Questions about Traeger TFT18PLDO Scout Wood Smoker Grill, One Color
Q:
What’s the largest piece of meat this can hold? How many burgers can also fit at one time? Thanks
Answer: We cooked a whole pork tenderloin on it, first cut it half. We have not cooked burgers yet but we cooked a large package of chicken legs. We actually found out that the SCOUT has been recalled. The information about cooking is on a Traeger RANGER which is the same size as the SCOUT. We love it! We also have a larger Traeger grill! We bought the smaller grill to take with us camping! We will be smoking thick cut bacon by WRIGHT'S this morning and later another batch of dry rubbed chicken and tomorrow home made pizza!!!!
Answer: 4 steaks or 6 burgers.
Answer: You can cook a 5pound brisket
Q:
Does this require 110 electric power?
Answer: Yes but you can buy their inverter and run off a 12v car battery ????
Answer: Yes
Q:
Some of these models have been recalled as a fire hazard. Is this the new improved grill?
Answer: When I contacted Traeger directly they assured me that all sales online were updated models.
Q:
Does this come with the inverter and cover?
Answer: It doesn't come with inverter or cover.
Answer: I just bought one at a local Costco store in MD where they did include an inverter and cover.
Q:
I got one but can't get the auger to move? Any advise?
Answer: Try turn on the unit then unplug it . Try to get the unit to reset
Q:
I would like to know what is the return policy on this traeger smoker? I cannot find a return policy listed.
Answer: Click on the description. If it doesn't say "free returns" on the Amazon page then... it's not free returns. Message the seller and sometimes they will take a return. I have had to pay a restocking fee multiple times.
Q:
can this be used outside on a covered porch?
Answer: Yes it can. Make sure it is protected from the elements and that use use a ground fault interrupter circuit
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes!
Q:
I have a portable country smoker that has a sliding cover over the burner so i can sear meat. dose this unit have it , thanks?
Answer: There is a large drip pan the covers the burner and directs juices out the back into a drip bucket
Answer: No . There no direct flame on this unit.
Answer: No it doesn't but if you remove the grill grate you could sear directly on the drip tray possibly.
Answer: No, it does not. Hope this helps you.
Q:
how much pellets can you load?
Answer: You can load about 1/4 of a bag in the hopper.
Answer: About 1/4 of the bag.cook for three hours and still had a lot left in the hopper.
Q:
By what means are the pellets lit?
Answer: You pour the pellets into the hopper. There is an internal auger that pushes the pellets into the firepot. The firepot heats up the pellets and gives the grill the heat and the smoke from your preferred pellets.
Answer: The auger feeds pellets into a fire pod. The pellets build until they hit what is similar to a spark plug. Once the temp rises, the spark plug stops. That's why the fire pod build up needs to be cleaned out from time to time because it will block the spark plug.
Answer: The pellets are augured into the firebox where they contact an electric resistance heating element to originate combustion. From then on the burning is self sustaining
Answer: Sir I actually don’t know I’m a woman all I know is within 30 seconds it’s smokin
Q:
What are the dimensions of the cooking surface
Answer: 176 square inches. I cooked 3 legit ribeyes on my last trip with absolutely no issues.
Q:
Does it come in amazon packaging?
Answer: Mine did. A box within a box.
Q:
How many watts does it require?
Answer: No, no, no... Not even close to 1500 watts. It takes about 300 watts for the first couple minutes, to light it. Then once lit it only takes 30-40 watts to run the fan and auger.
Answer: 1500watts
Answer: Showing 1-1 of 1 answers
Answer: Rated power is 250 watts. But don’t know how much it pulls.
Q:
What’s the pellet capacity for the grill?
Answer: The Ranger has a large capacity hopper the Scout does not. The Ranger also comes with a removable cast iron griddle!
Q:
does anyone have a recommendation for a table to place the grill on?
Answer: roller top portable table. i use one will hold 50 lbs
Answer: I have a cheap table from Walmart because I have small balcony. Hold great

Answer: A portable Traeger is the way to go . Love mine !

