper bags. This sealer works by melting the mylar. It's quite hot so the material must be thick enough not to melt. It's also not very wide, so multiple passes are needed to seal all but the smallest bags.

Answer: If the Kraft bag is made out of Mylar, then yes. It seals by melting the Mylar to the Mylar.

Answer: If the bags are a Mylar type it would. Depending on the width, you may have to melt them in sections. Make sure you place a few oxygen absorbents in the bag before you seal it.

Answer: I wouldn't risk it. Don't want cellophane stuck to my sealer. It's basically a fancy iron.

Answer: I've sealed up to 7mm, so it should do 10mm. However, if your bag is wide, you'll need to reposition several times. With practice, you can get most of them to seal completely.

Answer: I have only used mine on Mylar bags and it works very well. I do not know how it would work on plastic, but it is a very hot crimping iron and may melt plastic.

Answer: Poly is hard to seal with any sealer. It just takes some practice and you will have more waste then if using Cellophane or Mylar.

I am considering purchasing this sealer for long term food storage and was wondering if it will seal a larger mylar bag like gallon size?

Answer: Yes this is the perfect hand sealer for mylar bags. The reason is because it's constant heat on both sides. This means you can clamp the sealer down for as long as necessary to fully seal through the foil lining of a mylar bag. Other sealers are just impulse sealers that quickly apply a seal which doesn't only always properly burn through thicker mylar bags. The seal is only 6" long so you just have to seal twice across the top of a 1 gallon bag, overlapping the previous seal by a 1/2". There are larger constant heat sealers but they tend to be too heavy to work with.

Answer: I use it for very large bags for 5-6 gallons, and have to overlap 2-3 times to do that. I did do a couple of gallon bags, and needed to overlap once (2 seals)

Answer: Yes. It's a clamp and release technique. About two clamps and releases to do a gallon bag. I've had success using it on my large bags.

Answer: Not the one I got. I got a small one. It does seal a big bag but you have to do two sealing to get there. Sometimes it doesn't seal right. My opinion for what it's worth, spend extra and get a big one. That way you can do most anything with it. Just my opinion.

Answer: The only thing I have ever used it on his mylar bags. It works well for Mylar.

Answer: We always used it to reseal the poly bags containing our unused oxygen absorbers. You must either use low setting or if you've used the high setting, turn it off and wait a bit to cool. Otherwise it will shrivel up the bag rather than seal. even the Mylar bags of different thicknesses/quality behave similarly. The thicker sturdier bags will take higher heat for longer periods of time. It usually takes a couple tries to get a good feel for what it takes on each bag.

Answer: there is no vacuum component. the spring broke the first day I used it and I had to manually open it after that.

Unit warms up quickly. I went a little further and picked up a electric vacuum pump from HF. I put my product in, then seal most all the way to the end. I also picked up a small aluminum blow gun from HF also. I insert this into the bag, then draw out atmosphere. I pull the aluminum tube to near the end, and seal the bag. I wouldn't do this on chips or something, as it would probably crush them all. It does take all the air out of oatmeal, dried fruit, jerky, as well as protecting flour, sugar, and all sorts of critters from wanting my stash!
If you would like a few picks, please ask.
I wish the unit would have come with a parts order list to allow me to have a spare set of sealer ends on hand.

If you have ever tried to use a seal a meal or iron to seal thick mylar bags you'll know that they seldom ever seal well. This sealer seals them with a 1/4 inch wide seam that insures that the bag is completely sealed. Using this with oxygen absorbers really well help you keep your products safe and sound for a long duration.

If you are sealing a wider bag, no problem you can do it in as many 6" sections as you want. When you get to the last one remove as much air as you can and then seal it and you are good to go.

Absolutely won't find a better solution on the market for this price.
