Questions about HURRICANE HCN-4 Hurricane 4' Radius Cnet 3/8'
Q:
Can anyone tell what size mesh this net has? 1/4" or 3/8".
Answer: 3_8 inch.
Q:
lead weights?
Answer: Yes, and to my surprise, each weight has a protective coating on it; very neat finish.
Answer: yes
Answer: yes
Q:
Does the net close up when pulled
Answer: The weight causes it to close, trapping the bait when retrieved.
Answer: Yes
Q:
how to throw it cast net
Answer: Just go to YouTube and enter " how to throw a cast net" and there are many videos on it. Seeing is easyer to understand the trick to spinning the net
Answer: There are several good videos on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4ft16dG2n0
Answer: I would suggest You Tube to watch others as it is not as easy to explain as it would be to watch a few and then learn your own technique.
Q:
How much weight per foot? A good cast net should have 1 pound of lead weight per foot. Thus is a 4 ft radius so it should have 8 pounds of lead.
Q:
Do you think the 3/8 inch netting could catch 2'-4' thread fin shad?
Answer: Yes it will catch 2-4 inch shad
Answer: yes, that is what we use it for.
Answer: yes it will
Q:
can anyone recommend what net i should get to catch 1/2"-2" guppies? thanks
Answer: I'm not sure what size. But 2-3" spot tails get their gills stuck in this net. You would want something with w much smaller spacing in the netting.
Answer: Go to pet store for that, not a regular casting net.
Q:
can you catch fresh water minnows with it?
Answer: Shiners yes, minnows no. They would go right thru the holes.
Answer: I've caught some really small shad and blue gill, but not minnows.
Q:
Will it work in a small pond where there are very small fish?
Answer: It does work well on small fish. I have caught minnows and spot that were very small in this net.
Q:
what is the mesh opening size
Answer: Very sorry but we can't answer that. It is currently stuck in the bottom of a creek. My son used it a lot but this last time he threw it out where there was some debris. He loved it while he had it though! He is planning on getting another one (the same one) if that helps.
Answer: I believe 3/8
Q:
This says it is a 4' radius! That's an 8' diameter net! Is that correct?
Answer: Thank's. That was very helpful!
Answer: Yes
Q:
what is the shiping wait?
Answer: It arrived quickly. I think it showed up same week for me.
Q:
Could the 3/8 inch netting catch 2'-4 inch shad?
Q:
what is the net opening size
Q:
Do you think the 3/8 inch netting could catch 2'-4' thread fin shad?
Answer: Yes it will catch 2-4 inch shad
Answer: yes, that is what we use it for.
Answer: yes it will
Q:
Is it illegal to use in california
Q:
How long is the rope on this net?
Answer: It's been a while since I've used it, so I would say it's about 15-20ft.
Q:
What mesh size is it?
Answer: Hi Ken, I'm not sure of the mesh size but it's pretty small. I used it in costa rica to catch bait fish. I left it there with a friend. It's a small net, you're not going to catch a school of mullet with it but if you're looking for something easy to throw and catches bait fish, this is ideal. If I had to guess on the mesh size, I would say around a 1/4 inch maybe a little more.
Q:
what is the diameter of the net
Answer: It's pretty small. I want to say no bigger than 4'
Q:
What is the length of the cord?
Answer: About 15 ft I think

George : Cast net
Awesome net! Helped me out immensely. This net is the perfect size for gathering bait along the shoreline, if your not in a boat.
Leo311 : Not as useful for catching ducks as I thought it might me
You have no idea how hard it is to catch ducks with this. I'm sure it works great for bait fish, but may not be your best bet for catching ducks that won't leave the water to go back into the Duck House. Maybe I need a trolling motor.
alberto maggi : successful on 1 st try!
For the price , i believe this is a good starter.to learn the the skills to be able to move up to bigger cast nets.
Andrew Thomas : Great net at great price!
Wasn't expecting such a strong, well made cast net. I was pleasantly surprised at the impressive quality, for such a reasonable price. It's fairly easy to use, even for a beginner like me. It has held up well so far. The carrying kit it comes with is much too tiny to refit the net for storage, but to be honest, it came in handy for storing my extra fishing tackle, so no regrets. I plan on buying a bigger version to this net in the near future.
Amazon Customer : Seems like a pretty good net
Seems like a pretty good net. Once you learn how to cast it... I have caught a lot of shad with this one. I like the case too. It keeps if in good shape. I would recommend this net for beginners.

awsome
Amazon Customer : Works
It may sink a bit slowly but it's pretty durable and easy to use, especially considering the price. Good for fish between 2" and 8".

