how long is this knife? just wanna make sure before making decision.

Answer: Blade-8 3/4",handle-4 7/8",tot-13 1/2", blade is measured straight handle to tip (if measured along radius of curve it would be 9" of edge. One more thing, I know you didn't ask about this but: this is the best designed sheath for a filet knife in the world.

Answer: The blade is 9" long rather than 7" long. It is a good knife to use when filleting bigger fish.

I put several coats of tung oil on the handle to help preserve it, No it's not a custom or higher dollar fillet knive with a steel that stays sharper longer. For the bucks a nice knife. I've had the smaller version for years. You do need to rinse and wipe the blade with mineral or other oil after use as this knife will rust.

Answer: The sheath is rawhide leather. It should hold up just as well is a leather belt. I have been having one since 1980 and still in good shape and been through The Weather. The shop no holds up very well. Ceramic doesn't hardly wear out.

Answer: I have 4" skinning knife made by them and it came from Finland. I have this knife and they are identical except for length.

Lee : Still using mine after 20+ years

I've had one of these for 20+years and still use it. My son needed one and we both prefer a larger size for filleting Rockfish so I got him this one as a gift. Rapala offers the 9" size and most brands on Amazon don't. The sheath is very thick. Can't say for sure about the sharpener they included - I haven't used it yet. My Rapala 9" fillet knife has held up well and I expect his to also.

Rod M : Sharpe, versatile and essential

There is a reason why this is my third size purchase of this knife model. The knife is sharp our of the package, versatile enough to use it on more than just on fish and has become the most essential tool in my kitchen.
I decided to purchase this size because I needed something that would allow me to fillet big blue catfish. The knife is light, sharp and balanced. The wooden handle fits well in the hand. My only critique would be the wooden handle is not the best material to hold when wet. With that being said I have not had any issues when wet.
I also use the knife to trim brisket when I bbq. The knife cuts through the hard fat cap easily. The knife slices cooked meat well as well as ribs.
This knife has become an essential tool in my arsenal whether it be in the kitchen or out in the field. I'm sure you will feel the same.

Its an ok knife and should work fine but I think - compared to other knives - this is slightly overpriced.

i have had a rapala 7 inch knife for yoars not as sharp any more but useable taught i would get a new one when i got it package was a little crunched but opened up plastic cover removed the knife only to see there was no tip cover on knife and very end of tip was bent as this part is important when you filet fish or meat as i use the tip to remove the fat and tough parts of my wifes steak as i had to cut plastic that it was shipped in i guess i am stuck with damaged knife

My Dad had a 9" Rapala that I saved when he died. I remember him using it when I was a kid in the 50's. I still use it as a great kitchen knife to cut almost anything. It is a great knife, and I bought a 4" one in 2014. Best knife you will ever own.
