Questions about Danielson Crab Net Kit

Anyone try this for lobsters?

Answer: Yes they are good for crabs only

Is it leagle in calif?

Answer: use in California is is leagle

Does the retrieval line sink or float?

Answer: i dont use the light line that comes with the ring, it's too short and i'm not confident in its strength. i bought my own nylon cord 150 ft to be sure it works

What is the diameter

Answer: I believe its 24 inch ....

What is the diameter of the net?

Answer: I don't know the exact diameter but it's the standard size you see at Dick's or Walmart. Probably 4 ft across. You might want to consider buying a longer rope though if you are crabbing for dungness. This one worked for me but I couldn't throw it very far off the dock.

Answer: The top ring is 30" across. Legal in the state of MD for crabbing.

What material is the netting made of?

Answer: Strong nylon or something. It should last

Great value for the money! I purchased this net to catch rock crabs in Bodega Bay, a first time crab trip for me. Since I was also clamming and fishing, I wanted to start with a single net to see how it went.

The kit comes with everything you need: The pull line, the net, a floatie, a bait pin and a gauge to measure your crabs. I decided against the use of the bait pin and instead zip-tied a bait cage to the bottom hoop. http://amzn.to/2uUuD1f. This worked well and prevented the crabs from eating all of the bait.

In just a few hours I was able to catch 16 keeper rock crabs. A great success for a first trip, and I am purchasing two more for future trips!

As I pulled into my driveway, it looked like a homeless person had set up camp at my front door. There was a huge piece of cardboard, about 8'X4', on my sidewalk. It was bent in half, and looked like some sort of hastily fabricated lean to shelter. Looked almost like someone folded a piece of plywood. Upon closer inspection, there was a shipping label with my name & address. Hmmm.....this could not be good.

This could be okay, depending on where you go. This is certainly not a heavy duty kit. The net itself is made of very lightweight nylon type cordage. Nothing that will stand up to rugged use in rough waters, with questionable debris at the bottom. The included line is a joke. Very thin, and questionable as to how strong it is or isn't. I would replace it immediately with something thicker and stronger. Depending on where you go, the line may not even reach the bottom. That bent piece of metal meant for attaching bait with is useless. A piece of chicken on a coat hanger would be fine, and will work better. Best option is to get a bait cage. The piece of plastic for measuring your catch with is crucial. In some jurisdictions, you must have one with you.

My crabbing is along the Pacific Ocean. Rough waves which wash up 10+ feet over the pier. This net is better used in calm waters, without sea lions at the ready who will go after your bait and tear up your net.

The idea is simple. Drop your bait in the center, pull up the net, and everything on the bottom which came to feed on your bait will be caught in the net. Depending on where you go, you could pull up quite a lot of crab.

I had to make a trip to my local brick & mortar to replace the damaged item. That is where I found this exact item. And that is where I noticed that it was very poorly constructed. The salesman even warned me against buying it. Most of the units sold, eventually get returned. Or the customer comes back to buy something better, complaining about how the line gave, or the net weave broke apart. And the truth is, with a side by side comparison, it was easy to see how other crab nets were simply constructed with better material.

My kit was sandwiched with two pieces of cardboard. The warehouse worker didn't even bother to tape around all the edges. The kit disappeared in transit.....fell out. The rings were bent. How does that happen?

Will be using this net for pier fishing. Kinda expensive, net was damaged In several places & tied back together. Mice net overall but wish this came with a rope.

Viper Green : This is not the product described in the One and Two Star reviews.

The only two complaints i have about the product are the thickness of the netting and the line to be used to release and pull up the ring. I wish that the netting was twice as thick, but I believe being plastic coated will enable it to stand up to the wear and tear of crabbing. I did note that the netting was the same size weave in all parts of the netting. However, the "rope" used to drop and lift the believe that ring is so flimsy that I will get a replacement before using the ring this weekend. Overall, I think this is a quality product.

Great crabbing net even in the rough water of San Francisco Bay. The net comes with a bait pin and a ruler to measure your clams/crabs. The down side to this net is that the netting on the bottom is a bit wide, some crabs have been able to slip through. I do advise you to take a rather larger bait box or snare box if you are using this net. Overall it is very sturdy and stink to the bottom from my experience. It is well worth the price.

Net looks great. The rope is a bit small, about 1/8'' in diameter, but it looks like it will a great net for spillway or bridge fishing.
