If you need to replace your current heating element in your smoker, you should do so with the exact same size and model that is current installed. Answer: Mine is top loader, overall element length 8 3/4", element legs 5"

Answer: Which model of Smoker do you have. I had the Little Chief Smoker, and it used the short leg element.

Answer: The best way is to remove the old one and look at it.

Answer: no it will mess with the resistance of the element also the teflon coding will break

Shorted out immediately. Bought this new element, and the same thing happened...
So, I cut my little chief apart, and made it a wood smoker with a bottom charcoal smoker tank made from a small air compressor tank - so it wasn't a total waste...
