How wide are the trays?

Answer: 16 inches wide 13-1/2 deep

my dehydrator just quit working is there a reset button on them

Answer: Mine also quit. I called the company who told me that my model has a fuse located inaccessibly inside the riveted metal body. THe newer models had the fuse just outside. My unit was no more than two years old. THe company refused to replace my dehydrator, instead offering me a modest (I think $25) discount on a new unit. I decided to go with another dehydrator when I scraped together enough money to buy another. Good luck!

what are the trays made of

Is it NSF certified

Answer: I cannot find anything on it, so I am not sure. The fan motor went out on mine at a little over two years and Westin will not sell me another one. So, our unit is no longer in use. Even a $39.95 Snack Master at Walmart sells replacement fan motors

What is the temperaure range?

Answer: I had to throw it into the trash after just over two years. The fan motor went out, and Westin refused to sell me a new one. All other food dehydrators sell replacement parts. I think it was about 100-145. I just bought an Aroma. It has a higher temperature range and is a much better unit.

Answer: The numbers on the dial range from 95-155 F.

Answer: It does have a timer, more or less, in hours. Also be warned, my unit blew a fuse and stopped working. New models have the fuse on the outside of the riveted body so make sure you can access the fuse. Weston declined to offer me a new unit because my year warranty had just expired.

Answer: Yes, the Westin 74-1001-W Pro-1000, but please be aware that Westin does not stock parts for their products. The fan in my unit went out in just over two years. I contacted Westin about buying a fan motor from them, or where I could buy one. All I got was a run around and no way to replace the fan motor. $300.00 down the drain. You can even buy a fan motor for a $39.99 Snack Master.

Do you have to use the timer to turn the dehydrator on? I dehydrate things for up to 48 hours and I don't want to reset the timer every 15 hours.

This is a nice stainless steel unit. What you need to be aware of is the temperature setting is not accurate. You will need a good digital thermometer to properly gauge your temperature. When I first received the unit and filled it I set it to 100 degrees and the heating element never came on. I played around with it until I found the best setting and just marked it with a sharpie. I use the same setting all the time so this works just fine that way. I didn't want a plastic box type dehydrator and this was the best alternative in my opinion.

Very large compared to my previous model. I have not yet been able to completely fill it. I have used it for multiple batches of jerky and once to dehydrate some vegetables. It is easy to use and does a great job.

This is a great dehydrator and the price is right on, it functions very well and produces great results however it isn't perfect. The edges are all a little sharp, and assembly of the rails for the racks is a little tough because of quality control. The timer unit stopped functioning within the first month of use and disassembly revealed that the module is defective due to a poor spring contact design, with use it will inevitably weaken arch and fail, it can be manually fixed and cleaned but it would have been nice not to have to mess with it. After three months of using it the blower motor burnt up which isn't a surprise because it has a heating element directly surrounding it and is poorly ventilated I am surprised it lasted as long as it did because just using it cooks itself. I haven't thrown it away though because I like it enough to fix it, with some improvements of course.

Josh Mandel : Fast, safer dehydrator with excellent capacity!

My family and I have long used smaller, "passive" dehydrators (that is, the circular plastic ones with just a heating element). We switched for two reasons: first, I was tired of waiting 10-20 hours for some things to dehydrate. Second, and more importantly, the plastic dehydrators are all made out of polycarbonate...terrific if you want bisphenol-A in your food. What's more, because these devices all HEAT UP, they're even more likely to leach BPA into your food. So I went for a stainless steel dehydrator, which necessitates spending a good deal more money. BUT...What a difference this device makes. Even with all the racks filled to capacity, the food dehydrates completely in a few hours rather than half a day or more. The temperature's adjustable, there's a timer with automatic shutoff, and the interior and shelves are all very easy to clean. (I don't know if the racks are dishwasher-safe, but they come clean very easily, so it hasn't mattered.) If I had to mention a drawback, it's probably the way the front panel slides on and off -- it's a little hard to finagle sometimes. But that's a very niggling complaint. Overall, I'm thrilled with the speed and capacity of the Weston, and much, much happier using stainless steel trays rather than polycarbonate.

ABSOLUTE JUNK! Stopped working after less than 40 hours of operation! Got a non stop "run around" for 3 months from their customer service, once they finally replaced the unit, 5 MONTHS LATER, the second unit also quit working after 33 hours of operation. By the time I received a response to my inquiries on product replacement, service or replacement parts my "warranty" had expired! This product deserves NO STARS! Their customer service is the worst in the business! They have no service dept and NO REPLACEMENT PARTS. Upon disassembly of my two "JUNK UNITS" I was able to determine that the timers are completely faulty and there is no replacement for this! Don't waste your hard earned money on this JUNK, IT DOES NOT LAST, and once you get done with the "RUN AROUND" from their so called "Customer Service" the unit is out of warranty and you, the consumer are left holding the bag! STAY AWAY FROM WESTON PRODUCTS, SPEND YOUR MONEY AND TIME ON AN AMERICAN MADE UNIT! ABSOLUTE JUNK!! John H Eustis

This dehydrator works well, but is very loud. The drying racks rattle and shake so much that I am thinking of putting in the basement--so I wont hear it as much. Another issue is that, as a raw foodist, you don't want to heat food above 115 degrees (F). The label on the dial is way off with what the actual temp is (on mine.) I used an oven thermometer to find where I need to actually set the temp control--For a temp range of around 110 degrees I have to set the knob to 130 degrees--so there is quite a bit of difference. Otherwise, I am amazed at how quickly it dehydrates fruits and veggies...