Answer: I use a regular folding table with a fire pit mat under it and it works great ????
Q:
Can you use this on a Lifetime table?
Answer: Yes, you can use it on that table. I use it all the time.
Q:
What's the available height in this smoker? Can we fit a pork butt? a whole chicken? How about a turkey?
Answer: We have smoked a whole pork butt. It does completely fill it up. We have not done a Chicken or Turkey. Probably could depending on the size of them
Q:
What does the inside look? like, thanks.
Answer: Has a area for wood pellets on 1/3 of the unit and 2/3 for the grilling area and a steel plate between the flame area and cooking plate
Q:
does the scout come with gas supply line ?
Answer: No gas in a traeger. They are wood pellet smokers. The scout has a built in hopper the feeds pellets as needed to maintain the desired temp. It does need to be plugged in though. If dry camping, a generator is needed. Great smoker though.
Answer: No...its electric and auger feeds pellets.
Answer: No, power
Answer: No electric only
Q:
How do I get more smoke
Answer: My stove was defective, they wouldnt replace it so I returned it
Q:
How can I be sure your seller has improved models of Scout as There is a recall in this grill.
Answer: I had the same concern but after a ton of reading and speaking to personal friends that also have them I purchased one. I have had zero issues other than it runs a bit hot, 250 does not exist. No big deal for me. Most everything I cook camping is high or low. I do clean it frequently and stage it away from my trailer when cooking though.
Q:
Can this be mounted on a RV bumper mount?
Answer: I assume so. You would probably have to create a custom mount for it
Q:
Can i smoke cheese on this?
Answer: We have not tried smoking cheese yet, but plan on trying!
Q:
Do you have to use Traeger pellets with this or will others work too?
Answer: Any wood pellets will work
Answer: Others work
Q:
How hot does the grill get in Fahrenheit?
Answer: 450F - I found it depends a little on the type of pellets used
Q:
I have a couple of questions: Can you cook precooked foods such as brats on this? Is there a steep learning curve on this over a charcoal grill?
Answer: Yes, anything you cook on a regular grill, or oven actually, you can make on this. I make everything from hotdogs/brats to casseroles, meatloaf, meats or veggies! Even pizza. I use the Scout for camping and have a bigger Traeger at home. I would recommend this to anybody! Very easy to use.
Answer: I cook everything in the Traeger, including Brats. It’s almost like cooking in an oven, but you get the smoked flavor and no flare ups. Just set the temperature so it preheats and put your food into the Traeger
Answer: Yes, you can warm up precooked foods on this. There is very little learning curve and there is quite a bit of support on the Traeger website
Q:
How many watts does it require?
Answer: No, no, no... Not even close to 1500 watts. It takes about 300 watts for the first couple minutes, to light it. Then once lit it only takes 30-40 watts to run the fan and auger.
Answer: 1500watts

Product reviews of Traeger TFT18PLDO Scout Wood Smoker Grill, One Color
rita : Harder Than I expected
Everyone I know loves their Traeger. To me it is harder to figure out the technique. I have thrown away meat equivalent to at least half the price that I paid for the smoker. Steaks, roasts, whole chickens.
But everyone says it just takes getting used to. We will see.
Pat Schreiber : Great smoker and grill
This is a great grill and smoker for camping or living in a small apartment. Very flexible from smoking, grilling, meats and vegetables. I have made smoked pork shoulder, grilled vegetable for salsas and salads. A great purchase.
Kyle : Temp
Huge temp variations. Latches on front of unit do not seal the unit very well
Tom C. : Great for camping
The scout exceeded my expectations. Grill a rack of baby back ribs at elevation and it worked great. Temperature was on point. Assembly was really easy. Would definitely recommend this
Fran Stenbak : Dads smoker
Used it to take along in our camper, and it works great!
Pattsi Lueg : RV grill
Great little grill for my RV
h a geisendorfer : my son-in-law loves it
my son-in-law loves it. Uses it in his apartment patio where any other type of grill is not allowed
Greg B. : Temperature Issues
Bought this for its small size to use with our RV. As you can see in the picture, the temperature control didn’t function properly. (Yes I followed startup and shutdown instructions. Yes, I tried adjusting the P-Setting). Returned this through Amazon for a replacement unit, which seems to be functioning better, at least through the first use. I had to pay return shipping for the malfunctioning unit, which cost me $85. Pretty upset by that. The replacement unit came with a grate that had several gouges all the way through the porcelain. So I kept the grate from the first unit, although I had to In pack and repack it agaIn to make that happen. Really wondering about Traeger quality at this point.
Chris : Unless you're cooking burgers, don't bother.
I've had better results from the $25 Wal-Mart propane grill, at least I can halfway regulate the temperature.
I bought this and a bunch of meat to go with it, but pretty much ruined everything that's gone in it. I've used it a total of about 12 hours so far and seen the temperature dip under 225 for about a 2 minutes total to get some decent smoking. Other than that, it runs at 265+ no matter what it's set on and creeps in to 400.
JANIS S. : Husband loves it.
Husband and brother love it.
Msmjfig : Revised review
Revised review ...I contacted Traeger customer service 1yr after I purchased my scout. They sent out replacement part to me free of charge. Now my grill works as expected. All of the parts that I had to replace were plug and play. Traeger customer service went above and beyond to get my problem fixed.
Old review...I have another Traeger grill that I use at home so I was really excited when I was able to purchase the Scout. I wanted it for camping in the RV. I didn't use it for about 2 months after I purchased it. When I finally went camping and used my Scout I was very disappointed, no matter what temperature I set the grill to I was not able to regulate the temperature. It's either off or 400 plus. I had such high hopes for my camping season and smoking somethings out on the road.