Great product fast S&H.
Arnold I. Liu : Product improvement
This net works well if water depth is less than 5 feet because the sinkers are too light to catch the fast diving bait fish in a deeper water than 5 feet.
Chaz Hall : Good quality cast net - Lots of fun
It's been a while since I had used a cast net. I picked this one up for a trip to the beach. We had a lot of fun with it. It's high quality, at least as far as I can tell. The nylon pulls are stout and the mesh is strong. It's carefully packed in the little tackle box it comes in and I had no problems getting it back in the box.
I could not be happier with it. If you have never thrown a net this is a great starter size, and it's not a bad size for anyone. It operates smoothly and doesn't bind up.
Great cast net, I give it five stars.
Thanks

Worked great and easy to use. 1 star docked because the clasp on the box fell apart.

Richard Walpole : Worked Well
On vacation we used to catch Baird. Instructions not great but easy to use once we watched iTunes Utube video of product.
Denis Mueller : gotta love it free biat!
This is my second cast net I'll never pay for bait again
Cathy Davis : Good net for 2-10 inch fish
I recently bought this net and was very impressed until I caught an 18 inch bass I knew it was very big for this but it broke one of the lines. It still works but wasn't happy it broke. Over all was a great net.
niteliter : For MORE then catching baitish (CHECK local laws regarding use)
I have always, well, maybe NOT always, wanted to get one of these, just to see how it works, well, after about 12 casts,it became EZ,and fun too,it gave me a chance to see just how beautiful the fish are when they are tooo small for a hook, starting colors, nice lines, while I bought it to collect bait (its IMPERATIVE!! that you check local fish and game laws regarding the use of a castnet, which may or not vary from water to water ,some areas require a Castnet Permit to use in certain areas!!!!),it became more of a personal research, fun type thing,I can see this being a great family type tool, kinda like kids going thru the garden with a butterfly net catching bugs and butterflies, cept HERE you DONT know what you are catching until you pull the net up.
CONS-This device can be dangerous,it can if NOT kept under CONTROL,lead to excercise, weight loss, arouse your desire to study water life forms, spend more time with your kids as they want to see what the next catch brings in.USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
As a serious note-this has a long chord which can be dangerous to young children that may become entangled in any part of the net.
Enjoy.........
Robert : per foot is not bad for this price
1Lb. per foot is not bad for this price. Well made net! Betts is all "name" if you want to pay $13 more.
Denova Dainia Lambert : I love my new cast net
I love my new cast net, ,my fiance and i enjoy fish and is really looking forward to using this, we've looked at a lot of videos, and will practice using it, I must say all the reviews really helped me make a decision on purchasing it, Thanks to all !

Leonard Sisson : It Works!
First cast net I've purchased / used. Found a good YouTube video on an easy way to throw the net and have been watching it over and over and practicing, So far I've only used it a few times while on vacation on the SC coast which is the main impetus for buying it. After trying to use it the first two times without enough practice and with limited success, I spent some more time practicing on the lawn in the place we are staying and I have become fairly proficient at throwing it now so I'm ready to try again. Almost as fun trying to catch bait with one of these as actually using the bait caught and fishing with a rod & reel! So far the net is working fine--no tangles or difficulties.
Definitely recommend getting your technique down on the lawn before actually using it in the water.
Here's the video that helped me learn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY8D9ogjqr0
flower77 : Large Quality Net
I was somewhat skeptical about this product when I first ordered it. I had certain concerns that this might not be the right fit for my 14 year old fisherman son. Luckily though, I was very wrong! The casting net is large enough to catch a number of smaller fish at a time. He no longer uses the box for storing the net but instead he started using a backpack so that he would only need to carry his fishing rods and bucket in his hands. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Michael Chase : Great casting net!
We purchased this net to try and trap bait for fishing. First off, practice is needed! It is tricky to toss a casting net and have it actually open enough to trap the fish! That said, practice was fun to do and the net works well when you throw it correctly. The case is poor quality and doesn't seal well, but it works acceptably so a 4 star rating. The price from Amazon can't be beat!
Rob : Small net, small weights, torn on arrival
Its not a bad product, just a cheaper version with smaller weights than some other casting nets. It also is not as larger as you think as newbies will have an easier time casting while pro's will be like "Darn-thats tiny!". It would be kinda "ok" for a beginner off a low pier in shallow/calm water. Main reason I rated it only 2 stars is because it arrived with the rope already "fraying"/splitting/tearing.
Mackintosh : Five Stars
works but found out it is illegal in California!
