Questions about Traeger TFT18PLDO Scout Wood Smoker Grill, One Color
Q:
What’s the largest piece of meat this can hold? How many burgers can also fit at one time? Thanks
Answer: We cooked a whole pork tenderloin on it, first cut it half. We have not cooked burgers yet but we cooked a large package of chicken legs. We actually found out that the SCOUT has been recalled. The information about cooking is on a Traeger RANGER which is the same size as the SCOUT. We love it! We also have a larger Traeger grill! We bought the smaller grill to take with us camping! We will be smoking thick cut bacon by WRIGHT'S this morning and later another batch of dry rubbed chicken and tomorrow home made pizza!!!!
Answer: 4 steaks or 6 burgers.
Answer: You can cook a 5pound brisket

Answer: There is a large drip pan the covers the burner and directs juices out the back into a drip bucket
Answer: No . There no direct flame on this unit.
Answer: No it doesn't but if you remove the grill grate you could sear directly on the drip tray possibly.
Answer: No, it does not. Hope this helps you.
Q:
how much pellets can you load?
Answer: You can load about 1/4 of a bag in the hopper.
Answer: About 1/4 of the bag.cook for three hours and still had a lot left in the hopper.
Q:
By what means are the pellets lit?
Answer: You pour the pellets into the hopper. There is an internal auger that pushes the pellets into the firepot. The firepot heats up the pellets and gives the grill the heat and the smoke from your preferred pellets.
Answer: The auger feeds pellets into a fire pod. The pellets build until they hit what is similar to a spark plug. Once the temp rises, the spark plug stops. That's why the fire pod build up needs to be cleaned out from time to time because it will block the spark plug.
Answer: The pellets are augured into the firebox where they contact an electric resistance heating element to originate combustion. From then on the burning is self sustaining
Answer: Sir I actually don’t know I’m a woman all I know is within 30 seconds it’s smokin

Answer: No gas in a traeger. They are wood pellet smokers. The scout has a built in hopper the feeds pellets as needed to maintain the desired temp. It does need to be plugged in though. If dry camping, a generator is needed. Great smoker though.
Answer: No...its electric and auger feeds pellets.
Answer: No, power
Answer: No electric only
Q:
How do I get more smoke
Answer: My stove was defective, they wouldnt replace it so I returned it
Q:
How can I be sure your seller has improved models of Scout as There is a recall in this grill.
Answer: I had the same concern but after a ton of reading and speaking to personal friends that also have them I purchased one. I have had zero issues other than it runs a bit hot, 250 does not exist. No big deal for me. Most everything I cook camping is high or low. I do clean it frequently and stage it away from my trailer when cooking though.
Q:
Can this be mounted on a RV bumper mount?
Answer: I assume so. You would probably have to create a custom mount for it
Q:
Can i smoke cheese on this?
Answer: We have not tried smoking cheese yet, but plan on trying!
Q:
Do you have to use Traeger pellets with this or will others work too?
Answer: Any wood pellets will work
Answer: Others work
Q:
How hot does the grill get in Fahrenheit?
Answer: 450F - I found it depends a little on the type of pellets used
Q:
I have a couple of questions: Can you cook precooked foods such as brats on this? Is there a steep learning curve on this over a charcoal grill?
Answer: Yes, anything you cook on a regular grill, or oven actually, you can make on this. I make everything from hotdogs/brats to casseroles, meatloaf, meats or veggies! Even pizza. I use the Scout for camping and have a bigger Traeger at home. I would recommend this to anybody! Very easy to use.
Answer: I cook everything in the Traeger, including Brats. It’s almost like cooking in an oven, but you get the smoked flavor and no flare ups. Just set the temperature so it preheats and put your food into the Traeger
Answer: Yes, you can warm up precooked foods on this. There is very little learning curve and there is quite a bit of support on the Traeger website
Q:
How many watts does it require?
Answer: No, no, no... Not even close to 1500 watts. It takes about 300 watts for the first couple minutes, to light it. Then once lit it only takes 30-40 watts to run the fan and auger.