Amazon Customer : Junk
Should have listened to the reviews. It does not regulate heat. It just bbqs at 450 degrees. I have a regular size that’s works great. This is an inferior product and do not buy.
Murray Clamidot III : Waste of money.
As you can see in the photo I set my traeger scout to 250. Unfortunately it prefers bouncing between 150 and 480+ as seen in the picture. Ruined a full rack. What a waste of money.

Pat Schreiber : Great smoker and grill
This is a great grill and smoker for camping or living in a small apartment. Very flexible from smoking, grilling, meats and vegetables. I have made smoked pork shoulder, grilled vegetable for salsas and salads. A great purchase.
TJ : Very inaccurate, tends to overcook meat
I got this smoker to take when we go camping. Unfortunately I can't recommend this smoker for the following reasons.
1. The lowest temperature I can get out of it is about 220 degrees, and that's on the smoke setting which should be about 180 degrees. And that is with the feed adjustment fully set tot he coolest setting. Out of the box the temperature was usually over 350 degrees on smoke.
2. The temperature swings wildly high when set on smoke. It will never get down to 180 degrees, but will often swing up to 360 degrees for 30 minutes or more ruining the meat you're trying to slow smoke.
3. The cooking area is tiny.
4. It's very difficult to clean ash out of the bottom without using a vacuum cleaner.
5. The rubber feet on the bottom of the legs keep coming off.
All in all this is the worst smoker I've ever owned. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this smoker, it's just not well made.
brian schexnayder : treager problem you dont always get what you pay for
i bought a treager because it is supposed to be quality the first week i used it a fuse in control panel blew and now the burner element is out. i havent had 1 problem with another brand at the house.

Ryan F. : Great fast cooker
Cannot hold low temperatures to smoke.
Amazon Customer : No complaints
I have a Ranger and bought a Scout for my dad and another one for a buddy. They’ve both cooked with the Scout several times and love them. I actually like the Scout over the Ranger because it’s about 20 lbs lighter but gives you the same amount of cooking surface. It’s perfect for throwing in a compartment on the camper to take with you or cooking with an inverter on the tailgate.

Loves To Read : I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Traeger
I like the way it cooks food without flare-ups, and like the taste that the wood pellets impart on the food I'm cooking. It's portable so I use it at home, and can also take it with us camping. There is only one issue with the heat - it seems the longer the cooking time, the higher the heat gets - it's supposed to be self regulating within 25 degrees of the temp you set it, but it doesn't hold to that 25 degree range. It will vary 75 degrees too high or 25 too low so I have to watch it carefully. Don't know if this is a common problem or not. Overall though I am enjoying this Traeger and the food that I cook on it is delicious.
Kindle Customer : have problems with temperature control
I can't trust the unit to hold a steady temperature (I had it on 225 and an hour later I was over 350 I shut it down and stated over and it stayed within 20 to 30 degrees.
I use this to smoke a lot of rib's, brisket etc.
I have ruined about 30.00 of meat. What can I do to fix this.
Love the size, portability of it, we are full time RVers and often join large pot luck dinners. I no longer make the best ribs. Sad
