Well I was gonna do a bass tournament last week on Saturday but family was visiting and I decided to wait and do a different one.
Well I'm glad I didn't sign up. Basically what happend was this 2 man team was fishing and saw some people who weren't entered in the tournament catch a 11.5lb bass and bought it off them for 250$ so they could win the tournament.
They eventually got ratted out and the trophy largemouth got confiscated, they had to return all prize money, and they received 5 citations haha
They had to go and ruin a tournament for all the people who signed up (which was a lot more than normal surprisingly). Tournaments on this lake during the summer are basically won by whoever can catch a 5 fish limit so that one near 12lb bass was enough to win.
Cheaters are scum on this earth.

I second that!!!!!!!!!
Wow, what a GREAT fish!
Yeah, I watched the drama of this one unfold on the GON forum...
Yea, it truly is unfortunate
I would post a picture of the fish put I don't wanna put some strangers faces on the internet without their permission haha the only two pictures I know of is one with the cheater and one with two officers holding it.
It sucks because banks lake doesn't produce but a few big fish every year and now this beauty is dead. Wish I knew what the total cost of those 5 tickets were haha!
I agree with you! Glad you ended up not entering it!
Yeah that is sad people in our sport do that kind of stuff
All of this reminds me about a story where a guy asked a girl if she would sleep with him for a million dollars. She thought about it, and then agreed. So then he asked her if she would for $20, and she got all upset and asked him if he thought she was a prostitute. His reply was that they had already determined that, and they were now just negotiating the final price!
Every time I hear about some guy(s) deciding its time to cheat, you have to know they've set the price of their reputation. Sadly, there are a lot of people who have set the price much lower, and it happens way more than most think.
I would have sold it to them. Then would have went straight to the tourn director and ratted. Give the director the money to disperse as they felt necessary.

*** just posted a story about it haha
I never even gave it a thought about people cheating in a tournament - that is just plain wrong!!! Glad they got caught
Poor bass died, too. I saw that article on *** a couple days ago.
Yeah they mentioned it was dead before it got confiscated I believe, I guess it was just handled poorly... Its a shame
There is alot of cheating going on these days in the tournaments. As soon as you put fishing, money and males into a competive sport its gonna happen. Some are networking with other non anglers and some goes as far as to break every rule to win. Crap, we even get cheated by all forms of goverment. Why would you think fishing would be any different! I will say the B.A.S.S and FLW format is great. But whos to say a diver with a bubbleless regulator isnt hookin fish on a guys rod!! Diver can dive for unlimited time in 30ft or less! Just something to think about when ya watch a 30+lb bag of 5 smallies get weighed in next time. If its to good to be true it usually is!!

And you would have been cited and lost your fishing privileges for a while, just like the people who did sell the bass. The DNR doesn't care what you do with the money, if you are not acting under their direct orders then you'll be cited.. even if you give the money away.
Cheating is pretty lame and unfortunate. That a person would stoop to that level for a win and make some $$ and then parade around as a legitimate winner really upsets me. Unfortunately there will always be cheaters in sports and life sadly.
I guess I am just not real competitive or something but I really don't care if I win or lose - Im not 10, so who cares. Go have fun, give it a try and let the chips fall where they may.

woah....now that is some conspiracy theory. I am sure that the bubble trail wouldn't get any attention either or the guy in scuba gear coming in and out of the water and your air runs out eventually even with a rebreather.
Bubble trail?? You wouldnt get a bubble trail with a bubbleless regulator and in depths shallower then 30ft you can remain under the surface on a double tank for over 18 hours! If someone want to win bad enough there is always a way!!
even bubbleless regulators still have some bubbles in my experience....And the negative outlook is pretty sad to me. If someone wants to win and enough maybe they just won or are better than you.....sounds like an excuse being built in to losing if you ask me.
Loosing in my mind is better then winning. If ya win what do you learn? If ya come top ten your always thinkin of what, why, when and were you went wrong. You learn more as an angler loosing then you do winning!! Just sayin.
Iv seen people stabbed and killed by another person for a dollar.
Anyone who thinks cheating isn't going on in these hard economic times is sadly mistaken.
If I ever caught someone I would make it my lifes work to have them banned from tournaments.

I hate the cheating too. But there is no way to have someone banned from local tournaments. They go on several days a week at lots of locations. I wish there were a way but that would be hard to accomplish.
It does make you wonder just how often people are cheating. Fished a tournament the other weekend where I had a really solid day and I thought I would at least make a 3rd place check. I was so far back I dont even think I made top ten. A lake putting up 18lbs for one guy in 8 hours is pretty impressive in the north. If you also have the lunker I can understand it but when you show up with a 3.5lb avg on a lake with 50 boats fishing it does make you **** your head and wonder a little.
I just fish for me, and if in my mind I won... I won. I dont care what the boards say, if I think I fished my best and still lost, then thats what happened cheating or not but for me, I won.