Product reviews of Traeger TFT18PLDO Scout Wood Smoker Grill, One Color
Robert B. Coco : Great grill/oven/smiker. This does it all!
Perfect for camping! Lights easy. have already made steaks, burgers, wings, smoked ribs, pizza, even lasagna. Love that if you want to bake something, it doesnt smoke it, no smokey flavor. You can add smoke flavor if you want by turning know to smoke.
Only thing I don't like is the pellets seem to get hung up on the sides and don't funnel down completely. If there is some trick to making this happen, please let me know. Also, a nice option would be a way to lock it to something so a $400 grill doesnt get stolen. Perhaps a ring welded to bade for a lock cable.
sherryl griffin : Now we’re Cooking!
Amazing how delicious and moist the meats/veggies are while smoking/cooking!! You would think it be too smoky but they’re perfectly tasteful!
brian schexnayder : treager problem you dont always get what you pay for
i bought a treager because it is supposed to be quality the first week i used it a fuse in control panel blew and now the burner element is out. i havent had 1 problem with another brand at the house.
Tammy Mazias : AWESOME PRODUCT
Often wonder what's so special about this way of cooking. Recently out in the rv. Noticed next camp over, family setting up 3 tragers , Well the smells sent me over and was totally into this, plus campers showed me all about this model called SCOUT. Received from prime and are testing all the meats we like and i am sold. Now we have our new one for r v ing.
D. Kuhlman : Too much of a PITA for a grill.
Purchased the Scout from a different retailer but cannot recommend. As many have stated this grill has wild temperature swings in excess of 80 to 100 degrees. Find myself constantly monitoring the grill while cooking to make certain the pellets continue to feed from the hopper. Pellets (Treager brand) tended to “tunnel “ and stop feeding causing the heat to basically cool down below safe temperatures for the food. This is my first pellet grill that we purchased for our RV camping and probably my last. Will stick with my mini Big Green Egg. Much simpler to use and maintain and IMHO has better smoke flavor.
stockman belle : Not good.. see second reveiw...junk
So far doesn't work worth a tinkers dam. First night..suckage.
Used it twice...the thermostat died. Traeger sent us a new one, but you have to take the whole unit apart to replace it. This IS a warrenty???? DO NOT BUY THIS....JUNK.
Loves To Read : I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Traeger
I like the way it cooks food without flare-ups, and like the taste that the wood pellets impart on the food I'm cooking. It's portable so I use it at home, and can also take it with us camping. There is only one issue with the heat - it seems the longer the cooking time, the higher the heat gets - it's supposed to be self regulating within 25 degrees of the temp you set it, but it doesn't hold to that 25 degree range. It will vary 75 degrees too high or 25 too low so I have to watch it carefully. Don't know if this is a common problem or not. Overall though I am enjoying this Traeger and the food that I cook on it is delicious.
Amazon Customer : Temperature problems.
Simply put it is a mediocre as a grill, but bad as a smoker. Temperature control isn't really a option, and it's all over the place. Usually runs more than 100 degrees hotter than the setting. There isn't an easy was to manage or fix it. Maybe this size is plagued with the issues, but I wish I didn't get this model.
Some reviewers might have better luck, but despite proper instructions and technic, this doesn't perform as advertised or hoped.
Kyle : Temp
Huge temp variations. Latches on front of unit do not seal the unit very well
Murray Clamidot III : Waste of money.
As you can see in the photo I set my traeger scout to 250. Unfortunately it prefers bouncing between 150 and 480+ as seen in the picture. Ruined a full rack. What a waste of money.
brian schexnayder : treager problem you dont always get what you pay for

Lucas Harp : Great product!!!
Awesome grill!!! So easy to use.
miles king : Shipping was a nightmare!
Product works well but shipping was a nightmare.
Joyce Johnson : It is a very convenient size
Temperature control takes some learning then works well. Very easy to assemble and easy to use.
Masterscross : Great Grill
Great Grill! Easy to use!
Kyle : Temp
Huge temp variations. Latches on front of unit do not seal the unit very well
Chris Chandler : Runs Hot. Not worth it.
I really wanted to like this. I don't need a full-sized smoker and really don't want to spend 600+ on the larger Traegers. But this thing is more frustration than it's worth.
When I first received it and turned it on, the temperature control was terrible. Set at 180, it was roaring up to 500+ and staying there. I called Traeger and they sent a new temperature probe. After that took three weeks to arrive, I was past the return window in Amazon. I wish I'd just returned it.
So I decided to try and figure it out so I could at least get some use out of it, but I just can't say it's worth it. The controller allows wild 250+ degree temperature swings. Set at 225, I've measured down to 148 and up to 460. The average temp ends up much higher than the dial. The temp drops to about 50 below the dialed temp, and then it roars at full blast for a couple of minutes, climbing to a searing temp. Because it takes much longer to coast down from that top temp than it does to cool the last few degrees, the average temp is easily 100deg above the dial temp. This is surely due to the small size of the chamber, but the controller isn't doing much to compensate. Shorter, more-frequent burns would lead to a much smaller temp range. In addition, the pellet hopper is pretty small, which means any smoke longer than a couple of hours is going to require a refill. The paranoia of temperature control, plus the babysitting required for the pellets, means the experience is similar to a traditional smoker. There's no set-it-and-forget-it here. I wanted to like the Scout, but I wish I'd bought something else.
nobs2day : Gift
This was given as a gift and feed back is positive Family that was given to is smoking everything
Msmjfig : Revised review
Revised review ...I contacted Traeger customer service 1yr after I purchased my scout. They sent out replacement part to me free of charge. Now my grill works as expected. All of the parts that I had to replace were plug and play. Traeger customer service went above and beyond to get my problem fixed.
Old review...I have another Traeger grill that I use at home so I was really excited when I was able to purchase the Scout. I wanted it for camping in the RV. I didn't use it for about 2 months after I purchased it. When I finally went camping and used my Scout I was very disappointed, no matter what temperature I set the grill to I was not able to regulate the temperature. It's either off or 400 plus. I had such high hopes for my camping season and smoking somethings out on the road.

Amazon Customer : horrible customer service
my grill has never worked. does not regulate temp. either runs at 200 or 500, nothing in between or regulated. customer service is awful and they DO NOT call back if you leave the option for a call back. This is a terrible purchase and I'm out the money I guess...
BBD : Did not hold temperature at all - defective
The whole point of a Traeger is you set a temp, and it stays there. It gets super hot, then super cold, it is as if it doesn't have a thermostat at all
Tom C. : Great for camping
The scout exceeded my expectations. Grill a rack of baby back ribs at elevation and it worked great. Temperature was on point. Assembly was really easy. Would definitely recommend this
