I am reading that the young man who won the “Living the Dream” deal in TBF is being told from MLF that they are not following through with the FLW end of the deal. Correct me if anyone has insight on this - but it’s my understanding that TBF has agreed to honor their end, but since MLF acquired FLW, they are not honoring the flw side of th deal (roughly 16K)
IMO, if this is true - it’s sad.
Anyone have ave any knowledge about this?
UPDATE: it looks like They are going to honor it. Great news for the young man
I not familiar with this specific contract FLW had with TBF. If you are upset over a broken promise don't watch MLF.
Off topic, acquisitions have consequences and most are ugly. When BPS acquired Cabela's the city of Sideny Nebraska lost it's primary source of income when BPS closed Cabela's laying off over 2,000 people in a city of 6,000 population, it was devastating.
How many bass anglers on this site still do business with BPS, hundreds.
Tom
WRB - I understand consequences with accusations....
but in in my opinion, we’re talking less than 20 grand. If MLF can not support this in the future, that’s fine. But draw a line in the sand and start it from the current time. Don’t not honor it for a young man who earned it.
dang
Boyd needs another private jet and could care less that this was a young mans dream ripped away from him.
Someone is gonna step in and be the hero and cover the half of entry fees that MLFLW will not.
One sponsor will get a pat on the back while MLF will be standing there with its hand outstretched for the 20 grand in entry fees.
So much for caring about the grass roots of the sport.
I'd love to see BASS step in and give this guy free entry to the opens taking all the positive publicity, helping someone out by doing whats right and sticking it to MLF.
It's not like MLF just didn't squeeze a hundred grand from 2 former members

Wow. I knew BP and G-man had to pay a fee for leaving. But didn’t know it was 100 grand.
I could really care care less about BASS vs MLF. I honestly have followed both since it all went down. But man. I don’t know. I just can’t see a bright spot in this. I’d really like to hear a response from MLF.
I just feel for the young man. I compete at the TBF level myself. And I couldn’t imagine “making it” - and then being told nope.
Hope you are right and someone pony’s up some cash for him
Brandon said it was pretty standard to have a buy-out clause in these type of contracts. He did not disclose how much.
G-man straight up said it cost him 50 grand to buy out.
I heard the kid quit his job so he could focus all his time and effort into this "Living your Dream" package he won.
TBF is going to uphold their side of the agreement and pay their half of the entry fees and provide him a truck and a boat to fish out of.
MLF is not paying their side which is 1/2 the entry fees. ( I say their side but it was actually FLW that made the promises) Since MLF bought FLW I believe the right thing to do would be to honor this.
However, I do not know of any of the legal stuff that might prevent this.
MLF did not buy FLW's debt- so paying off one person and not another might be illegal.
So then duckett rods should have stepped in and sponsored the kid and there would have been no negative publicity.
Now, he looks like the grinch

Uh ..... hundreds minus one, for a couple years now. And another of my fishing buddies, too. That's hundreds minus two. I guess I'm naive, or maybe just an optimist, but I think there will be more. jj
FLW fault and obligation not MLF.
Sometimes a dream turns into a nightmare thats life.
If somebody verifies the details and starts a fund, I'll contribute.
I miss getting the Cabela's hardback catalogs in the mail. Cabela's merchandise quality has gone downhill since the takeover and the local store doesn't carry much stuff anyway. Bass Pro? I have other options here and the BP store is only 15 miles away. I haven't been there in 4 years. Oh well. Gander Mountain left town years ago and I don't miss them either.

I don’t see how MLF has no responsibility in this since they acquired FLW.

They have no legal responsibility, moral that’s a different story. What about the Costa guys? Same thing happened to them, the college kids who earned their way, the international competitor. There’s more than just this kid. Where do you stop? I truly believe that’s their problem is where do they (MLF) draw the line? Yes there’s a bunch of billionaires who own this, but at the end of the day it’s still a business. It’s very unfortunate and hopefully they’ll make things right in some way shape or form, but it still isn’t their fault.
Anything Johnny Morris, has a hand in i wont do business with. I dont pay any attention to MLF, or step foot in a BPS or Cabelas for some time now, because of him.

I wasn’t aware of costa and college also. I don’t know if that makes me feel better or even worse. : /

I literally just read this and came here to post.
Seems like the right thing has been done
maybe I jumped the gun in getting upset. Not giving it time to play out. I just want to see the young man get a fair shot- he deserves it.

Would you care to explain why? I'm curious, not because I like or dislike Morris, just wondering specifically he has done to make you take that stance.
I have read positive things about Morris as a person and negative things about some of his business dealings, so I think your input would be interesting.

Well done Matt on BTL. Bet that wouldn't have happened without Matt bringing it up on BTL.

Can they strike up a finalized deal like this in less than 24 hours? I honestly don’t know. You’d think something like this would take some time, negotiation, and lawyers to get it done. Matt brought it up Wednesday 24 hours prior. The timing of this does make you wonder, but I have to believe it’s more involved than just hit ‘print’ and sign said document.

If they intended to honor it all along, you'd think they would have told the guy that upfront. From what I saw it sounds like they told him he was SOL originally...Why else would he have brought it everyone's attention?
They could be working on the paperwork now, after announcing it to calm the blowback.
Maybe they haven't signed the papers, only announced the partnership. Who knows?
"Terms were not disclosed."

They just have to agree to cover half of the annual entry fees and to uphold the existing agreement. I would have thought that was an entirely executive decision and almost certainly as a reaction to Matt's piece on BTL.
The more I think about it - still kinda upsets me. They said TBF prez contacted the kid and told him what was going on. Which makes me think MLF was not going to do it. Then he posts on social media and gets some coverage. And boom.
If this is what really upsets you, I hope you never have real problems in your life.

Dude - just don’t comment. What good does that do?
You don’t know what problems anyone has or doesn’t have.
I just like to see the kid get the shot that he deserves. I hope he has nothing but success
